Once:
Once es el quinto álbum de la banda finlandesa de power metal sinfónico Nightwish, lanzado el 7 de junio del 2004 por Nuclear Blast. Spinefarm Records también lanzó una edición platino de este álbum el 24 de noviembre del 2004, que además de las canciones originales incluye los temas «Live to Tell the Tale», «White Night Fantasy» y el vídeo de «Nemo» dirigido por Antti Jokinen. Por mantener una gran fama a nivel mundial, consiguierón un presupuesto de grabación mayor y Tuomas decidió contratar una orquesta para acompañar el álbum de la banda la elegida fue la famosa Orquesta Filarmónica de Londres, cuyos músicos grabaron todas sus partes en tan solo ocho horas en el estudio. Once fue el último trabajo con Turunen la cual es despedida por una carta abierta escrita por Tuomas.
Durante su primera semana de lanzamiento, Once entró en el número uno en Grecia, Noruega, Finlandia, y Alemania además en ese país vendió 80 000 copias. En mayo, «Nemo» fue el primer sencillo en ser lanzado, seguido de «Wish I Had An Angel» en septiembre, «Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan» en noviembre y «The Siren» en julio del 2005.
En 2005, después de más de ciento treinta actuaciones, la banda terminó la gira Once Upon a Tour con un concierto en Helsinki, en una presentación para más de 500 personas, la cual fue grabado para un DVD titulado End of an Era se lanzó el 1 de junio 2006. De todos modos, a finales de 2005, Once obtuvo tres discos de platino en Finlandia y otro de platino en Alemania tenía más de doscientos mil ejemplares vendidos y había certificado el aumento de ventas en varios otros países, incluyendo un certificado de oro por la venta de más de quinientas mil copias en Europa, para un total de más de un millón de copias vendidas en todo el mundo

Con la pena... pero Floor no estaba embarazada. Esta presentación fue un año antes.
La única diferencia es que en esta versión está experimentando mucho más con su voz e impostación clásica a diferencia de la del Wacken, que usó más su voz mixta y con más poder.

Wacken 2013 will forever be the ultimate, this is a very different version, she's using more of her classical voice, and sounds incredible, she looks as stunning as ever.
While Wacken 2013 is also my favorite, Floor has said everytime she does this song live - she does it with a different twist. She doesn't want it to always be the same thing.
So "better" is not really that fair to say. Different yes, but different means it's up to the individual to decide which is their favorite/best version for themselves. That's what make Floor and the band so damn special.
@@BenTan89 it's such a special song, I love hearing all sorts of versions of it, from Tarja's ethereal version to Anette's sweet and bright version, but it's always Wacken I go to. Here's to more chapters of the Nightwish story.
Wacken, Tampere and now this one... Really can anyone compare them? Damn 3/3 GREAT perfomances all of them. Each one for each onw reasons... 3 Different versions but damn the same result in our ears!!!! Well... No comparison since we get the amazing feeling at the end!!! At least me, I cann't put one version on top of another!
Wacken 2013 is heavily post processed also to make it sound like a studio song. They released it on a DVD. I'm sure it was remastered to make it sound the best it could be.

I guess this song is one of the songs that has brought the most tears to the listener - especially in live versions. Including me.
I don't know which one I appreciate more... How Floor effortlessly just conquered the whole city with her presence and voice, or how Emppu and Kai have the widest and happiest grin on their faces! When the band enjoys, it's going to be a one hell of a ride!

She is just so goddamned spectacular and in her element when she performs this song, its not even funny. I am in actual awe. There isn't a vocalist who even comes close.

@@davidbentley4032 Good she is, but this pales in comparison to the End of An Era. Floor is a good vocalist, but much like with The Poet and the Pendulum, lots of the original emotion of the songs is gone with her. I am not sure why this is, but one can feel it. She says herself that she mixes up the songs a bit to make them "more interesting", but Tuomas' songs are so intricate already, that they shouldn't be touched. On this song, they lowered the key to make it easier to sing, and she added this dreadful screaming at the end that doesn't suit the song at all. As for TPATP, just listen and you know what I mean.

Emotions? That depends on each listener. I think Floor brings more emotional than Tarja in this song, and the first I listened Nightwish was with Tarja, but I didn't like it...
About the key change, personally I don't see any problem about it. Every song was made to be changed, even some bands and singers change the key of their songs during their touring.

It's only me thinking there's something wrong with sound effects and general mixing? In the Wacken 2013 the whole thing is a lot more dense, sounding, full, especially in the way vocals blend with the orchestra... Also, I think Floor looks a bit tired here, but even so she managed it at her levels, modulating when she felt the voice weakening, which is so damn professional and outstanding.
Not just you, my friend - I was a little put off by the sound/mix here, too. I made a comment about Wacken 2013 remaining "untopped" (the best) live performance yet.
This was okay too, once I got used to it, but, it's no Wacken 2013, lol.
I only watch these alternate live performances to compare and see if Floor's vocals are consistently "on point" or if she does exhibit a little fatigue now & then and makes adjustments (which you mentioned here, so it wasn't just me that picked up on that, lol). I find these little "adjustments" reassuring that she is indeed at the end of the day, still human like the rest of us, and capable (and permitted to) falling a little short of the bar previously set (and set HIGH) lol.
@@BlackieNuff Couldn't agree more! She looks tired (perhaps too many concerts after another is even too much for Floor..), but even tired she still outshines other singers :P
The thing with the audio that bugs me is that I believe they tried to make the recording as clean as possible... But by doing so around 30-40% of the effects in the instruments and vocals (like echoing of the microphone, little rasp here and there) is lost in the process.. Wacken was sooo much better also due to a much better audio recording style and processing!
I guess the difference is Wacken 2013 is a live concert recorded by the band for a live DVD/Bluray, so the sound mixing was really good. This is a festival recording and sadly the sound is usually awful. Also the Bloodstock 2018 Nightwish concert sounds like crap.
@@Manyuken I agree, they screwed the sound here. Not being an expert, I noticed that we could hear the crowd too much. Maybe they had a microphone to catch when they were singing along but they left it open all the time or it was too high and it was also catching some echo or reverb from the surroundings of the concert and that may had affected the quality too. I think even Floor was not happy with the sound she was listening on her earbuds and maybe that affected her own performance too. (you can see her asking for maybe more volume tapping her ear at 3:03)
No nothing wrong with your hearing. This is s bad mix. Wacken 2013 will probably never be equalled.

What a joy to find this recording after feasting on Wachen, Tempere and others. Emotional journey as always-epic song by an epic band! And wow Tuomas getting emotional at 10:14, this is so personal.

Yeah, whoever did the mix is a rank amateur... though I suspect a lot of "garbage in, garbage out" as I doubt the source recording is up to snuff either. The whole production feels "cheap" from a technical standpoint, and probably sounded a thousand times better live.
@@jasonknight1085 Yeah it's sad when venues cut the budget on sound and light. I played at a venue once and the drum mics and sound was kind of trash and light was horrible, I was playing drums and the camera crew did film me but there was a lot of smoke on stage and no spotlight at all at me so when they filmed me you could barely see me haha.
mixing is just typical for this type of show , people get a lot better quality live at the venue as mixing is for this specific location not for broadcast or recording ,the reason why mix on 2013 Wacken or 2018 Rio (that everyone compere to) sounds better is because those shows was recorded for DVD ans have studio grade multi channel sound mix with lot of post production , this is just how you hear it on concert

No doubt this is a great song; my favourite song ever. It would have been amazing to have been at that concert. Pity the sound quality in this recording is poor. Still, if you want better sound the Wacken 2013 version is there!

That pretty Brazilian girl is having a ball. I'll lay odds she's the type who wouldn't waste a second debating who the best Nightwish singer is. On that subject, Floor's ending sounds more like Anette on this version. Discuss? And a lot of people are complaining about the sound quality. It isn't up to the 'standard' of Wacken but that was doctored, surely. Here, you hear it as it is, in a live show. It also gives equal weight to the choir at the end, along with Floor Jansen, more like the original version written for Tarja, which the girl seems to be enjoying - she knows the words.

Good, but performance at wacken 2013 beat all their live performances with Floor up to this date imo. It does seem Floor has adopted a more Tarja-esque vocal performance during this song, which, honestly, is a shame.
+Anders Svensson This recorded performance is not really a reference either : the mixing is absolutely terrible. Look at the GLS performance at Rock the Ring 2015. Floor delivers a quite astonishing finale at this one. ; )
I agree this is not a good performance at all!...and it looks like that she is trying to take on more operatic style than she can handle...at a couple of points her voice actually cracks!
Yeah that Wacken DVD will hold a special place with is all for sure.
But as said a lot of other ones simply also just ate terrible recordings.
And while we like to think of her as the amazing vocal warrior she is only human. she gets tired and now is mixing the rough vocals too.
But sadly atrocious audio mixes and terrible recordings....or lack of recordings in general is kind of her akilies heal...
which is a horrible shame considering how uniquely talented she is
its simply a tough ending to sing and when you tour you will have limitations sometimes. its just how it is.
Wacken 2013 will always be the Platinum standard. always...
