"HOLLYWOOD AND THE FEMININE FORM DIVINE"- KIM NOVAK. She was born Marilyn Pauline Novak on February 13,1933,in Chicago,Illinois. Her father was Joseph Novak,a history teacher,and her mother was Blanche Kral,a factory worker. Young Novak attended William Penn Elementary School,later Farragut High Scholl,then Wright Junior College. She later won two scholarships to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During the summer break after her last semester at junior college,Novak went on a cross country tour modeling for a refrigerator company,and while in Los Angeles,was crowned "Miss Deepfreeze". She was later spotted by a talent agent for Columbia Pictures,and signed to a long term movie contract. Groomed by the studio as a successor to Rita Hayworth,she was cast in the film "Pushover" in 1954 opposite Fred MacMurray,and stardom soon followed. Kim Novak had a strking screen presence wsith her platinum blonde hair,piercing green eyes,and a soft,soothing voice. The one word to describe Kim Novak would have to be "sensual". She made 30 feature films,and had a show business career that lasted thirty-seven years that included films and television. Yes,Kim Novak was beautiful, and one of the most alluring actresses ever to be seen on the Silver Screen.My favorite Kim Novak film is "Bell,Book,and Candle" with James Stewart.That is why I chose Frank Sinatra's "Witchcraft" for the song in my tribute.
