Out of context these snippets may seem pretty stupid, but if you view them in their proper context of the full episodes from which they came, it will be clear that yeah they're pretty stupid.
There’s this line I absolutely love from the show, I can’t remember the episode but basically, the batmobile was stolen and Batman had to run back to the bat cave to be greeted by Alfred and he’s like “Apologies Alfred. The batmobile was stolen, so I took the subway and BAT-WALKED all the way over here”
I saw an episode where the Penguin had set a trap for them. When he opened fire using a hidden machine gun, Batman shouted "Quick, Robin! Behind the Bulletproof Bat-Shield!", which seemingly appeared out of nowhere 😂
Every movie has its absurdness. Batman 89 - Bruce Wayne swinging upside down like a bat. Batman Forever- Batman smiling and giving a thumbs up. Batman and Robin: everything. That's the movie you're looking for but it's not as subtle as this show.
Adam West plays the best father Batman has ever been. Teaching his son morals and safety, looking out for his well being whilst letting him be involved. What an MVP.
My favorite thing about this show is how characters will say the most ridiculous thing you ever heard and act like it was both obvious and completely normal
I remember one line from the movie and it was a riddle. I forgot exactly what riddle it was but Robin answered with the most nonsensical answer ever with so much confidence that I sarcastically said “oh, of course that was the answer! Why didn’t I think of that?”
Battinson: Pffft, road safety? (Causes a massive traffic collision that could have gotten people killed because of a subconscious desire to satisfy violent urges but also making it look sick as hell)
I always thought the idea of a guy dressed up as a bat, running around beating up baddies was already preposterous, that's why I love this show for realizing that and embracing it.
Funny you should say that, I heard that they did Batman as more of a comedy because the TV execs at the time thought people wouldn't take a serious Batman show seriously.
What a person with enough money and resources being able to fix a horribly corrupt city by just dressing up as a bat and beating up criminals as well as spending their day life sending funds to proper charities totally ridiculous I mean it's not like we don't live in a world where the entire world is shut down by a disease which we should have handled well considering our species to survive devil major diseases
I love when old shows slip in morality and life lessons. It's corny a lot of the time but it feels so wholesome in a way that is rare to find in the media these days.
There's definitely something to be said about it. Like it or not, TV and media as a whole are guiding forces to many people. Up until the 80s, shows tried to have a central lesson to make people do better. Today, that's a rarity. The difference in society at large is night and day compared to a few decades ago.
I personally prefer a blend where they teach good morals while not being so heavy handed about it. More like guidance on how to make your own decisions instead of just doing as you're told.
i think the genius of batman is the people working on the show being foreward thinking enough to realize that decades later, people won't be able to tell between the intentional comedy and the unintentional comedy inherent in 1960s camp aesthetics and production
4:35 I laughed out loud to this. His “i beg your pardon” was so nonchalantly delivered as if it was a regulars occurrence for this exact exchange to happen in this exact scenario
4:45 For as goofy as the show can be, I think this is the only instance in any continuity where Batman works in an official capacity with Gotham City Police Department. You know, actually having been deputized.
In the golden age comics Batman was also deputized. He had an official (bat-shaped) badge lined with diamonds, presumably to make it impossible to copy.
Golden Age Batman, the modern Audio Adventures, and a short-lived comic line from ten years ago all had Batman deputized and working with the police force of Gotham.
Julie Newmar was great in the part, and, before Frank Miller's version, she was the most vicious version of Catwoman yet seen. The actors who played the main villains were all fine performers and would have been outstanding in straight adaptations of the comics. David Wayne as the Mad Hatter was an out-and-out psychopath that rivaled the modern Joker.
I don't dislike the more serious and dark Batman, i'm in fact a huge fan. But I don't get why so many people dislikes the campy, funny and weird Batman, like this or the Schumacher movies. This is hilarious! Just because this is a different way of interpreting Batman, than we know today with Nolan, Snyder or Reeves, It dosen't mean it's wrong.
