This really opened my eyes. I was really interested in Taylormade M2 clubs now I've decided to just keep my 45.00 Callaway Great Big Bertha and learn it and keep my old Callaway Big Bertha irons and just work on my game. Thanks for the video
I will go to garage sales, estate sales, and auctions to try and get golf clubs. I currently use a Cobra RAD Speed, but also have some older clubs. I recently bought a Ping G10, 9-degree, with a +.50” stiff shaft. I was in Florida for a month and tried the old Ping and actually loved it. Great launch and distance. Not real forgiving though. Was fun to play with now and then.
Funny thing is I just did this comparison my self with a fitted driver and found very similar results. Ultimately I kept the G10 that I have currently as an extra 10 yards for me wasn't worth the 300$.
SAS Golf - someone in the comment section of Michael Newtons review of the Wilson Cortex driver mentioned a vid comparison between the G10 and G400. And Michael Newton’s review is just mentioned in GolfWRX on a Cortex thread!
Maybe a lot of people still use the g10/g15 (like myself) and want to know what ten years of product development has resulted in. By the looks of it not too much!
Simon, I was using the G10 after giving my son my Cobra F9 with a Hzrdus 65g stiff shaft 46". He loved it, I love him, so he now owns it. Love the G10, but just went on Mercari and found a G400 LST for $190. Coming in next week. This video helped me decide. Thanks mate. Oh, I like "young" you look. Your children get to see Daddy before he was a daddy.
I bought my first set of clubs for $180 last week. Had a Ping G10 driver I looked up before I bought them. Was a good driver in 2007. I went straight to the range and love using it.
i play with a set of ping g10 irons(5 thru p) , 9 degree driver and 2 thru 4 g10 hybrids these are the easy and most consistent clubs i ever played, they were fitted for me. i have for newer sets that were also fitted for me by Ping and Callaway . , but i always go back to the G10's for reliability
I have a ping G10,it feels soft and suits me better than any other driver I've ever hit bearing in mind I have never been fitted.i hit the Ping G10 230yds carry which I'm very happy with.
This makes me feel so happy for finding a G400 for $180 or so at my local pro shop. Saves me from the temptation of buying a new driver; I freaking love the thing.
Needed a new driver recently since the two I had were stolen out of my car. Seriously considered the G400 which is now outdated and can get new for around $250 but ended up saving a $100 and getting the G on eBay, which came out in 2016 right before the G400. Ive tried my friend’s G410 Pings latest and honestly there is little difference.
It should be obvious that the new, high priced models are nothing more than a status symbol for most players. Save your money and get some lessons to really improve your game.
I just bought a Ping G10 3 wood on Ebay for 60 dollars. Display model. Never been used. It's the best wood I've ever owned. Don't let manufacturers fool you. Like SAS Golf proved in the video, the G400's 5% improvement over the G10 is in no way worth the 500% increase in cost of the G400. Unless you're a scratch golfer, these distances are meaningless. For anyone handicap 36 to 5 you should buy most big name clubs 5 years behind the curve and will save yourself a lot of money while sacrificing you nothing on the course.
Simon, I love that you are willing to challenge the conventional wisdom and mores telling you to spend $500 on a new driver. Crazy. Buy a model that is generation old and save 30% - 40%. They still work just fine.
whatch the driver comparisons from rick, he has nearly 5 models in test of the years of each brand and there is really NO difference at all. The only brand which continuesly produced better drivers is Titleist and maybe Cobra. PING G25 or even G10 are still awesome drivers!
Kinda like cars and trucks, at some point you like the older model vs the new one, even though the new one has bells and whistles, you get a better feeling driving the older one.
woooov I am a new subscriber and first time watching your old videos. The body mass difference you have is amazing 9 months. No wonder you're hitting 340 yards carry drives :D Thanks to you now I am more optimistic about myself now ;)
WOW Simon... just a year and a half ago, look at the difference mate! Legit thought this was 5+ years ago, you look so much smaller and younger. Boy been making them gains!!! :
Never found a driver that was longer than my Ping Anser. Did put a Hzardus Smoke Black on it last year and gained a few yards. I think any improvements have been made to shafts and balls, not heads.
Love the channel. Thinking about fitting but cannot afford a new driver, maybe can spend 150-200 max. I have 145-150 ball speed. I play an old r9 with a stiff shaft but 10.5 degree so I get way too much height. What do you think I should look at ?
Well Simon only a few yards difference, personally I don't think it makes a great of difference to the average golfer. Pro's and low handicap golfers yes. Its the same old story people will pay 400 to 500 quid for the latest driver what ever handicap they play off.
If this dude had any idea about optimal launch and spin characteristics, you wouldnt be saying what you are. For a player with his speed, a properly fitted driver should launch between 10 and 14 and spin between 1900 and 2500. Those launch conditions would create a shot in the 290-310 range which is between 30 to 50 yards longer than that old stock G10 he hit.
Picked up a g10 with a stiff shaft for $30 while my 425 lst is getting replaced (cracked club face). Was stunned on the first drive when I basically matched what I can do with the 425.
I love these reviews. It goes to show that you don't have to break the bank for the latest and greatest to have great performance. BTW, you need to get hooked up with a lapel mic!
Simon great videos from a regular ebayer. I tend to buy from ebay to see if I like a club, I have built my bag via this method but now starting to replace ebay clubs with new ones. Recently sold two Adams fairways as replacing with one hybrid. Are older Adams clubs still popular as they seem very nice clubs.
I’ll say this ! There was nothing “cheap” about the G10 when it’s was year one new . Regardless , the G10 is still in my bag in 2024 and it remain there . Back in 2018 a round of golf I will never forget that G10 boomin like broadsides from the Bismarck .
How young do u look here? Omg only 4yrs ago dude ur barnet is impressive wish i had my hair back like urs here stresses of life hey time to spend more time doing the things we love golf 🙌
Hi Simon, I'd be looking at the spin rate and comparing it to where you struck it on the face, your decent angle was similar on both and only 500rpm of spin difference between the 2 👍
I know it's what I grew up with, but man that gorgeous ping (not the mfr, the sound) when you absolutely crush one, I love it. All the carbon that deadens the sound it just doesn't sound as good to me.
The shaft profile would affect the back spin a lot. So use the same shaft in these two heads, maybe the G10 is really not inferior to its great grand son.
I have a Frankenstein set I put together from finding good deals on older clubs lol what good is a $1200 set of clubs if you can’t even make proper contact
I find the G400 more forgiving and easier to hit. It flies higher so the shaft needs adjusting. I’ve played with the g10 for many years but switched it out for the 400.
Love the Ping G 25 3 wood with the Ping tour S flex shaft , can hit it just as far as the driver but don't lose as many balls. Just subscribed cause you review older clubs, which are much better value, you do vids with James, also interested to see how you go with the long drive. And have you just become a dad ? Cheers.
I currently play off 12 and I've recently purchased the G10 and I hoped it wouldn't be too dissimilar from current models. You perfectly explained and demonstrated the minor differences in a clear and concise manor. Excellent review; to the point with no added bollocks. Subbed 👍
Nothing cheap about a g10, great driver. But you know what shaft you are, if its correct get it. Modern equipment hasn't improved much over the years, especially the irons
+Nick Deakin yeah finding the right combination of head and shaft is important. As long as you get good launch’s and spin rate, your good to go no matter what club it is!
You are correct! The allowable coefficient of restitution (trampoline effect) hasn't changed in the rule books meaning no new driver head will go any further than before unless it is more closely matched to your swing for spin and launch angle. The caveat being metal fatigue in your old driver. The developments have come in aerodynamics, fitting (adjustability) and forgiveness.
Why not use the best shaft... Like you said.. Get fitted. Why not get the head fitted and then do the comparison? I have the G30. Gonna take something special to get it out of my bag. Maybe the 400 when they become used and reasonably-priced.
So what’s the point in making this comparison between an old cheap and a newer more expensive driver that both doesn’t fit your swingspeed with wrong flex shaft and even the Ping sft is more for slicers ... lol! Sorry didn’t get the message???
It's funny what wealthy people think is cheap. If you want to do a real test try a Wal-Mart driver for $50 vs any of the big names where even an old used one is $200. And of course a new one which is an absolute ridiculous price of $500. What kind of an idiot would spend that much money on one club? The SHAFT matched to your swing speed is what really matters anyway. Just like any other product, shallow people just have to have the most expensive or most popular brand so they can feel significant.
+Flat Effect I agree but there are lot of variables in getting the right driver and therefore getting club fitted is crucial if you play a lot. The problem is you can only really get fitted for expensive clubs which really has to change.
Your knee bend is waaaaaay too much. You lose distance because of this by having to shorten your arc. You then flick your hands through impact to compensate for a flatter swing plane, and hey presto your spin rate jumps to 4200rpm
So you are an above average swing speed golfer who barely noticed any difference. Take someone average and it's unnoticeable. You could buy a dozen of the old for the price of the new
This is a terrible comparison, neither one of these fit you! Both of those drivers are flying with the height, spin rate and distance of my 3 wood. Furthermore they are both top of the line offerings from the same manufacturer separated by several years but the G10 would be more closely related to the G400, not the SFT which is meant to produce more draw.
I'm a scratch..... Swing speed 108mph....spin rate 2500 average.....my secret? Hit up on the ball with a lower loft.... I have a Callaway xr pro driver
@John Downs www.handicaps.co.za search David Barnard member of devonvale Golf Estate. Www.wpgu.co.za search my golf results. Look on my channel and see my swing with free golf lessons.
For me new bigger head makes difference for your small inbetter (i have tsi3 and know that friends ts2 is nicer smoother 4 me) im a victim of that Bs copact head .no bulky head crap talking
@Vegas MitchellI am just going off the golf announcers that make that statement. Many many times I have heard them say the player is using a 5 iron and hits 250 yards to the green. I can't hit but 150 with a 5 myself.
such a relief to see some honest reviews. everyone is selling clubs on youtube... feels like youre watching television adverts. thanks for the video
I still play the G10 today in 2020. I would upgrade but my confidence is through the roof with the G10, I almost never hit a bad shot with it.
g10 one of the best driver ever
I've been using my g10 since I was 13 so 10 years and until I stop bombing 300+ yards drives with it I refuse to change
I used to play the g10. Loved it. Then tried the G30. I gained maybe 5 yards, but my misses are still in the fairway ad don't loose much disctance.
I still have a G10 4 wood (17*).
I have a Ping G2 that I still love to take out to the range from time to time.
This really opened my eyes. I was really interested in Taylormade M2 clubs now I've decided to just keep my 45.00 Callaway Great Big Bertha and learn it and keep my old Callaway Big Bertha irons and just work on my game. Thanks for the video
I still game the biggest big bertha. I’ve tried all the new stuff, not worth the overpriced tag.
I still game the g10 myself. I may give up a few yards to some of the newer bombers, but I trust it and find more fairways. Love your honest content!
I will go to garage sales, estate sales, and auctions to try and get golf clubs. I currently use a Cobra RAD Speed, but also have some older clubs. RayDon that quite possibly could be why then! Thanks pal
G10 is a beast
Maybe a lot of people still use the g10/g15 (like myself) and want to know what ten years of product development has resulted in. By the looks of it not too much!

Steve Harris I have exactly the same driver (G10) and love it. The shaft is a UST pro force and works well with this driver.
I've had the G10, Anser and G400...G10 still my favorite
This makes me feel so happy for finding a G400 for $180 or so at my local pro shop. Saves me from the temptation of buying a new driver; I freaking love the thing.
I only but drivers when they are 5-6 years old I get them for 1/4 of the price and they are just as good as a new driver
same... i play with the G20.... tested it against several clubs and bought it for next to nothing
same... G30 driver... can't find anything better...
Cant wait for the sim😂😂😂
Needed a new driver recently since the two I had were stolen out of my car. Yup, I can hit my Titleist 910d2 over 320 consistently. I paid 3 dollars for it at a resale shop.
I have been saying that for ages, too many people buy all the gear and no idea 😂
I noticed you remarked on the g10 peak height as “coming down with snow on it” at 49 yards,
The g400 hit 57.7 yards with no remark on being too high?
I just bought a Ping G10 3 wood on Ebay for 60 dollars. Display model. Never been used. It's the best wood I've ever owned. Don't let manufacturers fool you. It is almost 2019 and I game a jetspeed 9.5 X with graphite design. I plan to keep using it.
Westwood kept his G10 for years despite Ping bringing out new models every 2 years.
+Simon Hobbs yeah I remember that, goes to show when you find that club it’s the one.
I use the G10 woods, and the G2 driver they work well for me
I like this kind of review. The gear is very expensive.
Simon, I love that you are willing to challenge the conventional wisdom and mores telling you to spend $500 on a new driver. Crazy. Buy a model that is generation old and save 30% - 40%. They still work just fine.
One of the best vids regarding drivers I have watched,is the new club 4 x better no.,so why pay 4x as much. Great vid, well done and thank you.
whatch the driver comparisons from rick, he has nearly 5 models in test of the years of each brand and there is really NO difference at all. The only brand which continuesly produced better drivers is Titleist and maybe Cobra. PING G25 or even G10 are still awesome drivers!

It would be interesting to see you getting your hands on an old Ping K15 driver....

I had a g10 7.5 xstiff harrisson Mugen shaft back in the days. Probably my best numbers
I just started playing a month or so ago and am rocking the G10. I can hit it ok, just need to work out how to go straight now 😂
I love these reviews. It goes to show that you don't have to break the bank for the latest and greatest to have great performance. BTW, you need to get hooked up with a lapel mic!
yeah thats why I do voiceovers now, definitely makes a difference haha
Holy spin Batman!

I’m a long time eBayer Lotta savings if you’re looking for the older stuff.
I have a very old Ping G2 driver and love out driving the locals with their newest $400-$500 drivers
lol game a cobra flyZ hit it about 270+ and sneak the occasional 300 outhits their m5-6 all the time
I bought a £40 second hand g10 six years ago and still use it today
Jarsol good buy mate! Got your moneys worth 💪
Thats funny. I upgraded from my G10 (draw) to a G400 sft today!
I’ll say this ! There was nothing “cheap” about the G10 when it’s was year one new . Regardless , the G10 is still in my bag in 2024 and it remain there . Back in 2018 a round of golf I will never forget that G10 boomin like broadsides from the Bismarck .

Thanks for the sub, Appreciate it!

Could I get my Ping G10 driver reshafted in 2020?
I find the G400 more forgiving and easier to hit. It flies higher so the shaft needs adjusting. I’ve played with the g10 for many years but switched it out for the 400.
Is the GC Quad calculating your local wind conditions?
I played a 9° G10 for a couple of years, it was as long as anything I've used since.
Mike B æ
Finally replacing my G10 driver purely as a got something new very cheap, it’s lasted me until August 2023
Cheers.

You perfectly explained and demonstrated the minor differences in a clear and concise manor.
Excellent review; to the point with no added bollocks.
Subbed 👍
My G10 9 Diamana x-stiff at 115 mph spinning 2300 rpm and carries 295. With right shaft, nothing is longer.
Bought a G10 driver for £35. Wasn't getting on with my Rouge fitted driver. After one round sold the rouge and haven't looked back.
Are you next to the M1?
Just bought a g15 9 degree for £33, hoping the loft will negate the spin..!! but at £33 got to be worth a try
me too
I sold my M2 driver because I liked my 910d2 better. The only thing I’ll do is replace the shaft when I snap the original.
Hi Simon. great posting. could you compare G20? it is very low rpm head.
Hi Mate, Yeah i think we have one here, so sure I will be able to do something on it. Cheers
@@SASGolf it is cool! this is very interesting. my superquad r7 tp is still the best in distance wise. looking forward to watching new video.
Why not use the best shaft... Like you said.. Get fitted. Why not get the head fitted and then do the comparison?
I have the G30. Gonna take something special to get it out of my bag. Maybe the 400 when they become used and reasonably-priced.
First time seeing this older video. Who the heck is this guy? Hahaha you look so different now with a beard and no tan
It’s not the club, it’s the the clubber 👍🏽
Can you do the g20 vs g400 please
15 handicap is the g10 the sort of driver I should go for at a cheaper price
Just stick some lead tape, on the bottom / front of the G10, to lower the spin.
Your knee bend is waaaaaay too much. You lose distance because of this by having to shorten your arc.
You then flick your hands through impact to compensate for a flatter swing plane, and hey presto your spin rate jumps to 4200rpm
Yeah. Probably has nothing to do with his swing speed and a regular shaft.
You run a shop so you will favour the newer models, the 400 was 57 high but no comment, though i could also see you made an effort to be fair.
Who is this young clean shaven kid lol
So you are an above average swing speed golfer who barely noticed any difference.
Take someone average and it's unnoticeable. You could buy a dozen of the old for the price of the new
+sharkhark yeah definitely, guess that’s what I’m trying to show with this series.
Mr. SAS- Mathematically speaking it would seem that the G400 should be 390 better than the G10.
Hello how r u i can win that ping driver iam from manila philippines
I miss my G10 driver. After years of use the face cracked :-(
Bad times! good news is you should be able to find a cheap second hand one if you keep your eyes out.
But you hit one 4700 with the G10 - that’s strike - take that one out and they are very very similar.
You didn't mention the Offline Yds column of data. The G10 was MUCH more accurate.
Nice swing!
+Left Foot Brake thanks boss!
👍👍
The G20 has fairly low spin
I save my cash and use a 100 year old hand forged hickory shafted putter to knock in those 8 footers.. pity I can't putt, either
ok, stand still when you are presenting, the bouncing around gets a bit distracting from the message, and get a mic on the shirt so we can hear you
yeah think I got better since this video, but thanks for the advice! cheers
Como pegar un hibrido
This is a terrible comparison, neither one of these fit you! Both of those drivers are flying with the height, spin rate and distance of my 3 wood. Why don't you just swing slower, I'm sure you could figure out how to swing at 90mph consistently for test purposes.
I just wish I could understand what you are saying
For me new bigger head makes difference for your small inbetter (i have tsi3 and know that friends ts2 is nicer smoother 4 me) im a victim of that Bs copact head .no bulky head crap talking

This makes no sense at all, pros are hitting 5 irons 250 yards.
@Vegas MitchellI am just going off the golf announcers that make that statement. Many many times I have heard them say the player is using a 5 iron and hits 250 yards to the green. I can't hit but 150 with a 5 myself.
