Cindy aka Rae Dawn Chong was so awesome. Her comedic relief is to die for. She is basically talking for us as the audience. I mean all the ridiculous event that she has to witnes like Arnonld ripping out the car seat, to ARnold swinging like tarzan in a shopping mall! To killing a man with stake through the chest. Filpping the phone booth. Cindy's comments let us know, "this is bannas" and not to take this movie too seriously.

Location Location Fact: The shopping mall (Sherman Oaks Galleria) used is the same one that was used in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Since both films wrapped, the mall has been remodeled.

The fact that Arnie took his martial arts training so seriously that he achieved the equivalent of a second-degree black belt doesn't surprise me at all.
For a person who was Mr. Universe and went on to be an accomplished actor who couldn't understand his English lines in his first starring role, and then on to become the Governor of California, and on to be a champion for the mentally challenged, why, you could tell me that he designed a machine to cure cancer, end world hunger and reverse the aging process and I wouldn't doubt it one bit.
It takes a superior internal drive, commitment to the betterment of one's self and a humble grasp of identity to do all the things that he has achieved in his life.

Regarding the big guns and recoil, an M60 is usually fired from a helicopter on a mount, or on the ground on a tripod, there is zero chance you could shoot one from the hip and hope to hit anything with any degree of accuracy. Arnie and Sly have both mentioned in more recent interviews about the ridiculousness of the gun physics in their movies, as they both went higher and higher in an attempt to trump each other.

When I was in in boot camp in 1987 the ability to shoot an M60 from the hip was laughably discussed by the sergeant instructors for US Weapons.
I also remember sometime around that day being called into the senior drill sergeant's refreshingly cool air-conditioned office, where he was giving myself and a few other nobody privates the low-down on the next morning's detail we were assigned to do.
"Invasion USA" was playing on his office television. It was at the end of the movie when Chuck Norris brings out his light anti-tank weapon and shoots it from the hip and blows the villain, Klaus Kinski, somewhere into next week.
I distinctly remember my sergeant's redneck-accented, post-Vietnam voice as we all watched that movie's segment in totality, "Was that the correct deployment of an M72 LAW, privates?"

If you want some great action comedy with Arnie, I highly recommend The Last Action Hero. That movie is criminally underrated and was kind of misunderstood by critics at the time.
Kindergarten Cop is also fun to watch, highly recommend that one. And True Lies, that one is amazing.
For more comedy, there are Twins, Jingle all the Way and even Junior, though that one makes me uncomfortable.
And for other Arnold movies there is Barbar Conan and the sequel...
There are so many Arnolds movies, I cannot list them all.

If you noticed, those weapons John got from the Surplus Store were not part of the stores public display. They were kept in a secret room. Makes no sense for a store like that to have that many weapons, especially an M202 rocket launcher, or that John would know that the store even had weapons on site in a locked room. The machine-gun John was using doesn't have an overwhelming amount of a recoil, but it is heavier than a normal rifle. Probably not an issue for someone with Arnold's build, but the weapon itself isn't very accurate fired with one hand. In most scenes he is firing from the hip, and the accuracy would be terrible. A good 80's action movie.

29:20 It's complicated. AKs don't really have a ton of recoil, but more than other guns like AR-15s, but even light recoiling guns can be hard to control on full auto. One shot is just one little push, but a bunch in rapid succession will usually cause the muzzle to rise. To answer your question, they're kind of real guns, but modified to fire blanks, that have a gun powder charge but no bullet, and blanks have much less recoil than normal cartridges firing bullets cuz physics. It's firing blanks that made it so easy to control. That's a "real AK" modified and firing blanks that he's shooting in that scene.

It done properly you can get hit by a car and walk it off like it was nothing. I actually did it.
Many, many moons ago in my high school days my school had Open Lunch which meant students, 10th - 12th grades, could go off campus and get lunch at places like McDonalds or wherever. One day I was with my friends and we were actually talking about this exact kind of stunt and how it's performed with stunt safety in mind. The next day I came out of the school into the parking lot to meet my friends to go to lunch. Well, my friend drove his Volkswagon Bug up the straightaway of the parking lot right towards me. I stopped in the straightaway to wait for him but he didn't stop. He hit me dead on and I performed the stunt exactly like we talked about the day before.
My hands hit the hood (trunk lid) of his car and his front bumper pushed my legs out and back and I rolled up over the hood, up and over the windshield, on top of the car and I rolled off to the passenger side. I distinctly heard people off to the side shout, "HOLY SHIT! He just hit him with the car!' I then landed on my feet, opened the passenger door, got in, closed the door and we left for lunch.
My friend thought I would move at the last second and he'd brake but it didn't work out that way when I didn't move. We had a laugh about it and went about our day.

David Patrick Kelly is one of my favorite actors.
He's an awesome protaginist, and a completely superhuman villain in the sense that he makes your flesh crawl every time he speaks a creepy line.
I thoroughly recommend that you watch every movie he has ever made, and at a minimum, see "The Warriors," one of the greatest film adaptations of all time, where, in my opinion, the movie surpasses the book.
Perhaps you could react to that classic if you have yet to see it.
When Rae Dawn Chong says, "From here, it looks like a nightmare," it was a direct, tongue-in-cheek reference to his recent role in Dreamscape in 1984.
It was a movie where he would jump into a victim's dream to make it a nightmare.
(Not a bad one to react to either, if I haven't spoiled it for you.)
In Dreamscape, Dennis Quaid does far better acting than in most of his other films, and David Patrick Kelly reminds you just how legendary his performances can be.
I had truly forgotten how awesome Commando was and just how many great actors showed up for shooting, and just how many great lines are contained within it.
