Keith Emerson was the NICEST & most HUMBLE GENIUS in the music business. I met him & never could figure out just where his innate humility came from??? RIP Brother Keith !!! Love Always...
Possibly the greatest Keyboardest to ever live. him and Rick Wakeman were my favorites growing up in the 70s. RIP Keith.
What really hurt Kieth was all the low lives talking bad about him when he was struggling with major muscle loss in his arms. He had a few surgery's to have muscles removed due to nerve damage. He was also going through depression at the time. There will NEVER BE anyone as good as KIETH EMERSON. RIP SIR.
Emerson Lake and Palmer sold around 48 million albums so Keith was a very wealthy man, it just shows that even people with all the material things in life can be overcome by depression. RIP Keith.
Thank you for this visit to my hero's final resting place. From the first time I heard "Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends..."--the live album, I was a huge fan. I am a keyboardist/composer and much of my jazz and classical training was energized by Keith's path as a player. I dreamed of being the "next" Keith Emerson while in High School. My technical abilities outshined many, but my path led to a career as a surgeon. All the while, I have continued to honor my hard earned skills at the keyboards by continuing to create original compositions and share as much as I can. Near the end of his life, I met Keith, shook his hand, gave him gifts, and made an impression on him enough that he reached out to me to collaborate on my project, which he, in part, inspired: The Player Piano Mouse. Unfortunately, he left us before that could ever be realized. My heart ached for months and continues to as the years have passed beyond his final breath. I was lucky to hold his hand, but for a few moments. I was lucky to have touched him and inspire him as he had given me so many, many years of inspiration. Somewhere, in heaven, he continues to instruct my musical path combined with my surgical endeavors for the community. I'll always hold Keith in a special place amongst the stars. The bond I have shared with many of his fans is a gift that continues to reveal new adventures. Rest In Peace, Keith Noel Emerson.
Thank you Adam, That's great to hear. I love to hear how some of the people who's graves I visit have helped inspire others.... Awesome that you're a surgeon, but keep playing those keys....
Adam, what a beautiful story and memories. Thank you for sharing and for what you do as a surgeon. Your story just shows how kind and generous this amazing man was. I too had a chance to meet him and was bold enough to ask for a hug, which he obliged. It was the highlight of my life and I wish I had the ability to speak on the higher musical level to him but he was very kind. At 65, I still grieve this beautiful mind and soul. That's how powerful his music effected me from teen years on.
I had that album too when it first came out it was a combination birthday and Christmas gift
The Welcome Back album was from the Brain Salad Surgery tour.
I was fortunate enough to see it performed at Madison Square Garden back in Dec ‘73
One of the greatest shows I was lucky enough to see. ❤️😎
@@topcat43truffles15 That is incredible. Were you the guy that yelled out "Crazy" right as Greg was about to do Lucky Man?
I knew Keith through a friend who worked closely with him for many years…. and of course, through his stunning music. His death was a devastating piece of news. He is still missed.
Can’t believe he’s still not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame .
I can
A crime.
Because the hall is a joke
The Hall is owned by Jann Wenner, owner of Rolling Stone Magazine, it is a commercial scam, wake up rube
Thank you Paul for this respectful visit to my childhood Hero. Rest in peace Keith
I visited his grave today after a man I met last week told me he was buried just a few miles away from where I live. I was an ELP fan back in the day. RIP Keith, thanks for the lovely music you created! Those pianos were in different spots when I visited.
Great band! Always loved listening to them. RIP Keith. And Greg also.💖
Growing up in Mexico ELP were very popular and we used comment about Keith's amazing keyboard playing like no other, he was to us the master of keyboard distortion just like Hendrix on guitar. RIP Maestro.🙏
Keith Emerson and his band mates certainly did their part to introduce the masses to classical music.
KE long ago got me hooked on pipe organ music. Now I collect and listen to everything from Bach to Messiaen.
Keith’s suicide was one of the saddest ends in R&R… I always loved his playing from when I first saw The Nice, who were a truly great band. I lost track of his career after ELP split, and knew nothing at all about The Best - but wow - what a line up! RIP Keith, you were a true keyboard genius
Keith Emerson was a genius his music with ELP is without doubt magical and legendary it never ages like our regard for this great man and his great fellow performers Greg Lake very sadly deceased and Carl Palmer. Just wonderful
Yes indeed.What a terrible loss.
Just realised a vid has already been done for Jeff apologies , glad the channel has already spotted and talked about him
RIP Keith and Greg.
E L P Live was fantastic!!!...Brain Salad Surgery too .'.... welcome back my friends and Peter Gunn...was two of my favorite songs by these guys..... there are now music 🎶🎶🎶..in this Generation!!!!
I saw The Nice at one of their earliest gigs at The Marquee in Wardour Street, London, supporting The Jimi Hendrix Experience when David O’List was their guitarist - what a night! The attendance record for the venue was broken, and people were passing out with the heat. Keith Emerson R.I.P.
Bet that was fantastic ! I loved The Marquee, it was my fave venue ever to go to gigs …they had the “star bar” upstairs and it had a spiral staircase going up to it , as I nearly fell down it going too fast when I was at a after show party there in 1989 lol , I was a little bit tipsy on vodka and orange hehe …
I remember that the Marquee did get hot inside when it was baking outside … RIP Keith hope he’s resting in peace xx
Nice.......!!!!haven't heard America for over 50yrs,never did understand what the girl says !!!
One of the saddest days was when Mr. Emerson Passed. He was 1 of my all-time hero's. Rest in peace Kieth.
ELPs frrst abum and Trilogy are 2 of my all time favorite albums. Listened to them countless times over the decades. Still do! They were huge in the states in the 70's. RIP Keith and Greg.
I went two see them in contactand boy theywere nosey but am glad it did rip Keith and Greg fly hight in the sky
Saw ELPs last Gig at Victoria Park in London. very good. On a trip down to a family funeral I visited Jon Lords grave followed by Keith’s Two great keyboard players
So much talent from that generation came from Yorkshire 👍
It's still coming too Louise! Great name, BTW! 😉😊
@@ellesee7079 Yours too 👌🙏
Loved ELP back in the 80”s when the late great cozy Powell joined the group all great musicians and sadly missed but never forgotten 👏👏🎹🥁🎸
Another great video Paul!
The quotation "...let the wind sweep and the plover cry" around the top of the gravestone comes from the poem "Come not, when I am dead..." by Alfred Lord Tennyson:
Come not, when I am dead,
To drop thy foolish tears upon my grave,
To trample round my fallen head,
And vex the unhappy dust thou wouldst not save.
There let the wind sweep and the plover cry;
But thou, go by.
Child, if it were thine error or thy crime
I care no longer, being all unblest:
Wed whom thou wilt, but I am sick of Time,
And I desire to rest.
Pass on, weak heart, and leave me where I lie:
Go by, go by.
Thank you for that info…. 🙏
Keith Emerson lived in Chiddingly in East Sussex he used to go to a pub called the Six Bells and did jamming sessions with local bands.
The word on the headstone is plover (which is a sea bird ). A lovely tribute to this hugely talented man.
A nice tribute Paul, Lancing is a lovely coastal town in Sussex. RIP Keith. ✝️
I met Carl Palmer at a drum clinic had a little chat to him about when he appeared on BBC Rockschool got his autograph very nice chap.
Thank you for doing this !! RIP, Maestro.
A kinda cool aside ? I was just given a full size, original poster of Keith Emerson from '73.
I'll always treasure it, much like his music !!
🚬😎👍
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Fanfare For The Common Man, anthem of the 70s
RIP Keith Emerson & Greg Lake
That video is awesome..
A RUINED Aaron Copland piece you mean!
And of course not forgetting Cozy Powell who took over from Carl Palmer.. back together.. rip
A great band.♥️
Saw ELP Royal Albert Hall 1992. Brilliant concert, such a talented trio. RIP Keith and Greg
Did you know that Led Zeppelin played at royal Albert hall in 1969 and 1970 and on Jimmy Page's birthday? (January 9th)....both Jimmy and Keith were born in 1944
I remember the Albert Hall gigs of 1992. After the gig, me and a mate went round the back to try to get a glimpse of the band as they came out.
Carl came straight out and jumped in a people carrier without stopping.
Greg hung about a bit, signed a few things but Keith, well Keith did anything he was asked. He signed everything, posed with the picture takers and seemed happy to please the fans. He was a lovely charming man.
I want to visit his resting place as I simply loved the band and the music.
I'm a Sussex girl, and took myself off to see Keith's grave not long ago. Such a quiet spot. Best concert I ever went to was ELP at the Dome in Brighton in 1972.
Keith was the greatest - integrator of classical, jazz, folk, rock and electronic sides of this wonderful gift we all have - music that links us all. He was my leader and inspiration, will never forget him 🔥
One of my favourite band's can't wait 👍
Great band bk in the 70s made good songs so sad Keith took his own life 😔 May he Rest in peace 🙏🕊️🌹legend on the keyboards 🎹
Another elo star Greg Lake passed away in 2016 too but his ashes are buried with his parents in Poole cemetery
Another source says that Greg Lake was laid to rest in London, while his parents were interred in Poole. I wish I could plant ivy near where he lies.
He also composed music with another band.....The Nice. They preceded ELP.
I recommend Five Bridges Suite. Some people say that was his finest work.
Thx Paul.
Very sad💔 RIP🎹🎶 Touch and Go is super epic!
Emerson Lake and Palmer, sie sind mir auch ein Begriff.
Danke für die Erinnerung 😌
Thank you Paul for guiding us to the final resting places of these great musicians.
Love the "there goes the neighborhood" quote at the bottom.... "you have to keep things flying" was keith's favorite sayings. lovely video, Paul. Got to meet Keith in 1988 in St. Louis. very charming and kind. I was shocked when he died. but his Music was his life.
Great you got to meet him, he seems like he was a lovely man too. 🙏
I had the very high honor of very briefly meeting Maestro Emerson in San Francisco in May
of 1988. He was touring with Carl Palmer and Robert Berry. They called the band "3" and
I saw him get off of the tour bus at the venue they were going to perform at. Walked up to
him and asked him for his autograph. He was happy to give it and I still have it today, in a
frame, with the ticket stub from the concert. It is my most prized possession . RIP "Fingers".
Keith was a wonderful talent and in everything he did.ELP underrated by many sadly.
They were TOPS THE MUSIC WAS THE BEST
Keith has always been my favorite musician! Even before ELP.
R.I.P. Keith! I miss you very much!
God bless you Keith
2016, the year we lost so many musical greats. What a lovely gravestone with the wee piano♥️. How lovely of John to visit often too.
ELP...........................the BEST of the BEST..............................TY for the video ..........subscribed
There’s a video on Greg Lake on the channel to
Tks Paul, growing up many of us from the 70's idolised Keith, he was unique, the passion, the skill, a musical genius. We'd known of the issues with his hands for a while, his depression etc, I recall thinking I hoped he'd perhaps turn his focus more to conducting which he had done to an extent previously, but it would seem his love of playing was irreplaceable. RIP Keith, you may be gone but your music lives on, God bless.
Hi Paul, really enjoyed this video. How very sad that he killed himself,he must of been in the most horrible turmoil knowing he would not be able to play his music. At least he is resting with his mum and dad, bless him.Thankyou Paul,I love listening to you telling their stories, makes it so more interesting.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this video.
Keith emerson wasy most beloved artist of my life, and i wish to visit there someday.
I wish he is fly in heaven now.
May god bless his soul.
Rest in peace dear angel ❤
Determined to go here to pay my respects and leave Keith some flowers....
Interesting video, Paul.
That bloke at the end, John, looks a little like Peter Gabriel with a goatee.
I thought it was him!!
As I'm sure he did for many, Keith led me to an appreciation for Brubeck, Copland, Ginastera, Bach, Bartok, Janacek, Joplin, Miles Davis, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, etc. He mated the richness of western musical heritage with electronics and dynamic live performance along with his able bandmates (and eventually quad sound!) and made the whole thing super cool. Thanks a million. Rock Hall take note.
Awww that was lovely that John came and joined you and had a chat. ❤️
Keith Emerson rose to be a giant in the music world. It is so sad that his depression over losing his wonderful ability to play at an extraordinary level caused him to leave us so early. Playing was not his only talent....he was a wonderful composer . His music and spirit is embedded in our memories, and when I hear Rachel Flowers perform it, I realize in some manner Keith is still alive inside all of us. When our time comes, maybe we'll get a chance to thank him for what he gave us.
I will always remember the times that I got to watch you play. RIP Dear one, Love and miss you Keith
I liked how it started to rain for you as you approached Keith Emerson’s grave.
WOW; remember that tune so much, never knew who composed it. RIP Keith. And what a beautiful gravestone. Tragic and sad end to this life.
I saw them in concert in Nov of 1974 in Wichita Kansas... It was life changing.. It was at the end of their 'welcome back my friends' tour...
I also saw them at that concert. Probably the best concert I ever attended!
@@swather777 It was an amazing show... I realized that I could never be Keith Emerson... I didnt have the patience. But I knew I could be the best me, possible... I saw Chicago in March of 75 also at the Henry Levitt Arena... and it made an impression on me with that guitar of Terry Kath. Chicago showed me that a true ensemble could put out some very impressive shit... and the piano player didnt have to do it all... 😂
@@drmorqWarrenProject I also saw that concert and it was great! My first two concerts at Henry Levitt were Three Dog Night in January 1970 and Alice Cooper in July 1972. Both great concerts! But, I remember the '72 concert as being ungodly hot inside.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer were very big in Australia in the 1960's- 1970's .
Loved him! Ty for the visit! Wish I could see him! Did see the boys in 1993. 😘 💋
I’m a big time fan that’s a place i’d very much like to pay a visit. Been to london back in early 2022 didn’t have time to go all the way down to sussex :(
Great video thank you for remembering this incredibile artist.
Very interesting video thank you from Sylvia ukxx
My cousins were friends with elp and us two go two Greg's house in Poole dorest
That’s so cool…. 🙌
I knew someone who went to school with Greg in Poole ☺
Too sad..... suicide. It breaks my heart. He was also an outstanding composer & his best was yet to come. God love ya' Keith & RIP.
Only time the news of a celebrity's death made my break down in tears. I don't think I've had a greater hero to look up to.
The greatest pianist of all time! Rip 🙏
Live 30 min from the cemetery will defo pay keith a visit 🎹
Evening everyone 😀 x Evening Paul x
Thank you for this item. When I went there it was less than six months after Keith passed so there was nothing there. I think you have to wait six months for a headstone to be put in place. Funnily enough it was raining that day too.
Emerson lake and palmer brilliant progressive band
Damn.. Did not realize he ended his life.. For a Trio they made tremendous music no doubt..
Noticed that just in front of Keiths grave is PC Jeff Tooley who was killed on duty whilst trying to stop a motorist who was speeding, I remember that time and how sad that was.
Fantastic ! Keep them coming Paul .Great respect...RIP Keith.2016 We lost so many greats Grorge Micheal , Prince , Leonard Cohen and of course Greg Lake RIP
Loved Trilogy it was brilliant.....still is.
I've been a fanatic fan of ELP since their first album came out when I was in 10th grade! As for "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland...Keith took it to the next level like nobody else could. Keith was such an AMAZING composer and keyboard player!!!!
So glad you could attend, come inside, come inside.
RIP KE. Thanks for sharing
R I P Keith ..Thank you for the joy you brought so so many
Leeds in 74 (ish). Great concert. I knew he’d be jumping over that battered Hammond at some point. Camera at the ready. The moment came. Click! Got it. Not got it, I’d left the bloody lens cover on. Aaaagh! Slept in a workman’s hut on a roundabout having missed the bus back to Ripon. Wonderful memories of a great man and musician.
I enjoyed Keith's playing in the Nice back in the late 60's, particularly his album, Ars Longa Vita Brevis, which translates to Skillfulness takes time and Life is short. A fitting epitaph perhaps. R. I. P. and thanks for the music, Keith 👊
Excellent video s
Thank you, Paul, for a wonderful reminiscence of my younger days ...
I *experienced* The Nice at Edinburgh's Usher Hall, early summer 1970, when I was 19 years old. *Excellent.* During the gig, Keith climbed up to the multi-piped organ in the venue, and 'let rip!'.
All us boys and girls had a dashed good time ...
Rest In Peace Keith, and your mates.
I have attached a PS. containing YT links to two albums of The Nice and ELP which I, selfishly, recommend to viewers - hoping they won't be 'cancelled'.
In conclusion: Thanks again. I've already stacked up a playlist of your work and looking forward to catch-up.
All the best, U T. Stay free. Rab 🍻 😎 ⏳ 🎲 🌠

Awesome video... Summer showers coming down, but definitely didn't dampen your spirit, of looking around. Beautiful Grave, and well maintained too. Thank you again Paul.
RIP Keith , such a awesome genius ….. so sad he took his own life , he too was a victim of mean comments on line , some saying he should stop playing after he had surgery , and that added to his depression and he was worried as he didn’t want to let his fans down on the upcoming Japan tour ….how terribly sad he took his life ….yet again to remind people always to remember the words of beautiful Caroline Flack - **BE KIND**
thanks again Paul , another respectful video …..if I was famous , I would be so proud if u had ever visited my grave , like I’m sure everyone else has been , who has passed ,as u do it with such dignity , respect , care and love … much love from me as always 🥰 xx
I loved elp...still listen to their music.. . Thank you Paul for doing this amazing tribute to him..
What I meant to say in my comment was one of my favourite band's back in the day. Thanks in advance paul 👍
There's a RUclips upload of Keith Emerson playing Bach's Tocatta and Fugue backwards (from the end to the begining) and standing on the wrong side of the keyboard.
He really was a phenomenal keyboardist with an incredible talent.
Hello Paul Nice of that man to come and speak with you . You looked like you was getting so wet and you still kept filming for us all , bless your heart.
Alan Freeman certainly loved the band and used short stings taken from 'Trilogy' during his daily afternoon show on Radio 1 from May 1972 to June 1973.
I loved Alan Freeman he introduced me to some great music
He would have been 95 this week Paul.
Great great live band
“Pictures At An Exhibition” has to be the concert to start with, for anyone new to ELP. - Rock in Peace Keith. You’re sorely missed.❤🎹
It made me feel so sad to see his grave... together with his photos in concerts. It was the end that he chose. Really sad...
The poem on his grave says this:
Come Not, When I am Dead
Come not, when I am dead,
To drop thy foolish tears upon my grave,
To trample round my fallen head,
And vex the unhappy dust thou wouldst not save.
There let the wind sweep and the plover cry;
But thou, go by.
Child, if it were thine error or thy crime
I care no longer, being all unblest:
Wed whom thou wilt, but I am sick of Time,
And I desire to rest.
Pass on, weak heart, and leave me where I lie:
Go by, go by.
We miss u ELP WERE THE BEST OUT THERE GREG'S VOICE AWESOME RIP SIR KEITH 🇺🇲🇨🇱🇬🇧
So grateful to visit the monument to one of my heroes, and guide through the world of instrumental music, the other being Mingus. I am still in awe of the genius of Mr. Emerson. Thank you.
Just the absolute greatest keyboard player EVER! Thanks for posting this!
GRACIAS por tu vídeo, 👍
