Oklahoma had so much drama this year that how good their defense was completely overlooked. They had as good a case as anyone for best defense in the SEC. Give them just a competent offense and they'll be a problem.
Yes BUT their secondary is absolute garbage if the front 7 isn’t getting pressure. Now, I will say it’s hard to be great at defense when you’re on the field for the most snaps in the entire sport but the secondary is definitely where they need to improve
@@Bass_n_barbells i think it's more about the system requiring the secondary to take the blunt of it, especially the 10--15 yard area. LSU exposed that. it's not an automatic that it will be a problem, but if there is an open spot, it's that. they have to be perfect a times basically. when bend don't break doesn't work, you'll see those 3rd and 10-15 plays turn into 1st downs. I've been watching this for years, going back to when BV was at OU as a D cord.
Arbuckle being here is arguably as big of a deal as mateer himself because the play calling last year was beyond awful. We got another OL today and a couple of WR's yesterday. its starting to look like we will be better next year (thank goodness) mostly because its so easy to improve this offense simply due to it being horrendous. mediocre offense gets us wins against TN, Mizzou and South Carolina. Maybe even LSU but we will never know. it certainly gets us at least 2 more wins which is huge.
@@B00MERS00NERTX I didn't see any important ones on the offensive line we had one of the worst offensive lines in the country and I don't see it getting any better the only thing that's going to improve this team is an entire new coaching staff it's time to get rid of Brent venables
@@jdwilmoth false. There’s a lot of young talented guys on the o line. That’s why towards the end of the year, you seen the line get better. Well that was because they finally started playing the guys for the future.

Not that I’m saying it’s gonna happen but this has the feel of Baker, Kyler, Jalen, and even DG! Guys that were good but on teams that weren’t as good. They came to OU and two won Heisman’s, one was a finalist but didn’t win, then DG was a finalist this year. I’m hoping this is the result. I’m being cautiously optimistic for Mateer and I think he’ll be able to teach Hawkins some confidence.
Settle down. He doesn't have Bakers accuracy or quick release. He is a good scrambler, both for yards and to extend plays. But lets not pin the Heisman on him just yet. I will settle for the obvious that it's a massive improvement over last year. "YUGE!"

Mizzou for sure. Tennessee is a coin toss but I don’t think we beat LSU even with Mateer.
