It was SO great to see a new Retrospect from you RNG! & how funny is it that Heston holds the records for starring in the most Post/Apocalyptic Films (thanks to this film!) with 4???
I think you are correct.😀
Leonard Rosenman's score is available as part of a 5CD box set produced by the La-La Land soundtrack label.
Great review RNG, for my birthday last year you gave me Planet of The Apes. This year I get Beneath The Planet of The Apes. The mutants explain that the ape's minds cannot hold the illusions for long, as shown in the movie. They really expect their god, a cobalt salted nuke, will save them. Unlike many sequels, this is a good one.
Wow! Happy Belated. 😀
Retro, I always love seeing you be an encyclopedist once more. "The only thing that counts in the end is power! Naked merciless force!" I once knew a guy who MEMORIZED General Ursus's little speech. The Sixties were obsessed with a concept known as a cobalt bomb -- as a boy I wrongly assumed it was super-powerful, but no, its threat lay in being super-poisonous. It is interesting to hear your signature laugh right after saying "And that is why he destroyed the world." Escape is quite sweet (until its inevitable tragic ending) and for me the climax of this whole twisted winding story is the epic rant at the end of Conquest. Thanks, and Excelsior!
Enjoyed your detailed review and agreed with your insight about the mutant humans did not prepare for the apes.
I remember seeing this one at a matinee in the theater when I was a kid.
When the mutants pulled off their faces the audience of mostly kids screamed out loud.
It was so much fun and spooky at the same time.
Oddly, I don't remember the world being blown up as stirring up too much controversy back then.
We were in the middle of the Cold War after all, so it felt like a reasonable thing to present in a Sci-fi movie, as a part of fiction or maybe I just hit my head while hiding under my desk at school during our fallout drills...Lol
Ah yes, I remember the fall out drills. I would have loved to see this in the theater. Wow what a treat to get that reaction from the crowd. Thanks for sharing your experience.😀
I always liked to think as a kid in the 70's that Taylor's detonating the bomb was not intentional as he was dying when he fell forward but its pretty hard to not tell he's actively reaching for it as he dies. A fun, fun movie....obviously not as good as the first but still a fun continuation from it.
I like your theory!
Glat to see a new review. I really miss them. I don't get a lot of free time to watch your live casts so I look forward to the reviews.
I understand. I hit some technical difficulties there for a while that set me back, but presently I am working on more reviews for the future.😀
“The Car” 1977 film is a hidden gem must review. Starring James Brolin.
I'll add that one to my list. I think I saw it, but if so it hasn't been since it came out in 1977. Yikes!😀
My first exposure to this story was reading the Marvel Comics adaptation as a kid in the 70s, then later reading the novelisation. It wasn't until years later - probably some time in the 80s - that I got a chance to see the actual film on the telly. To be honest, I was disappointed. The mutants' makeup wasn't as horrific as I'd imagined, and watching it as an adult the film was quite disjointed, feeling like it was stitched together from several well-made but almost-unrelated set pieces. Still enjoyable, but probably my least favourite of the original five films.
James Franciscus is fantastic as John Brent.😀👍
So true!😀
I have this one on dvd. I can't help it, I like the thing! It's still my second favorite of the series, the first being the original one, that is. How creepy, the concept of the subterranean radio-active survivors with mutilated faces under masks! I remember watching this movie at night in my parent's bedroom, which meant a color tv, when they were out or something and being totally transported. Thanks for another great review.
Thank you! And thanks for sharing your memories of watching this movie!😀
Yay! Been missing the retro reviews 😁This film was quintessential 70s sci-fi dystopian nihilism.
Yay! I just love those Ape films.😀
Great review.
Thank you!😀
BTPOTA is my favourite of the Apes films. Hot take? 😂
Just saw you on Jill's channel. You are great! SUBBED!
Awesome! Thank you!
@@RetroNerdGirl no problem. I love your stuff. Maybe consider checking us out if you want.
It's a watchable sequel. I can't say the same for the other three.
Their all watchable
It was a quintet of films. Not a quadrilogy. LOL.
Thanks. I forgot it's five of them. Oops!😀
Yeah boi!
Just saw the film again. Maybe darker then part one
Maybe? It was the end of the world. Can't get much darker then that!
thanks, very funny,, keep going👍👍
Thanks! 😃
I knew this wouldn't be as good as the first movie but it was worse than I thought. The bad effects and parts in the story that make no sense make it just another b movie that only stands out because it's the sequel to a good movie. This definitely isn't the worst movie in the world even by modern standards but it's really not good.
What worst effects???
@@dolphinsrr All the scenes whit fire and the opening scene where the guy kind of falls into the ground and fades away, also the lightning.
@@huguesdepayens807 I thought the effects were quite good! Never heard anyone complain about the effects!
@@dolphinsrr What's your standard for good? I've seen several comments criticise the specifical effects. Even this video aswell as another review by ape nation criticize the effects.
