Awesome pattern, thank you for the video. Only changes/additions I made were tying in ostrich herl along the belly using the underwire to represent gills and/or legs and using tan mottled thin skin in place of the flexi-body. I also use a marker to color the head and back a darker shade....not sure if this is crucial but it definitely presents some color contrast which i think may be an important factor. Regardless, this fly looks and fishes outstanding. I will add to the permanent roster of patterns i tie. Thanks again

Peter Varkala Thank you for the comment. Ostrich herl makes for a really great looking fly, requires a little more work though. For the back I quite like this brown color and the darker shade for the head and thorax area. Happy tying!

Excellent fly - just wondering - do you tie this in smaller sizes ? I see everyone on youtube tying these in size 10 (obviously for demonstration purposes) but the reality is more like size 18 - what is your experience when you fish them ? really small flies seem to work far better for me

Make it as big and heavy as fatty as you can, size 8 then put a couple of of serious flies behind. It is only to take them down., then again a a big shrimp does work. Size 12 shrimp should be OK
The method is to get your flies on the bottom.

    Hi,
Could you give me the reason for using hot spots and if using holographic, for example mylar tinsel on fly model on the back of the body, or other flash materials. Does increase the number of strikes? On the other hand, does this work on all species of trout or is it only suitable for rainbow trout? Could you provide me some published article about this subject?
    Thank you.

Hi Jacques, I have personally great confidence in hot spots as well as some flash in my flies. The hot spot adds an attack point and the flash adds life. I don't have any articles about it but for me it works.
