You sir have explained everything that wasn't in other videos on RUclips. I thank you so much for doing so.( you also have inspired me to do this project
Thats pretty cool,I converted a schwinn s500 electric scooter to chain driven gas so I know how much work goes into building something like that.I am currently building another just like it.
to fit into my pegs I use a rubber freeze plug from an auto parts store, the rubber expands and grips the inside of the peg, just use a wide washer at the end to hold back the rubber plug so it doesn't try to go around between the peg and the washer
It does not matter what anybody says about using a welder to make these bikes, (welding is semi-permanent) and in this type of build I like nuts & bolts. Good work, also think it is cool that you made a bike for your son as well.
Very nice I'm thinking of using a spring and running a brake cable to release the tension from the tire so I can get going and drop the engine... what do you think
a hide a bed spring is a great tensioner and you can use a lever or hand strength to let tension off till you build enough speed to get the engine to start via the wheel spinnig the peg
Nice job and good vid on areas others didn't cover! How does the springs work if you have the motor anchored to the angle iron to the frame. I don't hear you mentioning any pivoting so the springs. Sorry if I am not clear what I am asking. Its the angle iron mount- it's in a fixed position so how does the spring give.?
"it's not that bad….but I am a perfectionist" great video Dude! I found a Ryobi in the garbage this afternoon and it appears to run nice. I got to figure out how you mount that Peg again.
+brandon rh how about getting a metal shop to weld a piece onto the hollow end, then reverse thread tap it . then cut of the extra length that goes to the flywheel. then us another reverse thread nut to cinch it up extra tight . just an idea. what cc are those engines?
i made a bike with a 32cc weedeater a while back and my flywheel pin stripped out too. it had that same shaft design. i always thought it was because the socket i used was too big
I was trying to use a weed eater brand but once I got it mounted I couldent get it to star so I took that one one off and put on a steel moter but im having trouble getting the peg on because no matter how tight I get it it keeps flying off when I try starting it
I found the pull start to start easier than pushing my sons bike to get it started. I would have to see the bikes frame design the get ideas...BUT I would try using a spring if the is alot of distance to cover.
I got preditor 212 c I got the big idea which work having problem with bolting down that threw me off but going to align side says I used duck tape and bob wire as example to to tie down chain no more of problem now that I use pig 5/16 althread just bolting down got a drill just got to use when time is needed
roll start it it wants to back off of the peg / spindle. do you have any ideas on how to stop that besides the reverse thread reason being I'm really short on Tools and I don't have a tap and die set. any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated have a good day Paul Holland
I have the same FeatherLite motor and I'm fairly sure that the engine bolt holes are not 5/16. Did you just force the bolts in? Or did you use a different size bolt for the engine mounts? Thanks in advance.
Ya ever think of a trike? I use alot of different types of metals i use the most of uni strut. Home depot should carry it. So many applications for uni strut. Did ya ever decide on aluminum, or is it to weak?
Hey im wanting to make one but i want it to be where when i stop it stays running so i need to keep the clutch but how would i get a peg to go on to the clutch bell housing
I'm trying to build a weed eater bike like yours I have the same kind of design on the mount basically a lot of the same ideas which by the way nice design lol my problem has been whenever I try to start it and because of the turnbuckle I have to
on your bike, did u also use the existing holes to mount the motor? im having the hardest time trying to figure out how to mount my motor. i left the plastic on mine also. PLEASE REPLY
i cant get my peg in the centre of my fly wheel and the bolt that holds it on is right in there, so if i grind off some of the fly wheel to get to it will the motor still work correctly?
@deerhunter5225 every motor is already wired for a kill switch. All i did was splice a longer wire through the frame to where i mounted the exsisting kill switch that i took apart from the motor.
You didn't fully explain "the peg" where do you get it Also did you remove the clutch part of the motor I have 3 W E motors and I am ready to get started
if the threads are like that cut the shaft down a bit with a hacksaw but a clean level cut then use a thread cutter of the size you need and cut the threads into the shaft
I just made a friction bike out of a featherlite weed wacked motor on my 20in bmx bike and when I get it started I can only run it with the choke all the way on. Everyone I attempt to take it off choke or even run it at half choke it bogs down and eventually slows down so much that the engine stalls. I have tried moving the 7/8 socket (instead of a peg) up and down on the tire to create different pressures. If anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
mine engine is 52cc and the thread doset even stick out of the flywheel and the space around the bolt is shape like a funnel I couldnot fit a peg on it cause of the shape of the space around the flywheen :\ and I don't have a welder
you can't extend the flywheel itself...but when I built the bike for me...I left on the housing, so the threads were right there for me to screw on the peg.
You dont need to make it this way, if you have a both way transmission you can make an engine plate weld it on the bike and mount the engine on it(with the accelerator hooked up and brakes) and put the bike chain on a sprocket that fits your clutch and put the other side of the chain on the back tire
it sounds cool, yet i have to dont like the gas smell, im thinking of an electric motor engine.. do you have any tips for an electric motor engine on a bike?
Wait let me stop you there, making a electric build non kit cost a lot more money then gassers + Weight ratio takes a big toll on your pocket. Battery replacement is also a factor. Now if you hate the smell of fuel there is an easy fix for that and it's called "premix" for example I'm running 40:1 premix and the fuel cost never amount up the same premix never goes up or down in price while gas and oil steady fluctuate. If you need more advice let me know. Here's my first rig build 98% complete : ruclips.net/video/SoRIaoGqdrk/видео.html
hey i want to extend my wire on my kill switch what kind of wire can i use with the wire i already have on my kill switch to make it longer for example can i use any kind of house hold wire like from a lamp or something? help please lol!
Did you get it? You can thread the shaft yourself inside or outside. They make neat little tools for this. Had to thread many does and pipes over the years. If your project stalled due to this then maybe you can revive it.
Remove spark plugs and spin the piston down. Push in a piece of rope through the plug hole and spin piston back up. It will bind up. Then just spin it back the other way and take out the rope.
could of drilled a Hole through the peg, threaded the hole, make sure its a fat enough Hole and thread size then take a bolt cut the head off and slot it with a dremel and then cut the screw short so it acts as a set screw, make sure It sits bellow the entry point of the screw so it doesn't interfere with traction against the tire. problem solved.
hi go to i think i can fix this his is different again he uses a angle grinder he ueses the head of it plus he pulles out the guts then he takes off the laments right down to the bare steel then makes the steel fit the clutch he grinds a square on that so it fits into the weedeater clutch just watch the video hes got a few vids on making it 3 anyway would be quite strong
Instead of pulling the cord to start it, isn't it possible to just peddle and allow the back wheel to spin the spindle and the. It would start.? I really like your angle iron idea
UTOOBME on his bike he left the centrifugal clutch on. thats why he has to pull start it. you may lose some power, but this allows you to stop and the engine will keep running. twist the throttle and when the rpms are high enough the clutch engages and the bike will go. on his sons bike the engine will stall out when the rear wheel stops, but you start the engine by peddling the bike.
only video on youtube where u covered every topic and explained it perfectly while bikes were already put together
You sir have explained everything that wasn't in other videos on RUclips. I thank you so much for doing so.( you also have inspired me to do this project
genius , absolute genius , only video i saw that really touched down on all of the aspects i was unsure of . Great video!!!
And I concurrently agree with most comments .,. Most normal Human Explanation, thank You again. 👍👍
Thx. I'll try this om my motorbike. The last time my bike broke down, it was trouble .... Trouble in South Africa. Dankie/ Merci.
Best friction bike tutorial on youtube!! Thanks!!
Thats pretty cool,I converted a schwinn s500 electric scooter to chain driven gas so I know how much work goes into building something like that.I am currently building another just like it.
This video is why I'm watching all your videos
Very informative, much better than the videos I've seen

great video man!! please make more!! thanks

Great video. We hope more videos of any bmx weed eater friction drive please. Thanks
great build!
TRUE N BALANCE THE WHEEL THE RIDE QUALITY AS WELL AS DURABILITY OF YOUR RIG WILL BE GREATLT IOMPROVED. CHEERS

great tutorial! but how about clutch? does this motor spin its wheel all the time it runs or it has friction clutch inside?
"it's not that bad….but I am a perfectionist" great video Dude! I found a Ryobi in the garbage this afternoon and it appears to run nice. I got to figure out how you mount that Peg again.
thats my problem

THANK YOU!!!! NOBODY SHOWS HOW TO MOUNT A PEG TO THE FLYWHEEL/CLUTCH!!!!
good question, I backed off a thread or two on my support bracket so the motor mount had some play to it.
i made a bike with a 32cc weedeater a while back and my flywheel pin stripped out too. it had that same shaft design. i always thought it was because the socket i used was too big

Did ya ever decide on aluminum, or is it to weak?
do you think you could make a video of you guys riding them
What did you do for a clutch? If you stop does the engine just stall out?
Can you go into more detail of how you made the throttle?
Hey im wanting to make one but i want it to be where when i stop it stays running so i need to keep the clutch but how would i get a peg to go on to the clutch bell housing
I'm trying to build a weed eater bike like yours I have the same kind of design on
the mount basically a lot of the same ideas which by the way nice design lol
my problem has been whenever I try to start it and because of the turnbuckle I have to
I recently built my bike without the pull start part I have tension to make it spin but it won't start up any helpful tips?
have u got a how to build vid in detail??? nice vid btw
on your bike, did u also use the existing holes to mount the motor? im having the hardest time trying to figure out how to mount my motor. i left the plastic on mine also. PLEASE REPLY
what did you take to extend the flywheel pin?
I TRY to do it my best...But what air valve or you referring to?
I want to adapt a weed eater motor to a power wheel , any idea? Not frame it just to adapt to it
where did you get the part that turns the bike wheel?
i cant get my peg in the centre of my fly wheel and the bolt that holds it on is right in there, so if i grind off some of the fly wheel to get to it will the motor still work correctly?
could you please show us how you made the v shaped desighn?
how do you make the wheel spin and what's the point for the peg.
Can u mount 2 engines on yours for more power just add a hinge and another mount
@deerhunter5225 every motor is already wired for a kill switch. All i did was splice a longer wire through the frame to where i mounted the exsisting kill switch that i took apart from the motor.
You didn't fully explain "the peg" where do you get it Also did you remove the clutch part of the motor I have 3 W E motors and I am ready to get started
whats that piece called to the turnbuckle called in this but i cant find any results
hello i want to ask what diameter is the friction roller. See you soon
do you need transmission? if you don't need transmission how can you start the engine?
supper helpful thx
if the threads are like that cut the shaft down a bit with a hacksaw but a clean level cut then use a thread cutter of the size you need and cut the threads into the shaft
What size thread all, And what size coupler Did you get from Home Depot
How do you keep pull start on it.
I realy wanna build one but i see people have wires on it how do u get the wires on ?
Can you please list down the material bought? Thx
I used old bed rails for the angle iron
my boyfriend broke a couple beds maybe i'll build a bike out of the angle iron
Good idea!
Is it disponible in Canada?
What do you wire the kill switch to
So on your sons bike how do you start it?
the peg is what makes the tire move right I'm new at this
on your one can you make a vid of the mesherments were you drilled the holes and how long the metal bars are pl
Matrixs learn to spell MEASUREMENTS GO BACK TO SCHOOL IDIOT
u gotta do a whellie 2 fill it with gas?
How would you stop it without shutting off the motor? Could you just let off the throttle and put on the brakes on the bike?
I just made a friction bike out of a featherlite weed wacked motor on my 20in bmx bike and when I get it started I can only run it with the choke all the way on. What city and state do you live in I want you to build mine LOL
Sir no need the clucthshoe..?
3:53 alternative welding
Did it start yet?You may have it mounted where the tire is turning the flywheel the wrong way.If so you have to move the motor to the other side.
how much would you charge to make one?
Where you said to use the existing holes I did but the casing on the motor snapped. And I used your v shape design
mine engine is 52cc and the thread doset even stick out of the flywheel and the space around the bolt is shape like a funnel I couldnot fit a peg on it cause of the shape of the space around the flywheen :\ and I don't have a welder
can you make plans for this and send them to me?
in what state do you live because if you live near me I could have you make me one if you would do it for buck in a half (150).
How do you stop?
you can't extend the flywheel itself...but when I built the bike for me...I left on the housing, so the threads were right there for me to screw on the peg.

Why dont you make a clutch handle/lever for the spring tensioned one? Then you wont have to start it every time you stop.
I did that but I didn't do correctly.
it should? I had to toughest time with mounting the Damn peg...Good luck
Can u show the throttle setup
Exactly the engines have
I've been watching a few videos on this and I'm still not sure on how to run kill switch and throttle
bdeath911 long cables
hey i want to extend my wire on my kill switch what kind of wire can i use with the wire i already have on my kill switch to make it longer for example can i use any kind of house hold wire like from a lamp or something? help please lol!
okay thanks bro!
The shaft on my motor has no threads. Any ideas on how to secure the peg to I?
Did you get it? You can thread the shaft yourself inside or outside. They make neat little tools for this. Had to thread many does and pipes over the years. If your project stalled due to this then maybe you can revive it.
can anyone help me out? I'm trying to use a vacuum motor for an electric bike that I'm making but idk how to set up a "throttle" for it!
Cinabutts dimmer switch
They make a potentiometer basically a resistance based throttle control. Or take the speed control off an old treadmill
How do you take the clutch off. Without damaging it?
Remove spark plugs and spin the piston down. Push in a piece of rope through the plug hole and spin piston back up. It will bind up. Then just spin it back the other way and take out the rope.
Tig? mig would work fine.
I used the peg or my sons bike.
On whitch state disponibles
could of drilled a Hole through the peg, threaded the hole, make sure its a fat enough Hole and thread size then take a bolt cut the head off and slot it with a dremel and then cut the screw short so it acts as a set screw, make sure It sits bellow the entry point of the screw so it doesn't interfere with traction against the tire. problem solved.
Set screw! Wicked good idea!
Yes you can
"It was kinda hard to find, but Home Depot does have it." Ha! Then it wasn't hard to find.
Cool builds though, thanks.
maybe it was hard to find in the store
try puting a water jacket to ride cooler plus are a fan
hi go to i think i can fix this his is different again he uses a angle grinder he ueses the head of it plus he pulles out the guts then he takes off the laments right down to the bare steel then makes the steel fit the clutch he grinds a square on that so it fits into the weedeater clutch just watch the video hes got a few vids on making it 3 anyway would be quite strong
So when u stop it kills the motor?
the 16'" bike yes
Instead of pulling the cord to start it, isn't it possible to just peddle and allow the back wheel to spin the spindle and the. It would start.? I really like your angle iron idea

UTOOBME know
yes i actually had to start my bike with the pedal your right
how long does a full tank of gas last on average with a weed wacker bike?
Last figures I had went from 90 to about 140 miles to a gallon
