Musicians like this will never come around again nor will the radio care to challenge the listener base like radio of yore. Talent like this was and is pioneering.....The holy trinity of progressive rock!
I came to finally appreciate years later what a lightning bolt of sheer magic that recording of "Fanfare" is. Keith is *all over* that Yamaha GX-1 and it sounds just magnificent; you can't really get there with any other instrument. And it's just them playing live in a rehearsal hall - one microphone.
I'm an M.E. so I'm not prone to philosophical outbursts but I find it incredible that in the infinite fabric of space and time, that I was in the same pinpoint of space and instant in time as these three, who stand upon the Pantheon of what we know as music.
They were so good! If a R&R fan had to name the 10 best guitarists, 10 best keyboardists and the 10 best drummers each of these talented men would find themselves in each top 10!
Greg Lake talks about the tremendous motivation they had when doing Black Moon. Unfortunately it had evaporated when they did in In the Hot Seat, what a pity.
This is from "ABC In Concert", the title..."late night TV interview" does not tell you much about the video. ELP was newly reunited and they were promoting their new album, "Black Moon".
Thanks! We find it's best to leave descriptions vague, to be clarified in comments, in order to keep clips from getting challenged or removed. Thanks for watching and commenting!
By the way that was drummer Mitch Mitchell bat came up with the help moniker. Mitchell had actually audition far the Carl Palmer spot but as we all know Greg and Keith picked Carl😊
I'll tell you what I believe the reason for that is. The great Carl Palmer one all on the polls in the 1970s cream circus Playboy Etc. Buy 1978 1979 for all practical purposes Emerson Lake and Palmer were over. At least for us folks that grew up listening to them in the early seventies. These kids today weren't exposed to Carl Palmer at least like we were. So naturally their votes went to people like Neil Peart. Furthermore elps music was not as accessible as say a Led Zeppelin to the younger people of later days due to Progressive rocks taking a nosedive after the late 70s. I hope that explains it to you a little😢
I miss you Greg and Keith. What a loss. It never stops hurting.
Miss you Greg and Keith!!!
Amazing group. Very talented and love the mix of classical music with prog rock.❤

It’s been a dream of mine to practice the prog rock style, would love a revival.

Totally agree, in the 70’s Carl was often considered and was voted the best drummer in the rock world!
