    On point 2, I think SV did a good job getting the player to care about the legendaries again. Gen 8 was a huge misstep, but gen 7 with nebby and gen 9 with the bikes and ogerpon's story were both really great. I actually cared about my koraidon by the ending where it mattered.
    But yea I'd love to see a pokemon stadium type game, maybe on mobile, where you can customize and battle based on what you have in your Home account. If I can prove I've caught a Landorus, I shouldn't have to worry about making it a special attacker or physical attacker if I need an Incarnate or Therian at any given moment.

    • @PokeBurm
      @PokeBurm  27 дней назад +4

      Good point on Ogerpon, that was a fun, legendary centric story. I guess I'm nostalgic for the games where the legendaries themselves were the big looming threat you had to control. Nowadays they're kind of your sidekick in taking down a different big bad. I'm not complaining about Koraidon's personality though, I love my bike puppy

    I think legends arceus was a great step in the right direction. It stayed to the core of pokemon, and created so many new styles that you can play the base game, and added SO much more life to the actual pokemon. From natural dynamics and actual 'ecosystems' that the game showed, to even something as small as being able to have all six of your pokemon out of their balls and naturally interacitng with eachother. I really hope that players, and especially GF realize how much potential there is when implementing more of the LA features than they did with SV

    • @THGMR-ox7sd
      @THGMR-ox7sd 25 дней назад

      Some people say legends arceus was boring and terrible.
      I know different opinions exist but I never got bored with the game until I beat most of it and there isn't much to do except for shiny hunting and 100% ing the Pokédex tasks.
      If a person gets bored of that I wanna know what they don't find boring. Do they need something happening every millisecond because if not they will quit right at the start of the game, or do they simply want more content in the game?

  • @mindforz

    I definitely think the bugginess of the recent games can be attributed partially to the speed they have to pump these games out at. I'm hoping with the (tiny) extra time they've given themselves Z-A won't release a buggy mess.

    With that last point. Just make it unlock after beating the game. Boom you still get the value of the game and you can play the game how you want after. I feel like thats how people play anyway. You beat the main line then go on to play competitive.

    Technical aspects aside, for me it's crazy that the games don't really teach you about EVs & IVs, and I despise the hexagonal stat chart, especially when I messed up and there's a rogue stat invested somewhere, but I can't tell where. Oh, also some descriptions for items or attacks are really vague... "this item makes special attacks hit slightly harder", really helpful, oh, and gamefreak, give us the rusty bottle caps already.

    • @PokeBurm
      @PokeBurm  27 дней назад

      I don't mind the hexagonal stat chart itself, I just want a number of how many EVs are in a Pokémon's stat. It's easy to tell if you've maxed out an EV but if you add just 1 EV to a stat it's hard to tell which one you added it into.

    I agree with your list 100%! I would add that the Pokemon Company needs to stop reusing characters to cover/fill in other character roles, just because they didn't create a character to fill that role.
    Like in SV; Nemona is your Friend, a guide for you becoming Champion, rival, AND Pokemon Champion. Those could've been different Characters. In LetsGO Pika/Eevee, that random af kid is your Friend, Rival, and PKMN Champion (even though that formula works PERFECTLY for Blue). In SwSh, they didn't have to make that chairman dude into final villain, just create a villain character! etc...
    I guess this would tie into your #3, in a way
    Keep up the vids man! Definitely looking forward to more

    I'm so baffled as to why Nintendo has not done an official modern battle simulator yet. Like, I don't like how they keep making new Pokemon games so quickly, but at least I understand why they do it (to please the shareholders and keep the money flowing). But with the battle simulator aspect, I have no idea why they aren't doing it.
    I have to make it clear first that I'm not a huge fan of heavily monetized games, but even I recognize that if they just released a free to play battle simulator, they could make so much fucking money with it. They could pretty much monetize the entire game, like selling skins for trainer characters, or even the pokemon, like in Pokemon Unite. It'd be such an easy way to make money, yet they still don't do it, I have no idea why.
    The best answer I can come up with is that they think that releasing a battle simulator would make people that are into competitive battles less inclined to buy the new mainline games, but for one, I don't think it'd make that big of a difference, I think most Pokemon fans would still buy the mainline games, and on top of that, they could, for example, make it so that the only way to get shinies in the battle simulator was to transfer them from other games, so that'd already give a lot of insentive for people to buy the mainline games, where they can shiny hunt.

    I agree with every point except the story related ones. Regarding evil teams, it’s think it’s dope that they’re experimenting with different concepts for antagonists. Team yell as a toxic fanbase and team star representing the bullied turning into bullies themselves.
    I think they should be encouraged to improve on properly executing innovative concepts rather than going back to a 20 year old formula. People online already consider Pokemon as Nintendo’s COD.
    Regarding legendaries, they’re still involved in story, just not in an overt way. You’re more implored to discover lore yourself by engaging with various locations and npcs rather than everything being spoon-fed to you in the past.
    Both new approaches work in the context of Pokemon and are only an issue if you’re blitzing through game without paying attention to dialogue, which is the player base’s fault since they’re notorious for that.

    Another thing about legendaries that really annoys me is that you catch then at the very end of the story. What use do I have of a powerful Pokemon AFTER I beat the elite four? Bring back catching the legendary after the seventh gym.

    In relation to your last point, I am a large advocate for this dream pitch -
    New Pokemon Stadium
    - Every Pokemon
    - Every gimmick
    - Every battle style - single, double, triple, inverse, battle royal, etc. (Even include contests!)
    - Tournaments can be run with limitations and restrictions, or none if wanted.
    - Central hub for competitive
    - Can build teams or use Pokemon you have in HOME
    - Made by Bandai Namco
    - Can have a story mode of beating a Battle Frontier style facility.
    - Has a Metronome Mode

    Hope I’m not too much of a Larry here, but my two cents on point 2. In my opinion, the reason Pokemon was shit for ten years, prior to Pokemon Go (with Pokemon that looked like off brand cereal mascots and games that were minimum effort) was because there was no business case for them to pour more money into them. The stat that gets thrown around a lot of about such a tiny percentage of Pokemon money coming from the games, and for many years it was accepted that Pokemon would sell millions of units regardless of the quality. So, since the Pokemon resurgence, they seem to be trying to make a business case to be able to make these more ambitious games. I think it’s a good trade-off for the niche few that do genuinely need the top tiers (what percentage of Pokemon players get into it to that degree? 1%?) to pay a bit more. Maybe a boring take

    I think for the teambuilding could work, but you need to have the pokemon that you want to use in the box, but you can change the nature, iv's, ev's, items, moves and tera type for this gen. So game freak still got the exclusive ones each game, but you need lesser time to build a team

  • @ignaciovelasco9452
    @ignaciovelasco9452 27 дней назад +2

    Without taking into account sword and shield, because those games have a hard time doing anything good aside from giving us the master pieces that falinks and frostmoth are.
    I strongly disagree with point 1 and 2, team star is really good plot wise and feels refreshing in comparison to some dumbasses trying to destroy the world because "beauty" or "water good", ofc I dont want it to be a staple of the franchise I like actually evil teams. I dont mention team yell because I forgot they existed
    And about the legendary thing I dont think its necesary for the plot to be centered around the box legendary, after all mewtwo is a great representation of a legendary done right, the story doesnt revolve about it yet its one of the most memorable legendaries. Either way it isnt bad that the story revolves around the box legendary after all black and white its one of the best pokemon games.
    What im trying to say is that unlike the other first 3 points the number 1 and 2 arent bad in general, they are bad because you put sword and shield as the example XD

  • @sakureon

    Personally I like the direction they're taking with their newer stories. Finding out that Team Star is just a band of bullied misfits made me relate to them and like them a lot more, and I otherwise find stories more interesting when they delve into themes other than worshipping a Legendary Pokémon.
    But the pace in which they release main series games is so insanely exhausting. I remember when I was younger I would often fear that I can't get the next generation of games because I already begged my parents to get the current games. And despite the fact that I can afford the new games now, I still dislike the current pace. It means that VGC rules are constantly changing and I sometimes struggle to keep up.

    I rather missed the forced random battles in Scarlet/Violet. Some of that came from how wild Pokémon being in the overworld were pretty easy to avoid if I wanted to, but more that there were so few trainers to battle, and I wasn't forced to battle any of them. To me, the lack of forced trainer battles and lack of trainers in the gyms (and even in the Team Star hideouts) really felt like battling was not a central thing to Scarlet/Violet.

    I agree with most of what you said in the video. However, I wanted to comment on my side of the evil teams and what happened to them. As much as things stay the same in the series, the people at Game Freak do want to change things up a little. I liked the twists on the "evil teams" in more recent games because they are different. The Team Star story was fun, and the team yell was more humorous than anything. Story-wise, Scarlet and Violet's final moments are fantastic and show their drive to get deeper. While rushed, the DLC for Sc/Vi also showed excellent characterization and change. If these were applied to a complete playthrough, we would quickly see another good story rivaling what we got in gen 5.

  • @folasade5453
    @folasade5453 27 дней назад

    Completely agree about the story and evil teams point. I personally find the trope of this misunderstood antagonist thing they’ve got going on incredibly tired. It’s not something I outright hate, but I just find it…kind of droll? Even vapid? The closest approximation to this trope that they’ve used in a recent game is Komado, though he wasn’t so much misunderstood as he was blinded by his own fear and apprehension towards Pokémon and people he felt were untrustworthy. But I found the way they wrote his character compelling, if only for the nuance that was injected into it through his backstory. But, to be fair, it’s also largely a matter of personal taste for me, when it comes to Team Star in particular. I don’t think they present a bad lesson at all, and I was actually kind of shocked they acknowledged bullying at all in a Pokémon game, but I guess I tend to prefer…grander obstacles, and for our legendaries to be relevant. To be honest, it doesn’t even have to come in the form of an evil team. I just want an antagonist or a conflict that doesn’t feel like small potatoes, I guess.
    Basically, I just want a villain to fight that really feels like a threat so it can feel like we’re doing something to ACTIVELY change the Pokémon world. It’s important to me that these things get depicted, as stories like the one in the 1st Gen, having both overt and subtle references to real life problems in our own world, provide a way for children to more readily digest and understand these issues, but not fear them, and even be inspired to make a difference themselves, as many similar stories did for me.

    Yea I miss the legendary trios sequence like groudon kyogre and rayquaza. Now we have koraidon and miraidon that don’t make sense with terapagos or orgrepon. I think they are trying new things by mashing it up all in one game and it interferes with how it’s played. I think they are rushed. A new better console needs to be made to make these ideas they want to do come out amazing

    The main series is in dire need of a performance boost. The formula they use is fine. Imagine S/V with way better graphics and no performance issues? It would be universally loved. And there is really no excuse for the performance or graphics to be as horrible as they are.
    Legends Arceus is always used as an example of how people want their pokemon games to be but honestly that game is no where near good enough in both content OR performance to be acceptable either. No online and changing the battle system hurt Arceus but its story line and gameplay were so boring and repetitive that it made the game so uninteresting.

    You should have a advantage when buying games and grinding those...
    I have the feeling, no one who participates at all the regionals and worlds has ever grinded tera raids or anything like that. They pkhex their team or let it hack by a "friend".
    For me, everytime I grind I ask myself, why are you doing this. Just ise rental or go on a twitch discord and "trade" for those mons...

    • @charzzzard6653
      @charzzzard6653 27 дней назад

      Of course a sandbox mode like showdown sounds great for competitive aspects but this is not pokemon. And I think pokemon does not want to be esport in that way.
      Pokemon wants to be the kids friendly catch em all and be the greatest game. That some adults created a meta and started to make science out of that game is paid attention by GF by adding some QOL features and stuff over the years.
      But in the end I really think it would destroy a lot of the pokemon feeling when you could just create teams without any effort.
      If you really dont care about collecting and grinding then go on showdown. Maybe they could support that to make it better but the main games should stay grindy. You want to be good at the game? Then you have to play it.
      Like in theory I could be the best basketballer of the world but I am too lazy to train... If you are not into the game then its not for you sorry

    Your number one pick is without a doubt the worst thing about pokemon that needs to be fixed. Pokemon would be so much more fun if we could just team build in game with an easy team builder mode.

    I have to wholeheartedly disagree with the teambuilder opinion. In my opinion as a long-time pokemon player and avid shiny hunter, it devalues the pokemon you catch and spend time putting effort putting into. And realistically, it does not take hours to make a team. Your knowledge of competitive pokemon teams grows over time and there are plenty of websites that can track EVs of popular pokemon, rental codes for successful pokemon teams in tournaments, etc. all you have to do is breed or catch a pokemon and then plug the EVs, moves, and natures in. I know people will disagree with me on this, but i think an in-game teambuilder would ruin the connection you have with pokemon

    • @PokeBurm
      @PokeBurm  27 дней назад +4

      I agree it devalues shinies specifically -- I think adding a team builder that can't generate shinies would be a great way of actually adding value BACK to shinies. And I'm glad you value the connection to the pokemon. I think the more you grind in competitive and the older you get, the less that matters to the average player though.

      @@PokeBurm that’s a good idea actually! That way people can still grind for the shinies and use them online, or just use a teambuilder for those who don’t care about shinies. That’s cool, also btw i love your stuff, dude! Your teambuilding gave me some cool ideas, and i’m currently working on making giratina viable

      @@mattkenney1491 Other people on this video have said this, but deciding how to spec out an individual pokemon isn't an issue, it's the resources required. You have to grind for ability patches, tera shards, mints for natures, money for EV items, and now in the new games the crafting materials so that you can create specific TMs. And that's nothing to say about iterating on team composition. If I want to try a 252spatk/252spe flutter mane, then I think I may want to invest in some defense to survive some attacks, I'm building an entirely new flutter because the items, moves, tera type etc all need to change. It heavily punishes trying new things. The existence and popularity of pokemon showdown proves how many people want something like this. Iterating in the game is not feasible, it would take hours to grind for tera shards alone. Even if you couldn't take them to tournaments, just having a teambuilder for VGC would be massive so that you can try new pokemon combos, swap moves and items, and then before a tournament you just build the single team you want

    Bruh you say modern is doing things wrong, you do not understand how evolution works. Don’t be toxic. It’s not cartoony anymore. It really wasn’t to problematic. Well we can’t just lock ourselves into not all the good stuff. You have to earn money, that’s what gives it value. Well you get a full game out of it. But they’re still enemies to you. I mean what’s so wrong with that, their’s still shops for Pokémon. Kids arn’t that dumb, they don’t get enough credit. It’s more about the world now, so it’s certainly an era. But swsh had plenty of lore to it. People shouldn’t change, they should stay true to themselves. It’s not supposed to be relatable, it’s supposed to be an escape. But the legendaries are now tied to the new gimmick. A year is pretty much enough to complete 1 of the games. It may be too late to say this, but what about unova? But you need to earn it. It doesn’t even make sense from a buisness stand point, if people just buy the team builder, then they arn’t buying games and dlcs and a subscription.
