Rick once you have a few of these 5 year tests out, could you take the best driver from 5 different brands and compare again to find an overall best driver over the last 5 years? as like a final 5 year video. thanks
I play a ping G5 still w/ graphic design shaft, it is still the best looking, feeling, sounding, workable club I've hit. The G400 is the closest thing to compare. Thank you, really like watching all your videos, your description is spot on. You should do oldies but goodies, to compare looks and feel etc. Every now and again. Keep up the great work.
Never stop making these videos! You save me so much money. I have bought in tbe past G10,G15,K15 G20 and Yesterday the G30 driver off Marketplace for $30 bucks. Get's scary hitting into the green with a pitching wedge sometimes instead of a Gap wedge but I get it done. I got all those drivers cheap because of You. Thanks Buddy!
With the results you're getting from these tests I'm half expecting to see you selling something with the tag line "club manufacturers hate him..." in the future. Really appreciate you doing these and being so up front about the results you're getting!
I bought a g20 for £50 off eBay and sold my M6 after watching this. If anything it’s probably better. Also tested it against TS2 and Rogue on the range and for me the g20 outperformed them. Thanks Rick, love your videos, one of the few golf you tubers I find helpful and interesting.
I also got a G20 after watching this. If anything the G20 is straight. If you look at the bottom, the tail shape has a similar look to the newest Pings.
The best thing about Ping drivers especially from the G30 range on, is that they are super forgiving. I used to use a taylormade R1, and switched to the G30 a few years ago and later upgraded to the G. What i found was that i didnt hit the ping as long, but i hit them straighter and miss hits carried a mile.
Played a 9° G10 For a number of years until a had trouble getting it up in the air. Tested a10.5°G20 and immediately fell in love with it. I knew in minutes it was for me. Talk about easy to swing and what a confidence builder. I'd step up to the tee knowing I was going to hit a great drive. Still using it in 2020. A wonderful feeling driver.
Watched this video with interest. Went to my used club store that has all these drivers. I did something similar and I had the same suprise result. The G20 had the highest swing speed, best launch angle, smash factor and spin for me. I thought I was going to get the G30 or G SFT model but I could not get the same consistency out of them as I did with the G20. Saved me a lot of money. Thanks, Rick.
Most drivers have been very near the COR limit for this 5-yr period, so I think the improvements over time show up in forgiveness; meaning distance has improved for off-center hits, but little or none for center strikes.
Thanks for making this video. Just picked up a G20 over the weekend because I just couldn't deny the results and ease of swing. The numbers on the range, flight path, and controllability blew me away. With none even close with the newest versions
These videos are just fun to watch. From watching all the tests you've done I get the general theme that technology advances are limited but for whatever reason I still find these videos super entertaining.
Good one Rick. I still game the 8.5 Anser and love it. Would have been interesting to see how the Anser and the "I" driver compared to the G range. Never mind, next time. Cheers for that.
Would have liked to see you hit the G5? The G5 was a breakthrough driver. Bet it goes the same distance. Interesting to see that Ping have really only brought out less than half of their rivals. Although I think you have missed the Ping Anser?
Well, I was considering changing my beautiful conditioned Ping 8.5-degree stiff flex G20 for a more up-to-date Ping Driver. After seeing this video I'm so pleased to be saying to myself that my G20 is staying put and staying in my bag... Thanks for making my mind up for me, Rick..
Changed my m1 driver after a few years of inconsistency to the bubba pink g20 driver and it's amazing super easy to hit which has helped me smash my handicap by 6 shots today. Sometimes using a older driver with nothing to mess about with is a good option
I bought the most pristine g20 driver I could find because of this review and I couldn’t be happier. I had the ping G sftec driver and It just didn’t compare to my old g20. Thanks Rick!
Cornwall1888 why are you surprised? Golf club designers have been bullshitting us for years to make punters buy buy. I've stated this for years a posted my views on every channel.
Just watched this video and loved that the G20 was right up there with all those expensive drivers as I just bought a G20 and totally love it.cheers Rick
Enjoyed this test. Just what I needed. Here why. My G30 shaft broke on Monday. I decided to use my old G20 in the interim and guess what? Boom, straight and long! Uncanny. Played it again today. Same thing. I’ve repaired the G30 with new shaft. I’ll continue with the G20 for it was damn near the best performer in your test, and I concur. The wife thinks I need a new Driver, but not so sure I can find a better right now.
Great review Rick again, makes the point I have said for years there has not been any real gains in distance just forgiveness. Confidence in golf clubs all depends on how a club looks and feels to the individual. I have a friend who still has the G5 who keeps up with the rest of the field no problem.
I think Rick captures the essence of this towards the end. If you have a solid technique, a repeatable swing, and consistently hit the middle, the performance difference between drivers is not significant. However, it may be that for those who fall down on some of these factors (falling down on the first 2 tends to lead to the third) there is likely to be a greater difference between drivers depending on how they are set up.
Nice... I just got a new g25 in 2018. Kind of happy to know it stands strong with the others.. Feel like I saved 200 bucks. It was 160 brand new at second swing.
Keep in mind. I have a driver already. However, I was walking around a local golf shop and I found a G30 on sale for a hundred dollars. I bought it immediately 😂 I can’t wait to try it out. Never had a ping driver before
Interesting test. Last month I took my G30 with me and test hit several of the new drivers of different brands and it. Now I see why I didn't find enough difference to buy a new driver. I would have gladly paid $500 for a 10 yard gain but for me it wasn't there.
thank you for reinforcing my perceptions of tech vs club performance. wish you had hit the G10 which I'm still playing because I can't find anything that hits it straighter. not sure you're doing a service for the equipment selling business but i appreciate the solid info.
Really great test, keeps proving that the rules really have worked with regards to club specs. Technique and the gym it is for those extra few mphs! Titleist has to be next, final part of the big four of club manufacturers on the drivers front
Rick, I think what this test and your previous two show is that there is really no point in spending money each year for a new driver. I think if any thing, in terms of equipment, the shaft might be more important than the head. I’d be interested to see what the relationship is between these numbers and the ones you would get if you hit each club with the exact shaft you’ve previously been fitted for.
After watching this video I called up my local Edwin Watts today to see if by some chance they had a used G20 in 10.5 with a stiff shaft. The actually had it! $100 later and now its mine. Very excited to test it against my old Taylormade R580 that I’ve had since high school.
been waiting for this test to release and my gut feeling was right! sold g30, g serie and keep coming back to G20 for superb feel and forgiveness. G20 will stay in my bag for another 2 years. Thanks for your great video rick.
Thank you for recognising that many of us do not regularly hit the centre of the club. I would be interested to see a 12 to 15 handicapper do this test. I hit the Cobra F7 and it is its forgiveness which sold me on it. I can hit the extremities and still get reasonable distance and somewhere near the fairway. I am a 16 handicapper and need that forgiveness.
Rick I really appreciate you candid reviews. I would like to see for example the same Ping driver test but using the same heads mated with the standard shaft that Ping paired with the driver for a giving year. I suspect there may be more of a difference with possible improvements in shaft tech from year to year.
Thanks again Rick. Every time I think about dropping a load of cash on a new driver I watch this to remind me my G20 is still doing all I need my driver to do! Great helpful videos!!
Great video Rick. I have ordered a new G25, it should get here in about 5 days. I can't wait to hit a ping driver for the first time. Saved about $500.00 by watching this video. Cheers!!
I had most of the G drivers over the years, plus the i25. Loved the G20 and i25! Maybe should have stuck with those after seeing these results lol. I have a G400 LST coming soon.
Last year I tester the G driver an sneaky as I am, I bought a Used G30, I think I did the right think went from Callaway Diablo which was Ok but the Ping have more control. My son have started to play so I will probably buy a Used Ping, why not a G20, Golfbidder here I come..
Still have my G10 and G15. Got the G10 used after 1 1/2 from it released date. It considered used, but, still looks new. Than pick up the new G15 after it’s been out a year. Got that fitted for me. Those clubs are good enough for me.
Basically get something new if you need it, but if you don't, you're old equipment is just as good. I have a g400 because I just got it on clearance, I'll have it for years, upgrading from an 03 big ben, still have my original v steel 5 wood but got a new sim 3 wood. I like to own clubs for about 20 years.
No surprise to me at all Rick. I played the G20 for a couple of years and it was an absolute bomber for me! I only switched it out for a Cobra Fly Z, which I seem to hit straighter but the G20 may well still be the longer club on a good day. The only negative thing about it (depending on your viewpoint) is the sound, as it makes a really loud crack when you hit it. Some people like that as it makes you feel like you've mullered it, even if you haven't! 😂
Rick your data is correct to a T. I have 3 G 20's that I've played and 1 is practice only. Then i bought a Ping G series last year because I thought I should go with newer technology. The G 20 stills out plays my Ping G series, both are long but the G20 has lower spin and rolls out further & I hit slightly more fairways (10-11/14) with the G20 & (8-10/14) w/Ping G series. Good comparison video.
Love these tests! When I once had rapture v2 then tested against g20. I had 1 yard extra distance on average at the time. So... I had kept the rapture. Ping makes great clubs that last! But the marketing is fantastic... I would love to see the difference against LSTech. Since I got me one of those last year lol
Been using the G20 for almost 5 years now and it’s the best club ever I always hit it well. I am very surprised that the G20 outdid all of the other clubs
Hey Rick. Can u try the LS Tech driver to see the difference. 1 other thing. Watched the video with u and Carla and the first 4 holes u guys couldnt keep up with her off the tee. How does she hit it so far. Doesnt look like she puts as much into it as u guys were. Lol. Is it all about the lroper shaft fitting for her to maximize the distance. Thanks.
I dont think distance is changing much over the last 5 years assuming you get fitted etc...but Id love to know if the newer stuff is more forgiving across the face leading to consistently longer shots than in years past. That seems more important to me
Thanks Rick! Ive been waiting for this video and i am so surprised. I am rocking the G20 right now and have thought about getting a new driver. I guess ill just go get fitted
Excellent video. Great to see the difference in technological advancement in the drivers. For Ping it suggests only change to a new model when current Ping driver is broken. Thanks Would love to see Benross test please 😎
Another top test crazy similar with the numbers, Titleist next, then maybe a best of the rest you're favorite drivers from last 5 years!! You've tested enough keep up the good work
All these driver tests are interesting. Middle hits all appear mostly the same (except where noted), but I wonder what the performance from off-centre hits is like across these clubs. Would the older ones be less forgiving from off-centre strikes?
Hey Rick, really enjoy this series. I would love to see a the same series applied to fairway woods! As for drivers, i think Nike drivers would be a great test because they were new to the design game and we might be able to see some real noticeable differences.
HUGGGE 5 year driver test next week! Comment below who you think it may be🤔
Rick Shiels Golf maybe Nike
Rick Shiels Golf brilliant series of reviews.. your name will be mud at the HQs of Ping, TMAG and Callaway.
Titleist!
Cobra!
Titleist!!
love and still game my G20, this test has confirmed my belief that new driver tech is a ruse.
I have just bought the Ping g30 sf tec driver. I believe the club is magic because it made my slice disappear. I LOVE IT
Love Ping. So consistent. These tests are driving the 2nd hand prices up.
Rick once you have a few of these 5 year tests out, could you take the best driver from 5 different brands and compare again to find an overall best driver over the last 5 years? as like a final 5 year video.
thanks
This is a great idea
agree, good idea
Awesome idea
for what? they are all the same
@@angelgonzalez14 No, they have different names.
Love to see how the G20 would stand up against the G430 10k max!
Love these old reviews Rick. This is amazing for, second hand buyers!
I play a ping G5 still w/ graphic design shaft, it is still the best looking, feeling, sounding, workable club I've hit. The G400 is the closest thing to compare.

...please test Cobra drivers next!
Just started golf and was able to find a g 20 driver and g15 irons🎉 thanks Rick

I've been hitting the G20 for years. I broke a shaft in 1 and bought another one as cheak as I could replace the shaft. I love my G20
What I learned from this is I am keeping my old Ping driver, and not buying a new one.
This really helps a guy like me putting a new/used set together. Cheers mate. 🥃🥃
G20 is incredible. I started golf late and it is almost impossible to make a bad shot..its surreal!
Would have liked to see you hit the G5?
The G5 was a breakthrough driver. Bet it goes the same distance.
Interesting to see that Ping have really only brought out less than half of their rivals.
Although I think you have missed the Ping Anser?

Ping G20, 301 yards, £45
Ping g400, 304 yards, £350
🤔
EXACTLY!
Cornwall1888 why are you surprised? Golf club designers have been bullshitting us for years to make punters buy buy. I've stated this for years a posted my views on every channel.
Exactly!
Where can I get a new G20 for £45? (Asking genuinely)
Chris Murphy you'd be hard pressed to get any new stuff that old unless someone bought it and never used.. second hand is gonna be your best bet mate
Titleist please Rick
Tit least? lol
Ping g20 was class! I loved mine until it snapped about 2 years ago. Got a second hand M1 driver now.
Did you just snap the shaft? If so, do you still have the head?
The Ping G20 Driver is Iconic.
Probably the most forgiving , easiest driver to hit I have every played.
Just watched this video and loved that the G20 was right up there with all those expensive drivers as I just bought a G20 and totally love it.cheers Rick
I'd like to see how the Ping Anser got on. The most accurate driver I have ever used.
John Wallace yes, I too was disappointed it wasn't included. In truth it was a G series test - enjoyable all the same.
Enjoyed this test. Just what I needed. Here why. My G30 shaft broke on Monday. I decided to use my old G20 in the interim and guess what? Boom, straight and long! Uncanny. Played it again today. Rick great video I don't really see anyone doing this, great idea. I play the G25 and ping makes an excellent product.
Great review Rick again, makes the point I have said for years there has not been any real gains in distance just forgiveness. Confidence in golf clubs all depends on how a club looks and feels to the individual. I have a friend who still has the G5 who keeps up with the rest of the field no problem.

Going to revisit my g20 in the spring.
Really great test, keeps proving that the rules really have worked with regards to club specs. Technique and the gym it is for those extra few mphs!
Titleist has to be next, final part of the big four of club manufacturers on the drivers front
Thanks. Makes me feel much better about keeping my G20 in the bag longer.
Rick, I think what this test and your previous two show is that there is really no point in spending money each year for a new driver. I’d be interested to see what the relationship is between these numbers and the ones you would get if you hit each club with the exact shaft you’ve previously been fitted for.
The shaft is less important than the head by a large margin, and there are plenty of tests to support it.
Great review. Just bought a used g20 for $83.
After watching this video I called up my local Edwin Watts today to see if by some chance they had a used G20 in 10.5 with a stiff shaft. The actually had it! $100 later and now its mine. Very excited to test it against my old Taylormade R580 that I’ve had since high school.
Just going back to golf ... picked up a G20 driver for 60 quid - thanks for the tip Rick
Titleist next
+1 Liked my 910. Hated the 915. Back to luvey-dovey with the 917.
Aloha Rick, would you mind revisiting this series now that its been another 5 years? 🤙🏽
approve
I’m upset you didn’t test the Answer! It has a great head!! Love mine!!
Love your work Rick! Im a 34 handicapper and the way you hit the ball is amazing
been waiting for this test to release and my gut feeling was right! sold g30, g serie and keep coming back to G20 for superb feel and forgiveness. G20 will stay in my bag for another 2 years. Thanks for your great video rick.
What driver do you have now?
Do this on the ping irons! Would love to see the difference from g20 to g410. Thanks
I would like to see for example the same Ping driver test but using the same heads mated with the standard shaft that Ping paired with the driver for a giving year. I suspect there may be more of a difference with possible improvements in shaft tech from year to year.
Been waiting for this one for awhile now! Thanks Rick
Thx for all the great info!! I’ve had the G20 for a few years. Still love it.
Great review/comparison. More proof that golf equipment improves at a slower rate than marketing spin
Cheers!!
I have a G20, and honestly it’s the best Driver I’ve ever owned. I average 280+ with it.
same
I had most of the G drivers over the years, plus the i25. Loved the G20 and i25! Maybe should have stuck with those after seeing these results lol. I have a G400 LST coming soon.
Great test. This really makes me want to game a Ping driver in '18. But, which one? I guess the one that best suites my eye.
Since Mizuno made your top 2 driver picks, seeing how much improvement would be interesting
Thank you Rick! I’m picking the game back up and G20 is less expensive and fits my budget until I get better…
Was really hoping you'd ht the Anser driver...supposedly VERY low spin.
Me too, I have one. Yes, low spin and great consistent smooth contact ;)
Yep the Anser is..... the answer!!!
I fell for the Hype on the GX7 and ordered one. I am 65 yrs old and the GX7 couldn't even come close to my Great Big Bertha V Series driver.
Another great test and each one shows we should keep what we have until we wear it out! I have been so guilty of quite the opposite 😳
How about Cobra??? I really got a kick out of how the G20 did so great here. It looks nice. Probably a great buy for someone. :)
Been using the G20 for almost 5 years now and it’s the best club ever I always hit it well. I am very surprised that the G20 outdid all of the other clubs
Be interesting to see if there is a difference in the ping low spin options as your a little higher in swing speed ? Great test by the way
Thanks.
This test reinforces my hypothesis that the G20 remains the best overall driver over the last 9-yrs...glad I'm still using it :-)
Another great review! I hope to read more of these throughout the year
I've only being playing golf for three months and I've got the G25 and it's brilliant, highly recommended
Enjoy your ⛳️Callum!
Rick
I dont think distance is changing much over the last 5 years assuming you get fitted etc...but Id love to know if the newer stuff is more forgiving across the face leading to consistently longer shots than in years past. That seems more important to me
Thanks Rick! Ive been waiting for this video and i am so surprised. I am rocking the G20 right now and have thought about getting a new driver. I guess ill just go get fitted
Thank you, Rick. Great video on Ping drivers!
Thank you Dirk, glad you enjoyed the video.
Rick
Excellent video. Great to see the difference in technological advancement in the drivers. For Ping it suggests only change to a new model when current Ping driver is broken.
Thanks
Would love to see Benross test please 😎
Another top test crazy similar with the numbers, Titleist next, then maybe a best of the rest you're favorite drivers from last 5 years!! You've tested enough keep up the good work
This comparison made me choose a G20 and saved a bunch.
Nice vid rick!! Really enjoy these! Good job on all your work!
Fire fox Explorer 🙌
All these driver tests are interesting. Middle hits all appear mostly the same (except where noted), but I wonder what the performance from off-centre hits is like across these clubs. Would the older ones be less forgiving from off-centre strikes?
Went out with a buddy yesterday who plays with a G20 and he was absolutely crushing them.
Awesome videos mate, so well made 👍🏻
Hey Rick, really enjoy this series. I would love to see a the same series applied to fairway woods!
As for drivers, i think Nike drivers would be a great test because they were new to the design game and we might be able to see some real noticeable differences.
I use to game a i25 driver and wish you included it in your review. I would like to see Titleist next.
Great video. Would love to see you do the same with irons. I currently play Ping g5 and would love to see a comparison with current clubs.
Excellent test Rick!! Now I want to go test hit that Ping G20. I would like to see King Cobra next....thanks
Looks like could be shaft in g 20 making feel easier to hit. I feel that really makes the difference in how easy or hard it is to hit a club...
