  • Here's an easy ripple blanket stitch perfect for beginners or for anyone that wants a stress free blanket project to work on. This is using an adaptation of a popular fan and feather stitch using double crochets only (US terms -- UK conversion further below) Hope you enjoy it as much as I am!

    For my personal project I am making a 3 x 4 ft blanket (136 chns ) using Loops & Threads Yarn:
    Creme Cotton
    www.jdoqocy.com/click-1002162...
    Colors:
    Med 4 weight (324 yards in each skein)
    (1) Pastel Pink
    (1) Rose Sands
    (1)Cream
    (1)Oceans Celadon
    (1)Deep Celadon
    (1) Ice Blue
    It looks like I'm going to need 6 skeins (in total) to complete this. To determine my yardage, I worked up one complete ripple (2 rows) in the length I want my blanket. Then, I pulled it apart and measured the yardage. I divided that into the yardage of one skein and determined I would need 5 skeins. I decided to get 6 to take into account the tails, mistakes and border.
    **********
    CROCHET US vs UK CROCHET
    Chain (chn) is the same for both
    US single (sc) = UK double crochet (dc)
    US half double (hdc) = UK half treble (htr)
    US double (dc)= UK treble (tr)
    US triple (treble) (tr) = UK double treble (dtr)
    US double triple (treble) (dtr)= UK triple treble (trtr)

    Hi everyone, I hope you enjoy this simple ripple stitch as much as I am right now. I found this gorgeous yarn this week and knew exactly what I wanted to make with it. All the details about the blanket I'm making is in the description box. This is not a stitch that you can go on autopilot with but it's so simple that you'll still find this relaxing and you'll catch mistakes very quickly. AND speaking of catching mistakes quickly-- I didn't --- I spelled "tail" wrong in one of the sections. *eye roll xx

      Oh boy, that’s really hard for me to answer since I can’t see your work and count your stitches etc.
      unfortunately, the only thing I can suggest is double check that you did the second row correctly then redo that third row again . You’re probably missing a stitch somewhere but again , it’s hard for me to know where that would be.

    I love the pattern so easy to remember stitches. But I am having a problem with the foundation row chain count. You said it is a multiple of 17 is that correct.

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  3 года назад

      Yes, multiples of 17. If you’re having issues , double check that you got your initial count correct for your turning chain (at 1:50 )

    • @bsimon6125
      @bsimon6125 3 года назад

      I am still having issues with my foundation chain. So if you are chaining (136) chains which is a multiple of (17) which chain from the hook are you putting your first dc. I am sorry for being so difficult I really like the look of the stitch and would so much like to make it work.
      Also I made the swatch from you video and it worked great. My difficulty comes when I try a longer foundation chain.

      @@bsimon6125 hi Belinda, ok let me try this tomorrow morning with your chain count and then I’ll know best how to answer you. Tell me , though, how far off are you when you get to the end of the 136? Or in other words, what is the last stitch you do on that row? Also you are remembering to add your turning chain stitches to the 136 , right?

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  3 года назад

      @@bsimon6125 I worked with your 136 chain count and it worked up correctly for me. I just can’t figure out how you are 9 stitches off. 🤔 are you remembering to do the extra chains at the beginning for your turning chain? That would give you a start number of 138-139 .
      Also, double check that you are skipping before and after your 5 dc portion .
      Sometimes it’s easy to accidentally work in the same stitch , so I would look there as well for the extra 9 you’re left with.
      Geez, I’m sorry I don’t know what else to suggest but it does work , no doubt in my mind. I have a blanket that Ive started and it turns out that it’s also 136 stitches wide.

  • @ellaj9380
    @ellaj9380 Год назад

    Hi Robin! I'm loving working on this blanket, but my side edges are slanted! I'm having no issues with having the right number of stitches in each row, my stitch pattern seems correct - any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  Год назад

      When you say slanted , in which direction? Is it getting wider on the sides or more narrow? Either way it could be a tension issue. If it’s growing on you, you might be getting more relaxed and using more yarn than you realize.
      Also, It’s pretty common that the chain is tighter than the rest of a crochet blanket which will give the appearance of a slant. To help with that , youcan create the chain in the beginning with
      A size larger hook .
      I hope that answered your issue

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  Год назад +1

      Sure, I have a couple of tips that hopefully will help.
      1. Don’t forget the extra chains at the end for the turning chain ✔️
      2. Stitch markers are your best friend. Add one in each 17th chain as you’re building your initial chain. This will help you stay on track and you can use them as a guide. Notice where your stitches land when you reach them and note that as you go along. If it’s not matching the previous time you hit a stitch marker, go back and do it again.
      3. Work on a smaller swatch like I did to do this until it works before moving on to your main project to work out all the kinks. Maybe even do row 2 before moving on to your blanket.
      4. Give your cats a kiss for me for their hard helping effort ✔️💕😻

I've frogged 3 times and keep getting 35, at end of row one ? help !

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  9 месяцев назад

      I cannot figure out how this is not adding up for you - I went back and followed the instructions and tested this morning.
      Are you seeing 34 double crochet posts? Are you getting 35 dc stitches stitches or are you counting the stitch on top and getting 35?
      If you see 34 dc posts you’re fine .
      then you can see how row 2 lines up for you. I would recommend that either way. See what happens after row two . If you can get the pattern to work then you’re good to go .

    • @adeleyoung9828
      @adeleyoung9828 9 месяцев назад

      I cant figure it out either ! I'm getting 35 DC stitches. So if I add 3 chains then I definitely put my first stitch 4 from the end ? as in the one right after my stitch marker ?
      I'll do it again - I'm sure its operator error !!!!! @@PlayHookywithMe

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  9 месяцев назад

      @@adeleyoung9828 it’s the 5th chain from the hook if you do 3 chains, yes . Maybe try it without the stitch marker ?.
      I’d also recommend doing row 2 and seeing what happens with the 35 stitches. If necessary just fudge that first row if you can get on track with the rest of the pattern.
