    Excellent tutorial!! Received my first bandsaw for Christmas. Make model airplanes and in the past did a lot of sanding to get down to the basic shapes and now, I'm learning how to use the bandsaw to get going. Bandsaw is a tabletop, 9 inch, Ryobi. Nothing fancy at all. but your tutorial sure helps!!. Thanks!

    Dan, Great video. I am showing it to 70 HS students today. Remind people not to stand to the right side of the band saw during operation, if the blade breaks it can hit the table and fly that way.

    Hi Dan, I have a Clarke three wheel band saw. I have found that the tension and tracking adjustments are interactive and so finding the 'sweet setting' is a bit of to and fro. Also despite the size capacity to re-saw the power of the motor seems to be a limiting factor. I have tried with re-sawing a four inch high cut but eventually it pulled the blade off the wheels and wrecked the blade. I have made a rocking pony from 1.5 inch plywood and it cut all the curves a treat. Colin in Northern Ireland

    • @DPShopTalk
      @DPShopTalk  7 лет назад

      +colin farrier three wheeled band saws can definitely be a challenge to set up and use. The first band saw that I ever had was a 3 wheeled model but I ended up returning it because it was impossible to adjust properly. Sounds like you've been able to get yours to work though with curved cuts.

    I have a nine inch Craftman bandsaw that is fairly old and I've never had a lot of success in setting it up and using. I think your video will help me a lot as your explanations are easy to understand and follow. The only thing I found confusing was setting up the co-plane. Most manufacturer say that the co-plane is factory set and should not be tampered with. Also, I find that cutting softwood is fairly good but hardwood is quite a bit more difficult. Is this normal? What size of a general blade would you recommend.

    • @DPShopTalk
      @DPShopTalk  4 года назад

      There are definitely different schools of thought on co-plane. I just shared what I learned and have found works for me. Hardwood is definitely more difficult to cut through since it is more dense. I usually use a 1/2" blade in my saw for general use. It won't cut tight curves but it's very seldom that I do.

    Very good video and presentation. I have an old 9" Delta that's not being any help when it comes to drift. When you adjust the guide at an angle to compensate for drift, do you have to adjust again for different blades and wood types etc.? If anyone can answer would be highly appreciated. Thx.

    • @DPShopTalk
      @DPShopTalk  7 лет назад +1

      +AHMED SALEH good question. You can usually tell when a blade is very dull if the saw is struggling more to make the cut or if the cut is burning from excess heat. If you have a good magnifier or eye loup you can also do a close inspection of the teeth to see how sharp they are. Usually I tell by the feel when I'm cutting if the blade is getting too dull.

Really enjoyed your video - subscribed and liked - I have a Skil 3386 that I haven't used for a while because it needed new wheel tires (it takes the ones that have the slotted tires) I finally found a place that sells them and put them on and am having a problem with the blade moving forwards and backwards on the tire - it's moving about 3/8" on the bottom wheel and about 1/8" on the top wheel. Not sure what I need to do - any suggestions???

    researching over 40 years of books written by seasoned professionals and masters suggest the complete opposite. first, the gullet should be centered and not he entire saw. Next they all highly recommend not even attempting coplanning the bandsaw wheels as do all bandsaw manufactures. Perhaps you should consider watching Alex Snograss, he is also a bandsaw professional well worth listening to..

    Hey Dan, just found you on Instagram. Cool channel! My band saw has been cutting bad for a while and I've tried all kinds of things. It stalls very easily, cuts slow, and gives a rough cut. The next thing I was gonna try is replacing the drive belt. Do you think a loose drive belt could be the culprit? Thanked!

    • @DPShopTalk
      @DPShopTalk  8 лет назад

      +A Guy Doing Stuff what size motor is on your band saw and what make and model is it? It sounds like the drive belt or the drive belt tension could definitely be an issue. If you're going to replace the belt I would recommend going with link belt. That's what I use on my band saw and I replaced the original belt with it. Reduces vibration and increases power transmission.

      to cut metal you need to use a blade for metal and also lower the speed of the blade, not all bandsaw can lower the speed.
