Hi Rick, I've been watching your videos from a year now and I truly appreciate all your efforts in producing such informative and enjoyable content. I have now become a subscriber and have one word for this series....Brilliant! Thank you!
Rick, thanks for the video! I would love to see Titleist and Callaway in the mix as well. Once you're done with doing each brand you should do a most forgiving or best value club out of the top performers from each brand.
Me too... I think the Aeroburner was a big hit in the retail. I would have loved to have seen it but in my opinion, I don't think the results would have changed much.
I'm really happy to see t his video out, as I'm more in the market for a used way 6 yr old driver as opposed to the stealth or Sim 2. My ONE GRIPE is that the swings were sped up (including audio), and *that* should be labeled, and maybe all should have the last one at normal speed to see / hear a true hit (SLDR does this, at 5:17). But again, great stuff.
Rick....thank you for coming up with video like this. The companies have been doing intensive marketing towards average players like us and pressuring us to buy new new new for more forgiveness and longer distance. After seeing ur comparison video, it's quite clear for us tht we do not need to keep changing our set every year. thank you very much!
Thanks Rick, I found that really helpful, I’ve been considering swapping my old 11s for a new M3 but after watching this Its confirmed What I was thinking and I don’t think I would gain enough to warrant the huge outlay for a new driver. If we were to believe manufacturers Claims we’d all be hitting it 350yds and never missing a fairway by now.
The M3 will be my next Ebay purchase soon, The twist-face tech promises to "wrangle" mis-hits better than ever, and the sliding weights offer tunability, for now I'm happy with my R15 I found for $70 !
Loved this vlog; great to see the various driver offerings over the year in action, head to head. I would have been knackered hitting all those shots - LOL Cheer
I'm glad you did this video on the taylor made drivers I'm still cracking my RBZ tour driver 280 yard plus and I have the 3w 5w and hybrid all tour heads. I stopped buying a lot of new equipment and worked on maintaining agility and speed and body flexibility
Fitted for sldr by TM a few years ago, never forgiving. Just replaced head with M2 2017 and the difference is amazing. Same stiff fuji shaft works a treat.
lowered hndcp 4 strokes with R11S and played it happily - now play M2 and am plum happy with it ( especially the looks - personally think it is best looking ) am slightly longer with Cobra 9 nut still stick with M2 - all is arbitrary so whatever trips your trigger is the one for you ( I am 73 and still touch 290 quite often )
Thanks for your great reviews Rick. Just starting to get back into golf after only playing yearly the last couple of years and started watching your videos in the last week(Now a subscriber). I have the 460cc SLDR driver(Stiff shaft) and iron set(Also stiff) and was looking at upgrading but after looking at your reviews I think I will keep them. I believe I have been teeing my SLDR too low based off one of your other videos. The SLDR has been giving me probably the best accuracy I have ever had from a driver(Been playing since 15yrs old) but the distance isn't really crash hot. Get about 240 metres but straight up the middle which to me has been the most important thing. Thanks again especially for this video.
I love these videos! And I still play my old Mizuno driver which usually results in 2.2 to 2.4 krpm spin. I have three comparisons I'd like to see; a) Mizuno drivers b) A club-of-the-decade, for both irons and drivers from (19)-00 to (20)-20, so 12 clubs, and obviously with low compression balls (
Good test! The bigger contribution from technology is that it does make the clubs more forgiving. Will be useful if you can put the individual MOI numbers in the review dashboard to compare forgiveness v distance.
Great video Rick. Once again goes to show that consumers need to get fit by a solid professional fitter for an optimal shaft/head combo and stick with it. 5 years from now it's highly unlikely that driver will be obsolete given the current limits placed on manufacturers.
Great video!!! This really puts things into perspective with all the releases by providing a little snapshot in performance for each new club. I was going to suggest Ping but looks like you're on it Rick! Keep up the great work!
In 9 years of hitting all these different new drivers, the only one that got me 10-15 more yards longer consistently was the Callaway XR16. But I can't stand the set up look and just never felt confident enough with it. But it truly gave me more clubhead speed and distance in the simulator compared to all others.
I basically went from the R5 to the R7 and enjoyed as good of distance as anything new from any manufacturer. However after several Knee surgeries in the same knee including 2 replacements in a 2 year period of time because the first one broke, My swing speed went from 115mph to 85 to 90 tops and no more. My lower half Flexibility is shot due to the Extreme pain in my knees that I will never get my speed back. I them made the switch to the SLDR and while it did not give me my distance back it was for me easily 20 to 25 yards longer than anything else. I went from Extra Stiff shafts in everything to Regular shafts. But the good news is I was a low single digit handicap at 1 time and I am currently shooting in the low 80's , 80 - 83 most days. So if your hurt keep it up and don't give up. I will be Scratch and you can do it too. Thanks Rick.
Like a lot of amateur golfers, I hated my SLDR when I got it for Xmas 2014. But I refused to give up on it. It took almost two years for me to dial it in to suit my swing. Now, five years along, for me to give it up, you'd have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers. Get it set up right (including tee height), and it's longer than any other driver I've ever owned. Accuracy isn't its strong point, so you have to pay attention when wielding it, however.
Fascinating test, great content. I guess its ballistics in the end, if you put the same amount of energy into the ball it becomes about optimising the trajectory to achieve the best distance. I guess this is what the drive for low spin is about?
Just bought a new Taylor Made M2, 2017, right handed and with a stiff shaft here in 2021. Even though they're still being sold, the right handed club in a stiff shaft is difficult to find. I found mine on Ebay for $300. This driver is iconic and something I just had to have.
Awesome video! I loved how you were able to use the same shaft for 4/5 of the drivers. That really takes out any argument that the test wasn't fair. Looking forward to seeing the Ping video and would love if you included the ping Answer driver in that set.
I’ve had the SLDR for about 5 years. Greatest driver I’ve had for the money. I’ve been very consistent with but I agree, when I miss, it’s a crazy slice or crazy hook lol. Then again, I’ve had an old Cleveland launcher and Nickent 4D drivers beforehand.
Interesting results Rick, one thing to consider is the launch angle of each club. Given the spin numbers in the 2015-2017 clubs if you had the optimum launch you'd probably see improvements in carry etc . What this ultimately shows is the importance of being fit for clubs. Would be interesting to see the numbers if you optimised the settings on the M1 and M2.
You have confirmed what I already knew. If you are going to upgrade your driver it needs to be at least 5 years old. For the most parts club makers are selling snake oil. I compared my original Adams air assault against my r11. The only difference was roll out. I have to say I miss the crack of a solid steel face.
Would be good to do Mizuno as they haven't released a lot........800, 825, 850, ez 2014, ez2016 900!! Gotta have em all though! Keep up the great review Rick!
I think an underrated manufacturer is srixon. I have the hybrid and it's unbelievable. As many top tour pros don't use them they don't get the spotlight like TM, Callaway but would be good to see the jump in their clubs over last 5 years as i think they will have progressed every year.
Grumpy Santa I just changed from the R7 to a brand new M3. I hit the R7 the same distance. But I look so much better swinging the M3. I guess it’s all about vanity at this point.
Fun video Rick! Would be nice to see some other brands like Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland, Mizuno. Then pick your favorite from each and have a favorites shoot out.
Hi Rick ! I like a lot your videos , I have changed my driver for a R7 limited edition , it has several weights ( it has a box with several ) but I don’t known how to use them , which one offers what? Please let me known if you have a video ? To explain the different use of them? Thanks a lot
Love this comparison. Cuts through the marketing hype and shows how little advancement there really is from year to year. Happy to carry my R15 ... which I picked up for under $100.
Thx for the test, Rick! I'm still gaming SLDR. Oddly, I don't have an issue with its supposed lack of forgiveness. A Cobra test would be great, because it seems they used to be big in the driver market, fell out of favor, and have made a comeback in recent years.
Hey everyone thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed the video! If you did drop it a like and if you haven't already subscribe to my channel for free so you don't miss any videos. Plenty of comment below have asked for the Callaway video. If you haven't seen it already here it is -
5 YEARS OF CALLAWAY GOLF DRIVERS TESTED! 2012-2017
ruclips.net/video/dOoyBoHPVzs/видео.html
Rick Shiels Golf cobra drivers
Great bit of info/data, I can't afford the latest like many golf-dogs so I recently bought a second hand R15 totally in love with it.
Lynx, please😉
Rick Shiels Golf hey rick, I know Nike don't make equipment anymore but can you do Nike as well?
thanks Rick. Titleist obvious choice next. Or Ping.
Hey. You should do this again now in 2019 with all the M drivers from 1-6 and see the differences there. Great videos
Bet the M2 would be close to the top still. The M2 is amazing.
Yes! Do this
I have played my R11s for many years now! Never going to give it up! Love that driver!
R11S for me.
im a beginner I just bought the R1... I like to hear that hahahha
Hi Rick, I've been watching your videos from a year now and I truly appreciate all your efforts in producing such informative and enjoyable content. I have now become a subscriber and have one word for this series....Brilliant!
Thank you!
I've had my M2 for 2 years and I still love it!!
Aero Burner had to be in the test dude. Still see them in use on tour.
No your not
@@mrdudelove1 Look at the date of his comment bud... You're a few years late...
Its been 5 years we need another one of these
Can you do these videos again? Maybe with drivers newer than 2018? These videos are my favourite! Thank you.
Rick, thanks for the video! I would love to see Titleist and Callaway in the mix as well. Once you're done with doing each brand you should do a most forgiving or best value club out of the top performers from each brand.
John Yi He did Callaway a couple of months ago
Rick, this is top notch. Great comprehensive analysis. Kudos on one of the most thorough tests I have seen. Great value.
I still play the R9 and love it! I've gone through a lot of drivers since and always come back to the R9
I'm kind of upset you didn't use the R9, RBZ, Jetspeed and Aeroburner drivers. But great video nonetheless.
Yeah Aeroburner was and is such a forgiving driver. Also Rocketballz, would love to see how it stands up to today's M1.
Agreed
Me too... I think the Aeroburner was a big hit in the retail. I would have loved to have seen it but in my opinion, I don't think the results would have changed much.
I basically came in because I wanted to see Aeroburner
i was looking for the rbz as well
This is super helpful. It really helps me in determining if it's time to update my TM driver. Thanks!
Still using the AreoBurner driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid to this day...
Good video this. Interesting results. I've still got my R11S, still going strong!
I'm really happy to see t his video out, as I'm more in the market for a used way 6 yr old driver as opposed to the stealth or Sim 2. Thank you so much for doing this Rick look forward for you doing the IRONS as well
Thanks Rick, I found that really helpful, I’ve been considering swapping my old 11s for a new M3 but after watching this Its confirmed
What I was thinking and I don’t think I would gain enough to warrant the huge outlay for a new driver. If we were to believe manufacturers
Claims we’d all be hitting it 350yds and never missing a fairway by now.
The M3 will be my next Ebay purchase soon,

This was a great video Rick. Thank you so much for doing this test. Any others you are able to do would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again.
Would love to see Titleist 909,913, 915, 917...
What about 910?
Why on earth not use the 2016 M2?
Throw in 910 d3 because that was my old one
heres a hint... aside from feel preference... its all marketing BS
i have 2 909 d2's just in caase
Thanks Rick. That was fantastic
Loved this vlog; great to see the various driver offerings over the year in action, head to head.
I would have been knackered hitting all those shots - LOL
Cheer
Rick these videos are great . Really puts things in perspective. Keep em coming
Still using my r11s. Had it since my junior pro time. I quit competitive but this boy still does the job for me
Excellent video Rick, I still go back to my R7 Superquad from time to time
I did this same test back in January ! As soon as I get 5 from each landing on the fairway, I will post my results 😢
Lmao!! I'll wait for you
I'll stick with my R1 for now. Although I've been eyeing up an m3 for a great price online.
I'm glad you did this video on the taylor made drivers I'm still cracking my RBZ tour driver 280 yard plus and I have the 3w 5w and hybrid all tour heads. I stopped buying a lot of new equipment and worked on maintaining agility and speed and body flexibility
Had an R9 with a cut 75g X-flex adilla shaft in it and I absolutely loved it. Still have the RBZ 3-wood and it is still the hottest 3-wood I’ve used.
Fitted for sldr by TM a few years ago, never forgiving. Just replaced head with M2 2017 and the difference is amazing. Same stiff fuji shaft works a treat.

I have the R1, the R15, and a R11s 7 wood. Use the M4 currently. Love your videos Rick!
Great idea to run this experiment, nicely done
Loved it. Cannot wait for Ping as I am looking at G400.
Extremely informative, even 3 years later. Still love those white club heads!
Great video, would love to see a longest drive between the M1 460, M1 440 and M2.
Great test....very interesting results!! Would love to see a Cobra test as I used to have the f speed and now have recently bought the f7....
cant wait for the ping match up
Great series! So enjoyed watching it! I would like to see a COBRA series.
Really helpful! Well done and than you!
Good test! The bigger contribution from technology is that it does make the clubs more forgiving. Will be useful if you can put the individual MOI numbers in the review dashboard to compare forgiveness v distance.
Awesome review Rick...I'm still playing m2 and I love it

Thanks Rick, Cant wait to see Ping results.
Would love to see an updated version of this to include the M4 and M6 😁
There would be minimal change, the M4 would spin a little more and have a decent ball speed, the M6 would spin a little less and be super forgiving.

Can you do one with Mizuno drivers? Shouldn't be so many... but it would be interesting :)
Like a lot of amateur golfers, I hated my SLDR when I got it for Xmas 2014. But I refused to give up on it. It took almost two years for me to dial it in to suit my swing. Great production and analysis.
+Hobo Joe thank you!

I've been looking for a decent driver but I can't afford a newer one so these 5 year comparison videos are exactly what I need. Thanks very much Rick.

Great consistency on the sound of strike on each head. Great review I like 👌👍
These are the best videos. 👌🏻
Very informative, thanks from Holland.
My favorite two during this period were actually the Aeroburner and Jetspeed
Really nice comparison.
Putting some begginer sets together for me and my sons, I’m leaning towards the m1 after this video, might wait for your ping video
Hey Rick! Love the vid. Can you do Cobra and include the Bio Cell. Would like to see how it stacks up. Thanks
Very impressive consistency all around for your testing Rick. Maybe you could apply for Iron Byron's job...
Great video Rick. Probably confirms what we already knew in that the manufacturers certainly take liberties with their marketing.
Great test!! Lot of work went into this so thanks Rick. I would like to see Cobra or Calloway after the Ping test. Thanks
great video. love to see that all the new stuff is all just talk
Nice sky mark on the r1 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You have confirmed what I already knew. If you are going to upgrade your driver it needs to be at least 5 years old. For the most parts club makers are selling snake oil. I compared my original Adams air assault against my r11. The only difference was roll out. I have to say I miss the crack of a solid steel face.
Would be cool to see an iron comparison
Fun video. Would love to see Callaway tested
Want to see the TaylorMade 2017-2020. I bought the RBZ Black based on your SIM vs RBZ video. Would like to see the RBZ vs the others too
Would be good to do Mizuno as they haven't released a lot........800, 825, 850, ez 2014, ez2016 900!!
Glad to see the R11s I'm still useing is still good enough.😀👍
As I allways say there's alot of good shots left that I haven't used yet.😀
Grumpy Santa I just changed from the R7 to a brand new M3. I hit the R7 the same distance. But I look so much better swinging the M3. I guess it’s all about vanity at this point.
Fun video Rick! Would be nice to see some other brands like Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland, Mizuno. Then pick your favorite from each and have a favorites shoot out.
R1 still my favourite driver of the last 10 years
I can't wait to see the difference once I eventually upgrade my 2006 Top Flite driver!
Great video, I still in 2022 hit an R1 but I have the black one, looks way better than the white one
Great Video Rick ! Do one with Callaway
Proud owner of SLDR 460cc in white. Love that club.
I second the Titleist Driver test as well. Would like to see your opinion on those.
It is 3am here is Australia and I stayed up all night to see this....dont tell my boss!
P.S.....nice to know that there are lots of used older model drivers out there that still perform as good as the newer models if not better
Great idea for a video! I thought we'd see the RBZ 2 and Aeroburner. What about doing this for Titleist?
I just switched from the Sldr to this years m1. I'm consistently getting 15-20 yards extra with the m1 and hitting way more fairways.
Thx for the test, Rick! I'm still gaming SLDR. Oddly, I don't have an issue with its supposed lack of forgiveness. A Cobra test would be great, because it seems they used to be big in the driver market, fell out of favor, and have made a comeback in recent years.
Thanks Rick for your time and thoughts. Very very interesting. As always, manufacturers blurb is b.s.
Looking forward to the Ping video! You could do a Titleist video if you want to continue the series
love this one!
