Why Nauru loves Abkhazia

  • The Pacific island nation of Nauru is extremely enthusiastic about its diplomatic relations with two Russian-backed breakaway republics: Abkhazia and South Ossetia. These countries are all small, poor, and 8,000 miles apart, but yet dignitaries fly back and forth between them constantly. Here's the full story.

    Apsu is an Adyghe tribe, which today is mistakenly called Abkhazians. The real Abkhazians are Georgians.
    On the one hand, it is true that the Apsu people settled in Abkhazia on the territory of Georgia. If the Apsues want independence, Georgia will support them, but on their historical land and not on the territory of Georgia. Georgia has already lost many historical territories, which now belong to its neighbors

      @Nino Tomic I agree that description also fits Kosovo to some extent. I'm not sure about South Korea. Also, not sure what your point is here. Did I miss something?

    • @FredoRockwell
      @FredoRockwell  3 года назад

      @Nino Tomic If by "my country" you mean the US, yes, it has done a lot of horrible things. I don't think the creation of Kosovo was intentional - I think this was an unintended result of the bombing of Serbia in 1999. But anyway, yes, America has intervened WAY too often in WAY too much of the world. And I have made videos that are critical of US policies and laws, and have more planned for the future. But honestly, none of that has anything to do with the Nauru-Abkhazia bilateral relations, or why they are so unexpected or amusing. Lots of governments around the world do bad things. If they do bad things which are particularly interesting funny, I am interested in making a video about it. By pointing out the absurdity of one government's actions I in no way mean to excuse or cover up for the absurdities of any other government's actions. That would be "whataboutism," (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whataboutism) which is a pretty low form of political discourse.

    • @FredoRockwell
      @FredoRockwell  3 года назад

      @Nino Tomic No problem. :) But I think you may misunderstand NATO from an American perspective. Most Americans today just see NATO as something that forces them to pay for the defence of other countries who don't want to have to pay for their own military. It's not an organization anyone feels pride in, or even pays much attention to. Also, although I know there is talk of NATO expansion, Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine are not yet members, and were definitely not members during the conflicts you mentioned.

    • @giod6266
      @giod6266 3 года назад +7

      @Nino Tomic Firstly, Abkhazian war, which was Russia vs Georgia war, they just call it Abkhazia vs Georgia war, happened in 1992/93, not in 2008! Its very important here to remember! Communications, logistics, military equipment including rockets, tactical fighter flies, tanks, artillery and more, money and so on, were provided by Russia to Abkhazian separatists, and some Russian military special forces were on the ground as well, not to mantion that hole war was Dictated by Russian militaries!
      Russians agitated Abkhazian than still communist party members and later hole Abkhaz people who were minority in Abkhazia, only 18%, to declare independence from Georgia, what Abkhazia did and war started. Why don’t you mention ethnic cleansing that followed, how many Georgians who stayed in Abkhazia and didn’t run or could not run, and were majority in Abkhazia 46%, have been hunted down? How Russians used Chechen and North Caucasian warlords and fighters against Georgian civil population? How majority of Abkhazian population, which were Georgians, still are refugees in their own country? How Georgians have been killed, executed only for being Christians and Georgians? Why don’t you mention 13/18 years old Georgian girls were forced to sex slavery in Gagra, witch is Abkhazian city on Russian border? Why don’t you mention shooting down of civilian airplanes, full of refugees??? It was pure ethnic cleansing, not so many talks about because they don’t want to upset Russian too much.
      Russophobia you say, f..k JA! Because its true, by your actions, you deserve that stigma!
      Georgia wanted independence from Russia after Soviet crush, and Russians punished Georgia by annexing these two territories. This is pure political punishment, nothing else! Russia doesn’t care about Abkhazia or South Ossetia, it cares about having military bases in the region, closer to Turkey and Iran, and control over Georgia through these small breakaway regions. Exactly as Russians do in other countries around thier borders. When a country is weak and alone, then it is much easier to control and take over. That what Russian foreign politics are about.

      That's a good question. The most obvious answer is that Russia probably hasn't paid them to. I don't totally understand how they decide, but it appears that Russia does more to prop up some of the breakaway states in its orbit than others. Before the invasion of Ukraine, for example, they kept the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics at arms length, and (from what I read) discouraged them forming a union to be known as Novorussia. But yes, it is interesting!

    I want to say something that probably not many people here know. In 1944, some residents of the North Caucasus were deported to Central Asia. They were accused of collaborating with the Germans against the Soviet Union, then in 1957 these people were sent back. The Georgians returned their homes and territory to the North Caucasians without any problems. I want to say that Georgia does not want foreign territory and Georgia only protects its historical territory, which belongs to it. Abkhazia and South Ossetia are an integral part of Georgia.

    • @servicer6969

    Апсу - адыгское племя, которое сегодня ошибочно называют абхазами. Настоящие абхазы - грузины.
    С одной стороны, это правда, что народ апсу поселился в Абхазии на территории Грузии. Если апсуеи захотят независимости, Грузия их поддержит, но на их исторической земле, а не на территории Грузии. Грузия уже потеряла многие исторические территории, которые теперь принадлежат ее соседям

  • @pbjordi

    This video is biased as it only tells one side of the story, and does so as if it were a bizarre and strange thing.
    Fact is, yes Abkhazia’s (very small) international recognition is fuelled by Russia, without Russia’s influence no country would recognize Abkhazia.
    Second fact is, Georgia’s claim on territorial integrity is (widely) recognized internationally, this support is fuelled by US and its proxy nations, without that support almost no country would recognize Georgia either.
    And then comes the biggest discovery of the video, influence is bought with money, funny how this video finds that perplexing, even reprehensible, when it is done by Russia, and then completely ignores how the US does exactly the same thing.

    • @FredoRockwell
      @FredoRockwell  3 года назад +2

      Hiya, this video is about the relationship between Nauru and South Ossetia & Abkhazia, not a wider discussion of Georgian territorial sovereignty. The nearly annual visits to Abkhazia by Nauruan delegations is really strange and unexpected, and I attempt to find an explanation - that's all. If the participants look ridiculous when the facts are explained, that's not an example of bias.
      I have no doubts the US government pressures other countries to recognize Georgia as sovereign over these territories. That would be totally expected and normal. It would also be "whataboutism" if this was included. So on that basis it didn't need to be included.
      I'm glad you watched the video, however, and I hope you will continue to watch and that some day I make one you enjoy more. :)

      Duuude wtf? Without US no one would recognize Georgia? That's the biggest bullshit I read in 2021 yet ( although I've read some shit about earth being flat ). It was recognised as an independent country right after the dissolution of the union. Keep in mind west didn't really help Georgia in 1990s when there were wars against separatists. It was basically Russia who sold weapons to both sides. ( But as you might guess, Russia favoured separatists way more than Georgians to keep its influence on the country)
