@@amelialikesfrogs5778 Calvin and Eric reacting to the show is still one of my favorite reactor series I've seen. They started me on this journey of watching reactors watch GoT, about 9 years ago now.
"You lost the war the moment you married that girl." - Lord Karstark Breaking promises is definitely the theme of this season. Robb breaking his promise to the Freys, the story of Catelyn breaking her promise to the gods that she'd love Jon, the story of Jaime breaking his oath to kill the Mad King, Jon breaking his vows to the Night's Watch, and then again with Jon betraying Ygritte in this episode. I'm probably even missing a few.
In House of the Dragon which takes place a couple of centuries before GOT, someone says “There’s never been a Stark who forgot an oath.” And I thought, “But there will be one.” 😢
Having seen the show first, I remember reading ASOS the Catelyn chapter before the red wedding where she’s coming to grips with the loss of her children but moreso Arya. I actually cried, it’s the only time I did, thinking how close they would come to seeing Arya but never getting the chance to know she’s alive.
What is truly sad is the shows writers and producers screwed over Catelyn charcter arch by not telling the book story of Lady Stoneheart the Revenant embodiment of her wrath and anger. One of the coolest characters of the book, and we were robbed, more so in that Michelle Fairley would have absolutely killed it. This is not the end of Catelynn in the books....rather it is the beginning of Lady Stoneheart. That character is also the readers embodiment of our anger for the red wedding, so in way it killed off our own connection as well. I'll never understand why they made that choice. The series would have been so much better to incluide and expand on that character.
@@SargNickFurythink about a moment , they would need to kill beric dandarion for lady stoneheart, the lighting lord with his burning sword was quite famous among the fans

I believe this episode is the spark that lit the fuse of all the reaction channels to come. Folks who had read the books set up cameras to record the reactions of their friends to the TV show and the Red Wedding in particular.
It was definitely the spark that sent reactions megaviral. A lot of it was book readers recording the reaction of non-book friends and family watching the show, knowing what was coming.
I remember reactions to 2 Girls 1 Cup before GoTs, and I think there were similar reaction videos to Ned Stark's death. I'm not sure if the Red Wedding actually started reaction channels or that's just how people remember it.
@@Fangtorn There is a difference between it happening at times, and it really taking off. I think it is true that after this episode it really exploded.
42:10 That's why Roose Bolton was upset with Locke for taking Jamie's hand and abusing him. Roose understood that the deal he wanted to make with Tywin might be in jeopardy if Jamie was maimed and injured. A lot of people don't mention that letting Jamie go was a weird thing for Roose to do, but then it makes perfect sense after you realize it's because Lord Bolton was planning on betraying Robb in favor of teaming up with the Lannisters.
Jaime speaks the truth to Locke this season that the Starks can't possibly win. Stannis is defeated. Renly is gone. The Karstarks have abandoned Robb. The Tyrells and their massive army are allied with the Lannisters. Roose Bolton realized this and so turned his coat.
Consider the events happening in the North simultaneously - his bastard securing Winterfell's ruins, flying Bolton's banner over the towers and wiping the Ironborn in Moat Caitlin. In the eyes of the smallfolk lords come and go, but whoever sits there, rules the north and protects them from the raids.Roose had all his bases covered. North being already in his control, minor houses of the North alienated by Robb - all was left to secure his position amongst major houses with the Iron throne - and the deal with Freys and Lannisters, with Tullys wiped and Frey becoming most probably the next ruler of Riverlands - that secured the topmost two levels. But he simply did what he needed to in the circumstances others created, particularly Robb. Robb sent THeon to Balon which resulted in the raid on the North. Robb broke the word given to Frey. Robb killed Karstark. And finally, Robb with more than 10 000 men couldn't even hold a one prisoner that mattered. The real question is, whether Roose betrayed the North... or tried to save it from Robb.
One of the best things about the "Red Wedding" story is that it makes sense from every single angle. After it happens and you look back, it's so obvious. And it's not just the inevitable reaction to breaking a promise to a notoriously nasty Lord. It's almost necessary to clear the way for the rest of the series. You have to get rid of at least three characters who were interesting, but are at this point holding us back from fully investing in "next generation" characters like Sansa, Arya, Jon Snow, and Bran. And basically ending the Lannister vs. Stark war opens things up for the other main plot lines to take center stage. It reminds me a bit of what Stephen King did with his epic novel "The Stand." He got to a point where it was hard to see how to move forward with the cast he had built up -- so he had to "clean house" so to speak in one big event. If you know, you know. If you don't, read "The Stand." And by the way, Stephen King and George R. R. Martin are acquainted and I believe have done conversations / mutual interviews, in front of audiences, on their respective writing strategies.

One reactor asked if Gilly was dumb, believing Sam to be a wizard. Something about the way he said it was so vile. I pointed out that Craster probably didn’t educate his wives & the season 1 call back. Then never watched him again
This show forces you to pay attention, as it should. If you don't pay attention, even for a minute, your going to miss dialogue or an event that pops up again seasons later and you'll be confused lol. I made that mistake my first time watching the show.
Ah yes, welcome women of winter! Edit: Shout out to her for recognizing that Theon is literally tied up on the X like the flayed man banner. You'd be surprised how few people catch that, so that's awesome.

Let me be honest I went straight to the end. I laughed and laughed loved the blonde girl trying not to laugh at her two friends reaction. I did it for you. The middle one is so depressed is just too much i couldn’t stop laughing. Game of thrones is not for those with very soft hearts. I do not have a soft heart and I was upset for months after this. Love it.
One true thing about Game: Don't get used to any character too much. NOBODY is ever above dying. As Cersei said (to paraphrase), "In the Game of Thrones you win or die."
How quickly people realized that anyone could die when Ned died, and that there was a major power struggle in the kingdom, but quickly fell to he fairy tale love story where Robb breaks his oaths, Kills one of his bannermen leading to a major defection of one of the largest parts of his army against the advice of everyone around him, and Kat gives away their hostage that if they still had him, none of this probably would've happened. They started strong, but played the "Game" poorly.
I'll never forget watching this when it premiered on HBO. Everyone was fucking shocked, except those who had read the books of course. GRRM is a genius at making you really care about characters, and then killing them suddenly. Also, the dialogue he writes is some of the best I have ever read, now that I have read the books. His way of writing exposition is seamless.
Well, the _very_ thin silver lining to this very black cloud is that Lindsay and Ashley are officially no longer Sweet Summer Children. They have graduated to being Women Of Winter. Couple more seasons and they'll be screaming "STAB HIM AGAIN! NO, DON'T KILL HIM YET - MAKE IT LAST!" etc...
When I watched this episode with my roommate at the time we were both so mad that we decided to take out our anger on a broken chair we had on our porch. We were planning on throwing it away next trash day so we spent about 20 minutes kicking and snapping pieces of this old wooden chair lol. Crazy but we were drunk college students and being silly.
I caught the beginning of your live stream today, so I know you're a whole season ahead and this was a long time ago for you. Your utter silence for the Red Wedding was intense! For me, Michelle Fairley (Catelyn) dominated the screen and put an incredible amount of emotion into a single scream. Breathtaking. As always ladies, thank you. Your 'sweet summer child' shirts can now be retired.
So I have a theory about the Red Wedding- possibly unpopular- but it goes back to how Catelyn Stark treated Jon Snow. Robb would have known about this. When he slept with Talisa, this made him concerned about her possibly getting pregnant and not wanting any child of his to be treated the way Jon was, so he married her instead of the Frey girl. It seems to me that Catelyn is a very intelligent woman until there is emotion involved, then she makes bad decisions- arresting Tyrion, releasing Jaimie, etc.

Haven't watched yet. Just wanted to come straight to comments and register the following: Lindsay and Ashley - congratulations. Welcome to the Game of Thrones family.
In medieval times (and before), at times there were a few people inside the room on the wedding night for proof. Most of the time they would be outside the door just so they could hear it.
I've watched this series multiple times and have always gotten through this episode by keeping two thoughts in my mind: Everyone who was killed at the twins was at the pub two hours later toasting a well done episode, and how could they ever let Walder Frey be a custodian at Hogwarts?
In the books, Arya actually meets the boy she is supposed to marry at Harenhall. They actually both bicker and the boy brags that he is going to marry a princess, unknowingly referring to her and Arya laughs at him, having no idea it's her he's talking about!
In medieval times, the customs varied whether or not the people watched. Usually they would only watch them get into bed or undress, but sometimes they would watch until the end to make sure the union was sealed.
Lindsay made a great catch at the beginning about Theon! It’s a minor detail but she the clues together. Sometimes the ol’ ADHD brain kicks in and surprises you (speaking as someone with an identical brain to hers 😂).
I've been waiting for you gals to watch this episode. I kept going after season 1 my soul was crushed now after the red wedding I was like hell nahhh!!! 😂
I have been waiting on this! Lol I must admit I was critical and skeptical of you guys at the beginning But I was wrong and you keep me coming back week after week.
It’s kinda wild how Jaime said he’d have liked to attend this wedding, so he told Bolton to tell Robb that “the Lannisters send their regards”, but Jaime actually meant it genuinely, not like this.
The message was in The Bear and the Maiden Fair. When Jamie is leaving Winterfell, he tells Roose Bolton to give Rob "the Lannister's regards". And in the end Bolton gives him the death blow and tells him "the Lannister's send their regards".
1st time viewing and I can tell that the blond in the black has seen this or she’s a robot😂 she was ready ❤ mean while our sweet summer children and on the edge of the seat going thru it . Don’t worry winter is coming
Watching people watch the Red Wedding for the first time never gets old. Never. Hang on ladies...the gut-wrenching, rip-your-heart-out moments have only begun.
One fun fact, this episode is actually one of the reqsons why we have a reaction video trend. Book readers record the reaction of the show friends and recorded it in youtube
When winter comes You will not hear the lions roar Deer do not graze in the field And roses will not bloom from the meadows When winter comes You can bet there are no snakes in the sand The Kraken will freeze in the seas When winter comes and the ground begins to tremble The flayed man will begin to rot and wither When winter comes Fish will not swim in the seas Even hawks do not fly high in the sky When winter shows you what happens when it snows Even dragons' breath will not warm you inside your hall Only when you hear the wolves howling will you know that winter has come The North remembers winter is coming
The whole concept of reaction videos started with this episode; people who read the books and already knew what was coming would film their Sweet Summer Children friends for their reactions...
But Jaime had idea what was going to happen. In the books, Bolton said “Jaime Lannister sends his regards” and this leads Lady Stoneheart to want vengeance against Jaime even though he was unaware of what would happen at the wedding.

Bruuuutal. One of the craziest scenes in the show. Question for you guys, who's the artist that does your youtube banner?
Stefani made it ☺️
In the books, Arya actually meets the boy she is supposed to marry at Harenhall. They actually both bicker and the boy brags that he is going to marry a princess, unknowingly referring to her and Arya laughs at him, having no idea it's her he's talking about!
I still remember the feeling when i finished reading this part in the books. My condolences!
Hah hah hah hah. We come for your TEARS
In medieval times, the customs varied whether or not the people watched. Usually they would only watch them get into bed or undress, but sometimes they would watch until the end to make sure the union was sealed.
Ashley definitely needs to see a therapist now 😂
Don’t we all!!!
Lindsay made a great catch at the beginning about Theon! It’s a minor detail but she the clues together. Sometimes the ol’ ADHD brain kicks in and surprises you (speaking as someone with an identical brain to hers 😂).
That look of pure shock and hopelessness in the end.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Just keep watching, the North Remembers!
I've been waiting for you gals to watch this episode.
I kept going after season 1 my soul was crushed now after the red wedding I was like hell nahhh!!! 😂

I must admit I was critical and skeptical of you guys at the beginning But I was wrong and you keep me coming back week after week.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Did you notice Will Campion, the drummer with Coldplay, was in the wedding band in the balcony of the wedding hall?
Im really excited for you guys to catch up and watch hotd!
It’s kinda wild how Jaime said he’d have liked to attend this wedding, so he told Bolton to tell Robb that “the Lannisters send their regards”, but Jaime actually meant it genuinely, not like this.
Genuinely? I think he meant it sarcastically, but without the knowledge that this would happen.
The message was in The Bear and the Maiden Fair. When Jamie is leaving Winterfell, he tells Roose Bolton to give Rob "the Lannister's regards". And in the end Bolton gives him the death blow and tells him "the Lannister's send their regards".
Welcome to winter. Winter is here!
🥶
HYPE! We're here.
HYPE!!!
What an amazingly satisfying and happy episode:)
uhhh, it's this time of the year again...
cheers to the rains of castamere
Ashley's silence speaks so loud. Winter is finally here.
Cats wail at the end... ooof. Its not often you see a character die before being killed
1st time viewing and I can tell that the blond in the black has seen this or she’s a robot😂 she was ready ❤ mean while our sweet summer children and on the edge of the seat going thru it . Don’t worry winter is coming
Yup I'm their GOT guide haha
Watching people watch the Red Wedding for the first time never gets old. Never. Hang on ladies...the gut-wrenching, rip-your-heart-out moments have only begun.
One fun fact, this episode is actually one of the reqsons why we have a reaction video trend. Book readers record the reaction of the show friends and recorded it in youtube
I love your guys reaction!!!! So excited for this episode 😊
💕
So first time I saw this episode it was two weeks before I could watch another episode.
When winter comes
You will not hear the lions roar
Deer do not graze in the field
And roses will not bloom from the meadows
When winter comes
You can bet there are no snakes in the sand
The Kraken will freeze in the seas
When winter comes and the ground begins to tremble
The flayed man will begin to rot and wither
When winter comes
Fish will not swim in the seas
Even hawks do not fly high in the sky
When winter shows you what happens when it snows
Even dragons' breath will not warm you inside your hall
Only when you hear the wolves howling will you know that winter has come
The North remembers
winter is coming
“A knife through your eye and out the back of your skull” 🤯🤫
The whole concept of reaction videos started with this episode; people who read the books and already knew what was coming would film their Sweet Summer Children friends for their reactions...
R.I.P. Catelyn, Robb, Talisa, baby Eddard, and Grey Wind.
You will be missed.
🌹⚔️🌹⚔️🌹⚔️🌹
38:52 I can’t even drink my Gatorade lol
I don’t remember wilder Frey being so hilarious😂
He’s actually so funny
"Cheers to The Rains of Castamere." Oh Ashley...
Enjoyed your reactions. Welcome to Winter.
Thank you! 😊
Very very good !!! For this we love GOT ☺️ your face Stefani 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Remember: Jaime said those words "The Lannister's sent their regards"
But Jaime had idea what was going to happen. In the books, Bolton said “Jaime Lannister sends his regards” and this leads Lady Stoneheart to want vengeance against Jaime even though he was unaware of what would happen at the wedding.
