I have the same jeep you have, Thank you for show clearly the location of the part and what to move to make a little more room. Thank you for making time to do this video.
I just got this done. Bite the bullet and take the passenger side valve cover off after removing the passenger side spark plug wires and coil wire, the exhaust manifold heat shield, and radiator overflow tank. Once this is done, your hands have plenty of room to fly blind. Use one of those mini ratchets with an extension with a 1/4" allen head to break the mounting bolts. If you have the original 3/8 inch thick sensor mount and the replacement is 1/8 thick, go get two 1/2" hex head bolts rather than the 3/4" bolts that you take out of the engine. I think they are 5/16 x 24 coarse. You can check them at the hardware store if you bring the originals in. This was by far one of the biggest POS jobs I have ever done! I tried to do it with the valve cover in place but finally said screw it and removed it!
+Jose Nevarez after my 93 died in a major intercection during a funeral procession i have been working to get her running. this video helped so much im changing the sensor now
Yeah I just went out least it's in the yard. 287000 she's a good old truck think I'm just gonna cut a hole in the floor board and peel it back make it easier myself....
Outstanding .... Video makes all the difference ... far superior than Digital Photo ... I am replacing one in a 1993 Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2L like one shown in video .... If I may add remove Vehicle computer 3 nuts bracket & computer all in one out of your way for Far better access ..... Note a Rubber U shaped Grommet goes around new CPS to keep out debris ... mine was totally destroyed years of use .... Dealership told me grommet was for Factory alignment NO need for same HOWEVER I totally disagree .... without some sort of grommet Road dirt / oil will find its way down new CPS and cause premature failure .... I am taking OLD Grommet as a template and making a New One and Install ... My two cents worth ... hope this helps all whom are taking on this Repair
Very helpful video but how were you able to break the bolts free that’s holding the sensor in place? I don’t see how there’s enough room to turn the Allen key let alone break away the bolts
I have a 95 Laredo and I just installed new fuel pump and filter.when I come to a stop while idling it acts like it's gonna stall and sometimes does o also while driving it starts shaking and when pushing the petal I get nothing? is this because of the crankshaft sensor?
check your trouble code, first. turn the key from off to on 5 times (without trying to turn the engine over) and watch the check engine light. it will blink out a code, write those numbers down and Google them.
At 2:58 you can see me touching the plug your looking for. It may be on top of the bell housing or possibly on the driver side of the bell. You can see how long that plug is so, try to look in that range of area around the bell. Good luck!
nice to see i dont have to do what i was afraid of doing, but is this possibly the cause of the vehical just dieing out of no were like is the ignition had been turned off with out warning? mine did and isnt getting spark and the fuel pumps not even kicken on anymore. i was just driving it around the other day with no issues and this happend......
+Jose Nevarez funny u mention the egr valve, right after it died and i attempted to started it back up several times. i poped the hood and heard some clicking and the egr valve siliniod was going nutts.....
It turned out to be reachable by standing on the driver side and looking behind the block. I had my stepdaughter pull on the sensor while shining a light up there.

David Nick sorry I've just seem this but, from all my research, I'd say it IS possibly the CPS. Alternately, it could be the EGR valve...I hope you've resolved your issue by now!
Best video by far showing exactly where the sensor at.
Most helpful video I’ve seen yet . Every other video was dark blurry camera angles but you got it focused right on what we need to see. Thank you
I have the same jeep you have, Thank you for show clearly the location of the part and what to move to make a little more room. Thank you for making time to do this video.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful!
Thanks for sharing. This is by far the best video I've seen on.

Really good video! Answered all my questions, now all I have to do is become "Rubberman" and figure a way in that ridiculous location!
But I showed you EXACTLY how to get to it!?
@@v_twin_villain I know, I am just saying it is in a hard place to get too. You included the most info on this!
saving lives and many a stress level with this video man .
thank you
This is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you for the specs especially!
Thanks dude ..i knew where it was but after actually looking for it i had no idea about the allen head bolts👍
OMG you have saved me! been looking for months on how to get to this and havent found anything good till now. thank you

Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't have this Jeep any more but, any videos I make in the future will be just as thorough.
Jose Nevarez haha I probably don't go one job without saying fuck it I'm selling this thing
+Caleb q that's pretty much exactly what happened, hahahaha
You saved my life showing me what them both look like and where to look

+Jose Nevarez after my 93 died in a major intercection during a funeral procession i have been working to get her running. this video helped so much im changing the sensor now
that's what I needed to see. doing mine today. thank you
Good luck!
The plug from the sensor I can't see where it plugs in
@@burtflitter9685 sorry, I just saw this - c you look at 4:40 there's 3 little red squares near the top left of the screen. That's the connector.
Yeah I just went out least it's in the yard. 287000 she's a good old truck think I'm just gonna cut a hole in the floor board and peel it back make it easier myself....
thanks for the video. going to try this out next. hopefully I can get in there considering I'm super short lol
If only i had seen this before spending an hour trying to get a socket on those bolts.
Doooood...hahahaha

+John PLunkett Excellent point on the grommet!
Actually, I think exposure to high temperatures is what causes the failure.
Very helpful video but how were you able to break the bolts free that’s holding the sensor in place? I don’t see how there’s enough room to turn the Allen key let alone break away the bolts
I may have used a socket and ratchet - sorry, I don't exactly remember...
Any idea what size the two bolts holding the sensor on are. Not sure if I need to buy standard or metric set
1/4 inch Allen key

+Jose Nevarez ok trying
+Jose Nevarez it was code 55 I guess that means nothing's wrong right lol.
спасибо!!!!!!!
Gracias
What tool did you use to get the bolts out from the sensor? The1/4 bolts,
Allen key on mine
@@v_twin_villain thank you, and great video, really appreciate it!
How do you get it off. Does it just fall out after you take the hex bolts out? My 93 has this issue thank you.
You should be able to just pull it out, there may be some resistance if the o-ring is sticky
I’m looking for which wire to plug in to the end of the cps
At 2:58 you can see me touching the plug your looking for. It may be on top of the bell housing or possibly on the driver side of the bell. You can see how long that plug is so, try to look in that range of area around the bell. Good luck!
Anyone know what the dimensions of the bolts are? I dropped mone and cant find them
Thomas Nieland which bolts are you talking about? I thought I called out all the sizes as I went...
Will this be the same on a 96 jeep grand cherokee 4.0?
Shayne Katchmark I honestly don't know - I'd say just go look in your engine bay and if it looks like this one did, start wrenching!
Ok sounds good I was about to cut thru the floor board to get to it I dont wanna do that shit they're doing from the bottom
Legend!😂
Great video. I just want to say.... Fuck you Jeep for the placement of this sensor! What a nightmare.
I did this on the I6
On my 93 Grand Cherokee I didn't have to remove nothing but some wires😂
nice to see i dont have to do what i was afraid of doing, but is this possibly the cause of the vehical just dieing out of no were like is the ignition had been turned off with out warning? mine did and isnt getting spark and the fuel pumps not even kicken on anymore. i was just driving it around the other day with no issues and this happend......
Yeah, that's kinda what happened to mine. Even after I got the CPS change, though, it ended up being a bad catalytic converter and/or EGR valve.
+Jose Nevarez funny u mention the egr valve, right after it died and i attempted to started it back up several times. i poped the hood and heard some clicking and the egr valve siliniod was going nutts.....
I can’t get my computer to unplug any suggestions?
Pull harder? Maybe a little WD-40 around the seem and some "percussive maintenance" on the harness...
Would this work for the 97 as well?
As long as you have the same motor, yes. The bolts may vary from allen to hex, though...depends on whether the sensor has been changed before or not.
Alrighty I do have the 5.2 I will check that out. Thank you so much
Where is the plug in located
Burt Flitter which plug?
I think he means the wire that comes off of the CPS. Same question.
yes i need it too. where is it at?
It turned out to be reachable by standing on the driver side and looking behind the block. I had my stepdaughter pull on the sensor while shining a light up there.
Luckily for me I didn't have to remove nothing I'm 6-5😊
How to test crank sensor crank sensor
Sorry, I don't know of any test for the sensor.
I have a 95 Laredo and I just installed new fuel pump and filter.when I come to a stop while idling it acts like it's gonna stall and sometimes does o also while driving it starts shaking and when pushing the petal I get nothing? is this because of the crankshaft sensor?
