    Why Russia needs the Ukraine
    For those who ask: “Why does Ukraine matter? “
    This is why Ukraine matters.
    It is the second largest country by area in Europe by area and has a population
    of over 40 million - more than Poland.
    Ukraine ranks:
    1st in Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores;
    2nd place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of titanium ore reserves;
    2nd place in the world in terms of explored reserves of manganese ores (2.3 billion tons, or 12% of the world's reserves);
    2nd largest iron ore reserves in the world (30 billion tons);
    2nd place in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves;
    3rd place in Europe (13th place in the world) in shale gas reserves (22 trillion cubic meters)
    4th in the world by the total value of natural resources;
    7th place in the world in coal reserves (33.9 billion tons)
    Ukraine is an important agricultural country:
    1st in Europe in terms of arable land area;
    3rd place in the world by the area of black soil (25% of world's volume);
    1st place in the world in exports of sunflower and sunflower oil;
    2nd place in the world in barley production and 4th place in barley exports;
    3rd largest producer and 4th largest exporter of corn in the world;
    4th largest producer of potatoes in the world;
    5th largest rye producer in the world;
    5th place in the world in bee production (75,000 tons);
    8th place in the world in wheat exports;
    9th place in the world in the production of chicken eggs;
    16th place in the world in cheese exports.
    Ukraine can meet the food needs of 600 million people.
    Ukraine is an important industrialised country:
    1st in Europe in ammonia production;
    Europe's 2nd’s and the world’s 4th largest natural gas pipeline system;
    3rd largest in Europe and 8th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of nuclear power plants;
    3rd place in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of rail network length (21,700 km);
    3rd place in the world (after the U.S. and France) in production of locators and locating equipment;
    3rd largest iron exporter in the world
    4th largest exporter of turbines for nuclear power plants in the world;
    4th world's largest manufacturer of rocket launchers;
    4th place in the world in clay exports
    4th place in the world in titanium exports
    8th place in the world in exports of ores and concentrates;
    9th place in the world in exports of defence industry products;
    10th largest steel producer in the world (32.4 million tons).
    Ukraine matters. That is why its independence is important to the rest of the world.

      we can see that Russia has other intentions.
      Actually Putin's main goal is to want Ukraine's natural wealth. In 2012, abundant natural gas and oil reserves were found in eastern Ukraine, it's Crimea, Donbask, Luhansk, Donesk, and Moldova in western Ukraine.
      that's why those parts of the territory that Russia really want to take are Crimea, Donbask, Luhansk, Donesk. And now they are closer to the western region of Ukraine as well, it's Moldova.
      Now, observers of world politics are reading Russia's movements, what they suspect is true, Russia's main goal is to target this area that has the potential for natural gas and oil.
      See.... that Crimea fell into Russia in 2014, but Russia ( Putin) was never satisfied with just one region, Putin also continued to rise up the rebellion he formed in Ukraine, and made the Ukrainian leader furious and inevitably sought refuge in NATO by joining NATO. because Ukraine feels unsafe to stand as an neutral country, Russia since 2000 after one year Putin became president of Russia continuously seized Ukraine territorial and Russia also supporting the rebellion in Ukraine to against the legitimate government in Ukraine. Ukraine will not choose to enter NATO if Russia as a neighboring country does not continue to seize Ukrainian territory. We can see the goals of the Russians rebellion it is to broke Ukrainan united and to seize the territory of Ukraine which has great natural potential.
      Russia and Ukraina same as like North Korea dan South Korea. (Russia) as North Korea and South Korea (Ukraina) .
      Most North Koreans choose to be South Koreans because they don't want to spend their whole life being North Korea, which is known as a country that adheres to the communist ideology capitalist .
      If we hear Putin's statement saying that his invasion was only to keep Ukraine from entering Nato, why is Russia (Putin) also stealing and seizing the territory of this independent country. If the purpose of the invasion was only to keep Ukraine from entering Nato, Russia should not have stolen and taken this territory of Ukraine, which has been independent since 1991. Invaded the country already independent that's so wrong , what's more, Russia (Putin) has also stolen the territory of an independent country......
      Look at how deceitful Russia, the dictator, has acted so recklessly. Crimea which has been a Russian federation since 2014, many of them now regret and want to return to Ukraine but it is not that easy anymore, because all the leaders in cremia are puppets of Russia and those who are pro-Ukraine are imprisoned or even killed. When Crimea entered Russia, many foreign businessmen broke away from Crimea and did not want to invest there. Crimea is known for its beautiful beaches, now there are no more tourists visiting there, because they are afraid to see the large number of Russian military in Crimea, Crimea is only the center of the Russian military and Russia is also free to mine Crimea gas and oil. That is the goal of Russia to control the natural wealth of Crimea, which is known as one of the regions that has the largest natural gas and oil wealth in the world.
      We can see the different treatment that Russia did to Estonia and Latvia when they entered Nato in 2004. Putin, who has been be the President of Russia since 1999, doesn't even seem to hold Estonia and Latvia, even though if you look at these two countries, their position is same equal to Ukraine, which is in the middle between Nato and Russia. Estonia and Latvia are even closer to the Russian capital Moscow. These 2 former Soviet Union countries were not even invaded by Russia when they entered Nato. Why ??? because Estonia and Latvia do not have large natural resources to benefit Russia, so Russia (Putin) does not appear to be so adamant in defending these 2,,,,, WHILE Ukraine has very abundant natural potential, if Russia can seize it , it is very profitable for Russia. It could lift Russia into a country that has the largest natural wealth in the world. Likewise, the way their ancestors the Soviet Union taught Russia to dominate the world took away the natural wealth of other country and their federation, Enriched themself and made other poor inevitably depend on it. Thats why the Soviet Union collapsed before because of their selfish, greedy, corrupt, dictator, their union was broken and not harmonious because Russia as the leader of the Soviet Union at that time only enriched themself and could not be fair to the federation. See that's why most of them joined Nato instead of remaining part of the Soviet Union ( Russia)

      They moved the indigenous Tartars out of Crimea immediately after WW2 to create the Russian dominated colony. Later it was moved to Ukraine because of geographic logic, Crimea has little fresh water.
      Crimea suffered badly as an unrecognised sanctioned area, the Russian economy works for the well connected not ordinary people.
      Furthermore the sanctions imposed in 2014 has clearly degraded Russian military capabilities.

      @@RobBCactive it is a crime against humanity to purposefully block access to water to the population. North Crimean Canal is responsible for 85% of Crimeas water. People in Simferopol had only water for 4 hours per day !!!!
      Not only that, but Ukraine also completely shut down all the electricity towards Crimea. That is why the Russian forces have captured the nuclear power plant in Energodar, they do not want to fire at the plant because they need it. It is Ukraine that is corrupt and sabotaging. Yeah, Soviet Union had some big problems, Stalin did horrific things, but Soviet Union is gone and the forced removal of Tatars happened 70-80 years ago. Putin is openly criticising Soviet Union and Lenin. The referendum in Crimea, 96% voted to join Russia. Do you know how many Tatars there are? 12% . "An illegal referendum" - Crimea was an autonomous region in both the Soviet Union and in Ukraine. Actually, Crimea left USSR before Ukraine did and wanted to join Russia in 1991. To avoid a possible conflict, president Jeltsin allowed Ukraine to keep administrative control of Crimea as long as its autonomous rights were respected.
    The referendum was legal and according to the international laws and UN charters of self-determination. It was issued by a lawfully elected autonomous government of Crimea and controlled by UN observers.
    The only reason the USA and its allies are calling the referendum "illegal" is that they don't like the outcome.
    If Crimea was "occupied" and "annexed" then where are the protests? Where are the "freedom fighters"? Where are the Russian occupying forces patrolling the streets? Those are the signs of an oppressive and occupying foreign force. Like the Americans in Iraq.

Give me the polls from the UN observation committee. from Indian observers, you know, people without a political stake in Crimea. Where are those? Crimea was an autonomous area - autonomous with certain rights. One of those rights was to decide its own faith. Crimea wanted to be a part of Russia when they left the Soviet Union, but Yeltsin (read - USA) stopped them.
      Instead of citing anti-Russian nonsense, how about you answer me about who invited the USA to Iraq?
      And, if anything of your anti-Russian propaganda was even remotely right...where are the "freedom fighters" against Russia? Where are those poor, sad Tatars, fighting for, oh, so beautiful Ukrainian rule? I can tell you, they freaking HATE the Ukrainian government. Ukrainian mad and uncontrolled nationalism have removed all minority rights in Crimea. Now the right is back, because of the Russian Federations Constitution. Russians don't remove nations from their constitution as Ukrainians do.
      Just read what you said, travel to Crimea - or look at videos from common people in Crimea, and you'll realize they are finally home. Ukrainian military left without the fuss because they went home...where they came from. West of Kiev.

    The Crimea has been Russian well before there was a country called the Ukraine.. The British, French and Turks fought the Russians in the Crimea in the 1850s. I have been to the area, as a military history buff I went there to walk the battlefields of the Crimean War. Yet in spite of the short time I was there I noticed how pro-Russian the people are, they speak Russian and many consider themselves Russian not Ukrainian. Khruschev gave the Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR without consulting the people of the region, at that time it did not matter too much because the Ukraine and Russia were all one country back then, the USSR. But when the Ukraine became independent then it became an issue with many people of the Crimea crying out to be annexed by Russia. Without Russia's mostly bloodless take over it is very possible that a rising against Kiev could have broken out in the Crimea, starting an insurgency that could have gone on for years and cost thousands of lives. I am British and I back Russia all the way over the Crime

    • @kingofscotland2295
      @kingofscotland2295 9 лет назад +4

      +Ancupola The referendum was NOT legal for several reasons: 1) Russian troops ILLEGALLY entered Crimea (then part of Ukraine) with hundreds of troops. Taking over government buildings and ordering the Ukrainian military to evacuate. This violated the 1994 Budapest Agreement, which Russia signed honouring Ukraine's territorial sovereignty. So right off the bat here, we have an illegal, foreign occupation, which used violence- 2 Ukrainian soldiers killed.2) The referendum was not sanctioned by Ukraine, as Crimea was still legally a part of it. Essentially, a foreign invasion force ordered a referendum without consent from Kiev.3) The referendum itself was a farce. It was hastily ordered, without time for real political debate- for example, there were no pro-Ukrainian opposition parties. Any Ukrainian attempts to protest were repressed, with people intimidated, attacked or imprisoned. Not to mention the huge amount of anti-Ukrainian propaganda, which depicted Ukrainians as Nazis. In short, it was an annexation- exactly the same thing happened to Austria under the Anschluss of 1938.

      Дурень, ты живешь у себя в России и рассказываешь мне про то в чем я сам принимал участие. Рассказывая подобную чушь.
      Начнем с того, что Янукович после своего избрания систематически нарушал Конституцию Украины. В Украинской Конституции единственным источником власти есть народ, а уже потом президенты, парламент и т.д. Если народ не согласен с действиями парламента или президента, он имеет право на протест и как нормальный президент Янукович должен был прислушаться к мнению народа, потому как он не царь в отличии от вашего Путина. Но Янукович поставил забор возле Верховной Рады и нагнал туда "беркут" который защищал Януковича и его Партию Регионов от гнева народного. Янукович продлил базирование ЧФ РФ в Крыму, хотя украинцы были против. И вот чем это обернулось сейчас. Попросту Янукович это 6-стёрка Путина. Он полностью прибрал все рычаги власти к своим рукам.
      А уже осенью 2013 г. студенты вышли на майдан. После чего пришел "беркут" и разогнал этих студентов ударами дубинок по голове. Разбивая при этом головы безоружных людей. Попадало даже девушкам. Украинцы имели полное право свергнуть этого пидараса продающего Украину Путину. Украинцы имели полное право защищаться от мусоров-преступников, которые служили этому гандону! Украинский народ имел полное право после убийства мусорами людей хоть стрелять, хоть резать. Потому что украинский народ стоял за свое государство, а мусора стояли за пидараса который это государство разрушал!

У меня в округе несколько заводов стоят и заменить заказчиков, поставщиков, профиль производства и наработанные связи не реально без огромных инвестиций, под санкции попадать нет желающих.

  • @aaronhoy3410
    @aaronhoy3410 6 лет назад +16

    I mean honestly both sides on this issue make pretty f-cking absurd statements/arguments. Is what Russia did legal? No, of course not. But, it's also illegal to carry out a covert armed coup in a country as well disposing of the legally elected President so, the West doesn't have any room to talk on this issue as they were the first ones in this country to carry out an illegal act (& that specifically limits things to actions to solely what happened in Ukraine... we won't even go into actions elsewhere.) That doesn't make it what Russia did legal still, but it certainly should make people not listen when the West whines about Russia's illegal behavior in taking Crimea.
    Secondly, they did carry out a referendum in Crimea for people to express what they wanted to happen. Now the west dismissed the whole thing as a sham, but the polling done in Crimea a year after the referendum which found almost identical results to the referendum & was done by western polling companies from the U.S. & Germany seems to answer whether or not the vote was a legitimate vote or not, & does so quite definitively as well. This again, still does not make it legal but cannot possibly be ignored by anyone of some basic ethics/morals. Nor, can one ignore the very harm that was being inflicted & threated to continue being inflicted on Crimeans by paramilitary irregular forces from Ukraine.
    Did Russia do what they did because the government was trying to help some suffering people out in the region? F-ck no, just like no other country's government acts on behalf of helping people who are suffering under whatever circumstances anywhere, ever. It just happens that in this scenario their self-interest aligned with what helped Crimeans so it was a PR bonus. Why do people have such a difficult time with any sort of objectivity on this type of sh-t. What Russia did was not legal & wasn't "right" per say, but it was less wrong than what the West did in carrying out a cover coup of the legitimate Ukrainian government via local collaborators in Ukraine & better than letting whatever would've happened to Crimeans had they remained in Ukraine given the violence & persecution that had been going ever since the coup against Ukrainians who were ethnically Russian which the majority in Crimea was & is (even more of whom speak Russian as their primary language.)
    So it was the least bad of the 2 options at the time, it would have of course been much better for none of this sh-t to ever happen in the first place, but I'm certainly not going to fret & complain about what Russia did in response to the coup we sponsored because while Russia did out their own self-interest it did in fact help protect Crimeans. Does that make Putin & the Russian government angels in the world f-ck no, there is plenty of sh-t one can legitimately complain about in terms of what they do at home & abroad... just like you can in the West.

    Each story hase two sides and its good to listen to both of them, but what happened in Crimea was planed years ago by ex Ukranian president and Russian government . Or to put in other words the Russian government was "advising" Janukovich for every military action in Ukraine, which left Ukraine in a sorry military state so when the time comes the Russian army wont encounter any opposition whatsoever.
    Thats why the Crimea was annexed in such a short time, becouse if you already want to join another country or form a new independant satate it takes a little bit more time to prepare a legitimate referendum, just look at Scotlands referendum .
    Which is why the percentage of joining Russia was high, becouse people that didnt like the referendum or didnt think it was legitimate didnt go to vote.
    We live in 21st century and when you see whats happening there at the moment makes you think that we are in 18th century where people were fighting for territory.
    I feel sorry for all the people that lost their lives on both sides so world leaders could feed their ego.
    I live in Europe and I am not saying its perfect , we are allso going through crisis ,but I dont think anyone is 100 % happy with their country,its just the way human beings are.
    But allso I am not afraid of someone invading my teritory , or becouse I said something gets me tortured or killed, which couldnt be said for areas that are pro russian occupied in Ukraine.

      Darling, you are a lunatic. Or ignorant. There was no such thing like Russia 988. Vladimir the Great was baptized in Chersonesus and proceeded to baptize his family and people in Kiev. The latter events are traditionally referred to as baptism of Rus. Kiever Rus was not Russia, it was a Kingdom territorial identical with contemporary Ukraine. By the way: First documented in 1147, Moscow appeared on the scene 200 years after golden age of Kiever Rus. And Chersoneus was neither Ukrainian nor Russian - at the time it was Greek colony (for over thousand of years already.)

      Russians, on the other side, were complete opposite and frankly they were like "typical russian portrait" for what europeans and americans should think of russians: drunk hobo, drunk guys in uniform and old ladies.

    The international community should be making sure that the Ukraine gets back every inch of its territory especially the areas that Putin has illegally occupied. Furthermore there should be monetary compensation, born by Russia, to all Ukrainian citizens for their losses as well as the rebuilding of the Ukraine.

      Why? Their people voted in refferendums in crimea (which was occupied before it was even annexed due to a leasing deal of its ports between russia and ukraine) Donetsk and luhansk. Majority ruled they didnt want to be part of ukraine and to join russia. These people were long since persecuted and attacked by the ukrainian government and neo nazis such as azov and those it employed for going against ukrainian interests. Cease fires agreed to by ukraine after the independance of Donetsk and luhansk were constantly interupted by bombing from the ukrainian goverment. Ukraine is not a democracy. It appears to be by taking out any who go against it. Just look at current events and how many people zelensky has ousted for being pro russian. These people deserve compensation and freedom from ukraine. Its sick to see so many of us fall for ukrainian propaganda. Claims without much evidence coming from bias ukraine officials of russians committing war crimes?
      Media says it must be true or at least paints it out to be
      Claims and video proof of ukraine commiting war crimes not just in current events but in the years before are shrugged off. You hear things like "there will be an investigation"
      "Apparently russia claims..."

    It would be more accurate to say that the move was condemned by the United States and their allies. China and other BRICS countries as well as many other countries did not condemn the reunification of Russia and Crimea. In fact, China's strategic interests include reunification with Taiwan (in spite of US interests in the region), while India still sees the split of the former Greater India (and the establishment of Pakistan) as bad. So, using the term "international community" for "the US and their allies" is incorrect (if done unwittingly) or dishonest (if done on purpose). The West is not the whole world.

So should that be what's more important? The impact on the locals and if they happy then why is it a massive issue?
    I know there are Ukrainians who aren't keen. But they can still remain in what's still Ukraine. I know this was a strategic move by Russia. But the constant pressure from outside nations is what's really forcing their hand to get on the defensive so can we blame them?

    Of course the reunion of Crimea to Russia is act of annexation, but that doesn't deny the fact that majority of local people wanted (and will be want) to stay with Russia. And this is key question to government of Ukraine - how they conducted their politics which led to this situation. After they had grabbed the power their first action - they canceled the law of local language (which even didn't work), they play up to nationalist groups and so on. They had obtained that they deserve.

    Crimea was transferred to Ukraine in 1956 illegally, i.e. with violation of the legislation of the Soviet Union. If someone believes that the Crimea was transferred to Russia in 2014 illegally, then it turns out, as they say in Russia, “Bash on Bash”. Then tell this person that the question has been settled.
