One of the most realistic nymph patterns I have ever seen, and it didn’t use that many materials either! Definitely giving it a try, thanks for the super informative video!
Tied this up and caught a ton of fish on it yesterday. Usually get one or 2 in an hour. Got 11 in 2 hours from the same spots. I think those gills look delicious to the fish 🐟
Awesome awesome! I tied some up here in eastern Canada and they sure look real, but one of them looked like a cockroach. I tied 3 with the olive micro tubing. More care is required as the tubing is easily stretchable and can end up smaller segments. Thank you for sharing all.
Well I came back for another look, there are a few good Fuscum imitations to be found on YT all offer slight improvements and provoke ones imagination, however this tie of yours is a splendid use of materials. I'M very grateful, thank you, Tommy.
Beautiful fly! Davie McPhail uses a material he calls organza ribbon (not sure of the spelling) and he gets a very similar effect for the gills. A little easier maybe. Your patience and craftsmanship is wonderful and it shows with your finished fly! Well done.
Thank you very much Don. Yes I think you spelled it correctly. I've seen the video and I'm sure Davie makes it look easier than it is but it sure gives a really nice looking body.
This is a very innovative fly. I really enjoyed the video. My only concern is the gill material. Since Baetis nymphs are normally in slower moving water, there would be no gill movement like there is in a natural. Either way, it a great job. You are a very thoughtful fly tier. Thanks for sharing your time, your ideas and your tying skills with us.
Thank you very much Tom. With the gills on this fly I was more looking for the shape than movement but it would for sure be interesting to try some more supple materials to see if there is a difference in takes. Best regards, Simon
Hi mystery tyer ;-) I wish I knew your name, your voice & production style of video seems Scandinavian, but no matter, fly tying is universal. Very nice pattern, especially the gills. I would think it would work well on a larger scale in a vertical plane for flat bait fish patterns. I don't think I would have the patience to do either. A tyer named Floyd Franke tied an iso nymph that was featured in Fly Tyer magazine a few years ago that you would like. From what I remember he used white floss, a modified cap of a Bic pen, and super glue. The floss is wound up the abdomen over the the stem of the cap, which is placed on the ventral side of fly. Glue is applied to the dorsal side, shell back pulled over and tied down. The floss is severed on the bottom, releasing the pen cap which protects the underlying abdomen from being cut. Easier done than said! Anyway it seems more expedient than weaving, maybe not as much fun. Dirk's Outdoors on RUclips features some of Franke's other patterns. I didn't realize that Mr Franke had passed away. Another master tyer gone... Thanks for showing your skills, I have subscribed, you're number 201!
Hi Joe, my name is Simon and I am indeed quite Scandivanian, Swedish to be more precise :) Thank you! Yes this would certainly work well for some bigger baitfish patterns as well. Very good idea, would be something worth trying out. Seems like a nice pattern, I will have to dive into Floyd Franke's creations. It is really sad that he passed away. Thank you so much for the comment and subscription, greatly appreciated. The nymph leg technique is great, I think I learned it from Davie McPhail a few years ago.
+HacklesAndWings Aha! Just call me Sherlock! Well I discovered your name by going to your web sites. But I noticed the intro before I heard your voice. After seeing the comments it was "elementary" my dear Simon! ;-) lol, watching you manipulate the gills I heard Davie McPhail say "it is a wee bit fiddly but just take your time". He was my first subscription. I Googled classic salmon & wet flies and there he was. In fact one of his subscribers recommended this video for him to watch. So I followed suit. You remind me of Eivind Berulfensen , another great tyer on RUclips. However I haven't seen anything from him in quite awhile. Thanks for the reply Simon, I'll be watching.
Hello HW Greetings from Peru..This is the first time that I watch one of your videos...I liked it a lot..Thanks for your tips and clear explanation. I am just on time to prepair my flies for this season and I will tie some of these Nymphs. I subscribed to your channel so I will have the chance to continue following your extraordinary work. Thanks, Antonio
Hey Simon..thank you so much for your gently reply ... Yesterday I began to watch you videos..they are great!!! on the other hand, whenever you have some time, I humbly invite you to visit my channel. I will be happy to receive your comments and recommendations. Cheers, Antonio
What a masterpiece! But I wish you didn’t speed things up during the demonstration since this is a complicated piece to learn and I would like to see every bit of the process that you went through in its natural speed! This is a piece that I would definitely want to tie but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it unless I sit down with the instructor himself and slowly watch what he is doing! Awesome fly, nonetheless!
Thank you very much. I thought I had to speed it up a little to keep it a little shorter but I get what you're saying. Hopefully we could meet sometime at a fly fishing fair and I'll gladly show you the pattern. Best regards, Simon
I would say this is generic mayfly nymph pattern, especially from the baetis family. Here tied in an olive version but you can tie it in a range of colors and sizes to imitate the naturals in your waters.
Beautiful pattern.... I believe when it comes to tying and fishing nymphs, size and color is all that matters. When Trout are feeding they mouth about everything passing by them.. Depth of the nymph fished is important.. Tying nymphs that keep me at the vise instead of the water are a waste of time..But hey! That's just my opinion
+Kento Wakai That's usually due to to friction between the spool and the metal pieces holding it in place. A tiny drop of oil or some dubbing wax tends to do the trick.
Pessoal sou iniciante em atar Iscas, já até fiz algumas, porem sem Morsa, e estou pedindo alguém que tenha uma usada e que queira vender por um preço bom mais barato eu compro, abraço.
That's a great looking fly, but way too skilful for my meagre fly tying skills. Also definitely not a fly where you want the thread to break as you are tying the whip finish, meaning you would have to start again!
+David R Bellairs Thank you! It is a little tricky fly to tiebut with a little bit of practice I'm sure you can do it. It is a lot easier when using some kind of floss or material that comes in strands. Yeah, breaking the thread is the last thing you want to happen when tying this :) Nano Silk has made this a lot easier though.
+HacklesAndWings Indeed. I've only just started using Nano Silk about a week ago. It's a bit slippery at first when you are used to Uni, but the strength to diameter is very impressive. Just ordered some 12/0 to go with the 18/0 I've been using.
Baetis nymphs range from sizes 5 to 12mm approx so yes this one is a little bigger but sometimes it is really effective to oversize your pattern to stand out from the naturals. It also gives much better video with slightly bigger hooks. Thank you for the feedback.
You know every trick in the book. I wish I was 1/2000th as good as you. Just incredible.

Incredible
PS, I almost forgot, you're the only tyer on RUclips, that I can remember, that ties on nymph legs the way I learned!
That's an enticing fly, the gill technique is great. Can't wait tie some and see if the trout like it as much as I do!
Thank you! All cred to Karsten Neben for showing me this great technique. I'm sure they will!
Beautiful! Tight lines🕷️🐛!!!!!
I am sure you have heard this before but beautiful job, thanks for sharing, great craftsmanship!
Thanks a lot!

Great looking fly.
Awesome looking fly, tied some up for this weekend! Looking forward to trying them out!
Thank you! Any luck on them?
HacklesAndWings high water right now, I am going to try them on some carp this week though!
Love it! Especially, the gill technique. I think it would work great for burrowing nymph patterns. Well done, sir!
Thanks a lot! This would for sure work for burrowing nymph patterns as well, great idea will have to try this out!
Definitely!
Great looking nymph, I especially like the technique you used for the gills.
+Phillip Lekanof Thanks a lot! The gill technique is great, it really makes nice looking baetis bodies. Works well with nymph skin too.
Great video, sweet pattern. Wouldn't want to loose grip of that body tubing when wrapping in those gills
Thanks a lot! No that for sure, a real pain :)

You are the Mak-Daddy. I love your tying work. Hope everything is going well for you.
Hi Mark, thank you! Yes everything going well, less time for videos though but I'll get back to it soon I hope
Excellent technique, killer pattern
Beautiful fly👍👍👍well typed👍👍. Tight lines🪰🦗!!!
Absolutely incredible , lots of work involved but the result is excellent
Thank you! Takes some time but end up quite well
Awesome fly! Great idea with the eyes and gills! Looking forward to more flies!
Thank you very much
Great fly, best baetis yet! I would tie this a dark meal worm type of color because baetis are not green.
I tied one and caught a ton, thanks. Coastal cutthroat trout love this fly!
Thank you, nice and well done !
Excelente mosca, si bien no se ingles, es tan detallado el atado que hasta parece facil atarla! muchas gracias, saludos desde Jujuy, Argentina.
Muchas gracias! Saludos desde Suiza.
Hoping this message finds you well.Where have you been?Looking forward to your next video.
Busy working. Hoping to get out a few more videos soon.
Thank you for this fine pattern. Last tier I subscribed to is Davie. Ahh and now I get to enjoy your art.
+zenbooter Thanks a lot! Really appreciate it.

That is one sweet fly. I’m definitely going to try this one. You’re very patient! lol
Thank you! I recommend it, it's a real fun tie. And yes I am patient :)
Excellent fly, I will try to tie it and try it in Limay Patagonia Argentina. Thank you
Thank you! Tight lines, do tell if you catch something.
Amazing... You are very talented!
Thank you!
looks like a great pattern! Thanks for the video!
Thanks a lot!

You can reduce speed as low at 25%
Beautiful!!!!
Very creative , very nice
+flytier Thank you!
Muy buena la elaboración 🙏🙏🙏
All that work, with my luck I'd get that shit stuck in a tree.
beautiful work.
Thanks for inspiring me to tie some of these.

+Oliver Reichel Hi Oliver, glad the fly could inspire you to tie some. All the best, Simon
Are these available to buy?
Very nice!
+Michael Ogden Thank you!
Amazing lesson!!
Thank you!
hi friend is this a may fly nymph or olive nymph

MT mt bom amigão; o detalhe de como fazer o olho foi de grande ajuda parabéns 👏👏👏🎣
Круто как живая.

Thank you! I couldn't agree more. But this one makes for a good video showcasing techniques and what not
It does...Beautiful fly, done well... Thanks
Why use a dry hook on this nymph ?
The tiemco 113 blh is the heavier wire version of the tiemco 103 and works perfect for nymphs
👏👏
спасибо большое...очень интересно...вы молодец!
Thank you!
what kind of thread?
+John Hochevar This is the Nanosilk 18/0 from www.semperfli.net
That would be Bob Poppvics, Semper Fi Bob.
muchas gracias....un máster
+Hector Vergara Gracias!
I know the ceramic bobbin holders are awesome, but I hate the squeak they make...nails on a chalkboard.

come on size 10 no friggin way on a beatis hell the adults are like a size 16 at max sure its a nice tie but not as a beatis

Nice tying. Video spoilt by ads during the tying. You dont get that with Davie Mcphail
Thank you! The only way I can continue doing videos is to have ads in them. I'm sorry if this ruined your viewing experience.
You need to speak up or need more volume, I couldn't hear what you are saying!!!
