  • Everything you always wanted to know about belt conveyors 💡#𝗙𝗔𝗤 𝟭𝟬 Can I also separate, sort or buffer with a belt conveyor?
Yes, in addition to simply transporting things from A to B, belt conveyors can also separate, sort or buffer using simple means.
The simplest way to buffer or store is to move the product against a stop, a so-called accumulation bar, and thus accumulate it on the conveyor belt. This area can be enlarged accordingly by one or more parallel conveyor belts running in opposite directions. In this case, the dynamic pressure is reduced and bridging is prevented. This type of buffering is suitable for both "push table" tasks and first-in-first-out tasks. For very small products that require a minimal gap between the individual conveyors, the use of hinged or modular belt conveyors is recommended. With this so-called BiFlow function, the conveyed goods can not only be buffered, but also separated and arranged in a row. In other words, brought into an order that can be automated.
Another option for separating or equalizing products can be implemented using belt conveyors at different speeds. The material to be conveyed is transferred from a slow-moving belt to a fast-moving belt. This works with conveyors positioned one behind the other as well as in parallel. However, if the products are transferred from a fast conveyor to a slow one, they are slowed down and the distances between the products are reduced.
Various additional components can also be used to separate, sort and reject conveyed goods. For example, add-on parts such as stoppers, side guides, switches or star wheels are used here. These can process the products precisely and at the required speed of the process.
