    In this video PGA Golf Professional Rick Shiels puts the TaylorMade Golf RBZ Black driver test and compares the driver to the brand new TaylorMade Golf SIM Max driver.
    You have probably heard of the TaylorMade Golf SIM driver, the Titleist Golf TS1 driver, the Titleist Golf Pro V1, the Cobra Golf SZ driver but have you ever heard of the TaylorMade RBZ black driver that is available for so much cheaper than some of the other big drivers on the market!
    You won’t see any golfers on The European Tour or The PGA Tour using the TaylorMade RBZ Black driver. However in this video you will find out how good they actually are considering they are so much cheaper than other clubs on the market.

    Like a lot of other casual golfers on here, I ended up buying this club (on sale for $195 CAD!) to augment my 20+ year old set of garage sale clubs. My old driver's head was the size of a deck of cards almost.
    First time out with this on 9 holes I hit two stinkers, one half decent strike....and the best drive of my life at 270 yards straight as an arrow. I still need to work so much on my swing but by God this gives driver gives me so much more confidence.

    I’ve had an original RBZ 3-wood for many years. I’ve upgraded all my other clubs several times over, but I still carry that old 3-wood. The ball just jumps off the face of that club, and if I catch it flush, it goes nearly as far as any driver I’ve ever had. Nothing wrong with the RBZ line, for sure.

    SIM Max the best thing i ever bought and never had a club made as much difference to my game.
    Can finally be aggressive on tee shots and not worry about that occasional slice since the custom fit closed the club face at address down 1.5 degrees.
    For me its flying 10 yards further, hitting 9/10 drives rather than the 6/10 i was at before. The confidence it has given me means im now enjoying golf so much more than i was hen i was just anxious about the dread OB on the right side.

    Love this review Rick. You make excellent points. I can never understand spending $500 on a new driver if you’re just chasing those extra 5 or 10 yards. 90% of golfers 11 yards more on driver does not make a difference in your score, if you’re already driving the ball 240-250+. Accuracy is more important, for me anyway. I guess 10 or 11 yards makes a difference if you’re only hitting 220-230ish and you’re having trouble getting over water or something.

    Love the videos Rick. Just had a few things I wanted to bring up. I work in golf retail and we sell the RBZ black and will soon launch the SIM drivers. As far as price goes, the RBZ is a year or so older so it’s gone down in price as you mentioned but it’s also priced based on what’s gone into the club. The sim has a lot more technology and time put into designing their best driver yet. The RBZ was designed to be their “economy” type driver. And as far as distance, I think with your swing speed the gap in total distance is a lot smaller than it would be for someone only swinging in the 80-90 clubhead speed range. Just some thoughts of mine, love to hear your take.

    To me, 11 yards of carry (and perhaps even more total yards) is a really significant amount, regardless of the type of player that you are. I'm actually skeptical that the yardage gain was THAT large. It seemed to me he had the SIM set at about a half a degree lower loft than the RBZ, which would seem to account for most of the difference between the two clubs. I'd be willing to bet that, specs being equal, there isn't much difference in these two drivers at all.

You can find them at third hand shopped new or used but they tend to be specifically sold at DSG and Golf Galaxys. This was a great video!

    Great job as usual Rick! Being that you're a pro a less negative affect on you is expected/assumed having better mechanics than the average weekender.
    Will you do a video with a average golfer using the two drivers to see if their results off delta are similar. Oh and by similar I don't mean of your actual yardage of course 🙂

    I have two guesses as to why this is on the market: 1) potentially a limited supply of something leftover or an older model or 2) this is an attempt at the anchoring effect (economics) to use the cheap club to draw consumers to a different, slightly better, product. They would have to release sales to know for sure, but I doubt they expect to sell tons of them.

    Considering a PGA pro's swing speed can only generate 11 yds difference, my weekend hacker's speed has to be even less. Of course, my weekend hacker's dispersion is probably much higher, too 😂😂

    I have the RBZ, I used the difference on a premium driver to buy a decent set of wedges. It's all about balancing cost where I can improve most. Had it for a year or so and it goes fine, the shaft doesn't quite feel right but I like the adjustability of the head. The grip I agree is too small and feel weak which when I can be bothered will be re-gripped to a larger one. Definitely for the money the best driver out there I think. I refuse to pay big bucks for a few yards, more interested in dispersion. I do love the way it sits and looks behind the ball too.

    I bought this driver and absolutely love its traditional looks and believe it to be very good quality for the price of £130. It features a good quality shaft i.e Matrix Ozik white tie 55 gram. I tested it in the shop against my old driver RBZ stage 2 and it beat it hands down. It feels wonderfully light to swing. With the money I saved I put it towards purchasing one of Tony Clarks Planeswings online which as a result of the swing improvements this has produced has more than compensated for the 11 yards difference.

  • @JakeSkillman

    I'm surprised he scoffs at 11 yards, thats easily a club length into every single par 4 you would ever play with the driver. You're not paying for 11 yards, but for the thousands and thousands of yards you rack up over the time with the driver.

    • @mickym.6711
      @mickym.6711 4 года назад +1

      Yeah. Honestly 11 yards is a big deal.

    • @dustinkooyman2945
      @dustinkooyman2945 3 года назад

      Yeah for the pro golfer that plays for a living and can constantly hit the ball 280-290 yards that 11 yards is a big deal. But as he mentioned the weekend golfers that hit it 220-230, those five yards might not be worth the price point.

    Great that you are demonstrating that golf doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive, and that pretty good equipment can be bought for reasonable prices. However, I can see why new clubs cost so much when you consider the R & D and tooling costs that go into them. Plus, the marketing, and sponsorship.

    Hi Rick. Here in Quebec Canada the SIM MAX sells for 649.99 and the RBZ 2.0 Black is 195.39... For 11 yards and a difference of 454.60 I would go with the RBZ if I were looking for a new driver! That is 41.32 a Yard more for the SIM!! Love these "Secret Clubs" Videos!! Just goes to show us that we don't need to pay big bucks to get some decent performances.

      Stephen...if the Sim came out at $299 or $349...the volume of units sold would make up the difference in price. Why shouldn’t I wait and get last year’s model this year at half the price? Oh wait...that’s what I’m doing.

      Wife bought me the RBZ black for Xmas, got to say I love it and the fact it’s so cheap compared to premium drivers is a bonus! Feels great to hit and looks great. No way I could justify an extra £270 for 1 club to gain 11yards! Just not going to happen I’m afraid. Great vid as always rick!

    • @stephendibari7704
      @stephendibari7704 4 года назад +1

      MadMan 845 I agree with you. The prices are ridiculously high for a new release product !
      Look at a new vehicle as great analogy. On average After 3 years a new vehicle is only worth 58% of its original retail price ! 42% depreciation!
      New golf driver is worse. They lose 50% within 2 years and nearly 75% at 4 years !
      The masses are stuck on getting a NEW driver every year ! I think the general rule of thumb is a five-year window for replacing a driver, Where you see the technological gains

    i bought a Mavrik Max to replace my RBZ 2.0 Black driver. I dont see enough difference to go through with it though. So, Im gaming 2 drivers lol. Its amazing how well the RBZ line has held up, nearly 10 years now. I keep trying new clubs, but I have no reason to get rid of my driver and 5 wood. So simple, yet they work so well. The upscale shaft, R&D (RBZ shown here is a simple design shape/concept used by many past drivers), marketing, and manufacturing (lots more types of metals and processes go into the SIM driver) are what ramp up the prices of the flagship products. For most consumers who aren't low handicap players getting a cheaper driver plus a fitting for swing-weight/shaft/loft/lie-angle and swing lessons is the way to go or if you want the new stuff wait a couple years and buy it at a second-hand shop (online or IRL). You'll save yourself $300-500 and some headaches along the way
