Yeah, I don't think I've ever been more turned off by a weapon customization system than in CoD Vanguard. All they had to do was lean into an alt history setting like Wolfenstein. Then they could have had some fun with making weird off the wall "WW2 style" weaponry and attachments that actually make logical sense. But no, this is CoD and we screw 4x scopes into the slide of your 1911 😂😂

Because I don't think I want to be reminded of Medal of Honor back when _they_ used that subtitle.

    Two thoughts:
Did anyone else find the aesthetic of this game to be as brown and grey and realistic as 7th gen games? I thought even the brighter scenes had a more muted and dull color palette than Cold war.
As a long time CoD player I associate the WWII games to be about the common soldier and the modern games to be about special forces (more so post CoD 4.....taken to the extreme of being a hero shooter in BlOps 3/4). Seeing this elite squad in WWII didn't quite gel with me, especially an ad hoc multinational squad with a very 2021 outlook on society, instead of something like the SBS or OSS or Smersh. CoD WWII 2017 got it right in that very specific regard.

I'm still pissed about DWTerminator's review of World at War due to his sloppy, inexperienced assessment of it, but I digress. Now granted, most historical WW2 battles featured in World at War were greatly exaggerated, its inappropriate & constant overuse of guitar riffs on almost every theme song imaginable, and an overly serious tone, but at least it felt the closest thing to an authentic World War II shooter, in the Call of Duty series.

Everything about this game just shows you how little they cared.
-Activision is desperate to make some of that sweet sweet Fortnite money, so they added Terminators, Laser Guns, and all that modern crap into a WW2 setting.
-They hired Sam Maggs, a social activist, to write the campaign's story, rather than a game writer with actual training and experience.
-The WW2 guns don't work like they are supposed to, the designers simply didn't care.
-Zombies mode was a complete joke
Whenever a WW2 game gets released, the devs often make some kind of message about "Respecting and Remembering the WW2 Veterans". Pretty sure all the WW2 veterans are rolling in their graves right now...

If I'm being extremely generous, I'd say that's why they found all those files on secret projects and such at the end of the game, thus hinting at Vanguard continuing their work. Polina made it abundantly clear that the only thing she cares about is annihilating Nazis.
But they probably didn't even think about it at all.

For what it's worth, while its underused in that game too, Commandos Strike Force multiple times gives you control of two commandos with different abilities several times, with manual switching.
Its very undercooked in that game, but at least its multiple levels, instead of only scripted switching in the final mission.

Now that Microsoft has bought Activision, maybe they will put an end to this yearly release nonsense and we can finally have cod games innovate again. And finally reduce the ridiculous prices, because holy hell Activision has to be the greediest game company in existence. Even Call Of Duty 4, a game from 2007, costs a 1000 bucks in Indian currency. I honestly disagree with the 1/5, because I would have put into a 0.5/5. Yes the core COD gameplay is still there, but the thins is why would I play Vanguard when I could play any other main title COD game like Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War. Heck, despite Battlefield V is a awful game, I rather play BFV than Vanguard.
Oh yeah, and you might want to listen to this. During the end of update cutseen from Black Ops Cold War, Butcher was speakin to the CIA about Vanguard. So he bascially told the team that the T-800 & T-1000 Terminator was in WWII, and Laser weapons was in the war as well. Wait a minute! One of the operators was Rual Menedez. Yeah, I think people in Sledgehammer were smoke good crap in the studio.
You didn‘t mention in the video about a Submachine Gun version of the F2000, which the F2000 was developed around 1999. You can make a argument with the KSP 45 (UMP 45) in Black Ops Cold War, but Treyarch tries to make a Cold War style UMP. Plus, they made a satement that th Black Ops series wasn‘t a historical accrute and a action thriller unrealistic series. Then you go to Vanguard were it‘s clearly a modern tactical F2000, which Sledghammer said the game is 100% historical accrute.
About the attachments in the game. It was starting to became a thing since the 60‘s, and reflex sights were used in the Vietnam. Some soilders were using the Oxford Gunsight on thier XM77E2 Commandos (Prototype M4 Carbine). We also have the Singlepoint Sight, which was not a reflex sight, but they could have make it a refex sight for gameplay reasons, and it more understandable then the freakin thermal scope in a WWII game. There‘s also the Thompson Insta-Sight and the Weaver Qwik Point, all made in 1970. Plus, the Nydar Sight was not used in WWII, but it woukd make more since in the 60‘s. Keep in mind, these are all reflex sights. The MACV-SOG used M16 pistol grips as foregrips on the XM177s. The M203 Grenade Launcher was developed in 1968, and used in service in 1969. There‘s even attachable suppressors in the game as well. So they could have made a Vietnam War game, consider that Arma 3, Squads, and Red Orchrista made Vietnam War games, and there‘s not a lot of games set place in the Vietnam War. Espacially if you want to be like Treyarch and do a action thriller, there‘s stillweapons that were around in the 60‘s and early 70‘s like the MP5A3, Galil, Vz 58, G3, XM177 Commando (Prototype M4), M40A1, Rk 62, Uzi, and even the AO-62 (which is the result of the AN-94). Plus for scorestreaks (which Vanguard want to change to Killstreaks), we have the Pave Low, AC-130, Chopper Gunner, Harrier Strike as the Harrier GR. 1, and even the EMP System (Starfish Prime). They could have make a Vietnam War game, especailly being a action thriller game and less non historcial accurte.
Remember the Panzerfault issue with the reloading? There‘s also a prototype launcher called the LPG-44 also known as the RPG-1 developed in 1944. If they want to add prototype weapons, even including the T20 Garand, they could have used the RPG-1.
So far, we have so many non historcial weapons. The LF-57, KBC-2, Sa . 25, EM-1, F2000, and AA-52. So there‘s no M1 Carbine, Grease Gun, Springfield, M1919, or MAS-38. Plus, the RPD and the SKS do exist during WWII, and they didn‘t even add these weapons.
The zombies mode was a mess because Activision keeps pushing Treyarch to work on the mode, even though Treyarch was in stress at this point. They just finshed Black Ops Cold War, and they were rush in development since 2019, let alone the gobal pandemic.
What piss me off is what I saw on the Instagram post. Where is Snoop Dog, Godzilla, and King Kong showing, and the words said Historcial Accurate and it was posted on the Call of Duty page. So you know what this means? This means that Sledgehammer wanted to insaulting the history of WWII and call it the most historical game ever. This was a new low for them.
That‘s why I hate this game and Sledgehammer needs to stop making COD games!

I haven't played Vanguard, but I've seen playthroughs of this game and noticed how awfully inaccurate these historical events of every single mission are than the likes of World at War or World War II. Hell, even the ending of Call of Duty Vanguard's single-player campaign doesn't make any sense, because number one, the Red Army had already taken control of the airport in Berlin by late April 1945, two, many of those Nazi secrets wouldn't be stationed in one airplane and, three, that single aircraft would've easily get taken out by the Soviet Air Force the moment it gets off the ground! What a damn near shitty travesty of a game Vanguard really is with its insultingly awful campaign, a messy clusterfuck of a multiplayer mode, and a barely functional, bare-bones Zombies mode that it made World War II's terrible Zombies mode look amazing by comparison! I'm giving Call of Duty Vanguard 1.5/10. Thanks for reading my comment and take care.

Not sure where you're getting the idea they "ruined" MW3's multiplayer. It was pretty decent, but to be fair it was mostly just MW2 multiplayer all over again with a slightly different weapon lineup and the only significant change being the 3 types of streak systems.

    • @DachshundDogStarluck19

It's kind of silly to think people are saying MW3's multiplayer was "ruined" by Sledgehammer Games even though in reality it wasn't destroyed by said gaming company at all. I had some fun with this mode, and it was overall above average for me due to being a slightly beefier version of MW2's multiplayer with the inclusion of a 3-streak system (Assault, Support, and Deathstreaks). MW3's campaign was okay at best, and the Special Ops/Survival mode is the same thing, for me personally, to say the least. It was an overall 7/10 game for me.
