Julie is a simply a living Wonder Woman: an accomplished musical historian, consummate performer with an astonishing broad vocal and instrumental range, and, a supermom/wife (from what I hear). From snowy upstate New York, I tell my daughter, "Here is a universal woman who gives more than she takes, and lives what's in her heart - learn from her."
@@richgouette Not live, but I've followed her for some time and have been impressed with how she seems to navigate the various aspects of her life. It would be hard to think that any of what I've observed is manufactured.
Thank you so much for your work preserving the music and language of our ancestors; your American cousins love you for it. Your stunningly clear voice is the perfect instrument for this work of yours. It's because of people like you that we get to hear the language of our ancestors that was taken from us so long ago. Thank you thank you thank you.

According to Spotify I'm one of your top fans this year, I'm "in the top 0.005%" by plays. Anyways, thank you for inspiring so much of my year and for all the amazing music!
Everything Ms Fowlis performs seems a thing of beauty - 506 likes for a song in Scots Gaelic in only 18 hours! Plenty pride in Ireland as well - she has so many wonderful full pf joy performances with Irish artists and apparently she's fluent in Irish also.
Thanks Julie! I listened to a recording of yours earlier today with Le Vent Du Nord in addition to this. Just starting the day the right way! Merry Christmas ⛄🎄🏴❤️ Boidheach!
So beautiful, and the song is beautiful too 😊😁 Beautifully authentic though. This could DEFINITELY be used in BIG BUDGET film scores, WITH Julie singing and performing of course.
Thank you once again for sharing the beauty of trad Gàidhlig tunes. Listening to your music, among other artists', has helped me come to peace with my work reconnecting to my Irish heritage -- I know this is Scottish music, of course! But I know the languages, Gaeilge and Gàidhlig, can be very similar, and share similar histories. Your music, along with Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's and Kathleen MacInnes', has been the brightest highlight of my year, and has only further encouraged me to put my life to protecting at-risk languages. Tapadh leibh :) 🇮🇪🤝🏴 Ár teangacha abú!
Sublime. Thank you, also for the history of the song. Thanks to you and Christine Primrose my interest in Gàidhlig got rekindled (after beginning with it in the 90s in Berlin and then NYC). I'm learning it daily now. Your language on its own is music to my ears! Advent greetings from Wisconsin. Bernhard
Watching this on the app on my ipad pro, I see no history lesson. I see nothing at all in fact, it’s blank until about 45 seconds in when I at least get to hear the song. Beautiful as always Julie, you are truly a national treasure. Your american brethren with the heart of a celt!. Phil.
This is a great song. I wonder if it could be adapted for bagpipes. The pedal tone from the shruti box reminds me of bagpipe drones, and I was thinking a band could play this for their slow air - but I don't know if it would translate, if the beauty and character would be preserved on a bagpipe adaptation.
Isn’t it funny how history unfolds itself as music and legends are born. As always Mrs Julie very beautiful. Rare it is that not only the tune, the voice, and the Lady all be beautiful.
Right after Christmas Dinner I'll sit in my favourite armchair by the fire listening through my earphones to your good self Julie ,Duncan Chisholm ,Rura ,Skerryvore ,Ross Ainsley ,Talisk , Ainsley Hamill , on a loop to full my head with Scottish voices and music ,,content for a while in a year of torment and struggle
All your music calls to my soul. Please keep recreating this beautiful music and songs. My family was from Scotland, but recent DNA shows my English, but I won't say anything.
What is in a good heart always makes its way out to us. Here with just a simple melodium accordion Julie lets her heart speak. That is the mark of a great but humble and modest artist. She has been doing it for years. Her smile at the end of this sublime piece says it all. Simply beautiful.
Beautiful as always and thank you for the context. I love seeing how many people are listening from all over the world! Wonderful! I'm hailing from Wales, UK. Diolch yn fawr Julie
Hello Julie, l have been a fan a few years now, spanish speaker mainly, l find that a lot of the traditional songs you sing are only in gaelic wich is very difficult to me, there is not a lot of material, lyrics and stuff, and l would like to help preserve and share these beautiful songs to spanish speakers who are unfamiliar with history and the language. Would you be so kind to help me out with some songs and translated lyrics if possible? l can translate from english to spanish but l do not know how to translate from gaelic.
