I wouldn't be surprised. They have great potential, but I'm sure some people would be concerned with privacy if they came standard. Unless they had no network connectivity at all.
I think it really comes down to the car it's going on and the color of the car because some people's vehicles make the black/yellow legacy plates look good
@@technically00 I placed my order 2 days ago on for the battery powered one. I decided to go with the monthly $19.95 plan.. I only got an email for order confirmation that day, but no other emails. What’s the next step?
@@thewiseguy7100 For the RPlate Pro, you're supposed to get an email that helps you schedule installation. I'm not sure if the same would be said for the battery-operated plate since it is supposed to be user-installable. If you don't receive any instructions by the time you get your plate, I'd contact their support.
Great questions! You still need to have a normal state-issued plate on the front. The RPlate would only be for the back of your vehicle. Law enforcement is aware of these plates, so they will not pull you over unless something is preventing them from seeing your plate number or if your tags are expired.
What happens if you bump into it while backing up to a trailer? Or what about unloading sand and gravel out of my truck it all falls on the step bumper. Me and my trucks work for a living so naaa I don't think so.
Everyone's use case is different. It's prone to damage just like any other part of your vehicle, but given the description from the website, Reviver took all things into consideration and made it perfectly capable of rugged use.
This has got to be one of the stupidest things I've seen to blow money on. It is the opposite of the high end vehicles I've seen with just the standard plate.
I'm sure if it gets stolen, you could request to terminate the contract and they would just deactivate the stolen plate so that it couldn't be used again. But I would double check with them on that to be sure!
My truck came with it and I took it off. I am not going to pay someone to be able to track me. Yes it's subscription based. I already pay registration. That's enough.
Yeah, although I wasn't able to show it because my license plate number would be exposed, the Pro model is front-lit. The Basic model does not come with any built in lights. Hope this helps!
can you change the license plate design, like if I have the standard plate design on my original plate, can i change it to the 60s vintage or other types?
Good question! Unfortunately, it will just retain the default license plate style of your state. For example, Reviver's website shows that an Arizona plate would have a picture of a cactus on it, as that seems to be their standard plate design. Hopefully in the future as more people adopt this, there will be more customization options!
Theoretically, you could uninstall the Rplate and put it in your new car and everything would transfer once the registration is complete with the DMV. If the Rplate stays on the old car, the plate number and tags would be removed if you transfer the plate number to the new car.
A lot of newer vehicles have these same "features" so I see this as an easy way to bring older vehicles up to date without messing with a separate dashboard electronics module or new fancy ECU. However, there's no need for all these security features or LTE connection for someone concerned about personal privacy. These specific features are very big brother nanny state and doesn't suprise me commiefornia was first to fully adopt this technology. What's way more useful is having it look cool and different than a standard plate. It's not hard to buy the LCD screen separate and put some plexiglass around it and connect it to an RaspberryPi and do just that to get the same effect 90% of the users actually bought it for. I feel sorry for any of the suckers freely giving away their privacy for a cool looking license plate.
The only downside about trying to make your own version of this the way you mentioned is that it wouldn't be street legal, which means you're likely to get cited for having a non-regulated plate on the back of your car. This plate is DMV-approved, which is why authorities won't give you a hard time for having this mounted on your car! There are definitely pros and cons to getting this, like some you mentioned
THIS IS A JOKE!! A TOTALLY NON NEEDED EXTRA COST THAT NOT ONLY COST YOU MONEY FOR SOMETHING YOU DON'T NEED ( REGULAR PLATES HAVE ONE SIMPLE FUNCTION) BUT IT IS ALSO A TRACKING DEVICE AND WILL BE THE WAY YOU START GETTING CHARGED A TAX FOR THE DISTANCE YOU DRIVE!! Don’t need or want one. But do you get the front plate also…
Unfortunately you will only get a rear plate as these are not legally allowed to be mounted on the front of your vehicle.
Does it have a printer in the back where it prints you out tickets as they track you speeding
Nope! Maybe they'll include a printer in the future 🤣
Are the plates only subject to the black/white or white/black options? Can color also be customized? Red/black
The plates themselves only come in black, but you can alternate the color of the display between black on white or white on black!
My truck came with it and I took it off. I am not going to pay someone to be able to track me. Yes it's subscription based. I already pay registration. That's enough.

@@technically00 The pro version to be lit makes sense as it's tied into the car's battery for power.
Is it easy to get everything set up with the digital plate with your license plate? Do you have to take it to DMV
It's super easy, actually! You just need to have your registration handy during the setup process.

How to purchase the wired version?
I hear when the car stops at a red light, you can display an ad? Is this true?
This is incorrect! The plate doesn’t have a feature for ads.
Does it include both front and rear plates?
Rear plate only
No, just the rear.
What if you purchased a new car and wanted to transfer tags?
Theoretically, you could uninstall the Rplate and put it in your new car and everything would transfer once the registration is complete with the DMV. If the Rplate stays on the old car, the plate number and tags would be removed if you transfer the plate number to the new car.
How does the battery charge?
The removable battery doesn't charge, you would just need to replace it. The tethered plate draws power from your vehicle.
I REALLY want this, but I can’t justify the amount.
