@@OXiG96 Ossetia is not russia. Why did South ossetians bomb Georgians for years before they tried to stop it ? And what right does russia have to attack from ossetia (Which is not their country to being with) to Georgia without warning ?
@@VeXu666 1. What do you mean by "ossetians bomb Georgians for years"? If you mean 1991-1992 South Ossetia War, it was started by Georgia too. 2. I didn't say that Ossetia is Russia. However, Ossetia is Russia's friendly state, so it was protected from the Georgian attack. Or do you think that Russian army came in Ossetia against Ossetians will, which wanted to be shelled to death? Also, there were Russian peacekeepers, which have died because of this attack. Is it good enough reason for intervention? 3. "without warning" - which warning do you mean? If you start a war against another state be ready that its' allies can come and help that state. It was a peace enforcement operation, if Russian army wanted, they could easily take Tbilisi and install puppet government like US always does, but they didn't do that, so I don't see a problem here. 4. I'm impressed how you guys in the West love to apply double standards. Let's imagine Finland was attacked by some country. Finland's government had asked NATO for help and NATO or US came to Finland, protected territories and have stopped the war. Would you call that event "NATO aggression" too?
Antonio Lombardi Have you considered that they are joining NATO because russia keeps pulling shit like this and has been doing so forever. My country hasnt gone a century in the past thousand years without having atleast one war with russia.
This is more relevant than ever now with the war in Ukraine. I pray for Georgia to never ever have any occupation and they may remain independent. It's such a lovely country.
The Ukrainian army has been shelling the breakaway Republics since 2014 and have killed more than 15000 people before Russian patience finally snapped. Do you think it's right to support a morally bankrupt, failed state that murders people it says are theirs but actually wants to grind their bones to dust?
@@paintsilj Everything you just said is false. The only ones that makes that claim are Putin and the simpletons too dumb and lazy to check that claim. The over 13,000 death toll is the total dead from that conflict, not just the dead in Donbas. That war was started, continued, and escalated by Russia and extremists in Donbas, not Ukraine.
2:41 "Your dog's not respecting the border." There's an interesting historical footnote related to that. A small conflict between Greece and Bulgaria 90 years ago was instigated - according to one of the parties - because a soldier strayed across the border to go after his dog and was shot. At least a hundred died in the conflict. Strangely enough, when the normally ineffectual League of Nations demanded a cease-fire, it actually ended the conflict.

Firstly, Russian so called "peacekeepers" entered Ossetia, and Its common knowledge that they were not peacekeepers and towards Georgia it was violation of its sovereignty and of course Georgia reacted and sent troops to its own territory, and Russia claimed that we bombed our own city - Tskhinvali (total bullshit) and got excuse to do what it did, check euronews.com and history.com as well, have a nice time 😊
As an Ukrainian I understand Georgia's pain and I think that we have to unite with each other to become against them and save our territory and our people. If you think it's not necessary you're going to get occupied by Russian Armed Forces.

@@manavrawat4192 well you can preach morallity to a russian soldiers but when they are behind 900mms of steel with rumbling engine they wont hear a thing
Firstly, as a Georgian I would like to express gratitude to all the journalists who made this video - you are doing a great job to show to the whole world what we are suffering from. After 2003 Georgia has done everything to become part of NATO but unfortunately just in vain. Up to this time 31 Georgian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan and 100s of them have been injured. Our only wish is to join NATO but every time we are saying this, they reject us. Of course they do help us by doing some kind of military exercises but it is not sufficient. Georgia has lost 25% of it's territory and this loss is still going on. On our own we can't stop it and ask other nations to unite because the next one might be you (just like Ukraine at the moment).
I know it's sad. To be fair though Georgia was well on it's way to joining NATO, with the U.S. especially welcoming Georgia with open arms. Unfortunately NATO can't except any country that has border disputes, especially ones with Russia. That's why this conflict is going, even though the fighting stopped years ago, because Putin knows once he allows the border to stop moving and settlements to be reached, Georgia will dash towards NATO. But it won't be like this forever. Russia's population is declining, and they have already extended their budget with their war on the west. They had to cancel the mass production of their SU-57, make military budget cuts, and back down on pension reforms, which will only become more desperately needed as time goes by. And oil/gas, which is their biggest source of money, will decline as the world switches to renewable energy. Russia can not afford to continue Putin's foreign adventures indefinitely. Eventually Putin will be gone and the oligarchs will take over, and they will face angry Russians who see more and more of their money going to the military while they get poorer, and the Putin cult won't be there to stop it. At that point they will makes concessions so that the sanctions can end, the oligarchs can do business with the west and Russia won't be so limited on cash. And then hopefully Georgia, along with Ukraine, can join NATO.
The problem is that NATO is to far away to do something other than send weapons. In fact the posibility of Georga and Ukraine joining NATO made Russia scale up their agression.
@@ricardosoto5770 actually once Ukraine joins NATO Russia will have a hard time sustaining a military force large enough to threaten NATO, because they will have to fight a front over 2000 kilometers long, which will spread out Russia's military, and they will no longer be able to threaten Baltics and potentially cut it off from the rest of NATO without having to fight a war in their southern territory, as well as in their far east with American forces coming from Alaska.
@@TWE_2000 Its a interesting theory, but actually it means that NATO also will have to defend a 2000 km border with no real geographical features. Poland its geographical the crown jewel of NATO because is a natural bottleneck in the great European plain that goes from the French Atlantic coast to the Urals. From the Baltic to the Tantras and the Carpatian Mountains, Poland becames a natural bottle neck. The only problem is the Kaliningrad enclave. That shall be insolated or destroyed before reinforcing the Baltics. But NATO shall develop ties with Ukcraine, once the Crima and Donestk stuff is solved. Like Finland and Sweden they are "neutral" countries that know that their only real enemy is Russia, and Russia knows that too. That is why they tried to invade Finland in the past, and how do war games against Sweden. An independent "neutral" Ukraine shall know that their only real enemy would be a Russian invasion, anyways. So they will arm themselves with Nato compatible equipment and tactics and Nato will low key sell them arms and training to make an invasion constly.

Then he proceed by telling: "They want to make me a Russian citizen". Which is another lie. Abkhazia and South Osetia just wanted to be independent from Georga. Why they didn't ask people from those regions opinion on that matter? Do they want to be Georgian? Another manipulation is to showing crying people. The Russian military intervention in Georgia in August 2008 has raised significant questions about Russian thinking and practice on the legitimate use of military force abroad, especially in relation to neighbour states. The arguments advanced by Russia to justify this campaign show how Russian interpretations of customary international law as well as norms related to the use of force have served as an instrument of state policy, rather than being rooted in any broader international consensus. The Russian discourse in this context about sovereignty, self-determination and the legitimacy of recognising South Ossetia and Abkhazia as states appears similarly to be strongly influenced by political self-interest and Russian views about its entitlement within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. Among Russian claims, Moscow's commitment to support its ‘citizens’ abroad has been particularly controversial. This article examines these issues and also the possibility that, through its justifications for waging war against Georgia, Russia is more broadly contesting the interpretation of certain international norms, that it regards as essentially constructed by Western states. Some potential implications of these legal and normative arguments for future Russian policy in the CIS region, including Ukraine, are also examined. @@Thelostgoldhunters US invasions are a drop in the bucket by comparison. What did I miss about WWII? The Russian imperialists began the war in an alliance with the Nazis and divided Europe into their respective spheres of influence. The Russians repeated their traditional invasion routes for the old empire, and when the Nazis attacked, they expanded their new communist empire as far as Germany. They were planning on an advantageous entry into the war.
If Russia wanted to occupy Georgia, they could have done so in 2008. The Georgian army (which started the war according to the EU commission report) was beaten and the Russian columns were in Mtskheta, 15km from Tbilisi. Their mission accomplished (self-defense), they turned around and went home. Since then, all hysterical claims that Putin wants to take occupy or annex Georgia have been groundless. He had the opportunity, he did not do it. As for Abkhazia and South Ossetia, this shit happened in 1990 due to Georgia's first president, Ghamsekhurdia, who was an extreme nationalist who threatened minorities and took away Abkhazia's autonomy and said everybody would speak Georgian. Long Live independent and strong Georgia! death Russian Imperialism!!! soon all Russian republics: Chechnya, Ingushetya, Dagestan, Adyga, KarachayBalkarya, Kalmikya, Tatarstan and etc... will be free!!!
Regardless of how people may feel about any bias that may or may not exist, Vice definitely takes initiative and goes where the story is. Permissive environment be damned.
All the independent nations around Russia need to stand together as one " while they can " and drive Russia back within its own proper borders !!! Otherwise Russia will continue to chip away at all of them until they take it all!!!
There's so many inaccuracies... for starters South Ossetia is recognised by several other countries other than Russia. Also, why doesn't vice mention that Ossetians and Abkhazians don't want to live under Georgian rule?
In order to understand issue in Georgia, one needs to know geopolitics and history. Only then will be able to clearly see what caused this conflict and how bad things can get in the future if NATO continues with expansion.
Countries join NATO, when they feel threatened by Russia. Russians can't complain about that, because their government's aggressive actions makes these smaller countries desperately want to join NATO. If the schoolyard bully sees that the bullied band together and call someone else to help them against the bully, the bully should think about his awful actions instead of claiming victimhood! "Oh, all these children band together and even called their big brother on me, I'm so persecuted and threatened!" Just stop bullying people, then people will stop treating you like a threat!

@@VeXu666
I mean, Georgian civillians casualties are worse

@@ricocomedy1770
They used it twice in Ukraine, once in 2017 and once now.
The Ukrainian army has been shelling the breakaway Republics since 2014 and have killed more than 15000 people before Russian patience finally snapped. Do you think it's right to support a morally bankrupt, failed state that murders people it says are theirs but actually wants to grind their bones to dust?
@@paintsilj
Everything you just said is false. The only ones that makes that claim are Putin and the simpletons too dumb and lazy to check that claim. The over 13,000 death toll is the total dead from that conflict, not just the dead in Donbas. That war was started, continued, and escalated by Russia and extremists in Donbas, not Ukraine.
2:41 "Your dog's not respecting the border."
There's an interesting historical footnote related to that.

@@TWE_2000 yes. While we lose 30% population russia slowly lossing and lossing. And now we are kinda incrasing. (At least we went from -30% to 0,5%)
The problem is that NATO is to far away to do something other than send weapons.
So they will arm themselves with Nato compatible equipment and tactics and Nato will low key sell them arms and training to make an invasion constly.

ruclips.net/video/EpbgRn-j5eo/видео.html

+thetoughguy jr. Well. South Ossetia is not part of Russia, it's independent country. I agree they were invaded many times for no good reason during Imperial and Communist days however.
CJ Francia-Colindres Independent my ass, they are puppet state of russia, used to apply pressure on Georgia
Copying and saving this, can come in handy.
Reads like a list of US invasions... I think you kind of missed the point of WW2 somewhere along the line....
Russia had it's own problems (and still does) - it had nothing to do with this. (Not to mention then President Yeltsin was a US stooge.)
Basically, it was the same way rabid nationalist Ukrainians destroyed their country 2 years ago.
No if Russia occupied Georgia we the US would have responded.
And Marsians too :))
1 word, bullshit.
I've trained at the Georgian training area with the army
Your reports seem extremely biased.

RIS J The war was started by Pro Russian Georgian rebels who were funded by Russia. Russia then invaded Georgia.
Why are some people blaming Georgia? The Ossetians had bombarded Georgian villages for weeks before the 2008 war and the Russian army was ready to invade.
20:00 literally making me cry dude
Well North Ossetia is in Russia but they aren't asking for independence like their southerners
Why?

The old Sheppard and his wife marazi remind me exactly of my Hungarian grandparents. Good people Georgians huh.
Why is this a problem in Ossetia/Georgia and a national right of defence in Israel? 'The Russians' affect a handful of people (tragedy), Israel affects millions (statistics). Tragedy vs Statistics is a Georgian notion - Stalin's.

Today is 2023 and the Russian occupation continues in Georgia after 2008. People are still being abducted illegally by the Russian occupation troops. If we sleep in Georgia today, we don't know where we will wake up tomorrow.
So sad to see this happening to my people :((
dowsnt matter if it belongs to georgia or south ossettia but it DOESNT BELONG TO RUSSIA

The USA doesn’t care about the illegal occupation of Palestine or Kashmir, only occupations where there’s money to be made.
Yes . South Ossetia notorious for its wealth .
That couple at the end where just to pure.
All of the Georgians i have met have been wonderful, warm, friendly people. There needs to be more attention paid to russias incessant incursions on the borders of sovereign nations
I Hope you can right now understand why i hatte russia. Dude, After Abkhazia, now Samatschablo(South Ossetia). Ist terryfying. We want our Territories back. WTF?!The situation is not even complicated, as in Palestine or Pakistan or Syria, for example. It's all our territories and Russia is 100% occupier.
Oh I forgot Sashkavilli was caught on tape last week orchestrating a COUP WAR in Georgia!
I've been to Georgia in 2016 with my Russian girlfriend, and we've felt nothing but welcome. Of course, we never managed to get anywhere near Abkhazia or South Ossetia (we tried to go to Abkhazia but we found the train line going there was shut down) but we went to almost every region of the country and enjoyed the famous Georgian hospitality everywhere. Almost every middle-aged man we met had served in the Soviet army once and even knew my girlfriend's not too well-known birthplace. Everyone we met was happy to practice their Russian skills with us and constantly gave us gifts and invited us to their homes. It was a great time.
Most people we met were very critical of Sakashvili, the president who started the war with Russia, but admitted that he did a lot to stop crime and corruption. The only complaint we'd heard about Russia was that Georgians needed a visa to visit Russia, but Russians did not need a visa to visit Georgia.
russia started the war
Saakashvili did not start a war in 2008(don't listen to the imperialist girlfriend). Russia invaded Georgia with tanks, and we do not meet the enemy with flowers.
well Georgia did not really start the war the war started because of the ossetians bombing the Georgian villages so that they could drag Georgia into war and Russia would have an opportunity to invade Georgia
Actually no Russia is not alone in recognizing south ossetia Venezuela, Nicaragua, and nauru also recognize south ossetia.
Noah Ross Nauru lol
Russia is an occupant !
Learn history, Abkhazia and "south ossetia" in fact it is Samachablo region and not "south ossetia" always was and will be part of Georgia.

yes, sadly the world not work that way. this is nothing new in history. history book always talk well of great nation but that great nation always abuse the power because human work that way. unless human become contrite, pentinent, sees his place before God - if not this then human will always fight other human to be #1.
Yeah right, just tell me again who shot first in 2008?
Who opresses Ossetsia since 1920?
Protip: its not Russia.
Katjuscha they had their rightful autonomy, If they wanted Russian goverment they could might as well moved to north Ossetia. Majority of South Ossetian population still was Georgian. So if majority was Georgian, Georgians and Ossetians were getting along and they had no rightful claim on terrytory which was Georgian since it's exsistence, maybe rebels were supported for preventing Georgia from joining Nato?
pro tip: it was Russia.
Russia: 771 000 active army personnel. 69.3 $ billion army budget. 10 bases abroad, most in bordering countries.
NATO: 3 585 000 active army personnel. USA's alone army budget. 640 $ BILLION. NATO bases expanding since the fall of the Soviet Union, long before Russia was active on the global scene. Why? More and more NATO bases around the borders of Russia. Poland, Lithuania, Latvia etc. long before Ukrainian crisis.
Yep. Russians are totally coming.

There's so many inaccuracies... for starters South Ossetia is recognised by several other countries other than Russia. Also, why doesn't vice mention that Ossetians and Abkhazians don't want to live under Georgian rule?
If they dont want to live under Georgia's rule, they can pack up their belongings, move to Russia and leave Georgia's territory. Isn't that simple?
@@portnoyereShould the Africans and Indians have down that in the 1950s?
In order to understand issue in Georgia, one needs to know geopolitics and history. Only then will be able to clearly see what caused this conflict and how bad things can get in the future if NATO continues with expansion.
NATO dont expand itself. Russia have great ability making ultimatiums to small countrys. 4 countrys waiting now in line to join NATO.
