Hi, thank you so much for such an insightful review! I wanted to ask you, how would you compare the results you obtain with respect to waxing? I'm wondering if this makes the skin smoother (in terms of eliminating the visible hair bulbs that shaving causes) or if it's better to stay with waxing for that reason. I'm afraid that if I shave in order to use the device, I'll get the bumpy follicles & skin I usually get after shaving (which I don't get after waxing)
Hi. So glad you found the video helpful! I am too big a coward to wax so I only really shaved before using the device, but if you prefer waxing it's absolutely fine to continue with that you just need to leave 24 to 48 hours between waxing and using the IPL device to allow a small amount of hair to start growing back in the follicle.
Hi Tereza. Glad you found this helpful. Because I try out a lot of different products for the channel I moved on to a laser device after using this for six months. However, by that stage I was just maintaining my IPL results so I wouldn’t have expected any significant change from this point.

Hello, thank you for the insightful video. I had a question, so I just used to the device today for the first time and I noticed a few marks appearing on the light exit window on the device. Is that normal? To get marks right after the first use?
I was doing it professionally but then the center where I was doing closed due to the financial crisis corona brought. Waxing is too painful for me, my hair was always super thick and I thought of buyung a home device but i was with one step backward because i didnt wanted to throw away money and ending up not having results. I bought the Philips Lumea 8000 here in Germany for 330 euros after seeing this video. Im excited to start this. Also an advice, like you said the hair must be freshly shaved, make sure you shave it really well because one time I had a small stump and after the IPL machine caught that small stump I jumped off the table 😂😂😂 it hurts like hell. Sure professional IPL machines are more powerful and you will get results a lot faster but if we think about the money we spend every time we go there in only 1 year we can buy 2 or 3 of these devices.
I just started using it a week ago and I did noticed the head got over heated and didn't stopped itself so I ended up burning my legs.. It was painful and too hot to touch so I stopped using it. I don't personally like it because it will takes hours to get full legs and arms done...overall its not a practical device. I would not recommend it for sensitive skin users.

Hi can u please tell me is it safe to use ipl on face without glasses on because i have seen so many videos where professional people in clinics wear glasses
Hello you said it becomes less efficient over 6 months does that mean it will completely stop working like maybe after a year? That means buying it is not very lucrative since you wont be getting your moneys worth...unless it keeps working just less than when you first buy it
So I got it and I did the first treatment and in few days it’s time for the second one.. can I use it a day or 2 before the 2 weeks mark?? Or will that mess things up ?
Could I epilate before lasering because I am everyone say shave and could you give us an update on your maintenance please because I’ve just got one and there’s not many up-to-date videos thank you
Hi. If you epilate then you should wait 24 hours so that you have a little hair (below the surface of your skin) to treat. I’ve included an update on my results in this comparison video ruclips.net/video/tRve3vcpHo8/видео.html
Hi, do you or anyone reading this know why a hair removal ipl device would not work to remove thread veins (spider veins) from the skin if the if the vein is at the same depth in the skin as the hair root? Ipl is used to remove spider veins but is very expensive for a set of treatments. One of these devices feels like it should do the same thing? Or am I completely wrong? Any insight would be greatly appreciated 🙏
I’ve heard this is the treatment they use when removing thread veins clinically. I want this device for hair and hopefully for my veins, too. I’m only 20 and have so many thread veins
Hi. I’ve only used the Lumea Advanced model, but this guide from Philips should help www.philips.co.uk/c-f/XC000003324/is-philips-lumea-suitable-for-all-skin-and-hair-types
I finished my program and now the app says I can take 6 moth pause. What I don't get is - what I do after those 6moths? Re-start treatment from 0 again? Or if hair is not as much back just maintenance? Or I should do maintenance still even now that scheduled program is over? Cause in my instructions it says nothing about it.
Yes, so many manufacturers just leave you to figure out how to use their devices long term. I still do maintenance around every six weeks and might do more often than that if I see a patch of growth popping up. Sometimes I let it slip for a couple of months.
Hello! Did your device suddenly started to blink? The numbers from 1 to 5 started to blink/flash all of them, all at once? Is it broken? Does anyone else have this problem? Thank you
Hi. I didn’t notice them taking much longer. I thought the thicker darker hairs were easier to treat - it’s the lighter finer hair on my legs that’s more resistant
@@thehonestchannel Thank you for answering! Very helpful, especially in hearing the opposite happens with other IPL devices. Proves Lumea is the way to go.
You just feel a warm burst. I wouldn't describe it as painful - although it can nip a little if you haven't shaved your hair so it's always best to do that.
It will likely vary from person to person. I hardly need to use the device at all under my arms now, but I’m doing maintenance treatments monthly on my legs and bikini area to maintain results. I expect over time that I’ll be able to leave the gap between treatments longer and longer.
Thank you! And yes it is okay to use the Lumea on tanned skin. I’ve included a link to Philips’ skin and hair tone suitability chart in the video description so it would be worth having a look.
it doenst work on my bikini area at all. The "body-head" lights up red, so it wont give off a flash. The "facial-head" doens't light up red and will give off a flash, but with no results. I've got light skin and dark hair... so yeah that's a bit of a bummer. Works great on the legs and armpits though.
Hmm, that’s frustrating. Finer facial hair is definitely trickier to treat, but you should be able to use it on you bikini line provided it’s not on the genital area.
Hi, seeing as you have posted this 3 months ago. I was wondering if your stance on this product is still the same? Are the hairs are growing back a lot since then? have you had to do any maintenance touch ups? Please let me know! Thank you
Hi. I still have virtually no under arm hair which is amazing. I haven’t done as much maintenance as I should. I think once a month would be about right but I’ve probably done it once in the last two months. That means there’s a bit more hair on my legs than when I was doing this regularly, but it is still radically reduced.

Hi Karen. Really most of the gains are made within the first few months of using this device and then you move into maintaining the results. I’m roughly where I was when I filmed my final verdict - virtually no hair under my arms and just a little hair on my legs. I’m using the device around every 6 weeks now.
I suspect results will vary from person to person. Some hair will never grow back but Philips say it’s likely you will have to do some maintenance treatments long term
I’ve noticed IPL can be used for skin rejuvenation. It’s an interesting thought and I’ll look into it a bit more closely. There’s very limited information on whether you can use an at-home hair removal device for skin rejuvenation buy I’ll see what I can find out. : )

I’ve heard this is the treatment they use when removing thread veins clinically. I want this device for hair and hopefully for my veins, too. I’m only 20 and have so many thread veins
Should i buy this for myself ? Ive PCOs wanted to use this for my face
I can only share my own experience which was positive. I’ve just reviewed the Ulike IPL device and found it even more effective.
@@thehonestchannel where can I watch that video?
I hv brown skin tone so could u plz tell Which is best prestige or advance ?
Hi. I’ve only used the Lumea Advanced model, but this guide from Philips should help www.philips.co.uk/c-f/XC000003324/is-philips-lumea-suitable-for-all-skin-and-hair-types
Thank you so much and lots of love mam ✌️
@@deepikajangre6359 And to you 🙏
Can you use hair removal cream instead of shaving?
Yes, it’s just the principle of shortening the hair on the surface that matters so that’s fine : )
I want to buy one what is the best Philipps hair removel pliz
The model featured in this video is the only one I’ve tried, and I was pleased with the results
Hello
do I have to use it every 2 weeks, plz ??
Every two weeks at first, yes.
Well done 👍 thank you 😁🌟👌
Thank you!
Thank you
That happens when it overheats so you need to switch it off and let it cool down before starting again.
Thank you for your video! Did you notice your underarms and/or bikini line took longer?
Proves Lumea is the way to go.
how painful is it ? is there a cooling system built in or model that is nearly panfree?
You just feel a warm burst. I wouldn't describe it as painful - although it can nip a little if you haven't shaved your hair so it's always best to do that.
How many maintainance procedures do you need,it says 8 on the insttuctions, what happens after does the result get permanent?
It will likely vary from person to person. I hardly need to use the device at all under my arms now, but I’m doing maintenance treatments monthly on my legs and bikini area to maintain results. I expect over time that I’ll be able to leave the gap between treatments longer and longer.
hello, i love your videos so much and wanted to ask you something. is it okay to use this device on tanned skin? thank you, have a great day!
Thank you! And yes it is okay to use the Lumea on tanned skin. I’ve included a link to Philips’ skin and hair tone suitability chart in the video description so it would be worth having a look.
Hi clare, could you please share the number of flashes the device has.
I believe it’s 250,000 lamp flashes
it doenst work on my bikini area at all.
Thank you!!
You’re welcome!
Hi, will this work on hair at the back? Thank you!
It works well on darker hair pretty much anywhere on the body. I’ve treated my husband’s back with it
Hi, seeing as you have posted this 3 months ago.
@@thehonestchannel thank you so much! Really appreciate it.
@@oliviabasile8381 You’re welcome!
Hi i just wanna ask about the warranty of the device if you buy it in amazon? I live in Ireland. Thanks.
Hi. Yes, if you're buying a new Philips device on Amazon it should be covered as set out in their responses to customers below:
Q: Is there warranty for this item ?
A: Hi there, thanks for your question.
Unless otherwise indicated, our products have a warranty period of 24 months.
I hope that helps, but please know that my colleagues and I are happy to discuss any additional questions with you. You can get in touch via Facebook (philips.to/UKFBMessenger), Twitter (philips.to/UKCareTwitter) or phone (philips.to/UKContact).
Cheers, Maria. see less

Q: Does its cover international warranty of this product?
A: Hi there, most of our products have a two-year international warranty! That includes the Lumea as well. But please do take into account that not every customer support will be able to assist you in the same way - as there are quite some countries in which the Lumea simply isn't sold or is available. It might be that postage will be quite expensive, or that an alternative solution needs to be found. Cheers, Will see less

@@thehonestchannel thank you for replying. Im still canvassing where to buy, so far the cheapest is 350 euro.

Hi. Is yours the same model as mine?
Can you use it full body?
Can this device cause visible capillaries and veins in the body? Thank you for the information!
I can only speak from my own experience, and I haven’t noticed anything like that.
@@thehonestchannel Thanks for the response!
Been using it for almost 6 months and there is no difference in my hair growth 😭😭
That’s such a shame. Do you have a lighter hair colour?
Is this the last one ?
Yes, though I have since posted a comparison video between this device and the Tria laser which you may find helpful ruclips.net/video/tRve3vcpHo8/видео.html
Can you go over the same area more than once? I mean by mistake
Yes, I do that all the time and it’s no problem.
@@thehonestchannel can u use depilatory creams like veet instead of shaving? Please respond
@@fatimahjavaid9249 Hi. Yes, that’s also fine - you just want to take the hair to its shortest point either through shaving or a cream is fine.
Surely an IPL device would work on spider veins aswell?
That’s not something I know enough about to comment on. Sorry.
My hair is very thick and long, i want to make them thin. Is it possible to make hair thin from IPL? I don’t want to remove permanently my hair just want to make hair thin and light
This is a hair removal device, so it only works as discussed in the review
Sista is Philips lumea BRI921 IS RECHARGABLE?
Hi. It plugs in to an electric socket so it’s not cable-free/rechargeable.
@@thehonestchannel thank u
Can I use this in Brazilian area please?
It’s fine for your bikini line, just avoid genitals.
Can you epilate instead of shaving before doing the IPL treatments?
Yes, but you should wait 24 hours between epilating and doing IPL so there is a small amount of hair to target in the follicle.
Can it work on men's face. Thank you
It should work well on any areas of darker hair
Will you make another update?
Hi Karen. Really most of the gains are made within the first few months of using this device and then you move into maintaining the results. I’m roughly where I was when I filmed my final verdict - virtually no hair under my arms and just a little hair on my legs. I’m using the device around every 6 weeks now.
does the hair permanently remove and you can finally stop using this? Or you need to use this entire life otherwise hair will keep growing back?
I suspect results will vary from person to person. Some hair will never grow back but Philips say it’s likely you will have to do some maintenance treatments long term
@@thehonestchannel tq for reply.
@@thehonestchannel 1 last question. Can I trim (not shave) and use this?
@@mizan9232 Yes, but the shorter the hair the greater the impact
@@thehonestchannel tq for reply.
Have you considered using it for skin rejuvenation?
I’ve noticed IPL can be used for skin rejuvenation. It’s an interesting thought and I’ll look into it a bit more closely. There’s very limited information on whether you can use an at-home hair removal device for skin rejuvenation buy I’ll see what I can find out. : )
Hi Thank you for your video it's very helpful just want to ask one question please. Why is the red light on some of body areas?
@@sanaehsan6329 A red or orange light indicates that area of skin is too dark to treat : (
@@thehonestchannel oh ok thank you very much for answering my question I really appreciat it 😊

I also have another question please.. do you recommend buying glasses or goggles ?
There’s no need to use goggles with this device

Is there any skin cancer risk if u use this ???
As far as I am aware there is no evidence to suggest a skin cancer risk with IPL.
