    Aaah pregnancies ! A minefield of emotions. We tried but never went the IVF route. Decided to leave it to the universe. Never did manage. There are so many children in the world needing love and a home we felt that was a good thing to do. Adopted 2. They turned out lovely people and one has given me two grandchildren. My dear friend had two children both of whom married and both decided with their spouses they were not going to have children at all. So friend will never be a grandmother and she is fine with that. What will be .......etc. Don't stress. ❤❤

    I remember when Hannah Witton was considering rectum removal surgery, her doctors told her to "complete her family" as the surgery can cause infertility and "they don't know why". I've always found that really interesting. Why don't they know?!

    • @AccidentallyOnPurpose
      @AccidentallyOnPurpose 11 месяцев назад +11

      @@wanya_telbornThe rectum, although near the vagina, still isn't part of the uterus. The uterus is where pregnancy happens. Scar tissue can happen but it would not 100% eliminate fertility.

    • @AccidentallyOnPurpose
      @AccidentallyOnPurpose 11 месяцев назад +8

      It's because the removal of the rectum can cause scar tissue that can sometimes cause adhesive bands around the fallopian tubes, decreasing fertility. Usually it doesn't eliminate it though, and if one fallopian tube gets obstructed both ovaries can actually ovulate into one tube.

    My former husband came with two kids and one in the oven that did not save a failing marriage. I had been told I could not have children so I assumed that with my history, and after the doctor told me to forget about, it I just fell for the kids as much as the man. They were precious! I loved them! Then I stopped taking the pills that helped my insides mature and surprise! I got pregnant instantly. All this is to say I felt no difference between the three little ones I got to love every other weekend and every other holiday and the ones I carried to term. Once you change a diaper and a kid throws up on you, they are yours. Once the kid rus to you with a boo boo, they are yours. Once they lie and say the other kid did, it they are yours. Once you have had a kid come home from school with lice they are UGH yours for real. And when they marry they are still yours. All of them. The part time ones and the ones you can't get away from when they get obnoxious and adolescent. They are yours. Now they are in theirv50s and 60s and they are still all mine and so I am telling you that the nausea of pregnancy. The heartburn, losing control of my bladder and labor and delivery were not significant when it comes to mothering.
    You love your dogs. They get sick once in a while. You take them to the vet. They are yours and you love them. Multiply that by 100 and that is how you will feel about any baby or child that you live with and are responsible for. You just give away your heart and life is never the same again.
    It's exhausting. It's fun, painful. unceasing and so damned worth it!
    However you come to mothering you will dither, worry, laugh, cry and wonder on occasion why you let yourself in for the mess and noise. Silence will be a luxury. But you can't give them away. You don't want to let them go. You are a mother and you will do well. You are just made for it, Maggie. But you are going to need some help. You get tired a bit more easily than some people. So plan on some help. You will need it. I had IBS and boy did I need help plenty of times!

    I have PCOS and have 2 boys. It really is a roll of the dice. Raw Beauty Kristi has PCOS, went through all the infertility treatments, got comfortable with not having children, and then found herself pregnant. Mary Frey and her husband decided to adopt, and now they're also fostering an infant. I know you're having some really challenging feelings about all this, but I also know that you two are going to make fabulous parents however the child/ren come into your lives. It was so random in how long it took us to conceive each baby. Our 4th it took a whole 3 years actively trying to get pregnant, No reason; nothing wrong. All just wasn't connecting each month even though we were actively trying, testing ovulation, and I have always had regular cycles. Then just two months after having him, we conceived twins naturally. Conception is so random. My good friend went through 15 years actively trying, including two surgeries and 3 IVF attempts to no avail. Then ended up adopting and the week after they brought home their adopted newborn baby, they found out they were naturally pregnant. They now have 2 girls 7 months apart in age.

    No rambling at all, everything made perfect sense. All the testing including genetics is valid and very astute of your doctors to get it all done before embarking on the future. None of us have a 100% perfect genetics. People have spoke about that in the past and those quests never ended well. While fertility testing and treatments are not in my personal path as of this date, I would be very interested to hear whatever Maggie and Zak feel comfortable sharing. Hi Maggie, I'd like to send you lots of encouragement! Both myself and my husband have had Crohn's and got our surgeries before starting a family. My doctor said it would be better to do it before proctocolectomy but it just felt impossible with the symptom impact I experienced. I've never regret that decision. I have had adhesions and went through two miscarriages on our journey but our children are healthy and happy, contrary to what other people said hearing about our family decisions. Many people with other health problems decide to have kids and it doesn't bother anyone. IBD is nowadays an in most cases manageable disease. Pregnancy with IBD can be harsh though, I had to go through some hurdles due to IBD and prior surgeries, but it's all manageable when you have great midwife, doctors and dietician on board with you! Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys and please reach out if you have any questions, I would love to support you!❤❤❤

    You have every reason to have testing and get fertility help because it's right for you. I have had Crohn's since age seven. My first child I went and saw an ob to help prepare for trying and was put on low doses of meds to keep the Crohn's in check. Got pregnant in ten minutes. Second one....no luck for a year. At that point I saw ob and wasn't willing to do fertility meds...fear of multiples!...and after a year and kind of giving up I got pregnant. I believe from my story and many others that there are times in life we are more fertile than others. Having said that my second pregnancy sent the Crohn's crazy And i weighed 85 lbs at 5 mos along. He was only four and a half lbs but healthy and fine! I believe you too will get there and adoption is just as perfect as the other way!❤

    Hi Maggie, What you are doing is so worth the effort. The more you learn the better patient you become. Knowledge is power to advocate for yourself. Gluten Sensitivity was only talked about a mere decade ago. My daughter was very sick from gluten when she was 9 and lost a lot of weight and ended up in the hospital. No diagnosis but strongly suggested Anorexia. That was a stab in the dark and wrong. When she was in college she started a gluten free diet and became well. She thought all people had stomach aches after eating!!! She is healthy now and she and her husband have 4 adorable children . My point is that medicine is advancing and it is so sad that you had to go through your early years without a diagnosis. I feel that you and Zack will be successful. A child of yours has no greater chance of inheriting your condition than an adopted child would , I think ....
    Love to hear how you are doing, Liz

    First - best of luck on your journey!!
    Second - just a thought re: genetic component of Crohn’s and having kids… My mom has Crohn’s (and Graves, HT, and numerous allergies) as did one of her sisters - also one brother with UC and another brother who was very ill but never diagnosed. None of them were diagnosed until well into adulthood (due to lack of medical knowledge about the conditions). Both of my sisters have Crohn’s, and I don’t - but I have other serious auto-immune issues and my son appears to be on the same track. No one knew about these conditions at the times of conception (across 3+ generations - with what we know now, this likely went back at least to my great-grandmother). Add to that the ‘genetic lottery’… basically unless a severe condition is *guaranteed* to be passed on, it seems like a moot point. If experiencing pregnancy as a part of your journey to expanding your family is something you want to do and are physically able to, then go for it!! 😊
    Also with that said - if you do conceive, in addition to Crohn’s, just keep an eye out for other AI-related issues, as AI can manifest in so many and varied ways, not just in the form of disease that a parent has.
    Thank you for sharing your journey so openly. 😊

    Maggie, I’ve written on your wall before. I am also an RN, worked critical care many years. I had complex fertility issues. God blessed me with one child and she is “perfect”.😂
    But my comment is about the HSG. Surely your physician told you this.
    Many women have some sort of a little pop when they do the test and then the fallopian tubes are more patent... After that test, Clomid is one of the old standbys. I don’t know if it’s used anymore because my experience was years back. The test is painful. They do insert a catheter through your cervix, and clamp your cervix while they instill radio-opaque fluid… you are under fluoroscopy as the visualizing take images of the flow within your uterus and fallopian tubes. I can assure you the discomfort is brief. And you may have cramps for a while, but nothing you haven’t demonstrated the capacity to cope with!
    Down the line, they may wish to do several other tests, including hysteroscopy, uterine lining biopsy.
    Such a blessing, and praying for you, as you seek the Lord’s will on this!
    If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. I have been through the gamut. I have EDS and an ileostomy and and and and and you know how rare diseases go. You have one; you have much more than one in all likelihood.

    You and Zak are very wise to pursue this now, as you will have more time for any needed treatments. Also, if you can afford it (and your insurance may cover some of it), consider Chinese medicine (e.g., acupuncture and herbs) if you can find a practitioner who trained in China. And had so much scar tissue from the first surgery that it had pulled my bladder up and my small intestine down..

    I don't know how likely it is but it is possible that the saline sonogram can unblock a blockage, from what I've been told. My disability is one that can be passed on genetically when one or both parents has it. It's also possible to randomly happen, neither of my parents did, but there was a cousin of mine that did. All that to say, I'm beyond having a child at this point but always wanted to. The main reasons for not really pursuing it were the way society looks at disability and I down right would NEVER put a child through what I went through medically or face in interactions with people.

    I'm concerned about your scar with pregnancy. How much can your abdomen stretch? That really concerned me about you and Zac may have already discussed this already. I just hope your dreams come true and you can be happy Maggie again.

      I actually had this examined while I went through pelvic floor therapy - we tested my abdominal wall strength and my PFT was surprised at how the muscles seemed to stay together and had strength. She also had me do scar massage to soften it a bit. Obviously it is something I will have to keep an eye on, but it didn't seem too concerning to her!

    I had an ectopic pregnancy, the Dr. Said I had so much scar tissue on the remaining tube that he removed. He said I wouldn't be able to get pregnant. 4 years later I had my son. The Dr. Had me taking folic acid. I'm not sure it helped, but I had Jed.

    Are to having a hysterosalpingogram? Everyone is different. I found it so painful i insisted on abandoning the procedure. Actually, my husband quietly made the doctor absndon it because he was ignoring me. I live with chronic pain and i could not take this. Had it done later under GA. Just some extra info, i know you believe in informed consent

    In Australia and I few other countries they are trailing a new form of IVF where the person with the uterus only needs a few injections far less than regular IVF. This could be an option for you to research?

    I hope you're gonna have kids whether you get pregrant or adopt. Just now that embryo adoption is also a thing in the USA. It could be something that you might consider down the road. There are a lot of legal stuff that goes into it, but I think it is worth looking into that. Good luck. ;)

    Until Zach's tests come back, you can't rule that out for sure. Maybe his tests did come back though. I might have missed that! Yep healthy parents have children with illnesses all the time, so just because you have an illness or something wrong doesn't mean they will get it too! That definitely isn't a reason to not have children if you are able to care for them. I'm too sick to care for a child, so I don't think I'll be having a family. Good luck to you both.

    A lot of women tend to get pregnant after the HSG test so that may happen to you. I've had an HSG and for me, it just felt like bad period cramps that lasted for a few seconds at a time. I hope it's not so bad for you as well!

    • @robinmiller2002

      Yes, the "clear out those cobwebs" with the HSG. So many women get pregnant within the 1-4 months the cycle after!

    I wonder if they can put a saline implant in behind your uterus to keep it up right? It could be you aren't becoming pregnant because of your uterus tilting backwards and it maybe causing the fallopian tube to close off and not allow the egg to move forward.
