  • Believe it or not I actually had this finished ages ago, but it kept triggering the copywrite stuff. I feel like it was fair use but waiting 30 days is too long. Maybe the original version of this video will be available one day but it matters not. Instead you get this version where I have removed the majority of each actual clip with a still screenshot instead.
For some reason they had no issue with the original movie clips or the music, I tried to keep some clips in, split screens and the sections that are less than 8 seconds.
Woe is me, I am a tortured soul.

As someone who loves the entire franchise, I can relate to your feelings about this movie completely. The first Apes movie I ever saw was Conquest, our first introduction to "Caesar" and I was hooked! I immediately went and sought out the movies before it, as well as Battle, and I was not disappointed at all! I actually ended up watching Battle before I was able to get my hands on a copy of the first few. I do agree that this movie was rushed out due to the unexpected success of the Original, but I also believe they had different plans for this but were caught in a time crunch. I am so glad of the "rebirth" of the franchise and I really hope that the movies continue. What is so great about a franchise like this, is that there is so much that can be explored and so much story to fill in. I cant wait for Kingdom. Also, I would love to have you on sometime to discuss the franchise in depth.

Tbh I am no expert haha, I admit that I havent seen all of the new ones, just the first 2. But it definitely is a world where there is a lot of potential options. When you start with a post apocalypse localised in maybe one state at the most theres a whole world of unexplored territory. I think the mutants represent that best. Because ultimately, of there are mutants even in the same state practically undetected, who else is out there!? Not something I expect the new ones to explore, they want to go on their own path but there are definitely some interesting questions nonetheless

The ending of this movie so WTF but it’s one of the things that makes it great. You won’t forget it…

I think the executives watched all the original characters to be present to maximize its success chance on the basis that the public liked them in the original movie, and the screenwriters didn't have enough time to develop the plot which picks up from where the first movie leaves us. Perhaps originally it was supposed to be Taylor and Nova who explore the Forbidden Zone and find the mutants, maybe the plan was to have 2 sides pitted against each other with Taylor and Nova caught inbetween, perhaps even siding reluctantly with Zaius - but due to the deadlines they didn't have enough time to develop the plot and instead borrowed the original plot to get us to the 2nd part that was intended to be actually the 1st part of the movie. In any case I fully agree that the 2nd part fully redeems the movie. Nova's speech and death is the high water mark for me - you know from there it won't end well, with Taylor and Brent now having nothing to defend and nothing to lose but their honour. Damn, gonna re-watch it now. Thank you!!!!

Charlton heston didn't want to do a sequel. That's why they change the script!

As flawed as this movie is, and it is a very flawed movie, it is my favorite of the Apes movies and even my favorite sci-fi movie. I didn’t mind the first half kind of retreading the first movie, with Brent essentially being a stand-in for the audience, learning as he goes along. But once we get underground, that's it. It becomes a whole different movie entirely and so bat sh*t insane that I love it. As a kid I loved the original, but didn’t know about the sequels until I was a teenager. I was so hooked in the first time I watched Beneath, from the left turn it takes in the middle to its shocking finale. If the first movies ending was shocking, then this one is something else entirely. I don't think another movie affected me the way this one did. My 14-year-old self really had to process what I witnessed when it was over after that first time (for perspective, I'm 34 now). And as much as I love it, it still haunts me. Yet its a great B-movie with the best elements of pulp comics and vintage sci-fi thrown in.

Explain how beneath is flawed? I just don't see it? What is flawed is escape drom the planet of the apes. Which makes no sense how the apes escape! And find space suits that fit them. And why wear helmets!

@dolphinsrr well what I mean is the lower budget is evident with some of the ape masks. Which I get. You can't apply that kind of makeup on all of those extras. That's a lot. But I also think the ending, despite being one of my favorite parts, feels a bit rushed at times. But that doesn't take away my enjoyment of it. And wasn't Taylor's mission a one-way trip? Why rescue? Unless of course we go on that the signal Landon sent after the crash made its way back through time to Earth's past for them to send out another team to investigate. And our main heroes never really have any important interaction with the big bad, General Ursus. Yeah, Brent kills him, but what about before that? There's really nothing except them crossing paths while Brent plays mute. Again, even with those issues I have, I still love this movie.
