I'm not ashamed to admit, as a 54 year old who has spent the best part of half a century watching Star Wars... I teared up when we finally got to see Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Not farmboy Luke. Not impetuous young padawan Luke, or even newly minted Jedi Knight Luke.... but seasoned, experienced, Jedi MASTER Luke! We never got that. Those of us whose childhood was shaped by seeing Star Wars for the first time... that's what we've ALWAYS wanted to see.

Indeed..and for some reason they dont seem too keen to give us more scenes like that one.

Jon Favreau knew that and knew that Disney didn't deliver for us put this in the show for us. The only shame is that we didn't get to see this in the theaters surrounded by other fans.

Question for the Force. I saw the OT in theaters in the 70's--80's. I've rewatched them again and again. I watched the Mandalorian Seasons 1 & 2. I've tried to watch the prequels twice but am not into fight scenes and didn't connect with the characters. I haven't finished Episode 1. I feel like I have to know more of the lore before I can watch the Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, etc. Any tips for making it through the prequels? Once I make it through them, what next? Clone Wars? Thanks.

@@my4mainecoons338yea, you have to at least watch the prequel and original trilogies for the whole context. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka continue a LOT of storylines and characters from The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows.

      Episode 1.
      Episode 2.
2003 Clone Wars (it's not Canon but will give you lots of context about grievous, ventress, the Jedi Council, Ankin and Padme, Ankin and Obi Wan and Palps.
The Clone Wars and Star Wars Clone Wars. There's a list you can easily google to watch this 2 things in cronological order. First are a couple of episodes of season 1 and 2 then the movie then the episodes jumping all over on seasons 1-4 then ahead they go chronological I think better google the list.
Tales of the Jedi S1. Has flashbacks to times before episode 1 but think the best place to watch it with impact is this.
      The Bad Batch S 1 2 & 3
      Solo The Movie
      Jedi Fallen Order
      Jedi Survivor
      Obi-Wan Kenobi
      Star Wars Rebels

      Battlefront II
      Squadrons
      Mandalorian S 1 & 2
      The Book of Boba Fett
      Mandalorian 3
      Ahsoka
The Acolyte (this goes 84 yrs before Episode I but you might want to wait to this point to go there and The Old Republic Cinematics also this might be a good point to watch Visions, The Star Wars 80s Xmas Special and Spaceballs)
      Skeletons Crew
      Mando & Gorgu Movie unreleased
      Ahsoka 2 unreleased
      Mando 4 unreleased

I cried with you. More than you actually, & I've seen it 20 times.
Ppl waited from 1983 35+ years to see a self actualized Luke, our hero.
This is prime Luke, full power. Grand Master Luke.
We never thought we'd see him again.
The hallway scene was his Vader moment. Notice that Luke used force crunch, usually considered a darkside power(I actually don't, but that's for another discussion).
Maul had his hallway scene as well in TCW after Ahsoka frees him as a diversion.
We never saw Luke like this, & haven't since(at least yet).
Remember at the end of ROTJ when Luke takes Vaders helmet off so he can see him with his own eyes. Din taking his helmet off so Grogu could see him for the 1st time & Din could see him with his own eyes as well, parallels it.
R2 coming around the corner messed me up as well. The fact that he's still with Luke & was both Anakins & Luke's best friend is really deep, at least for me. Jon Favreau said he lost it when he saw R2 with Luke.
You should watch the making of this episode, it's on Disney plus. I don't want to spoil it for you, but they kept Luke a secret from even the cast.
You just saw the most powerful force user(at least human) & Jedi in history.
You need to watch Book of Boba Fett before watching season 3. It's next. There's a couple of great episodes in there, but nothing will ever match this episode.
Nobody knew that BOBF was a thing, Disney never announced it before, so it was a huge reveal as well.😮
I think the Luke reveal was the greatest moment in fictional TV history.
Glad I got to share it with you.
You just watched Star Wars at his finest.

Then I saw the Green Light saber and almost lost it. I was 5 all over again. Then seeing him unveil himself. What a call back to being 5 watching Return of the Jedi and completely forgetting The Last Jedi. Then the sadness of knowing Mando completed his quest and this once fierce and lonesome warrior was in pain and at loss. I was choked up at this point and then seeing R2...I lost it.

Even watching reactions to this still tear me up a little :) Man, the context that this came out in - it was Christmas 2020 which, I'm sure you remember, was kind of a shit year. Normally I spend Christmas with out of state family, but instead we had to stay home. On top of that, there were a lot of fans (myself included) who weren't thrilled with everything in the sequels.
I don't even know how to explain the sheer magic of seeing that X-Wing show up and hoping/realizing who it might be. I'm a ridiculous Luke fangirl and this completely made my year. The other thing was that it is partially what got me looking up other reaction videos and I spent that entire Christmas holiday just watching fans all over the world have the same reaction and it was something that felt really special during a time that was otherwise quite isolating.

When I was watching this episode with my dad and step mom me and my dad saw the X wing and said "well ok it could be anyone......" and then we saw the green saber and me and my father started screaming "ITS LUKE!!!!!!!" and my step mom sat there the whole time not understanding why we were freaking out cuz she's not really into starwars but bless her heart for being there supportive lmao. But yeah for like 6 months to a year the fanbase kept imagining luke training goku in a jedi academy series and them going on adventures maybe with han and leias children cuz alot of us speculated the mandoverse was in a separate john favreau made timeline where they were using george lucas version of the sequels with han and leias son and daughter and maybe luke would be training them instead of ben solo. You'll have to see later series to see what happens but to not spoil stuff for you, we are slated to get a mandalorian movie and supposedly other mando era stuff with ahsoka and some others. We're also supposed to get a dawn of the jedi movie in theaters showing the origin of the jedi order, this was already shown in comics and talked about in books in the legends timeline disney retconned for the new disney canon timeline but in recent years they've been borrowing from the legends stuff one of which was in this season you watched where ahsoka tells them to goto the jedi homeworld of tython, in legends that's the planet where the jedi order predecessor the je'daii order was formed, there were interesting origins to how the force wielders appeared on tython and it's worth checking this video out off camera if you're interested it may end up being more useful than one would have thought ruclips.net/video/aCGsO7KlPjE/видео.html

This is the Luke Skywalker that we all hoped to see in episode 7. In the fantastic expanded universe, Luke is a grandmaster and the head of a new Jedi order of thousands of Jedi Knights. this was great stuff!!

When you saw Luke slicing the Dark Troopers and you remembered Darth Vader killing Rebel fighters in Rogue One, is like father and son. Right!? 😂

Loved your reaction! For me this episode gave me everything I´ve wanted to see in the sequels as I´ve grown up with the Heir to the Empire Trilogy and the Jedi Knight/Academy games. There was always a Grand Master Luke that i wanted to see in a movie, but never got to see in the sequels... Initially when the X-Wing arrived i thought: "No way, it can´t be him! Maybe they´re playing a trick on us and it´s Cal Kestis thats coming... (because Jedi: Fallen Order had just come out in 2019)". But the way they showed us the little clues, starting with the lightsaber, the glove, his uniform and at the end the "force crush" - it was just done so incredibly well. It was 2020, probably the worst year of our lives and Luke Skywalker came to the rescue at Christmas... That was the Starwars I´ve been waiting for since I first saw the Original Trilogy as a child. And Filoni just knows what Star Wars fans want to see, especially the little details he adds make the shows so amazing. Definitley watch Book of Boba Fett before Mandalorian Season 3, but then you could watch Ahsoka...

Your excitement and just live for Luke and his arrival is exactly what everyone feels when they watch it for the first time.. there's a bunch of other reactions where people just outright cry to see Luke return - and return as the HERO we all know him to be!
    .
You need to watch The Book Of Bobs Fett next to keep the storyline going, then Mando season three.

This episode still hits hard. The music when he is first shown on the tv monitors. I heard he appeared in the show, so the shock was ruined for me, but I still loved it.

    Fifth Place! Not bad...
The look on Gideon's face when He realized Who was coming to the bridge. Bet He must of thought: "I should have had installed a suicide-shocker in my mouth to avoid capture! Oh, well: blaster it is then..." Speaking of dead men telling no tales, I kind of respect that second T.I.E. Pilot's zero tollerance stance on defectors and defeatists, pity He had to murder his colleague and die shortly after at Cara's hands. Those who live by the sword die by the sword, as they say.

Did you see in the credits... Luke Skywalker was played by Mark Hamill? The part where he walks in and speaks with Mando. Of course Mark is too old to do the part where Luke fought the Dark Troopers. That portion was done using a stunt double.

Wait really???? I thought that they had just found an actor who looked extremely similar and messed with the voice a little bit. THAT’S INSANE. Also imagine getting to be that stunt double? I’d never stop bragging about it😂

Bo Katan defeating Mando does NOT mean she has to kill him... Just DEFEAT him...She can let Mando live... BUT... She DOES have to BEAT him legitimately...
NOT saying that is what WILL happen... Just what COULD happen...
