been doing this about as long as you, was taught to straight edge, been row finding for several years now, wish i had been using this technique all along...the dread level has gone way down...enjoy your vids, never to old to learn something, thanks
Fransisca Brett Thank you, I was actually debating between that and this one when ever I did this video and I chose this however the turn and tack is coming Real soon
I may have discovered a new way to make running a row easier. Instead of pushing my Orcon row finder straight ahead I’ve started pushing it forward and then pull it back as if it’s snagged and push it forward then pull it back and run the row like that. I seem to stay in the row easier by doing it this way and actually don’t get snagged up.
Just curious, how do you work a row when the forklift driver smashes and warp/wrinkles the ends of the carpet roll?? Hard to run a straight row with that.
Im a DIYer, after watching this video a couple times and practicing, I can’t get this consistent on my carpet. Best way I found to match to a row is to just free-hand cut along the far side of the line along the back (I have a very steady hand). This seems to match up with the rows just as well, since the rows are bonded to the line. it’ll probably take longer.
Whenever I run a row the carpet is never straight edges end up being wavy and it won't fit together lapped and gapped to much and I know I'm running on a straight row so i end up straight edging it and it fits together much better sometimes its dead on accurate seams are invisible I can't get the material to but together as well wene I'm row cutting as wene I straight edge it any thoughts?
You are exactly right, nine times I’m a 10 you will be able to budget together better if you straight edge it . If you want to keep the one on that carpet that you do, bro cut it and the manufacturer will expect you to manipulate the carpet as you’re putting the same together to make it right. There are tolerances that the manufacturer will receive the carpet back if it’s too bad that that don’t happen whole lot. I think the tolerance is one and a half inches in a 12 foot length.. It is a little extra work but once to get used to doing it and just feels like the better way to do it. I used to always straight edge things as well.
Thanks bud, my late father was an installer for 30+ years. I helped him quite a bit as a teenager and have always done a bit of side work. It's been awhile so I needed to brush up. 🍻👍
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I agree just thinking incase you forget your clrow cutter for example I have a short wheel base Ford transit and depending on what I have on is what I Load up with sometime ls you forget tools lol

Carpet is made in Rows just like corn is planted. The space between each row of fibers is called the gauge. That is what I am explaining how to find in this video.

11:59 Very helpful! Great video!
I've been using a wore down flat head screw driver for Berber and a ink pen for shag.
Tom S Yeah I know I handful of people that use flat head screwdriver‘s as row finders
Great video! A video on how to turn and tack/glue edges with nothing to pack in to with a stair tool would be awesome. Cheers mate

That was exceptionally helpful. I was in the middle of a DIY install and was having a hard time finding the rows. This helped a lot. Thank you!

What side of the top rowcutter do you put the blade on. Left side for left cut right side for right cut? Or is it different?
Put the blade on the side that is going to be the seam edge of the carpet. 👍
Is it best to go in the direction of the pile or against it? Or does it matter?
Yes, it is best to go the direction with the pile

I'm struggling with seaming cheap (apartment) carpet? Could you give some tips on straight cutting from the back to top cutting?
Isaiah Garza If you join my live stream tonight and remind me I will speak on it and try to help out with it
Buy a variety size pack of knitting needles for cut pile.
Can you find a row going either direction?
Yes

Could you if you don't have a row cutter use a pen to part the row and then use a sharp carpet knife then follow the line?
mikes life It is possible, you have to be real sensitive in the hand to feel that row , However row cutters Are really affordable
