You should do the ko-katana, it's my favorite weapon mostly because it's a shorter blade version of a regular katana, but the handle was the same length making it still deadly, but it was used because when samurai's have to fight in tight spaces instead of a open field, it was easier to handle their blades instead of making it more of a challenge to defeat their opponents.

"Better to die than be a coward" is the motto of the world-famous Nepalese Gurkha soldiers who are an integral part of the British Army.
They still carry into battle their traditional weapon - an 18-inch long curved knife known as the kukri.
In times past, it was said that once a kukri was drawn in battle, it had to "taste blood" - if not, its owner had to cut himself before returning it to its sheath. More than 200,000 fought in the two world wars, and in the past 50 years they have served in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Borneo, Cyprus, the Falklands, Kosovo and now in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They serve in a variety of roles, mainly in the infantry but with significant numbers of engineers, logisticians and signals specialists.
The name "Gurkha" comes from the hill town of Gorkha from which the Nepalese kingdom had expanded.
The ranks have always been dominated by four ethnic groups, the Gurungs and Magars from central Nepal, the Rais and Limbus from the east, who live in villages of impoverished hill farmers.

5160 spring steel differential heat treat. Want a harder edge to retain the edge but not too hard. Want a softer spine to absorb shock but not too soft. Give it more of a belly to put some mass out front to help move it through that swing, bites deeper in a chop and slices clean and smooth. Only change i would make from the traditional is a coke bottle shaped handle, that shaped palm swell will keep it from sliding or rolling in your hand, gives way more control. Would still keep the handle as a rosewood or buffalo horn or maybe even stacked buffalo leather.

I bought one recently, which is claimed to have been made in Nepal by traditional smiths. I'm an American and can't prove it was actually Nepalese-made, but it seems to be true. It's heavy but very strong and an intelligent design. Americans are often mocked for our bad knowledge of other countries and their traditions, but I respect Nepalese weapons and Gurkhas.

A traditional kukris temper is based on the part of the blade the spine is different than the point to the sweet spot and the rest is tempered differently it means the spin is the strongest so you really can beat things on it to split wood and so on
