You guys should react to "How Long" by Ace, which charted about 3 months later in Summer of '75.
Pilot was pretty-much a one hit wonder with this song...and no coincidence, it was engineered by Alan Parsons! Several guys in this band went on to become regulars in the Alan Parsons Project for the next decade. Shortly after this, Parsons was teamed with Al Stewart for the "Year of the Cat" album. Parsons did two consecutive albums with Stewart , the Cat album and "Time Passages".
IMO January was also a hit. so one hit wonder status is debatable.
@@peterwalsh2470 agreed, love January!
Right almost on everything, Al Stewart did 3 albums in fact, that were produced by Parsons, the first of them was "Modern Times" in 1975.
@@gershman23 DANG!!! I've never even heard of that!! Thanks...I'm diving in deep again! Lol
Most of Pilot went on to be part of The Alan Parsons Project
Every fan of my Scottish football club, Celtic, knows this song, although it was a hit before many of their parents were born. The chorus lends itself to lyrics like, "Oh oh oh it's magic, you know. Gonna be [insert number here] in a row".
I refuse to let Ozempic ruin the song for me. I still love it and I don't care.
And Bobby Caldwell, what you won’t do for love.
You guys could keep this one hit wonder marathon going for MONTHS. There are so many - just from the 70s alone, there are dozens of great hits from artists that pretty much disappeared after their big song.
❤❤great point!
this takes me back to the 70's. LOVE this!!
For anyone that might be wondering, please consider this a proactive post. 😀 Ty, "the third guy" or "the other guy" (who normally sits on the far right of the screen when all three hosts are in a video), got a job promotion and relocated out of state. However, he still appears in videos when he returns to the channel "HQ" for visits/holidays/work, etc. He announced recently in a newer video that he is hopeful that his work situation may allow him to participate more on the channel again in the future. Hope this post answers that question ahead of time.
That will be awesome to have Ty back, he is really missed. ❤
Ty, plañ it out so you can Skype in when doing a reaction video, brotha! We miss you bro!
@@tracycampbell3060Thanks for the reply, Tracy. I agree about Ty but I also think Nick and Ryan have really come into their own over these last few months. They haven't really missed a beat and Ty fit right back in seamlessly for a couple of recent videos. Like you, I look forward to Ty's participation but know the channel is in fine hands with Nick and Ryan at the helm.
@@deanhaight7258Thanks for the reply, Dean. The guys talked about trying to use technology to remotely include Ty but between the difficulties with logistics and scheduling, they decided to continue on in this format. I was also hoping they might try to "zoom" in Ty, but the explanations made sense. Plus, Nick and Ryan are doing a very fine job in Ty's absence too. Thanks again for the reply.
@@user-lq4qe7pj9s I agree they are doing great but i just said Ty is missed. Not meant in any way as a put down to Nick and Ryan
this song is Saturday morning as a kid. it's going to the fun fair. it's fun times with your friends. it's everything wonderful about being young and youthful experience.
Jigsaw ,, Sky high,, another one hit blast
I was going to recommend that one too
Absolutely, epic record.
@@mattmale7183 nearly all the one hit wonders were better or as good as any groups music of the day. Great time to be alive. I enjoyed my time that's for sure
Bobby Caldwell What You Won't Do For Love. Ryan you will love this one!
Thanks for the post, Carolyn. I'm "contractually obligated" to mention that the song was suggested several times before the marathon, on the community message board prior to the marathon, and in the comment sections throughout the marathon so far. The song has even received over 100 "likes" in 2 different messages that I've posted since the marathon started. Hopefully, the continual support from viewers for this great song may make it to "The 502" for a video in the future. 😏
@@user-lq4qe7pj9s They're going to want to watch the "video" for Bobby.
@@HeavenlyHouse Thanks for the reply, Heavenly. I know a number of folks have remarked that they'd like the song's video to be a part of any reaction that the guys might do for the tune. To me, there's nothing better than viewing the performance of "What You Won't Do For Love" that Bobby Caldwell and the saxophonist Dave Koz did at the BET Awards. It truly shows how great music can bring together people from all backgrounds and that is a super power that music will hopefully never lose. 😁
A blast from my past! Great song
David Paton is the lead singer here.. After the group Pilot broke up Paton went on to perform for Alan Parsons on most of his albums. Give a listen to "Let's Talk About Me" from the Alan Parsons album "Vulture Culture"
Man, this brings me right back to junior high. This song was everywhere. Has a real 70s am radio vibe. Thanks for the memories.
It should be noted David Paton (Bassist and Lead singer ) and Ian Bairnson (lead guitar) were integral members of the Alan Parsons Project for almost a decade after Pilot broke up. Paton's thumping bass lines and Bairson's nimble guitar underly almost all of the Parson's Project biggest hits including "Eye in the Sky" which I believe was reacted to here a few years back.
never knew that!
Great tune. It peaked on the AM Pop charts in late Spring of '75.
Reminds me of playing in the back yard, listening to the radio on a summer day.
Dave Paton and Billy Lyall were both early members of the Bay City Rollers.
I'm 60,my son is 28 and he loves this song!
Produced by Alan Parsons after engineering the Dark Side of the Moon record and before starting his own band with the Project. David Paton and Ian Bairnson would work with Alan a lot over the years.
Just a happy fun pop song !
Another band produced by Alan Parsons...He used members ftom Ambrosia and Pilot on his Tales of Mystery and Imagination album..songs inspired by the poetry of Edgar Alan Poe
Love this song! I bought this song on 45rpm record when it came out in the 70's ...when I was a kid.
There's some current commercial that plays this song constantly. Have no idea, but its on all the time
It’s a great song but that stupid fking Ozempic commercial has now ruined it for me, I’m glad I got to know and love this song decades earlier!
That's exactly what I was going to say
That annoys the heck out of me. So many songs ruined that way.
I wholeheartedly agree, They’ve done that with many great tunes, over the last few years. An, example before this was Fleetwood Mac’s, “Everywhere” in that Chevy commercial, a couple of years ago. Pisses me off!
Oh, oh, oh ozempic!!!!!!😂😂😂😂geezers need this! Talk to your doctor!😂😂😂
That singer looks about 14. They actually remind me of Hanson, lol. The 70's as a whole is my favorite decade of music with so much variety. It's so interesting and passionate and features super talented people.
OK, here we go. I’ve been watching reaction videos for about 4 years now’ and you guys are one of my favorite channels to watch! This is only the second comment I’ve ever made. I don’t know how I missed it, but I just saw that you reacted to “Love Will Find A Way” by Pablo Cruise a few months ago. I see you thought it was 🔥🔥🔥 which it is!!! This is not a criticism, but you picked the wrong song. “ What You Gonna Do” by Pablo Cruise will be one of your greatest reactions to date. I believe your best reaction is “ Year Of The Cat” by Al Stewart. It’s great to see you young guys discover great music from the 70’s and 80’s! I see you guys are really into Soft Rock, which is what it used to be called. I believe it is referred to as Yacht Rock now! What a great genre of music. I believe that you guys should wait for Ty to come into town to react to it, because it is going to be EPIC!!! Ryan will pause and hit the 🔥 button within the first 10 seconds, and it only gets better as the song goes on. I can still see all of your faces in amazement as each instrument came in one by one in the solo of “ Year Of The Cat”. “What You Gonna Do” will be just as good. The good thing is, I’ve only seen one reaction to it, and that was 3 years ago. If I’m wrong, I’ll never comment again. But………… if I’m right, I’ll send you a lot more great songs to react to. There are so many to choose from!!!
This song was popular when I was about 10 years old. I was just remembering dancing around my room like a maniac to it. Ahh!! Get it out of my head! 😂
I’m Scottish and I only found out this band is Scottish like 2 years ago, blew my mind 🤣
Great 70s tune that sadly today is an Ozempic commercial. Glad you guys brought this back for us to enjoy once again! Thanks!
I almost can predict that a song is gonna be remembered for a secondary reference, like a movie, rather than from its actual era. Double edged sword because like Bohemian Rhapsody was revived through Wayne's World, it ends up getting grafted to the movie as a reference.
I always thought this was ELO!😂
Oh gosh yeah this song was played on the radio back then so much😅
This song was covered by Selena Gomez
Also used in commercials 😊
Yet another 70's band I grew up listening to
Pilot were a Scottish rock group formed in 1973. They are best known for their songs "January", "Magic", "Just A Smile" & "Call Me Round".
In the same vein as this check out David Dundas "Jeans On" and the Raspberries "Go All The Way" for the exact same vibe, along with so many other sunny Saturday songs of the 70's. All I need to go with these tunes is my old roll of yellow happy face stickers, a bowl of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons, followed by a glass bottle of Coke while sitting in the grass with friends.
Great 70's pop hit. There were lot's of them back then. Unless y'all have an aversion to blues rock & slide guitar, you owe it to yourselves to check out the British blues-rock band Foghat. Rod Price was one of the best slide players of the genre, and Lonesome Dave's vocals are so inspired. I searched your channel and don't show you've ever done a reaction video for them, while other artists have been reviewed multiple times. For an all out "crank it up in the car" rocker, I recommend the studio version of the song "Drivin' Wheel". To show their versatility, and for some killer vocals, check out the studio version of the ballad "I'll Be Standing By". Both are off of the 1976 album "Night Shift". I've recommended them numerous times in the past, and would really love to see your reactions. I think both of you, (or all 3 of you) would love this band and these songs. I predict you would add them both to your respective playlists. Keep rockin' and keep having fun.
"fairy dust" "cinnamony sugary" back in the day they called it "bubblegum pop" and the hooks "ear candy"
Little Green Bag was the hit I remember from the George Baker Selection in 1970. Another OHW.
Such a great pop song. Very uplifting as well
Nazareth is also from Scotland and had one hit with Love Hurts. They have several great songs that we listened to off of the albums, and those are also very much worth a listen regardless of hit status.
It's a light hearted song to me. Have heard in movies and in shows I think too.
Love this song, great 1 hit wonder. Been on my phone for a while.
This was so big when i was 8.❤
Another great one hit wonder is from a band, called Detroit with rock ‘n’ roll music with a phenomenal guitar in it
No 1 in Australia with January plus magic smaller hit just a smile what a one hit wonder in one country is much bigger band in home country like SCOTLAND AND ENGLAND
Groovy!
Hey guys their track called "January " was a big hit in Australia back in the 70's before this one.
While we are thinking of the word Pilot - you guys have to listen to a song called "Pilot" by the Ian Thomas Band of Canada. You will be THE very first music reaction channel to listen to the Ian Thomas Band out of all the ones out there! Be the first guys, be the first! Start an Ian Thomas trend on the music channels. Their music sound is very similar to the band America so you will love it! After "Pilot" be sure to listen to "Painted Ladies" and then "Hold On". They have some great bass lines.

For what it's worth, there's also a "one hit wonder" from an artist named Charlie Dore called "Pilot of the Airwaves." The link above is to that song. ✈️👩✈️👨✈️📻
@@user-lq4qe7pj9s
Back in the day the radio was our connection to the world, to music - it was a part of every aspect of our life - you did feel like you knew the DJs and the announcers. The Charlie Dore song perfectly encapsulates that feeling.
@@prairieglowThanks for the post and the reply, Prarie. I couldn't agree more. As someone that was fortunate to work in radio for over a decade and in different forms of communication for around 20 years, I've been so disappointed to see the homogenization of radio to just a few major corporations, limited computer generated playlists, and remote announcers that are broadcasting for hundreds (or thousands) of channels at the same time. That's why the Charlie Dore song is such a time capsule, beyond being a good song. Thanks again for the post and the reply.
Their song "Magic" is featured in a deleted scene in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Try out Steel Breeze - You Don't Want Me Anymore. Great one hit wonder. Also Midnight Blue by Louise Tucker. A spacy heartfelt tune.
Oh oh... ohh ...Ozempic. !
😂
I heard this song on the VH1 Classic channel in the Top 100 hits section. The solo mono should be a little longer, but without a doubt this is one hit, one miracle.
Yes! Loved it guys😍. Keep them coming!! 😊👍🏻
For those that may not be aware, it appears the guys have been using the American mainstream chart (Billboard Hot 100, Top 40, etc) in determining whether a song was a "one hit wonder" or not. In this case, "Magic" reached #5 on the American Hot 100 (and reached just outside the top #10 in the UK). While "January" was a #1 hit in the UK as others have mentioned, it seemingly barely snuck inside the top 90 of the American Hot 100. So in America, the song wouldn't likely have been considered a hit and not along the lines of the popularity for "Magic" in America. I suppose we can also add geographical polls to our seemingly lengthening list of different views on what constitutes a "one hit wonder" for the purpose of this marathon. Nonetheless, the music and videos have been great! 😀
Scottish, I'm down OH YA I luv this one!
Another one hit wonder to consider either now or in the future is Come and Get Your Love by Redbone
In uk this song was their first hit, their follow up song JANUARY went to number one, i was 12/13 yrs old and bought both single records…..i still have them
I said that too ✊
👍🏴
Lalalala...it had sooo much radio play at the time and we all knew fairly quickly they were a one hit wonder. But still fun.
This feels like an authentic 4:20 reaction. Respect.😎🌲🌲🌲
Well done, Mike D. The silence from the guys at the end of the song really sold your comment, especially when Nick's first word is the drawn out "Yeah...." like he just found his bag of Funyuns underneath the table and even more good times were ahead. 😂
Oh oh oh ozempic
How have they not seen or heard that commercial
It's very catchy. you might catch yourself singing it in your car later.
I always felt that the 'perfect' (overusing said term, here) adjunct song, to this, was:
Jigsaw's "Sky High"
👍👍 💚💙 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Both were huge hits at just about the same time.
ruclips.net/video/QjtD8A-MWBc/видео.htmlsi=1PZWndDn-M--86uf
Thanks for the post, Professor. For years of hearing "Sky High" on the radio, I nearly convinced myself that Paul McCartney sang the chorus because there seemed to be such a vocal similiarity (especially with music from Wings) during that time. The link above is to Jigsaw, clearly without Paul McCartney, performing the song. 😀
@@user-lq4qe7pj9s Easy to understand how one might have. 🤪😋
👍👍
Yes. I was aware that he had not (😂😂). Glad you've been able to confirm it for yourself!
😁
-Ahh! The joys of '70s A.M. radio! 😁🤍
@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra Thanks for the reply, Professor. Given McCartney's work with Badfinger on Apple Records and other artists, I wouldn't have been shocked to learn "Macca" was connected with Jigsaw, Pilot, and every other up and coming UK band during that time frame. 😂
@@user-lq4qe7pj9s 😂😂True!
While asking Alexa to find this song for me, she instead played January by Pilot. Have to say that I enjoyed that one.
Early on hearing this song, I thought he was singing "it's not saaawww, it's magic, you nahhh. Never believe it's not sawwww!" I was 7 or 8. I could never figure out what the chorus had to do with the verses, which I could more or less make out.
And then as I hit my late teens, I realized I just don't listen well to song vocals.
Great song...been years hearing this!!
Can’t believe he said Eden-berg
They weren’t a 1 hit wonder though - They also had a big hit with January !.. your welcome 🙏
👍🏴
If you get the time you guys need to listen to my 3 favorite one-hit wonders (here in the U.S. according to Billboard Magazine HOT 100 chart) from the first half of the 1980’s): “Sausalito Summernight” from the Dutch band Diesel from one of most under appreciated albums of all-time, “Watts In a Tank”. Diesel would get into the Top 30 with the song for several weeks in the fall of 1981 and would be nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artists although they had broken up and recorded the album in 1980. For “Sausalito Summernight” check out Danno Five-O’s video for it where he takes a live performance of the tune from The Netherlands, “TopPop” in 1980 and increases it to 5:07 to include much of the album’s opening rift. From 1983, check out the #36, from England’s The JoBoxers’ “Just Got Lucky” (the original music vid. from the band here on RUclips is a must). “Just Got Lucky” has to be one of the best take offs of 1960’s R&B to come out England. Finally from 1984, also getting into the Top 30 is the Liverpool, England (yes, same place as The Beatles) is Icicle Works with “Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)” with the original vid on RUclips presented by The Arkive.
This is a great one hit wonder for sure guys.
sky high by jigsaw, one hit wonder but incredible lead singer des dyer
Great song
It’s the theme song form the movie
The man from Hong Kong
Another suggestion: Autograph - Turn Up The Radio
here for the Ozempic discussion
You've got my nomination for comment of the video, right out of the gate. Well done. Well done, indeed. 😂
Thanks for the reminder, it's time for my jab...😂

Syrupy for sure!
Nick Gilder - Hot Child In The City
If this song is 'Cinnamon Toast', I cant wait to hear Denty Moore Beef Stew...
Waka Waka
Pilot were not really a OHT band their follow up single January reached the #1 spot. You must listen to You by Ten Sharp.
La la la la la - heard that on my a.m. clock radio, but didn’t knowtice it was actually sung ‘til watching this video with you guys just now. Now I can’t *not* hear them :-)
I know music artists allow their songs to be licensed for various purposes because they make a lot of money from it. Even so, having written songs myself, I don't think I'd want my songs associated with movies and commercials to push products and such. I'd want someone to hear my music for the first time on its own merits on the radio or record (now download) the way all people of certain generations first heard the music they love. When I think of the songs I really love nothing comes to mind but the music and where I was at that point in my life when I heard it, not an actor, movie, video game, or product. I think that counts for something.
I actually always liked the verse more than the chorus on this one.. I guess I haven't heard it as much so it's not 'worn out' on me.
Still waiting on ACE and Benny Mardones plus Henry Lee Summer. Danny Spanos of Hot Cherie is fire.
I had my DNA tested and was surprised to learn I am 32% Scottish. Nick, we could be related 😊
I think I would have had a totally different reaction to this song if I had never seen the Ozempic commercial. I wanted to like it but couldn’t get past the stupid commercial.
How about Twilight Zone by Golden Earring? Gotta watch the video with it though. Classic and so memorable
In case anyone was wondering, Nick mentioned that his last name (Coleman) may be of Scottish origin. According to multiple online sources (Ancestry and 23andMe), it appears Coleman may have most commonly developed in Ireland and England, brought to what would become Great Britain from Norway. Given the geographic proximity of Scotland to Ireland and England, it is certainly possible that a person with the last name of Coleman could have Scottish descent. There were other derivatives of the name that were Americanized from individuals with Jewish ancestry, from Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and other regions around Eastern Europe as well.
For Ryan, Williams is reported by Ancestry to largely be English and Welsh in development with Dutch associations. However, other websites point to Germany ("Wilhelm") as an originator for Williams with the name in German meaning "helmet of resolve," which is pretty darn cool. 🪖 😂
If I remember correctly, Ty's last name is Hicks. According to Ancestry, that name appears to have also developed in England and it had been popular in certain parts of Wales as well. According to Ancestry, "Hicks" can also be an off-shoot on the German surname "Hick."
While none of this information truly comes close to solving the ethnic background of the guys, I wanted to share what I found in case anyone else may find it intriguing. Now, let's keep this marathon train rolling towards the station! 😀
You mentioned Happy Gilmore; have you guys thought about doing reactions to movies? I’ll suggest Caddyshack with Bill Murray and Chevy Chase.
ruclips.net/video/dLYHf6QzqvQ/видео.htmlsi=DVSK0w5d3ki4mMJ8
Thanks for the post, Bruce. There are just too many classic lines from the original "Caddyshack." I don't particularly like golf, but it is a top 5 to 10 all-time comedy film.
As for "Happy Gilmore," Nick must be estatic about the news regarding the upcoming sequel. The link above is a clip of the interview that Adam Sandler did with sportscaster Dan Patrick not long ago about the upcoming film. Thanks again for the post. 🏌♂️🏌♀️⛳️
Oh oh oh Ozempic…..usa version
Not USA version, BIG PHARMA version. Meh
Oh, come on.
Oh my lord. 1978
Guys ya need to check out Nazareth. Their song, messing with a son of a bitch, it is fire!
Hair of the Dog
The genre is often called "Bubblegum Pop" bands like Sweet and the Archie's ect....
_only seen 1 post so far but in the event that there’s more this isn’t the first nor will it be the last time that someone mispronounces edinburg and it’s not that diff from ppl who say lewisville for louisville_ 🤷♂️
Thanks for the post, Gabriel. I agree whole-heartedly, even though I was the one that posted the video about pronouncing Edinburgh. Like you, my hope was to hopefully "get out in front" of the folks that might be less kind. As I wrote in a previous post about a similar issue, Nick and Ryan are not even obligated to try and pronounce places or names. However, they give it a shot and that shows courage. Please know that my comment was not meant to be intentionally negative but to try to "head off" some "at the pass" before it became more of "a thing," as the kids may still say? 😂 Anyways, thanks for your support of the guys and the channel. Keep up the great work!
@@user-lq4qe7pj9s No worries; your good intentions were clear. Thankfully, no one has posted any ref to the mispronunciation (as ‘The Petty Posse’ often do about every little freakin’ thing). ✌🏽

Looks like Ryan kept on the "disco shades" for this one, so maybe they're now "1970s shades"? 😎
Interestingly, this song appears to have been sampled almost 10 times. While the most well known recent artist to sample the song was Flo Rida in 2009, it seems as if Pilot sampled the song well before that instance. Pilot released a song after "Magic" called "You're Devotion," which apparently samples their previous hit. The first link above is to the sampled song.
As well known as the song has become on the radio and in ads, it has been covered almost 10 times as well. The most well known artist or group to cover the song so far looks like Selena Gomez from her TV show "The Wizards of Waverly Place." The second link above is to that cover.
Given the catchy hook and chorus, I think I may know how the guys may react to this tune. However, it's still worthwhile to see if that's the case and what shenanigans they get up to next. 😂 Let's keep this marathon train on the tracks, people! 😀
Yo Ho Ho It’s The Views
Hey I have a white double neck
They look like Aliens from space. Kind of a twisted face look, like they're not comfortable in their human skin.
You mean "The Reptilians" had a one hit wonder? Wow. What's next? Ancient aliens influenced Steve Martin to have a "one hit wonder" with "King Tut" back in the 1970s too? 😂
