    Jon writes a poem for every project he does, I believe "a call" is the poem for this project. The poem he wrote for vertigo was beautiful I still listen to it often.

    the fact that i'm currently living so many of the feelings and experiences expressed in the album makes this potentially my favorite album

  • @TheZxP
    @TheZxP 2 года назад +29

    This album comes off as an album that has to be listened to all at once, I think the singles of the album are exactly what they are, the singles of the album, they are the ones you can put into a random playlist and they serve their purpose, the rest of the album really feels like it's a story narrative, a poem of sorts, more of an art than a 'damn this is a banger' song found on the top 50. "No Future" was similar to this, but it had songs sprinkled about like "Isohel", "fomo" and "projector" that come off as singles, but the earlier albums like "I think you think too much of me" and "Vertigo" was much more of a you can take a single song out of the album and just enjoy it on it's own, really just enjoy each individual song. Not to say this new album you can't do that, but this one really felt different, it's unlike anything else. This one really encapsulates the idea of a complete work of music flowing together, the bleeding throughout the album was so perfect, the transition from A Call to Balling didn't sound like a transition from either songs on their own but together it flows perfectly, definitely a marathon not a sprint on this one. Was definitely enjoyable to say the least.

    I get why you don’t like this album as much as EDEN’s more pop era. A lot of people found EDEN during his pop/rock (end credits, ityttmom, vertigo) I feel like EDEN has evolved in music to his own taste. When I first found EDEN I loved ityttmom and as eden evolved I feel like so did my music taste. He helped show me that I really love alternative, hyperpop, indie music. No Future opened up the way I look at music. ICYMI is in my opinion some of EDEN’s best work. He has really become his own. If I were to describe it, it’s almost like an Alternative Indietronic Frank Ocean. Favorite album. Favorite Artist.

    • @averymacneil3822

      And EDEN hates ITYTTMOM and hated how well received it was, he felt pressured to drop it through his label and didn’t think it was even “him”, so seeing how well it was received hurt him. He talks about it in an interview that released a day before the album. He made vertigo out of spite, it was the lowest point in his life and musical career and he tried to make it purposely sound so different and hard to like to get all the “tyttmom fans” away

    • @BlueRupees
      @BlueRupees 2 года назад +3

      @@BlackEra I think he’s also moving away from that idea. He used to avoid some of those songs live but eventually got over it. He claimed to “stop being so precious about it.” I’ll bet over time in his career he’ll drop that hate even more. I’m not ashamed of calling it my favorite piece of media. I even have an rock + roll tattoo.

    The production of Reaching 2 is insane. The more you listen to it you can hear so many different elements that went into it. I can get if people don’t like this album as much others because of his change in style and vocal elements (more so than No Future). But holy shit this is the best he work he has put out in terms of the mixing and depth of sound. The more I listen to the album the better it gets.

      i agree in the sense that this is jon’s best work personally. i think with each album he’s dropped he’s grown a little bit more each time. this album really feels like something he enjoyed making and is happy with. based on interviews and such it seems that he was in a dark place when he created vertigo. then no future was him crawling out of that hole. and now we have icymi. so it may not be his most popular album or considered by fans to be his best work, but i think the album is jon maturing with his music and making what he wants.

    ultimately it's Edens decision where to take his sound, but I really like the shift in which his music has taken over the past four projects, it means a lot to me and it has kinda mirrored my growth as a person over the past 6-7 years or so, so while I wasn't actually super excited about this new album before it came out, it's absolutely grown on me and I know I'm going to love this album for a long time

    I’d probably have to listen to the album a couple of more times, but I’m really liking how you can see a bit of The Eden Project in some of these songs (at least IMO). The beats in Closer 2 and Elsewhere especially, honestly was almost expending some type of beat drop from them xd. But yeah so far I’m liking this new album! Vertigo is probably still going to be my favorite though, too many great tracks from it xd.

    i love your shirt!! also, this isn't my favorite album from jon (that goes to vertigo, favorite project ever from him is end credits), but it's really close for me. i relate a lot to icymi with the themes of grief (both for people and eras of life), as well as having to accept and let go. it's a heartwrechingly beautiful project that came out at a perfect time of my life. the poem in the beginning was especially relatable for me as i relate it to my dad's passing (which happened when i was a baby), i almost broke down in tears after listening to it for the first time. however, this album is definitely not for everyone, and i can see why it's so polarizing in the fandom (like how no future was polarizing, but i disliked no future)

    i honestly love this album as it feels like a way more refined and complete form of no future, and im really happy for eden to finally be able to release something that feels like that. ive long accepted we will never see the eden project or any of end credits - ityttmom style of music as its not just the direction eden is taking now. i know its hard to accept that which is probably why the general audience wont like this style of music which is unfortunate. loved hearing your thoughts!

      @Daryl.R04 2 года назад +1

      @mr._baum Thank you for the reply. So, regarding Eden's music, I do enjoy it. However, this album doesn't do anything for me. Personally, I enjoy the build-up and experimental of his music, like in vertigo and no future. However, in those songs in those albums, you also had a paid off, a release of energy. I believe, and most Eden fans would agree there is clearly emotion in his music. I just don't relate to it in this one like other fans of his. I do enjoy Bailing, Sci-fi, and Modern Warfare and was excited for the album. It just didn't hit my expectations that were produced from those singles
      After reading the article on his Instagram, I get the impression he wants to step back from it all and have his own space with the music, and that's fair enough. But if it's more of this, then I will be happy for his progress, but I will not be following.
