I remember getting this game and had only played Zoo Tycoon 2 for most of my childhood and was extremely confused on the complex controls, but this video is being extremely helpful (as well as simple) with it! Thank you so much!
This is the most straightforward explanation of how to begin a zoo. Well done, PawsBuild, this is going to be so well received by both new and seasoned players. I've been playing Planet Zoo since its inception and still learnt new things, thank you! I would love to see more tutorials by you, and I have to say that you have a pleasant listening voice.
yes, hes in the few percentage of youtubers that i cab listen to without having my ears fall off and instead think to myself "wow this is a rly nice voice"
I have had Planet Zoo for over a year and only played it once because I had no clue of exactly what to do and where to go, on how to get started so I never played again! Thank you so much for this very detailed video! I finally have a tiny little zoo started and I’m making money lol! Thank you so much! Great video!
IMPORTANT TIP: On the animals environment tab you can just click where they are from without annoyingly opening the nature tab and finding and filtering on your own! 16:56 he hovers over it but you can simply click on it
ohmygod this is so helpful. Just got the game and the tutorial didn't explain much for starting from scratch. I have a feeling I'm gonna be watching this video a lot. And the time stamps, ah you're amazing ty
@@ch0k3vlogs70 Definitely mid grade computer, or low budget works fine if you want to play on very low graphics. On all ultra It used to fps lag on my gtx 950 for example, Which is only a 2gb vram cheap graphics card.
This has got to be the best beginners tutorial I've seen so far. Bravo! I really needed something to refresh my brain after not playing for so long and THIS did exactly that. Very relaxing too.
So helpful! Amazing! 10 minutes into it and I already know more than the game taught me for 2h. Thank you for this video, I had struggles to play Planet Zoo because it overwhelmed me with all of this (I am a Zoo Tycoon veteran and it is much easier game) but because of your tutorial I will actually start to understand it and enjoy it :)
Mate, this is the best tutorial ever! I only started playing Planet Zoo very recently, and when comparing your tutorial to the game's, I can see that they missed SO much of the smaller things that I struggled with! After watching your video in full, it's made me want to abandon the campaign tutorials and just jump right in; I'm that excited! Very in depth, great showcasing/examples of the builds and a thorough explanation of what to do and why. Definitely beginner friendly, and I'll definitely be relating to this video for a while to come! Your calming nature and voice also made it really satisfying to watch lol. Keep up the great work and thank you!
This really puts into perspective how poor the in-game tutorial is, to where you realize just how many fundamental mechanics are glossed over or omitted entirely.
I finally decided to give Planet Zoo a try and after getting frustrated with trying to build a habitat after the in-game tutorial, I decided to see if anyone had made a how-to and there are several, but this is by far the most well done and easy to understand. Thank you so much, it was so helpful to me!
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. A straightforward and easy to understand tutorial without all the long winded introductions / explanations from most other YT channels. Seriously, thank you!
Oh my goodness. As somebody that has been playing this game since it came out, it’s so refreshing to see a tutorial actually explaining the mechanics of the game. (Unlike the in-game tutorial) it’s so nicely put together and easy to follow.
I’ve already put 200 hours into this game just clicking around. Still not doing amazing. Finally look up a tutorial, and this is so incredibly helpful! Literally have never used the quarantine before and just treated my animals from the habitat if they were sick 😅 thank you so much!
This is so so so helpful!!!! I've had PZ in my library for about 2 years now and never played because it was always so daunting when I launched the game😖 I can't wait to play after all I've learnt!!!

3 years on and I can say this video is so helpful and amazing to get things started. Definitely taught me the basics of starting my own zoo where the game tutorial couldn't. I got to the 4th tutorial in Canada to build the zoo from the stretch and I was kinda lost. Thanks PawsBuild.
This game is on sale right now, but I was hesitant about purchasing it because of the steep learning curve (for me, at least). Your tutorial is so thorough and easy to follow I'm confident I can get a little zoo going. Heading to Steam to purchase right now. Thank you! The timestamps are a nice touch.
Thank you for the helpful video! I think one thing I really appreciate about this video is that it cuts straight to the point. There isn't 2+ minutes of a sponsor or a peppy youtuber facecamming us to tell us what they're doing. Nothing wrong with those intros as many youtubers are have good charisma, but when I just want straight forward info, I know exactly who to come to!
Thank you so much, this has been really helpful! Very easy to understand you. I got the game last week and have been struggling a lot since, especially with making the paths and habitat barriers look decent. (I didn't even know there was window option). Omw to re-design my zoo :D
I've been playing planet zoo for a few hours now and this tutorial taught me MUCH more in a shorter amount of time! Thank you for making this guide, it's so helpful for people just starting out
The most simple and straighfoward tutorial of Planet Zoo, I really recommend for beginners to watch this video rather than playing a long, boring and confusing Tutorial in the game...this video is absolutely helpful and fantastic, kudos to PawsBuild for making the video for animal lover like us... I will give a thousand like if I could! *Thumbs up*
after working for a few hours i can say the learning curve is steep but you get there! the creators have done a good job of making sure that whatever you decide to do looks really good, whether you meant it to or not 😂 very pleased with the terrain manipulation
By far the best guide i've watched on any game! Very pleasant to listen to (you can sometimes even hear you smile lol), easy to follow and really informative. Please don't stop doing what you're doing! Cheers!
For the filtering and painting terrain just click on the biome and plant type in the animal tab and it will automatically filter it for you. Same for the painting of terrain.
Superb tutorial for getting started! I just got this installed for my 10-year old daughter and while she loves playing it, there are a lot of basic things she doesn't know about yet. Of course, she's doing everything in sandbox mode, which I am trying to convince her to get out of and really build one the correct way. The details you included are very good for a first-time builder. Thank you!
I am amazed of this game's possibilities, I just got it with the packs and this was extremely helpful. Thanks a lot, not many people make actually good, slow, and understandable tutorials, so thanks very much! You earned a subscriber!

I originally started out in Career mode and for fifteen minutes I was just like “AHHH WHAT IS HAPPENING WHY ARE ANIMALS ESCAPING HOW DO I CAMERA” and this helped me recover
I just got the game and was super excited to play. After spending about an hour trying to figure it out, I regretted the purchase. Seemed way too complicated and the "tutorial" gives little guidance. Thanks for this. Helps a ton!
just got this game on the winter sale and i was overwhelmed until i was half way watching your video. your voice is perfect for these kind of videos, thank you very much for the tutorial.
Always start off with the easiest and cheapest animals. I have Aldabra giant tortoises when I start off a franchise zoo and keep some of them in animal storage so in the next zoo I can pass on those good genes and get money fast and easily. (babies will attract more NPCs!)
Just bought the game, and was struggling to figure out how to get things working: the tutorials are ok but not really sufficient. Thank you so much for doing this video, it was exactly what I needed to get my first zoo up and running.
Thank you for this very thorough and easy to understand tutorial ^^ I've played Planet Coaster before i bought Planet Zoo and thought i'd already knew a lot but things apparently are very different lol
I am still kinda confused about the work zones but you helped me so much with everything else! Since I am Zoo Tycoon veteran I became very overwhelmed by Planet Zoo, loving the game so far tho!
I was exactly the same when I started playing as is quite the step up from Zoo Tycoon in complexity isn’t it! So glad I could help though and I hope you enjoy the game it’s got a lot to offer! 😊
I know I'm a bit late to this video however I just purchased this game today and felt that the tutorial was honestly a bit overwhelming (along with some bugs?). This tutorial was very easy to follow and showed me where to properly look for things. Great job.
You need to be in the edit mode for the “group” of buildings to see the grid which should happen automatically when you place the first building. You can click the first building and press the “R” key to enter the group edit mode - this will make the second building align to the same grid as the first 😊
I just got this game in the steam sale and this video has opened up the game so much for me, while still gaining a slight profit. Then I’ve improved slowly from there onwards. Thank you so much for this!
I bought Planet Zoo like a month ago I was too overwhelmed to even start it 😂 but luckily I found this video 🤩 I have 3 habitats and a restaurant now 😎 thank you!! 🌈
Thank you for this guide, it has helped me so much starting my franchise zoo, but I didn't want to use Nile monitor like everyone else so I decided to go with the cassowary in the Australia pack and it worked beautifully, I went with American alligator next and found a albino one named Waldo for pretty cheap, and now I'm working on African wild dogs
Man, this was the game I looked forward to the most because I'm starting my new position at the Albuquerque Biopark in a few days. I've always been interested in real-life conservation, and I thought what better way to celebrate than to try a game that emulates the complexity of a real zoo? Big mistake lol. This video of yours was immensely helpful though. Everything is demonstrated and explained in one of the most clear ways any RUclipsr ever has. I'm sure I'll have forgotten most of it next time I play, but thanks to you, I'll be better equipped to enjoy the game.
You can directly click under animal nature requirements tab (click icon for example Africa) to open automatucally prefiltered main Nature tab for this specific animal.
Thank you so much! You are a lifesaver! The in-game tutorial wasn't very helpful in certain aspects and when I was on my own I was struggling. Especially understanding how work zones functioned. Thank you, I watched this while making dinner and I'll probably rewatch it tonight and make my zoo accordingly so the information sticks. Thanks a lot, new subscriber here!
I'm not even halfway through this and it's already been immensely helpful. I always get overwhelmed when starting a new zoo because I never know where to begin. As soon as I'm done with the video, I'm gonna start a new one and give it a shot!
Couple things now regards to the habitat terrain painting and adding plants. Just select the terrain types that the habitat shows you ae red and it will automatically take you to the terrain section with that selected/ With the plants select the biomes and continent and it will again take you to the nature section with the filters already selected. Great work on this though and really like how clear you are in your explanations!
Thanks! Yes I forgot to say you could click the biome / continent and it would automatically filter them but I didn’t realise you could select the red section and it would automatically select the terrain 🤔 maybe it’s a feature they introduced after I made this (or more likely I just didn’t realise 😂🙈)
I’ve had planet coaster for a few years but have only played it a couple times. It’s just so overwhelming. But I think I’m gonna get back into it, and this video is convincing me to get planet zoo as well. So thanks!
Before watching this i didnt play the game for years since i bought it i played it for a few hours then stopped and have not played it since then i wanted to get back into the game and this tutorial really helped, cheers.
oh im so happy i found you, i was gifted this game and been struggling so much, i can picture in my head what i want, but struggle to get it done. Thank you so much
Just bought this game on Steam on sale, started playing it and was like OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING. This video was super perfect to figure out where to start. THANK YOU!
Something I learned when following this guide to a t (even to the point of using the same starting animals, Nile Monitors, bc getting gold tier males and females is practically what makes them best beginner animals) is that if you intend on adding a breeding pair to your habitat, you need to consider that the size of the habitat can hold their kids alongside the adults. Especially in solitary animals like the Monitors, and take note of their breeding patterns. Nile monitors breed like goddamn rabbits and that is a warning most of the time, they can have up to TEN babies per breeding and their interbirth period (aka the time the mother recovers before another breeding can be done) is shorter than the time it takes for their babies to grow up. I think it's 2 years? This means that they can and will breed again while their initial babies are STILL babies, especially since they do not become adults until they hit 4 years old. Even the Asian Water Monitors grow up a year earlier and have a higher 'grace period". You will have to potentially contend with double digit baby numbers with them if you're someone like me who doesn't make "juvenile exhibits" to house the excess.. The asian monitors have this problem too but it's less offending since their max is only 8 per breeding and their year shorter time to become adults + interbirth period keeps them from racking up babies. What I recommend when starting with (any) animal is change the number reqs in the zoopedia so that it can house the maximum number of adults ALONGSIDE any juveniles. Bc of how Nile Monitors breed, you need a habitat suited for not just the adults but also TWENTY babies bc you will likely have that many per 2 breedings or at least somewhere around that. This keeps them from getting low wellfare in the process, bc those babies WILL take up space if you don't plan for them. I made the mistake of having just too small a habitat reqs and the low wellfare wouldn't leave me alone bc the babies put the water reqs in the yellow which is bad. With animals like Cheetahs for example which are solitary, you only need to account for 3 adults and 5 babies max (I prefer sticking to just the breeding pair personally rather than buy more than I need to unless the social needs require it like lemurs). If you just stick to two adults, and account for the babies, you will not have to worry about getting more cheetahs until the babies grow up in contrast to the nile monitors, meaning that your breeding pair of cheetahs won't make breed until your initial litter of them grow up, so you practically have a much more forgiving grace period between breedings since you likely already released/traded those newly grown cheetahs to the wild or other players. Animals with smaller exhibit requirements are obviously more forgiving in this regard but it's something to take note of fyi. Once I started extending my habitat sizes I had to stop worrying about this. I don't apply this to some large group animals that need lots of space for a full group (unless you're penhuins ig?) bc I just sell any if I think that's too many in there for the space I set up. But yeah, just a food for thought thing.
Bought the game, had no clue what to do, got frustrated and thought I'd never play it again, found your video and now can't stop playing the game! Thank you so so much!
Bro, super useful. I bought this game on release and haven't gotten into it at all because the built in tutorial wasn't something quick and simple like this. Can't wait to finally play now.
I’m so glad it’s been helpful I felt exactly the same when I got the game so I’m really happy this tutorial bridged the gap for you! Hope you enjoy the game 😊
I watched this a few days before buying my new laptop, worried it may not be able to run Planet Zoo. But here I am now with 7 hours in the game having only done the tutorials!!! I got a quick refresher here again and now I'm heading into franchise mode! =D
Always struggled with painting the terrain and putting plants, trees and rocks into it, to make it look beautiful like other designers did. This helped me. Thanks! :)
Thank you for explaining the work zones. I've been playing a lot and never got the work zones work properly. Also love your franchise videos, gave me a lot of good ideas for my zoos.
Thank you I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the videos! I hope you enjoy the game 😊 I’ve also just started a new tropical franchise series on the channel if you’re interested!
Awesome tutorial. I purchased Planet Zoo over the weekend, played through a few tutorial levels and this will really come in handy for when I'm ready to create my own zoo from scratch.
This tutorial is more useful and better than the one in the actual game lmao I just got back to playing the game after several months and there were a lot of things i forgot. This was really helpful. Thanks :)
i had this game since it was launched but whenever i attempted to play it i got very frustrated by the complexity of the game, thanks to your video i will attempt another playthrough and hopefully this time i won't rage quit because of the overwhelming options and details

I was exactly the same when I started playing as is quite the step up from Zoo Tycoon in complexity isn’t it! So glad I could help though and I hope you enjoy the game it’s got a lot to offer! 😊
love this tutorial, it is a bit complicated for me, because i am from Germany, but i like it ;)
I’m glad you still liked it! 😊
Just picked up Planet zoo a few days ago. This guide is so good.
This has helped so much! How did you build the buildings around the food stalls?
I’m glad it helped! 😊
I know I'm a bit late to this video however I just purchased this game today and felt that the tutorial was honestly a bit overwhelming (along with some bugs?). This tutorial was very easy to follow and showed me where to properly look for things. Great job.
I’m so glad you found the video helpful! I really hope you enjoy the game it’s so much fun! ☺️
Never seen a more helpful gaming video. Thanks man.
Glad I could help! 😊
This is far better than the in game tutorial
How did you get the buildings to be set on a grid 7:34
You need to be in the edit mode for the “group” of buildings to see the grid which should happen automatically when you place the first building. You can click the first building and press the “R” key to enter the group edit mode - this will make the second building align to the same grid as the first 😊
I just got this game in the steam sale and this video has opened up the game so much for me, while still gaining a slight profit. Then I’ve improved slowly from there onwards. Thank you so much for this!
I’m glad this helped I hope you enjoy the game ☺️
Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much - I was stuck after the in-game tutorial and was left confused, but this one was so thorough!
I bought Planet Zoo like a month ago I was too overwhelmed to even start it 😂 but luckily I found this video 🤩 I have 3 habitats and a restaurant now 😎 thank you!! 🌈
That’s so great to hear I’m glad it helped! And hope you enjoy the game 😊
Thank you for this guide, it has helped me so much starting my franchise zoo, but I didn't want to use
Nile monitor like everyone else so I decided to go with the cassowary in the Australia pack and it worked beautifully, I went with American alligator next and found a albino one named Waldo for pretty cheap, and now I'm working on African wild dogs
That’s great to hear I’m so glad you’re enjoying the game! 😊
I have been looking for a tutorial just like this for days, so glad i found yours, exactly what i needed, thanks.
i am 2 years late but this helpt me so much to make my own zoo dahmm all the love to this guy
Thanks I appreciate it and so glad it helped! 😊
Thanks I hope you enjoy the game! 😊
Literally the most useful starter video ever!! Work zones aren't confusing now!! 😅 And now I finally understand how to play
Thanks I’m so glad it was helpful for you! ☺️
So thanks!
I hope you enjoy it! 😊
This tutorial was so clear and I love how you show things in a very logical, step by step manner.
Before watching this i didnt play the game for years since i bought it i played it for a few hours then stopped and have not played it since then i wanted to get back into the game and this tutorial really helped, cheers.
That’s really great to hear I hope you enjoy the game! 😊
oh im so happy i found you, i was gifted this game and been struggling so much, i can picture in my head what i want, but struggle to get it done. Thank you so much
I’m so glad it helped! 😊
Just bought this game on Steam on sale, started playing it and was like OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING. This video was super perfect to figure out where to start. THANK YOU!
I’m glad it helped you out! I had the same reaction when I got it 🤣🤣🤣
Something I learned when following this guide to a t (even to the point of using the same starting animals, Nile Monitors, bc getting gold tier males and females is practically what makes them best beginner animals) is that if you intend on adding a breeding pair to your habitat, you need to consider that the size of the habitat can hold their kids alongside the adults.
Thank you! Really informative
Bought the game, had no clue what to do, got frustrated and thought I'd never play it again, found your video and now can't stop playing the game! Thank you so so much!
So glad to hear! I hope you enjoy! 😊
I hope you enjoyed the game! ☺️
Always struggled with painting the terrain and putting plants, trees and rocks into it, to make it look beautiful like other designers did. This helped me. Thanks! :)
Oh good so glad it helped! 😊
Thank you for explaining the work zones. I've been playing a lot and never got the work zones work properly. Also love your franchise videos, gave me a lot of good ideas for my zoos.
Thank you I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the videos! I hope you enjoy the game 😊 I’ve also just started a new tropical franchise series on the channel if you’re interested!
as someone who is planning on getting planet zoo as soon as I get a pc I found this video really helpful, thanks man!
I’m glad - thanks! 😊
After not playing the game for over a year, this is the perfect refresher! Great video, thanks!
Thanks I’m glad it helped! ☺️
One of the best tutorials for any game. Seriously impressive. Thank you. I was so lost.
Awesome tutorial. I purchased Planet Zoo over the weekend, played through a few tutorial levels and this will really come in handy for when I'm ready to create my own zoo from scratch.
Thanks I’m glad you found it helpful and I hope you enjoy the game! 😊
This tutorial is more useful and better than the one in the actual game lmao
I just got back to playing the game after several months and there were a lot of things i forgot. This was really helpful.
Thanks :)
I’m glad it was helpful for you! I hope you enjoy the game ☺️
i had this game since it was launched but whenever i attempted to play it i got very frustrated by the complexity of the game, thanks to your video i will attempt another playthrough and hopefully this time i won't rage quit because of the overwhelming options and details
Yes I completely understand I felt the same when I first started playing! I’m so glad my tutorial helped you give the game another try because when you’re not going bankrupt constantly it’s actually a really great game! 🤣

I’ve been playing this game for a few years, but this still taught me some better ways of doing stuff! Thanks for the great tutorial!
I’m so glad it was helpful! 😊
I got about 60 hours in this game (I know, not a lot by most PZ enthusiast's standards) and still learned a few things I never knew about. Thank you
I’m glad it was helpful I’m always finding new tips and things I didn’t know so I’m glad I could do the same for you here ☺️
I’m getting my new pc this week and can’t wait to play this game! I’m saving this video for when I get to start playing! This is the most helpful guide I’ve seen yet.
