If lower level employees were worth listening to, they would be the ones in charge. They're expendable and need to be reminded of this when they go against leadership. Is it fair? Yes. They are paid to execute the policies of their employer.
Give them time. They will weed out the one's that do poor work. Musk discovered that 1/2 or 2/3 of the people at Twitter were expendable.

Yeah my local paper lost me decades ago. I always laugh and shake my head when I see headlines of the media dying, print or other such. I actually still remember reading stories of the future of print media in that very news paper and how it was bleak. They didn't realize they would hasten their own fate through ideology.

My father and I were loyal Washington Post customers for decades. I grew up learning to read using this paper. We were liberals who did not like Donald Trump, but after 2016 the all out war against Trump from the Post shocked us. We cancelled our subscription and never went back, it wasn't a newspaper anymore.

Common sense is not very common anymore. Pie in the sky is much more important than having your feet firmly planted on the ground for the diversity crowd. Reach for the sky not try to float up into the sky. The staff at WaPo should consider having a JOB is better than all the diversity in the world. Continued diversity will be the end of the WaPo because diversity does not necessarily mean success. Without success diversity does not achieve anything. Diversity and success cool but diversity without success is not cool. The best candidate is what every organization needs and no arbitrary hiring quotas.

This reminds me of an experience I had in the 1990s. I was an American journalist on an exchange program to the Berliner Zeitung, a newspaper in Berlin. It had been the top paper of East Berlin, but was hemmoraging market share to the West Berlin papers after the fall of the wall. I was there when they finally brought in a Western editor, and he had a staff meeting and starts talking about the changes, how reporters were supposed to get out there and look for stories. The old East German reporters were confused, because they still expected the government to feed them stories. They were like helpless babies afraid to actually get dirt on their shoes by stepping outside the office.

In Germany they has police running around in the mountains and forest giving fines the people walking alone with no people for miles for not wearing mask... Also Germany locked your car down not allowing you to drive on the basis what district your car was first bought, if your car was from a district with registereded coward19 you could not drive that car...
All over the world they imposed similar idiotic rules, it was really a test to see how stupid and gullible and complaint people was, and most failed terribly...
And then there's the cloth mask which is about as effective against viruses as is a chain-link fence at keeping mosquitos out.
And all of the plexiglass hung up between customers and employees, so stupid. Talk about germ collectors! Oh and grocery stores that made the aisles one-way. People do realize that air moves, right?!
The mystery for me was why health workers could not interface with the public but supermarket workers were deemed to have special powers
