    The point of the Pycelle scene with the prostitute is that he's in fact in much better shape - both physically and mentally - than he seems. At the end of the scene when he gets his clothes on he also affects a hunch and starts shuffling like an old man, even though we just saw that he was actually quite limber. Everyone in King's Landing is working an angle.

      @@akse Ned said to Yoren, "Baelor." Here's some background on him.
      Baelor Targaryen, also known as Baelor the Blessed, was a member of House Targaryen and ruled as the king of Westeros. He ascended to the Iron Throne after the death of his uncle, King Daeron II Targaryen. Baelor was known for his deep religious devotion to the Faith of the Seven, and he took several extreme measures to demonstrate his piety.
      One of the most notable events associated with Baelor is the construction of the Great Sept of Baelor in King's Landing, which is a massive religious structure dedicated to the Faith of the Seven. Baelor also organized the Great Council of 233 AC, wherein he sought to ensure a peaceful succession by decreeing that his younger sister, Daena, would not be allowed to inherit the throne.
      Baelor's reign was marked by his strict adherence to the tenets of the Faith, often to the detriment of political and strategic considerations. His policies and decisions had a profound impact on the history of Westeros, and his reign is often remembered for its religious fervor and the construction of the Great Sept of Baelor in King's Landing.

    15:00 about Jon's relationship with his family, he didn't leave Winterfell because he didn't love them, in fact, he did, he loved his family very much, he left because as a bastard he felt like his place wasn't in Winterfell, he had no important role there and he always was in Robb's shadow. Bastards were poorly treated, no matter the title of their father, so Jon wanted to join the Night's Watch because he thought that he would've been of good use there and because that was the only place where titles and blood didn't matter, they were all equal. And as a side note, in the books, Jon and Arya's bond was very strong, they were described as being the only Stark children with Stark features, the rest of them looked more like Tullys (Catelyn's side). But Jon got along with his other brothers too, except Sansa, because she was strongly influenced by her mother's behaviour towards him, so she wasn't very fond of Jon, they barely spoke with each other.

    "Fire and Blood" are the words for the House Targaryen.
    Arya is not actually heading for the Wall but is heading in its direction. Keep in mind that the route north on the King's Road goes through Winterfell, meaning she will be dropped off there. But it's a 1,000 leagues (3,000 miles - 1 league = 3 miles) from King's Landing to the Wall. A lot can happen before reaching Winterfell.

    About Jon Snow going to the wall... If you look at real history you can find that a lot of 'second sons' and bastards go some military or religious way in their life since first sons inherit the title and feuds. They're still trained and educated as the best among nobles (each 'first son' can still die before producing his own heir) but as soon as new feudal has established his own family there's no real place for those 'second sons' as they don't have anything to hold on to. And quite a lot of military leaders back in the days were such 'second sons taking their black', though history could always become quite quirky and their own sons and grandsons could've become great lords or even kings (one could remember great cardinal Richelieu as one of such 'second sons').
    So in this story you can actually find quite a few references to the real history too. Ned's brother Benjen joins Night's Watch being one of such nobles without inheritance. Ned's son Bran is dreaming about becoming a kingsguard from the beginning as he's also a 'second son' after Robb. Sam Tarly is actually the 'first son' who's pushed to join the Night's Watch in order to take away any titles and lands from him for another Tarly heir.
    So all in all Jon joining the Night's Watch is very rational and logical thing for these times and has quite a background.

      Sad thing is legends lose their 'luster' over time and the memories of dangers beyond the wall have all but faded leaving the Night's Watch in a very poor position for which they were established and without proper help from the realms of men.

    27:20 I felt the same way as you did, yes, I understood that there were all of these fantastical elements going on that were very dangerous and very historical but at the same time I could not get over the fact that I felt like somebody just cut my dad’s head off!
    I was still very much only really invested in the main plotline, and the Stark family 😂

    The last lines of the first book always give me chills, and Ms. October alluded to it at the end of this episode:
    "As Daenerys Targaryen rose to her feet, her black hissed, pale smoke venting from its mouth and nostrils.The other two pulled away from her breasts and added their voices to the call, translucent wings unfolding and stirring the air, and for the first time in hundreds of years, the night came alive with the music of dragons."
    What a fantastic ending, and a delicious setup for what's to come. Can't wait to watch you guys experience it!

    blood of my blood is what the Khal's blooriders (his elite crew) say to him as an oath, so Jorah saying it to Dany it just means his fealty to her. The witch told us only death can pay for life - and Dany definitely sacrificed herself, her Khal and the witch -- 3 deaths for 3 lives. She told her right at the end, she didn't want her screams - only her life. But the blood of my blood thing truly is not related to the sacrifice at all

    One thing to remember about this show. It's a SLOW burn. In other words don't expect all your questions to be answered one episode later. This show builds to it's rewards and reveal pieces to the puzzle little by little. Almost every sentence is important because they are giving you clues to things that will happen manys seasons later. Also, many of the characters are shades of gray. You will find yourself hating some of them at one point then actually liking them later. And the other way around. the characters also develop and grow as the show does. And you have maybe not even met half of the characters yet.
    Think of this show as like Lord of the Rings. Both are considered High Fantasy. High Fantasy tends to have some magic but it's done in a very believable way. And it's not the major focus.

    I am really enjoying your reactions. I've read the books and watched the show countless times, but I never made the connection between the birth of the dire wolves and the birth of the dragons. Thank you so much for that excellent observation. I also loved the observation about Cercei being so narcissistic that she only wants to sleep with others with her blood. FYI: not a spoiler but Lancel is her first cousin, who is the same relationship as her parents. This was a common thing at the time. Anything but parent/child or brother/sister was free game.

    • @m3ntyb
      @m3ntyb 8 месяцев назад

      In the books, it's also said that Lancel looks the most like Jaime. And Jaime looks the most like her (emphasizing your point about her defensive narcissism).
      Unfortunately, many narcissistic individuals (up to this day and age) engage in incest, as a way of meeting their own ego. Cersei loves expressing her ego through her sexuality, and the power it brings, especially over Jaime. She is more enmeshed and manipulative with Jaime, than in love, which explains the relationship. GRRM makes no mistakes, he knows what he's representing and exposing. If anyone knows how to write characters and a story, not just for shock value, it's GRRM.

    This is for everyone... please do not feel the need to correct them on every little detail of the show/story. A lot of this stuff gets explained later and is not intended for first time viewers to understand everything immediately. Let them figure some things out on their own, please!

    • @m3ntyb
      @m3ntyb 8 месяцев назад

      I wish people would do this too. I try to only correct what they miss in a specific scenes text or subtext, that is meant to clarify on the spot, and isn't reiterated. Those things can still be missed or misinterpreted (until possibly rewatches), especially in this setting.
      I don't want to even spoil any rewatches, but idk if they would anytime soon on their own, if doing this channel, if that makes sense.
      But the spoilers are getting HEAVY and the Mod needs to amp up their game. I keep wanting to just delete it for them when I see it lol.

    The whole witch thing is to meant to make it hard to pick one side of that particular situation. Game of thrones is one of the best shows ever at never making things black and white, nobody is all good or all bad all the time, and situations are never easy decisions...In this case the witch had lost everything, and you can see her justification towards the dothraki, but Danny never did anything to her or any women, in fact she risked speaking up to save that women and others, and the witch lied to her to deceive her into killing her boy and Kal Drogo at the same time.

    20:38 The repurcussions for deserting the nights watch are that serious.
    Jeor Mormont said: "If we beheaded everyone that deserted for the night..." Meaning just for a night and return, before being caught, also meaning many attempt to desert, but come back out of fear of the repurcussions, and they can't behead everyone who doesn't want to be there, essentially, because barely anyone, except those without other ways of honorable prospects, like Jon, does.
    If Jon had actually abandoned the watch he would have been sentences to beheading.
    And the watch is just like a militia or military, which can be very cultish in it's expectations and practices. Just because they're "guarding the realms of men" from "an army of the dead", at a ice wall filled with magic, doesn't make them less just recruited soldiers tasked to protect against a foreign enemy.

    11:56 i thought it was cool you mentioned the flies because that's one of the things Dany thinks about in the book when she's summing up what life he is left with at this point. Him not killing them or swatting them away is very crushing to her.
    Jon went to the Wall because Lady Stark to Ned she wouldn't have him at Winterfell after he left for King's Landing and Ned couldn't take his bastard to court with him. Jon had already been wanting to go before then but he was supposed to go in a few years.
