It is a metaphor for the analog to digital age ..and how we slowly traded our humanity souls for our little digital masters ...and here we are ...40 years later
This song is now officially 40 years old and having heard it randomly today in a Trader Joe's in LA I realize it more perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being in your 40s in the year 2024 than Mr. Kershaw could have ever imagined.
I randomly heard this song today in a truck stop coming home from work I almost didn't stop there but decided to anyway although they didn't have what I wanted the fact that I got to hear a small bit of this beloved classic definitely made the stop worth it this was a song I completely forgot about but love love love very much. Still rocking Nik Kershaw in 2024 baby.
Was reminded of this song while playing Song Pop this a.m. I really liked this song in Pretty In Pink. It was just one of those songs you sang while watching the movie for the zillionth time.
40 years huh, can it have been that long already? I suppose so. The world seemed so different then, but I was just a child and so very naieve about everything. Well at least I'm young enough to know that everything taught to me was a lie and I'm not too old to do something about it. Hahaha!
I’m not sure if Nik could have possibly known how this song allowed me to feel my emotions as a teen being abused almost daily. Over 40 years later it still allows me to release emotions related to complex PTSD suffered throughout my life. The recent healing merges with the memory of those who bullied and abused me and allows me to remember that those days are no longer present. It reminds me that I can show my emotion in a safe place…..finally without repercussion. It reminds me of my growth. It allows me to revisit my pain and appreciate that someone felt as desperate and lonely as myself but never gave up and kept fighting. I love this song so much.
When I discovered this song in the 90s, I was blown away that 80s music could be that "deep" and profound. As a grunge loving 90s music kid, we all thought 80s music was vapid and silly. Oh were we wrong....lol Now I know better...thank you Nik ❤
Haven’t heard this song since grade 1 or 2. Besides being emotional right now, this is a brilliant song, musically speaking. Amazing chord progressions. You can hear that craftsmanship of real musicians.

I got it bad You don't know how bad I got it You got it easy You don't know when you've got it good It's getting harder Just keeping life and soul together I'm sick of fighting Even though I know I should The cold is biting Through each and every nerve and fiber My broken spirit is frozen to the core I don't wanna be here no more Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes Even if it was for just one day? Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away? Wouldn't it be good to be on your side? The grass is always greener over there Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care? Can we go back to the 80s? I was a kid in that era n i loved this song..this n old school duran duran. Beautiful free fun times 🎉 and this imspired my music thank u Nik
I remember a station in Houston, TX that used to play this a good deal in the late 80s and early 90s, and I just fell in love with it then and it's now a great 80s jam song for me. Excellent tune.
The 80s in my town were so much calmer. Life was easier. Expectations were obtainable and community based. Humanity is more connected than ever now yet it is the most lonely time in human history
Thank you for all your years of service to the music industry! This is still one of my favorite songs. How did you ever write/compose this masterpiece? I still don't want to be here 'no more. :-)
I loved this since I first heard it come out on the late night Video Rock show. This song is still perfect and the video still matches the vibe of the space visitor who absorbs and reflects the traumas of everyone he meets until it drives him to flee. I always hoped it meant he’s returned home at the end.
Time goes by. I was 30s then. Now I'm 70s. I learned 1 thing from this tune, there's no such thing as love, you all just feel sorry for each other. Poor bastards😉😉😉. Coming from a real alien waiting for the lift. ❤❤❤
me too, this is one of the strangest music video i ever saw in my whole life, im 55 years old and still without understanding thi video, and the song is a really good song,

"I don't wanna be here no more.

As a kid who grew up in the 80s, I couldn't agree more.
Me and you both 👍.
Amen!
The nostalgia overload on this one is so great it's almost painful.
❤❤
it's cause you are REAL!
Lol...WTF is WRONG with you
Oh I agree!
It sure is. The nostalgia.
2024 people here? Or am I the last living person in my generation? Love the song so much…❤
Not the last 🙂
Im watching Pretty in Pink right now. They just played this.

Heard this song yesterday while leaving Red Lobster. Reminds you of all the great music that helped make the 80s.
A super market (feel good in aisle 6) staple - heard it in Publix yesterday afternoon…

The 80's needed this song today!
The 80's have the best songs!! The English bands really made some great music. I love this song too.

I love this song and “Pretty In Pink.” Thank you, Nik for this! Part of me wishes I could freeze the ‘80s.
I’m 26 and this song defined a large portion of my childhood
My favorite song and video of the 1980's. Everytime I listen, I'm 15 again.
Wish i could go back the times were so simple and people actually met face to face...and i would have my mom still alive...RIP mom
I was 17 and a senior in high school. Wish i could go back. Best times of my life.
Love this classic. They sounded good at Live Aid too.
Brilliant! Overlooked classic. Never has video and music have meshed better. An awesome achievement!
still remember the feeling of this being brand new, and loving the crunchy guitars mixed in with new wave keyboards. brilliant song! i was 15 or 16
Music is the closest thing we have to a Time Machine.
Very well said!! ❤
Yes it is
Yep
This is the most profound thing I have read on the interwebz today. Thank you this is quite true when you think about it.
So good to hear this again. I was in my young 20s. MTV was new. In fact the whole world seemed new.

I feel like I was born in the wrong generation, 80s music just hits so different. I'd trade being a 90s kid again to be an 80s kid.
Song my head today. Helping friends with their issues and barely handling my own. But I will not trade places.
Broken Wings, New Girl Now and this. All time classics
I love this song and Nik Kershaw forever!

Great song.❤
If the sax 🎷 player is reading these comments, then kudos 👏 to you. That solo at the very end was a masterpiece.
Conceptually, this video was very creative. They don’t put this kind of effort into making music videos anymore.
Yeah, like the suit. It showed bad stuff of everyone he looked at or passed. Like a psychic suit
This song resonated at age 13 and still hits at my heart for the truth in it. ✨
Dancing in clubs to the greatest 80s ❤️great time
One of the greatest videos ever made. An even better song.
that song helped get me through a rough time. Thanks, Nik for it. ah, the power of music!!
Gonna be 55 March 18th! Miss the fuck outa the 80’s!!! This song sums up how I feel about this hellish shit show if the country now🤯🤦🏼♀️

Stay out of my shoes

The heat is stifling
Burning me up from the inside
The sweat is coming through each and every pore
I don't wanna be here no more
I don't wanna be here no more
I don't wanna be here no more
