Completely agree with your observations on the MPSS. A great summer tire that gives a load of feedback, but they’re loud and as they wear they become almost dangerous in the wet/cold. I went for the Goodyear Asymmetric 5 as it’s quite cold right now and I wanted some comfort. Happy so far, will go for the super sport next.
Reg your experience pretty much sums up how I felt behind the wheel of my 140 on the Michelin Supersports, unless it was a warm dry day they would be spinning out of junctions and in general just lack grip. I now run two sets of OEM wheels one clad with the excellent Michelin Crossclimate+ for the months of October to March, honestly the car has been transformed into something truly usable and predictable, no more being sat at junctions just needlessly spinning with TC flashing away or going sideways at the slightest hint of throttle. One tradeoff however you do lose some steering speed and precision but that's a given and nowhere near as bad as a full on winter tyre.
Thank you for the video ! As an m140i owner (stage2) I think the tyres are crucial to the car. I don't do track days, and run PS4 all round, so I think I'll be sticking to them.
Just got the good year eagle f1 asimetric 6’s for my m140i they are beter than ps4 much more feedback only down side is there stifer but for me thats not realy a problem
I've had my 2014 m135i a year, I don't track it and really it's a second car that doesn't get used much. When driving the car the last few months over the winter I've have no confidence in the car at all, pulling out of junctions at anything other than a snails pace can result in wheel spin even if the roads cold or slightly damp. I have the "*" BMW Pilot Supersport fitted and they have plenty of tread. Glad I found this video to confirm it's the tyres, I'll be swapping them out for Mich Ps5 or Goodyear F1 Asy 6's shortly.
Just put them on my mk3 focus st and I think they are the best yet. Michelin ps4 wear fast. And had assymetric 5 and 6 and my god but yeah when they wear and in wet they get less confidence enspiring. Great vid
I had ps4 my car, handling was excellent no wheel spin or twitching almost felt like 4 wheel drive. Switched to Goodyear a5 and it’s kickes out all the time spins out in the wet, it does feel faster though and more fun to drive but as you said the Goodyear are slightly less reassuring because your not sure what it’s going to do.
I know you want to make a new video regarding the PS4’s but I’m reaching the point where I now need new tyres on my 140. Did you find the sidewall of the PS4 too soft or did they cope?
@@roadreg1820 Reg, by PS4 ‚coped better‘ (as PSS) you probably refer to the tyre wear, right ?! In general the PS4 (tyre wall) should be a lot softer and give you less steering feedback and less high speed stability of the car compared to PSS, right ?!
@@detailerslife8127 ok thanks - it was a bit confusing in your statement above Do you had PSS before ? How much worse is the comfort of the F1SS (potholes etc) compared to PSS ?
@@vollcare4076 i generally don’t drive on roads with potholes. It only has 6,000klms, original PSS where an afterthought in my opinion for the M140 by BMW! Comfort is something I’m not concerned with in a low end performance car. I purchased the M140 to keep in storage as in years to come it’ll be nice to have a few left that haven’t been modified or tracked which aren’t piles of crap.

I had Goodyear Eagle F1’s on the rear of my E46 M3. They lasted 4 years with good grip in wet and dry conditions. I’ve now replaced them with PS4’s.
what do you think then? I'm debating ps4s or good years.

Hi Gaz! Yep, you cannot go wrong with either of those tyres. Glad the video helped 😃
100% all I ever use across all cars imo goodyears f1,s are the best tyre

Glad you’re enjoying them!
The new continentals seem to be amazing miles ahead of any of the current Michelins
What is the wear like though? Continental tyres have terrible wear from my experience.
Are they available in 140 sizes?
@@roadreg1820 he was referring to SportContact7 most likely, as currently released and tested with very good results.

Reg, where did you had the tire wear on the PSS:
Outside on front tire?
Inside on rear tires ?
Both, but more on the inside
Forgot to mention $1520 for all 4.

They coped a little better than the MPSS’s but if you want to do track days with them, the Goodyears is a better choice.

Just put 4 Goodyear F1 Supersports on my 2019 M140 245/35/ZR18 92. Rear 235/40/ZR18 92. Brilliant on our very hot roads in Australia.
