"David faced his illness with dignity, grace and his customary humour. Even in dire circumstances. When he wrote to tell me he had cancer, he said 'the good news is I have my cheekbones back'. David, you were mortal but your potential was superhuman and your remarkable music is living on. We love you and we thank you."
I Cried My Eyes Out.That was a tribute. So touching.Full of emotions and true love for David.

+Des Slye Gaga's tribute was amazing as a standalone, strictly about-Gaga performance. It wasn't amazing as a tribute. Her pageantry kept the focus on her, not on David and his music, and she turned the man's death into a profit-mongering advertisement for Intel. It was very disappointing. I'm a little monster, I love her work, but I've been a bowiemian a lot longer and her tribute was not a tribute to David, it was a tribute to Gaga using David's music. With as much talent as she has, she could have conceived better than the commercialisation of David Bowie's death. The BRITs tribute focused entirely on David, didn't make a frivolous show of things, AND it included people who were actually close to David as well as allowed HIS BAND to play. Gaga's performance was entirely for and about her, not about David. So as amazing as Gaga is, her tribute to David Bowie was not amazing - it was a noxious mess.

As an American, I feel that the Grammy's should be ashamed! I understand that Bowie was British but the guy was a legend and his music was transcendent, plus he lived in the states for half of his life. I never watch these shit awards shows but as a Bowie nut, I figured I would watch the Grammy's this year for the first time hoping they would honor this man and they did not. Congrats to the Brit awards! Well done.

+erick medeiros No worries, the entire WORLD was disgusted and the Grammys were SHAMED for the disrespectful corporate advert The David Bowie tribute turned into. NO ONE in the music industry, his colleagues, the global artistic community, credible media, his friends and family, the massive global Bowie fanbase NO ONE endorsed it. EVERYONE has now expressed deep gratitude for the Brits PROPER and distinguished tribute to his CULTURAL LEGACY. Yes, they could have done even better, but THAT is the nature of corporate driven awards shows, it's all about profit margins and the core commercial demographic$$$

David Bowie's own family, friends, colleagues, industry peers, musical collaborators, the credible media, and his massive international fanbase have overwhelmingly endorsed the Brit Awards Tribute to his Legacy; for being AUTHENTIC and significant to his career. REAL people, who knew and worked with him, that HE RESPECTED and loved. Unlike the Grammy fiasco, that was universally panned by all of the above groups and individuals. The Grammy tribute was a disgraceful and disrespectful corporate endorsement that didn't even qualify as an artistic tribute. It was a disgraceful attempt to cash in on ratings and corporate advert(Intel) using the global media frenzy over his death. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time....

Wow. Just seen this for the first time and oh man, you can really feel Annie and Gary's emotions so strongly.
Not to mention that hug that I'm sure they both needed.
I can feel them both battlin to get through their speeches smoothly and resepctfully without getting too upset or losing momentum. And given the length and passion of what they both had to memorise and then later deliver in front of such a huge crowd - and especially as this was so soon after David's death: it;s blody impressive.
Congrats to them both and the awards could hardly have chosen a more perfect pair to present this.

Bowie meant so much to me as an artist-from a young age, his music captivated me. I didn't always like or agree with his musical direction (it's a matter of taste, obviously), but he was an incredible chameleon, able to change and adapt with the times, and provide some truly unforgettable sound, and vision.

Oh Annie. I've always loved you. You said so much in so few words. I'll never forget the two of you performing _Under_ _Pressure_ in the tribute concert. It was a highlight to me in a career full of incredible performances for both of you.

Annie Lennox performed "Under Pressure" with David Bowie in the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Annie wore a black/silver dress to symbolise death/Aids, David Wore a green suit to symbolise life. In the end of the song annie hugged him. Showing when freddie died. I would love that annie would perform a version of that for bowie

That really was a tribute, not the Lady Gaga one, ot was very good how Gary and Annie gave it, David is an icon and a legend, and in the real music, his legacy would never die, I'm so proud to this tribute

Gary is right, he had a potential of superhuman, for he was like not just a human, he was otherworldly, Gracious and dangerous, diverse just everything about him. ❤️

This woman is surely one of the most irritating people on the planet. Nauseating, sanctimonious, pretentious. The irony of awarding an Icon honour to Bowie is lost on some people. Bowie was an iconoclast and would surely have considered this precious, self-reverential drivel worthy of ridicule. Oldman nearly saves the show.

To all of the lexicographers out there in the world: include Gary Oldman and Annie Lennox in your latest dictionaries as examples of class. To anyone at NASA, ESA, and JPL: be the first to discover a new heavenly body in the universe and name it after David Bowie. To any mathematicians out there: take the five symbols under the black star under his latest album and see how many combinations can you make by placing each symbol around the large star. It almost seems like a Divine Proportion or Golden Segment. To everyone else touched by his music: find comfort in his songs and may they lift your spirit whenever you feel alone.

It's incredible an actor pays tribute to his famous artist who is David Bowie. I'm not a fan of Bowie but, I can imagine how shocked the music industry was because of his death.

I steady myself for the naysayers and haters:
But in my opinion, having known what I know from seeing past interviews and previous awards bestowed upon David Jones, that he saw himself as a artist, and always decried the term "ROCKSTAR", he hated awards and pomp and the cult of personality.
Of course something should have been done to mark his influence on people's lives, but imho, Mr Jones - who disappeared in ashes just hours later with no fuss - would have preferred we didn't troop out the tears and dramatics, albeit well intentioned, missing the point of his life/work by miles.

Bowie didn't write Space Oddity in response to the moon landing. He wrote it as a prediction for what might happen. That's why Major Tom's fate is left unknown; so that the song would always be relevant.

There are only few men that I've cried for in my life. Actually I hardly cry. I did cry, but it was the cry of recognition and gratitude for everything David Bowie gave us.
I also cried during Lady Gaga's tribute at Grammys and I don't really get the hate or comparison she and Lorde and Gary Oldman and Annie Lennox get here. Can't you just accept that different people express their love/friendship/admiration/inspiration in different terms?

  • @RenePeraza
    @RenePeraza 8 лет назад +2

This is how a tribute is done! Not like the campy disgrace Lady Gaga did at the Grammy's this year. The Grammy's couldn't even honor him in life properly when they gave him the lifetime achievement award a few years back, simply mentioning him at a commercial break! Two missed opportunities, sadly.

Why did they cut the video post off here? Gary was about to announce the incredible musical tribute with the astonishing musicians that played throughout David's career........WTH? Regardless, excellent tribute from the Brits, Annie and Gary, in stark contrast to the shameful Grammy debacle that made NO MENTION whatsoever of David's passing or Iconic musical legacy, it was merely a deplorable corporate ad for Intel and The Grammys cashing in on increased viewership$$ from David's death. Now go see the musical performance that was cut our here, apparently it's on in full at Slate.com, see Bowiewonderworld, or Bowie's official site for links

I don't need no tribute. Know why? Cause I've got all of Bowie's magnificent discography a fingertip away. And who would possibly choose this over that? Bowie announced it way back in 1971: "I'm living on". You just have to press play.
