🤩Really glad to be watching PART 2 after having recently watched the very emotional PART 1🥺I feel invested in Rambo and found myself wanting to know more about where his journey went after watching Part 1 so needless to say I went into this feeling both anxious and excited to see PART 2. Julia Nickson plays the female sidekick, she is quite talented and one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. As for the film itself, I enjoyed this sequel, it really gives the audience a bit more perspective on how Rambo views things and operates mentally. The best installment in Rambo 4 (2008). A very gruesome film but again it's all about perspective. I liked your reaction Laurenn and hope you finish the series.

1985 was the tenth anniversary of the last Americans out of Saigon, the official end of the Vietnam War. There were a lot of Vietnam War-related retrospectives that year, and really throughout the 1980s.
It might be mindboggling to you to know that there was a Rambo action figure toy line inspired by this movie as well as a cartoon series.

Hey Lauren, my town had 200 seating theater. For Rambo a thousand people showed up everyday for two weeks. It was a melee to say the least. ---- People climbed over babies and old ladies to get in to see the movie. ----- The movie sold out like a Cabbage Patch doll at Christmas. It finally cooled down after a month of shows.

    FUN FACTS:
    1) The co-writer of this movie is none other than James Cameron himself.
    2) The woman is INDIGENOUS AGENT Ko Bao. Remember Rambo repeated her name back to Murdoch during the briefing.
    3) The Pirate boat captain was played by the same actor who played the Chinese General in Lethal Weapon 4.
    4) Clues into Murdoch being fake are there. Rambo picked up on the one of him being with the Marines in Kon Tum in 66 but Rambo knew the Marines were in Kud Sank instead. Next Murdoch says to Troutman, "It wasn't my war. I'm just here to clean up the mess." That should also have been a red flag as he just claimed he was NOT in Vietnam like he said he was at the beginning of the briefing.
    5) The actor playing the Russian Colonel is probably more famous for playing Victor Maitland in Beverly Hills Cops a year earlier.
    6) The actor who very much wanted to play the part of the large Russian Sgt. but was turned down was none of other than DOLPH LUNDGREN. Stallone remembered how much he wanted the part so he gave him Drago in Rocky 4.
    7) Major continuity errors regarding Rambo's arrows and explosive heads. In the beginning we see him put FOUR explosive heads in the case yet we see him use FIVE. Also like unlimited ammo in 80s movies, Rambo had unlimited arrows. After he shot so many soldiers with arrows throughout the film, just before he exploded the Vietnamese camp leader we see his quiver has almost a dozen more arrows in it (25:54). Moments later when he is about to use the FIFTH explosive head, he pulls that ONE LAST arrow out of the quiver.
    8) More continuity error over Rambo's unlimited M60 ammo. You literally see him with a short belt of ammo one second then the next the belt is 3 feet long. Just back and forth on the ammo.
    9) BLOOPER - When Rambo used the LAW rocket to shoot down the Russian HIND helicopter from his chopper, they split second inserted his hand on the Russian RPG launcher from the boat. Also if Rambo really had launchere a LAW rocket from inside his chopper and all those POWs were in the back, they would have gotten cooked a bit.
    10) When Rambo lands his chopper at the base, you can actually see the technical guy using a fire extinguisher to simulate the smoke coming from the chopper engine.

I think another good but lesser known Vietnam movie worth watching is “Uncommon Valor”. It has a great ensemble cast including Patrick Swayze, Gene Hackman, Fred Ward, and Randall Tex Cobb. Gene Hackman is an Army Colonel searching for his son who is a POW after the war ended. He puts together a group of vets to go back and rescue him and other POWs still being held. It’s a good movie. Hopefully you’ll check it out. Awesome reaction as usual. Hope you finish the franchise.

The Viet Nam vets were finally getting some respect after the way they were treated during the war. My brother went over there. When Rambo said ''we want our country to love us as much as we love it" I heard there were several Nam vets in the audience who just busted out crying. I served in the military when this movie came out. I didn't have to go to war. But dang, I sure got misty myself and felt much compassion for those who had served before me.

    Late comment.
This and Rocky IV in 1985.
Sly owned the game as an actor and filmmaker.
The original First Blood was always psychological with action and drama.
But these sequels turned Rambo into a major action hero.
Sly was in peak physical form.
Between the gym and working with top-notch combat experts.
For writing part 2, Stallone on one side made sure that the character remained flawed.
James Cameron on the other side added the more visceral mode of Rambo's skill and bada**.
One of the first Rated-R movies to produce toys, video games, lunch boxes, bookbags, etc.
Followed by an animated series in 1986.
"RAMBO:The Force of Freedom" (65 episodes)
Action packed, not too violent and a bit edgier than G.I. Joe.
    Glad you like this one.
The other 3 really go the distance.

It was a box office success, making $300 million dollars against a $35 million dollar budget.

In 1965, The Dow Company - best known at that time for making Saran Wrap - began making Napalm, a jellied gas used in warfare in Vietnam. Napalm became the symbol of the war. Mark Greenside explains “Napalm was this hideous, jellied gas burning at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It didn't just kill you; it tortured you.

Agent Orange was a tactical herbicide the U.S. military used to clear leaves and vegetation for military operations mainly during the Vietnam War. Veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange may have certain related cancers or other illnesses.
It is estimated that 2,000,000 people have suffered from illnesses caused by exposure and that half a million babies were born with birth defects due to the effects of Agent Orange. It is believed that Agent Orange is still affecting the health of Vietnamese people.

There are many reactors that obviously have never served a day of their lives in the military, making judgements or speculating on events. You have to remember that this mission was ideally suited to Rambo, being a Green Beret who served in Vietnam. The mission was Recon, get in and get out without a trace to gather intelligence on whether or not POW's were being held at the target location. The mission wasn't a solo war. Rambo almost certainly would have understood the difference. I served as an 0311 in the USMC. While not Force Recon or a Scout Sniper, I still understand the difference between an intelligence gathering operation and a one man war.

The fact that Murdock looked similar to the Sherriff from First Blood you knew Rambo already thought he was a prick.
When i was a young i thought Julia Nickson was one of the most beautiful women i had ever seen. But that is what's sad and tragic in the story of Rambo, usually anyone close to him dont have a happy ending.

One small error. When Rambo used the bazooka/rocket launcher there would have been backblast that would have scorched the POW'S.

His dialogue at the end of this makes me cry every time.
When the Kernel tells him not to hate his country for what happened, Rambo immediately turns around and looks insulted by him even suggesting that.
He then says he would die for his country, indicating that there is no way he could ever hate it, despite what corrupt individuals and politicians do.
And when asked what he wants......🥺😢
“For our country to love us, as much as we love it” 😭
Now THAT is a true soldier, warrior, and patriot!! 🇺🇸
    I absolutely love John Rambo’s character. 🥰

So many people of later generations that have grown up respecting veterans don’t understand the hatred that the Public had towards Vietnam vets in the 70s and 80s.
The Rambo movies show how little people cared about them

Like the first one, 'spot the famous faces' happens in this one a few times. First Blood has Bill McKinney, David Caruso, David Greenwood, and Chris Mulkey. The latter three went on to have quite the distinguished careers.
Charles Napier playing Murdock, was Tucker McElroy, the "lead singer and Winnebago driver" for 'The Good Ol Boys', in The Blues Brothers. Dude is hilarious in it.
Steven Berkoff, the Russian captain, was phenomenal as Stilgar in the Dune series and when the Brass Eye programme trolled him into explaining 'Heavy Electricity'. =]

Trautman said, "If the mission's a success, there MAY be a presidential pardon in it." Success was necessary but not sufficient, and pardon would, ofc, be at the discretion of the President (who woulda been Reagan, presuming the president was the same at the time as in our world). Given the presumption it woulda been Reagan, it could've been a pretty good chance though.

Unfortunately Trautman doesn't get quite as many one-liners in this one, but at least "What you call hell..." is one of his best. While I love a lot of parts in this, the mud wall kill, exploding the guy with the arrow, my favorite has to be Murdoch's face when Rambo says he's coming for him. Pure shock and fear, he really looks like he's peeing his pants

Yeah, I think this movie, perhaps more than any other '80s action film now (in retrospect), really established the trope of American testosterone-fueled action movies, blowing away hundreds of enemies (think they counted it at 268 or around there?), that tons of other films subsequently started leaning hard into, and kinda the most iconic one, also really establishing the name "Rambo" as the stereotype it became. Pretty much any film by Golan-Globus or Carolco Pictures, you knew what you were gonna get.

Stallone had to really pump himself up not just for this movie but also for Rocky 4 which also came out in 1985 so Stallone was very busy during the mid 80's. If you notice in the first Rambo Stallone was a little but trimmer and it's interesting the same year Rocky 3 came out which was back in 1982.

An intresting thing about First Blood was they initially had around a 4 hour movie. However it tested poorly and Stallone was really worried it would harm his career. I did hear a rumour that at one point he tried to buy the movie outright so he could shelve it. Then someone came in and cut it down to the absolute minimum and the rest is history. It's worth noting that all 5 Rambo movies have had very lean run times.

Funny thing is that in the early drafts of part 2, Rambo was supposed to have a partner and the producers were considering teaming him up with Travolta but co-screenwriters Stallone & James Cameron felt (as for character wise) Rambo works better if he is a loner, so the nixed that idea (and I'm glad that they did because they're correct, Rambo is always a lone wolf 😉).

I was in the 82nd Airborne Division. I have about 50 jumps. (Truth is, I lost count in the low 40s, but I think 50 is a good estimate.) 1- approx. 40, I was scared. Approx. 41-45, I wasn't scared anymore. Approx. 46-50 I got REALLY scared when I realized that I wasn't scared anymore. Because when you're not scared, you get sloppy. So that's when I told the retention officer "no thanks."

On the one hand, this movie is a complete betrayal of the first one, taking all of the gravity and emotional weight that made it special and selling it out for body count action.
On the other hand, though...this movie absolutely whips ass. At least it sells out for really good action, and a shit-tonne of it. This movie wasn't cheap, and the money is pretty much all there on the screen. It's also lean as hell and moves like a missile for 95 minutes. Add in an amazing score from the great Jerry Goldsmith, and you've got a pretty well perfect action movie. It may not be in the same league as the original as a film, but for what it is, it's a fucking banger.
