  • In this video we briefly glimpse at the world of Proxy cards in Magic.
Giving an unbiased review of a product & sharing what's cool & what's not, as well as some of the things to look for when dealing with expensive cardboard if you're new to the game. It's important to know what to look for when you're trying to identify proxies.
Ultimately, it's up to your playgroup on what is disallowed. Be safe & smart and always get a second opinion if you're unsure.
It's also important to mention that as of last year, even WotC is printing proxies. And yet, still a lot of people have a problem with people playing them.

proxy king dot biz -- 20% off coupon code HappyFall20 -- I am not affiliated and will not receive kickbacks from this, same price (or cheaper) that I got them for. I debated not posting this but ultimately people's ethics are up to them. I hope nobody misuses these because of my link, if so, that's on them. (deep breath) Enjoy

Honestly as i am a new player i'd rather get some real boosters and maybe experiment deck building with a batch of proxies like these.. I just cannot justify spendings thousands... I'd just spend some time while sleeving and sharphie "proxy" all over the back.. keeps my concience clean and i get so experience cards i could never afford..

I stopped buying real cards about 2 years ago at this point. For reference, I've been playing since day one of release back in 93. I've sold off the bulk of my real cards, and as I exclusively play EDH, I have been making and ordering my own proxies using MPC. I have 19 decks at this point, and each deck only costs about $60. And, as I am more of a casual (read: REAL EDH) player, I don't have many proxies of uber expensive cards in them. Some of my normal play group have also started making proxy decks as well. It's cheaper and allows people to try decks and cards they normally would not have access to.

Proxies in Cubes are perfectly acceptable, it's the only way a normal person can draft a Black Lotus.

The problem is that wizards is trying so hard to walk the tightrope between keeping collectors happy and making the game approachable for new players. Only solution is if they find a way to make base versions of the cards cheap and special art and boarders more collectible. Right now that price gap is non existent.

I use the same backs for my proxies. However, the way I definitely avoid passing any card (including double-faced) is by omitting printing the foil stamp in ALL rares and mythics.

I went to a local card store in the late 90s and bought a Kai Budde World Championship deck. The guys at the store told me they were proxys. At some point in time, someone somewhere decided that A : They're real Magic cards, and B : They're worth something. The deck literally came with blank gold-bordered cards, presumably for additional sideboard proxies?
They are real WOTC cards, some are worth something... but even WOTC made and sold their proxies many moons ago, looong before the 30th anniversary. Let's be sure we are distinguishing between proxies and counterfeit. There is NOTHING wrong with playing with proxies for the joy of the game. The rarity is a BS marketing system, an early "Pay to win" mechanism,, long before smartphones and mobile "pay-to-win" games existed. Everyone should be able to enjoy MTG, regardless of the size of their wallets. If one wants to spend, trade, invest, and sell, that's another way of going about it but then becomes less about playing the game and is a personal choice.

Reprint everything to oblivion, IMO the ORIGNAL prints should hold the value overtime, with collectors , and new players turned collector. no reason a lotus should be 15k

Even though WotC themselves are selling proxies and charging people 1 thousand dollars for 4 packs? Anyone who tries to resell these is a scumlord, but so is Wizards in general as of late. It's a strange crossroads, but I do find it hilarious & understand your nervousness - but just remember - Wizards wants you to spend 1k on 4 packs of proxies. F them.

@@GeorgieTheMagicManit's good to see a RUclipsr act like a normal human being and not like they're above everyone leaving witty little handful word comments that seems so robotic or soul deprived. Keep up the great work speaking the truth. Wizards is atrocious. If the community had backbone to match their kindness we wouldn't be this far in the hole, but unfortunately the majority just gobble up everything that spoon fed to them by mother wizards and the company has been allowed to run rampant with overpriced garbage conditioned product and horrible story telling.

10 packs for 70$ 7$ a pack 7$ / 16 = just shy of 44 cents a card, not bad. It's cheaper then getting your own cards on the site, the least is 75 cents.

Its funny i found this video. There's a little situation going on at my lgs. One of my buddies recently traded with someone who apparently ripped him off with fakes. He basically converted his fake collection into real cards. However these "proxies" are getting harder and harder to detect it took several of us to look over the cards to find out they were fakes. Needless to say my boy is livid and even wanted to resort to violence, which i can somewhat understand since it was quite a chunk of change he lost. However i just hope that scumbag doesn't show his face because it might get really messy since my buddy is Marine that served two tours in Afghanistan...

      @GeorgieTheMagicMan  10 месяцев назад +1

Scammers are everywhere and my heart goes out to your buddy. Fuckin shame. And that guy won't reappear if he knew they were fakes, so more than likely he's stuck with a really damn expensive growing pain. I carry a jewelers loupe with my decks and it's positioned so anyone that sees me open it sees the loupe first. But then again I haven't traded in ages. Be safe out there.

95% of my collection; came from packs that i pulled myself. bought some cards on ebay; tcgplayer and card kingdom. all purchases on ebay for singles were from 100% sellers; and those purchases of cards were from sets that just came out. im very protective of my mtg investment . im a player first and foremost; but collector 2ndary. even still; my collection is something im very proud of. even if it's 20 years after i stopped playing and sold all my old shit off. started collecting back again in 2020. only focusing on new sets. new sets don't get faked at first.

I've seen proxies before releases of key cards, but I understand what you mean. Being someone who also did (2) hard exits from the game & returned at the peak of 2021, I'm a big fan of good cards regardless of value. I dont plan on selling so I won't feel any real loss aside from what I paid initially, which I felt was worth it. So, natural erosion doesn't get to me as much as many others. My value comes from building, strategizing & playing. And now making these videos as well. Hell of a deal if you ask me.

Been doing this for years, don’t let anyone tell you to do other wise. There are weirdos in my area that will try to get you banned from tournaments if they find out your using proxies. I even played modern with proxies, just double sleeve and no one will ever know the difference. The funniest part about it is looking at the cards I’ve proxyed when they were worth $60+, now be worth $5 or $10.

Real cards and proxies has the same value for me.
I get no more fun out of a 1k card than I do out of a 0.45 card. In fact, 0.45 already seems expensive to me if I'm being honest.
Real cards at high prices, are not to play with. They are for speculation. And for me Magic is just a card game.

Processes have generally improved. High resolution digital artwork is more readily available then ever. With that being said, counterfeits are actually easy to make nowdays. It does require a lot of hard work and time to get the perfect microns of every tcg cards out there.
And making counterfeit aint cheap either. Youll need some expensive material and most of all..... an expensive printer. You might even lose a lot of money at the beginning if youre an amateur. But in the end, profit is made.
To anyone who has mastered this art craft, you wouldnt even notice any difference and is undistinguishable from a standard card. I wouldnt be surprised if all cards on the internet in a few years are only proxies.

That horrible sound when the cards are scratching each others, clearly fake even by sound 😂
I bought proxies not so long ago, to organize a unhinged draft, boosters box are more than a thousand and all cards are illegals and will never see play somewhere else anyway, so for a little friend event it was great.
