    Please add the performer's names to your description: Gary Hoffman and Frank Peters. Wonderful performance. They deserve to be credited before the final announcement.

    I just went to this video and I was stunned by the performance. I am a big fan of Olivier Messiaen even before I delved deeper in cello learning. Love the cellist's performance. I couldn't move to another vid till this vid was done playing. 🍸

    How can you upload a performance of this quality, of this masterpiece, and not tell us who the performers are? I believe the cellist is Gary Hoffman.

      I wrote this before hearing the announcement at the end. I stand by my comment, though.

    Si deseáramos calcular la sensibilidad e inteligencia musical de Olivier Messiaen, haría falta una grúa para izar montañas.

      Hope this trend will diminish after Covid times, now that everyone thinks twice before they randomly decide to clear their throught.

    Where do I find the sheet music for this, I have been looking everywhere?

      It's a movement from the quartet for the end of time. Expensive to purchase and I don't think available separately. Still in copyright so you won't find a legal download.

    Certainly beautifully played but but those are not the slurs carefully written by the composer. And the metronome changes with the dynamics, which is a mistake. It’s beautiful but it’s not supernatural as it’s supposed to be. It’s heartily, it’s romantic.

      blah blah blah

    • @markgcarroll
      @markgcarroll 2 года назад

      There is the question of whether the slurs are bowing markings or are there to highlight components of Messiaen's mode (a 'tweak' on one of his 'modes of limited transposition') and/or the components of the additive rhythm. Also, he didn't want his 'worshipful' music played mechanically. For example, the first of the 'Vingt Regards...' looks as mechanical as this but must be played "con amore". Similarly, this piece is to be played "majestueux, recueilli, tres expressif".

    • @andreacavuoto
      @andreacavuoto 2 года назад +2

      @@markgcarroll Mark, you may be right but nonetheless the piece sounds much better with original slurs. Messiaen (or Pasquier) even noted ups and downs to avoid any misunderstanding, and the composer’s care to slur on the cells of his modes are just signs of his genius. In any case one can play beautifully even respecting the stillness of metronome…

      @@andreacavuoto Ah, I had forgotten that there are bowing markings (up and down), thanks for the reminder.

    • @pepijnstreng4643

      Messiaen's slurs and bowing markings are practically impossible at this speed, so I like the cellist prioritising tone quality. And if you listen to Messiaen playing his own pieces, he's very flexible in rhythm and tempo so I don't think he would have minded that much
