I haven't heard this song for awhile but hearing it now makes me think about the teenager I was in the 70's....the best decade for music, cars and clothes.
That double neck guitar has both a 6-string and a 12-string guitar so the player can easily switch between the two. Most notably used by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Don Felder of the Eagles, and Alex Lifeson of Rush, among others.
Nice one!! As a kid, Scottish band Pilot were pretty popular here in Oz, and had two really big hits here in the mid 70s - this one (Magic) and January - both still some of my favourite 70s songs.
A little while ago I was listening to Loggins & Messina - Your Mama Don't Dance and as soon as it started I thought about how much Shawn and Mel would love it!! I guess I must be your fan.😉💞
I grew up with such a plethora of amazing music and talented musicians. Really only appreciated how much so in the past couple of decades and the last couple years especially.
As others have said, a band from Scotland. I'm from England, we loved these guys, they did really well in the UK. There has been a high number of good pop, rock bands and solo artists from Scotland.
The 70's was a magical decade for music , we got everything country , rock , disco , Motown , punk & the earliest Rap songs Eagles & Led Zeppelin , Alex Lifeson of Rush guitarists used double neck guitar
david paton the lead singer, has played with the alan parsons project, was the bass player for elton john, and has played guitar with rick wakemen-very talented man
I loved this song so much as a kid couldnt wait till it came on radio and just love the sound and music . This music makes you feel so good , so happy , this was the 70s thats why we grew up happy and carefree, being an innocent girl looking at love as magic
Excellent choice and Reaction.. This song was huge for a short period of time and the band Pilot, was extremely talented, to the extent they were hired by Alan Parsons, to form and become the Alan Parsons Project..
His voice is so amazing! I really love this song and have it on my playlist. Another group that has a similar style is called Sweet. They are probably most known for a kind of funny song called "Ballroom Blitz" which has a killer drum solo. But the song I think is really their best and I like the most is called "Love Is Like Oxygen". The harmonies are really beautiful. I think you might really enjoy it. It's mellow and rocking all at the same time :)
When Released This Absolute Classic Was A HUGE Hit..It Was Used On Many T.V. Commercials & Movies Over The Years (Including Quentin Tarantino's Cult Classic Movie "Death Proof"),, SMITH "BABY,, IT'S YOU"
Just one more of a thousand reasons the 70's music was so awesome! I think this song / melody is used for a medicine ad on tv. A similar band is "Sweet", they have some incredible songs as well .
@@eviekelpie1 and what sound would you describe "Magic","Just A Smile","January" ? They all definitely had the trademark glam sound, even if their albums were more adventurous and less pop/glam filled. They also had a slight glam image to boot as well,as it helped sell singles. I asked David Paton a few years back would he describe those early singles as glam influenced,he said "Yes". The same can be said of 10CC,Elton John,Rod Stewart & The Faces,Kiss, the Runaways,Alice Cooper and many more, all these acts got their first big chart successes whilst dabbling on the glam fringe. Although Pilot were not strict glam rock artists like The Glitter Band,Sweet,Slade,GG,Marc Bolan & T.Rex, Bowie,Mud,Suzi Quatro,Mott The Hoople,Wizzard etc...those singles I mentioned and a few lesser known ones they released were all proto typical glam influenced.
Remember when I was a kid this song came out.I loved it.I wasn't in to a lot of 70s rock/pop rock.more lnto soul/70s dance music.Still to this day I enjoy listening to this song. A lot of nice memories ✌️♥️
David Paton, he played the bass on all Alan Parsons Project songs between 1976 and 1984, later in Camel, Keats, bass player for Elton John (on Nikita), and worked later as guitarist with Rick Wakeman (YES), such a great and nevertheless so underrated musician.
70's were awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Helen Reddy 'Angie Baby' - ----'Pina Colada' song Rupert Holmes . So many more, but these tell a story. OH, and Thunder Island!
I was 9 years old when this came out. My mom would drop me and my older sisters off at the public swimming pool There was always older teenagers who would bring portable radios, and this song would always come on. Everybody loved this song. Good memories.
Such a fun peppy song!! I was about 12 when it came out. My parents got me a pony and I would sing to him when pulling back on the reins, “Whoa whoa whoa” it’s magic when he would stop for me. Fun fun memories!!
One of my favorite one hit wonders. It came out my sophomore year in high school. Their song "January" only hit #87 in the US, so basically it was an obscure song, hence the one hit wonder with "Magic". Not only that, "January" was a pretty bad song.
You should listen to there other big hit( January ) and here are another few Scottish Groups who hit it big around the world Middle of the road ( Sacramento/Soley Soley ) Gallagher &Lyle( Heart on my sleeve /I wanna stay with you ) Jim Diamond ( Hi Ho Silver / I should have known better )Runrig ( Rhythm of my heart /Going Home /Loch Lomond ,with the original lead singer ( Donnie Munro )
That's why they called the 70s, MAGIC!
Nice one!! As a kid, Scottish band Pilot were pretty popular here in Oz, and had two really big hits here in the mid 70s - this one (Magic) and January - both still some of my favourite 70s songs.
They were both number one's if I recall.
I grew up in NZ in 1970's, January was always on the radio in Auckland (Radio Hauraki, 1ZB)

Great Songs...Lead Singer Dave Paton and Band Member Billy Lyall were in the original version of the Bay City Rollers before they became famous

I was in 6th grade and not a care in the world. Love this song.
Produced by Alan Parsons, which is why it sounds so good.

One of my favourite songs. Takes me back to putting the speaker in my bedroom window listening to the radio while laying out in the sun.
This made remember of Love is like oxygen by SWEET really is a great song, as well.
I grew up with such a plethora of amazing music and talented musicians. Really only appreciated how much so in the past couple of decades and the last couple years especially.
Never thought I'd say, good ole days. Thought it would just get better and better. Boy was I spoilt.
As others have said, a band from Scotland. I'm from England, we loved these guys, they did really well in the UK. There has been a high number of good pop, rock bands and solo artists from Scotland.
A Song & Story You Won't Soon Forget,,

January was an even bigger hit for the boys.
No. 1 In the UK - not so good in the states.
Oh oh oh Ozempic!
Yall have seen Rik Emmett of triumph play the the " double neck", guitar. Also Don Felder played one on the Eagles Hotel California.
The lead singer was with the band the BAY CITY ROLLERS who were huge in the 70's with Saturday Night.
That was sweet calling your subscribers your guardian angels
One of those special songs from my early teens!!!
A Must Hear Classic,, The Stampeders
"Sweet City Woman"
david paton the lead singer, has played with the alan parsons project, was the bass player for elton john, and has played guitar with rick wakemen-very talented man
And they were both original Bay City rollers, before the popular lineup
I used to wait up all night long to hear this on the am radio channel when I was a kid. Love your reactions!!
I loved this song so much as a kid couldnt wait till it came on radio and just love the sound and music . This music makes you feel so good , so happy , this was the 70s thats why we grew up happy and carefree, being an innocent girl looking at love as magic

Love love love this song. It makes me so happy. Memories from long ago. Before I had any problems or heartaches.
I was a young teen when theses guys were about and used to tune into Radio Luxembourg in bed at night hoping to hear 'Just a smile' , loved it
Remember this time coming out in the seventies.. This is one of those songs that grows more favorable the more one listens to it.
They also had another hit January which is every bit as good I remember my sister having a crush on the lead singer 😊😊😊
This is what real talent sounds like. No tweaking by digital boards.
one of my faves...this song is addictive!!
I like how the rest of the band is saying "la la la la la" with the harmony part..around 03:14 they start doing it here.
The top guitar neck is a 12 string & the bottom is a 6 string
They have so many good songs like Canada, Just A Smile, Penny In My Pocket, January, Over The Moon, etc.
Always loved this song!
The singing was in a natural high pitch before puberty. I am glad they have that recorded.
When Released This Absolute Classic Was A HUGE Hit..It Was Used On Many T.V. Commercials & Movies Over The Years (Including Quentin Tarantino's Cult Classic Movie "Death Proof"),,
SMITH "BABY,, IT'S YOU"
Fun fact: The drummer, Stuart Tosh, went on to play in 10cc too. I love him in Dreadlock Holiday
@Kellie Curtis-Holmes, and weren't two of them in the early Bay City Rollers before they switched to Pilot?
Boring fact: Singer and bassist David Paton performed on Live Aid in 1985 as a member of Elton John’s backing band.

Just one more of a thousand reasons the 70's music was so awesome! I think this song / melody is used for a medicine ad on tv. A similar band is "Sweet", they have some incredible songs as well .
The Sweet were a glam rock band. Pilot more if a pop band
One of the best glam songs to come out in 1974 - a year full of great glam rock songs.
I wouldn't classify Pilot as glam rock 😂
