Watched a lot of teams this year but hadn’t watched Mateer until OU began the OC search. Watched WSU to see Arbuckle’s O and was blown away by Mateer. He is a baller. Reads the field. Decisive throwing or running. No hesitation. Watching postgame interviews he is cocky. With that headband and his baller mentality I thought Baker immediately. Running that offense with his OC and QBC great situation.
Not his fault who he’s played. So tired of all these Debby downers. Seems like nothing OU does will make you happy. Try being positive. He’s the #1 player that was in the portal. That should make anyone happy. I could only imagine the comments if we didn’t get him. You guys would be in full mental down for someone who last last 3 games. Smh
@dillonflanagan7237 Nobody is forcing you to read the comments, lol. If you're so sensitive that you can't handle a legitimate critique of a player you like, then maybe you should stay off RUclips. Instead, you go off on a bumbling rant and still fail to make any kind of point. The fact is, Mateer played against subpar defenses, and if you think he's going to come into the SEC and light it up the way he did last season, you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you want to press your hands over your ears and block out the facts, then more power to you.
@ I can’t even tell if you’re a fan or not? The only point you made is he played in a different conference. I would think if he wasn’t good he wouldn’t put up the number he did, right? I would think that should be an indication he’s pretty good. Would also think people who rate the players and the other teams who wanted him know A LOT more than u or I do about his potential. I’m sure you’re going to have something else negative to say so I can’t wait for that 👍🏻
I believe that Emmet Jones is looking for receivers in the portal that has had production instead of looking at receivers from power teams that did not have production...
Yes John Mateer is the #1 QB in the portal. Most importantly, the OC came eith him and he is the brain of the offense. Thats whats so special about this situation.
JJ our current OC and TE coach is not looking to OU's future since he expects to leave. Hence our TE problem moving forward. We need to flip a player that has committed elsewhere to make it right.
Question, and be honest, do we really have one OL THAT IS A DIFFERENCE MAKER, OR DOMINANT IN THE SEC. We told a portal player from Georgia Tech, who was a highly rated lineman not to come, and he sign with Arkansas. Are we gambling that one of the bowl teams or playoff teams has players that we are trying to target or is it just a wish list we have missed out on 4 tight end prospects is it the uncertainty that JJ won’t be on staff???
tampering is true life, so maybe that's what's going on? sorta tired of hope. there is no true dispair without hope.....lewis black said........fuck hope.
Dude the guy from GA Tech is not a better prospect than the WCU guy that we landed. The WCU guy we landed also visited and was offered by Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas and Kentucky. So it’s not like we are the only SEC school who was interested in the kid. The OL who committed to Arkansas committed to Arkansas we don’t tell him not to visit. He committed to AR before he made his visit. Some of you people aren’t even clear on what transpires yet have these opinions. He is 6’6” 325 right now and going into next year he will be stronger, quicker and maybe even heavier. Physically he can more than hold up against SEC lineman. We only have so much money to go around and we had a lot of positions to fill on the offensive side of the ball. The players also have to be interested in Oklahoma. Some of you people just assume that we can land every guy in the portal or if our name isn’t listed then we don’t even try. Which is total BS. Don’t you think they would like to land the most elite OLmen in the portal? Of course they would so if they aren’t don’t you think there has to be a valid reason for that? He isn’t Spencer brown. People are all worked up about the school he is coming from but Brown was a starter in the big 10 and Tarquin was a starter in both the SEC as a freshman and then the PAC 12. What did you think about their performances? So the schools aren’t the entire story. Let’s see how they play before we make a decision on whether these are or are not good pickups. Throwing fits now is just a waste of energy.
I’m pretty sure the point of the star situation is no one knows so you aren’t going to get a different answer than what you are getting already. Nobody knows what’s going on other than it appears a disaster from the outside. You can ask what’s going on 100x’s in 100 different systems and the answer won’t change. No one has a freaking clue and that’s the point
Pretty sure the Arkansas kid ran sub 10.2 100. Brennnan Thompson won Texas state 2a with like a 10.26 I believe? Those may not be exact but the kid can fly
@ryanmckinney-ec6jf lol I figured after this season finally the casuals would stop with the preseason over hyping stuff but the 🌞 pumpers are so powerful in the fan base . I'll wait till fall camp injury reports ya know that soft tissue stuff before being hyped
Legitimate reason why Bradley’s numbers took a dive and it’s as simple as he played for Boston College who had major issues at the QB position and passing game. Another player the simpletons will only look at the basic info in front of them and determine the guy is trash without really understanding the type of player he actually is. TE is definitely an issue but Jesus the fact people can’t give it a rest and accept it’s a screwed up situation and there is nothing we can do about it is what’s so exhausting. No shit there are major issues in that room but saying it 10,000 times isn’t going to change that. The kicker may be the biggest prospect we have right now and it’s pretty obvious a great kicking game in the SEC can earn you wins and a bad one losses. So put the kicker and punter jokes aside, these guys are important. Maybe the most important on the board now.
They better pull something outta their ass regarding TE. Noah has said this but BV just has a habit of making issues and problems sometimes where he doesn’t need to. I’m as big of a BV fan and believe that there’s with not one ounce of hate but…..Josh is so right and that is so true and the TE situation is another perfect example. Why give a fan base something to bitch about when there are so many positives going for you? I mean I’m sick of hearing about JJF and the TE room but it’s self inflicted and so I say for a guy who’s job is on the line and having the fan base being behind you or not could make the difference of whether you jerk your job or not, he better pull a rabbit out of the hat otherwise it’s just a miserable self inflicted topic that we will have to listen to for the duration of the offseason.
Here’s my TE dose of hopium: they have someone on a playoff team roster who will portal after the game and come to OU! That’s the lie I’m telling myself and you can’t convince me otherwise.
Mateer is cool, but Manziel was proven with real competition... But hey I HOPE at the end of the season it's Mateer > Manziel but that's a pretty high bar...
If we let Brooks leave because of Ozeata then I have no clue what Bedenbaugh is doing. Howland and Ozeata were terrible this year and had one decent game against bama doing gap scheme runs and we are acting like they are the future. The future is Eddy-Pierre, Fodje, Fasusi, Afalava and should’ve been Eugene Brooks.
It is a shame when us OU fans complain about everything. Why don’t some of a us constant complainers put the pads on, to see how much we are worth. We need to quit complaining and become more optimistic.
I see a lot of Trevor Knight in Mateer. He is an elite runner for a QB, but he does have some issues passing the ball. He has a very quick release, but he has a sidearm release. That helps with screens and short throws getting around defenders, but his deep ball is pretty flat and isn’t real accurate downfield at the consistency you need to be elite. It will also lead to more batted balls with the SEC D Lines, and open him up to injuries when he scrambles or rolls left to throw. Instead of just turning the hips downfield he has to his entire body to get anything on the ball when going left. If he gets hit in that position he’s vulnerable to things like separating his shoulder, breaking his collarbone, or cracking his ribs.
If you’re gonna post like a CIA agent, at least go destabilize a country to protect our national financial & power interests… Or funnel some lonely teenager searching for a community into a belief system that is more likely to support certain political candidates over others. Don’t waste your beautiful god given ability to make up a narrative and type it out on anti-Mateer propaganda in the comment section of a RUclips video format of a podcast about a college football team. Your talents could be used out in the field, big dog. Let OU football fans enjoy getting this year’s total TD leader. (NOT even including rushing TDs, his “non-elite” throw style resulted in more TDs than Dillon Gabriel, Carson beck, Kurtis Rourke, Jaxon Dart, and Will Howard for 5th most in college football)
Baker saw something ( REFLECTION), which is why he picked up the phone and called him. JM has a little bit of everything Mayfield moxy and fight, Murray scramble ability and wheels, Jalen Strength squats 600 lbs strong legs. Hey is there no interest for the DT from Georgia Jameel Jarrett
We’ve got Mitchell who was a 5 star before reclassifying and was knocked down to a 4star. He’ll be a good player.
How is anyone surprised that the TEs in the portal are shunning OU? Look who the TE coach is! Move Finley out and there will be a Lot more interest.
Finley is hanging his whole career at OU on recruiting Davon Mitchel at this point

I really want this kicker. Coming in tomorrow I believe
What happened to Marvin Jones Jr? They not after him anymore??
Mateer is way more comparable to Baker than Dillon. What is George on? 😂
His pocket presence is equal to Mayfields, Gabriel's, not so much
Fears scored 31 on Michigan . OU bball 11-0

Any truth that Arbuckle is going back to Washington State to be the HC? Per Dean Blevins earlier
No
I think better luck in getting a TE if you announced a new TE coach
We can add bodies but still only get 5 on the field at a time. We need players who can win against SEC linemen.
Exactly. Staff is too worried about depth. If none of the guys are elite, then depth doesn't really matter.
