I think my problem with this whole system is that I don't have the creative mind that others have where I come up with something before I start building. And I get discouraged fast when it doesn't do what I want it to do and I end up quitting frustrated and upset instead of having fun. I'm glad that others enjoy it, I really am, I just...wish I could too.
I was just like you! What helped me a lot was downloading Workshop content, breaking it apart, and then making my own reusable pieces for barriers, paths, buildings, etc. Play around in the designer and try making building blocks first, then you can put them together to really build an art piece!
This game would be infinitely better if the building system wasn't that clunky. I often have a plan for a build/habitat, but either the terrain and path tool work against me or the grid alignment stops working. And when I have a zoo I'm a bit proud of, I get too many visitors and my framerate drops into the 20s on a high end PC. This game needs fixing asap, but they decide to release DLC after DLC ... Still can't stop playing tho, lol
@@matsimoto3541 I doubt that you have 20 FPS with a high end PC. I only have a 3080 but I can still play this game on ultra settings 2K in my big zoos with atleast 80fps
I can't imagine making anything so beautiful. But I just started for the first (real) time last night. I drew out my idea and tried it on freeplay. It wasn't as cute as I imagined in my head, but it's a start, and nothing is ever set it stone.
Oh my gosh, this was very helpful. Your builds are so very inspiring. I have been struggling with not sticking with a zoo. I'll work hard on it and then compare it to other people's amazing creations and then scrap it and start over. You're so right that it's really just about having fun and relaxing and enjoying the game. Thanks for the tips!
The last tip was honestly a very important one :D I get very overwhelmed with this game (which is why I don't play it too much) and it's ok to just STOP if you don't want to finish a build! Great vid, the habitats look so gorgeous

I was so pre-occupied being a building perfectionist I realised I wasn't having fun, so I stopped caring about absolute perfect alignment and and just built, and my new zoo is. Coming along very nicely after only a week.

When I am buildings something, for example a fence, it is always going to somewhere even if I copy this - so I can't build straight, everyithing goes at some angle. And disguise a habitat's entrance is also difficult. So I really fastinated by people who actually can create all beautiful and neat buildings and habitats!
Do the buildings I make function as the shelter for the animals? Like if I make a shed out of the construction material does it count as a hard shelter? And do guests walk in there on their own if it’s touching a path or do I have to run a path in there?

Don't feel bad. Everyone's different, you will get better at building stuff as time goes on but aslong as you are enjoying the game that's most important thing.
You know what artists do over their lives? They practise! Practise makes perfect and perfect is what is perfect to you. Take your time and pace yourself, if you are enjoying the experience you will create amazing things. Also taking inspiration from others is always okay!
Do you add/remove foliage in line with your animals environment needs? I love using foliage but then have guests complaining there’s too much (depending on the animal).

I love your Planet Zoo tutorials - on this video on custom barriers, did you say that the animals can or can not get through custom barriers? Meaning will I get an error message of some kind stating that an animal escape b/c of my custom barriers? Great job on your videos, you are my "go-to" guy on Planet Zoo.
So if you build your barriers with your own elements than you can save time for your repairman, because your own fence cant be repaired. And how does it work with the grades? Barriers have grades. Some animal need a fence with grade 3. But if you build your own fence there are no grades for the fence.
i feel bad that i can't make such beautiful habitat after 100h of playing time, my habitat are still shit compared to what i'm seeing on videos, i'm not a creative person. At least, it amaze me to watch it lol

The in game barriers are so awful but yet they want us to buy the game and then but 1500 DLCS to enjoy the game. There isn't much options to get creative. The base doesn't have construction pieces are ass. It's deff thrown me off. Why I'm looking at these videos and every video I've seen is using dlc packs.
It looks absolutely gorgeous, but I think for me it's way too time consuming and exhausting. I wish I had the energy and patience to do this, but meh. To me it's all about the animal. The only perk I see from this is that it seems that the barrier will never break down? So no repairs and the mechanics have more time to do other things? Also, to me, the building and the building tools are so clunky, it's frustrating. I wish there was an easier way to build. Custom paths, however, make no sense to me. The actual paths serve a purpose and are actually usable. The custom ones aren't.

Make your own custom fences, or download them of the steam workshop. For mods, I don't really use them, but the best place for them is nexusmods
