Minor correction, but Mips actually appears twice in SM64 and gives 2 stars to Mario. The first time you enter the basement, Mips will be there until you capture him and collect the first star. But after you collect 50 stars, the next time you enter the basement, Mips will return and again, after capturing him will give Mario a second star.

Just wanted to say for the Viagra falls changing too thanks Bob on the board I believe that’s a reference to the late night extenze commercials That used to involve “smiling Bob” whose life was turned around by taking those pills. So it’s actually a pretty thoughtful name change in order to keep the reference mostly while making it far more subtle

Minor tidbit/PSA: DK64's crashing problem being 'solved' with the expansion pack didn't even fix the bug, only severely mitigate it. If the game is left on for more than 20 hours*, it'll start crashing again. While this isn't much of a problem on actual hardware (b/c who would leave their N64 on for that long?), this crashing problem still exists in the Wii U Virtual Console version of the game. Wii U owners, make sure you fully reset DK64 when your done playing. *EDIT: Turns out it starts crashing after 10 hours, not 20. Still; not everybody plays games for that long in a day, let alone one game for 10 hours straight.
"Who would leave their N64 on for that long?" I reached Andross' final form in Star Fox 64 for the first time just minutes before I was supposed to leave with my parents to go on vacation. I simply would not have time to try to finish the game, but since (unlike DK64) you can't save your progress I was very reluctant to shut it off...so I just left the console on until we returned a week later. One week later, I returned to find the game right where I left it.
Here's a fun fact I only learned somewhat recently. On the invoice that StarFox gives to General Pepper, the dollar amount stated is 64 times your total score in the game. Blew my mind when I decided to do the math on that.
Wow I actually do remember the "Here's Juan!" cheat when playing Turok 2 decades ago and always being extremely confused by it. I didn't expect to finally get some context for it all these years later.

Viagra falls being changed to thanks Bob is a a reference to the old Viagra commercials starring "smiling bob" while a whistle theme would play and tell about all the benefits he got from, well, Viagra lol

Hi this is nintendo, you're all getting dmca'd for commenting on this video. Now please continue to pay us for dial up quality online services and 60$ games that will never go on sale.
16:56 actually Mips appears twice (although both encounters are basically the same) and the animation *is* used if you know how to activate it. Using the glitch to transport Mips through doors, if you bring him to the room in the basement with water before you've pounded the pillars, Mips will do this animation while Mario releases him in the water
Turok 2 was the first game that got me extremely interested in glitches and secrets in games because I found a way to “break” the game. There’s another cheat that allows you to warp to any level you want in the story mode and I found out you could load a game of multiplayer and still use this cheat which warps you and the others over to the story mode levels but you’re still playing as whatever character you picked and have whatever weapons you picked up from the multiplayer game! Sometimes it would freeze the console but most of the time it worked and I thought it was so cool that I figured out how to break the game myself I began to look for glitches and secrets everywhere!
You could turn the game into a bootleg co-op mode like this, but the problem was that none of the teleporters worked when doing it, so you could only play the first section of a level. It was pretty funny to play the start of the 2nd level where you get the tricera-tank like this though.
So RE: the DK64 fact: If you hack the game to skip the "expansion pack check" the only thing that doesn't work is the dynamic lighting, this proves that the second version of the story is true.
About the DK 64 dispute. Rare using it for the lighting seems more believable. Plus you can't pack the expansion pack with every copy of your game at the last minute you have to plan it early on. Marlow might have just misremembered.
Yeah it's 100% that. That on top of Marlow sounding real rambley about it rather than confident. The recent Matt McMucles video clarifies it even more.
@Viewer "IIRC there were also examples of at least one game resetting the entire console to wipe the RAM in loading screens" Pretty sure that was Morrowind on Xbox.
Fun fact: the THPS fact with name changes, Thanks bob is a reference from a skate video with a Brazilian saying, “It’s all thanks to bob” referring to bob burnquist
I actually weirdly like the way Turok looks without model interpolation. Wish there was a version of the cheat that only had that effect without disabling the other effects.
Wow, DYKG has been on a roll these last days, releasing great video after another I've been a viewer since 2013 and the latest videos have been some of the best
The Big Shows contract with the WWF didn't expire, the WWF were upset with Big Show at the time to punish him they had removed him from TV and sent him to Ohio Valley Wrestling to lose weight and improve his conditioning and that is why he didn't appear in No Mercy
No Mercy came out in 2000. Big Show signed a 10 year contract in 1999. DYKG doesnt know gaming... or wrestling gaming history ;) so to speak. Contract "issues" i dont believe to be a thing as Andre the Giant and Ken Shamrock are in the game. In wwf warzone, the game came out way after Ahmed Johnson, Bret Hart, & British Bulldog had left the company.
Their other No Mercy fact is also slightly wrong. The transfer pak functionality was to allow you to transfer your character FROM the gameboy color version to the n64, not the other way around.
"This isn't the only N64 game with a small toybox aesthetic" *Me getting really excited someone is going to acknowledge that Army Men: Sarge's Heroes exists* "The other game is of course Paper Mario!" *my soul rends from its body screaming all the way to hell*
Minor nitpick but at 17:08 it is stated that the animation of MIPS falling over is never seen, however this is incorrect! If you use MIPS to clip into the door leading to the room that unlocks the Vanish Cap, you can grab MIPS while inside the door and bring him into that room. (Similar to how the 16 Star Speedrun does it) Doing this, you can not only swim with MIPS, but you can also drop him while swimming, and the "unused" animation will play! Other than that, really solid video as always, I always love learning about older video games.
Oooh I actually get the “Thanks Bob” reference from Tony Hawk. There was a series of commercials in the US for a product called Enzyte which claimed to offer “Natural Male enhancement”. The commercial starred a man named “Smiling Bob” who was a 30 something man who was always smiling presumably because he now had a honking dong. One of the lines often said to the character was “Thanks Bob!” because through the power of enzyte he excelled in all matters of life including but not limited to golfing, getting work done on time, spreading the gospel of enzyte and presumably “keeping his wife happy”. Hope this reaches you guys
You could actually play as turok in WWF Warzone if you connected memory card to your controller. He would be one of the template create-a-wrestlers. I havent played it in ~25 years so I might have some details off, but I definitely played as turok in that and I never had any n64 cheat devices.

There's also an unused audio clip in the game that says "Fuck you dude" to me it sounds like it's from the Canadian guy and maybe it's meant to be what happens if you choose to press B and cancel selecting the character. There's also just audio of dogs barking as well. No idea what that's about.
Viagra Falls becoming Thanks Bob is a reference to Bob Dole, a US politician who did commercial advertisements for Viagra. A person would only ever get the reference if they knew the original title, so it was probably meant as an in-joke on the part of the people doing the conversion.
A minor correction here. The reason WWF No Mercy (and WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role for the PS1) doesn't feature The Big Show isn't by his contract expiring, but because The Big Show was demoted back to developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling in 2000 for having poor performance on house shows against The Undertaker, literally pissing off 'Taker since a couple months earlier he supported Show trying to justify his big contract, and also because weight gain from his injury reaching 480 pounds didn't help him to perform properly.
Did you know...? The guy Viagra used as their virile mascot in their advertising was named "Smiling Bob"? Maybe that's why the Tony Hawk reference to Viagra Falls got changed to Thanks Bob....
The “Thanks Bob” name switch in THPS is probably a reference to the Enzyte Smiling Bob commercials that were popular around that time. I could be wrong , but I’m pretty sure that’s what it is.
I don't see a problem with an announcer yelling 'homosexual' while I ride a snowboard across a bridge. Good for the announcer feeling comfortable enough to come out to a live audience.
Poor mips, all he ever got was used as an object to get past the 30 star door, then get caught twice, now getting the animal cruelty? That’s totally messed up… also great video Dykg
I haven't played Turok in about 2 decades, but I can still recall 'The Big Cheat' verbatim (yet, I can't remember my own phone number most of the time)
19:10 Here is the censored track from 1080° snowboarding that Jim Wornell is talking about here -- ruclips.net/video/ouvDICFLMfA/видео.html It sounds like this was repurposed elsewhere (in Records) and just the instrumentals were used.

I don't know why but the very first fact killed me! 🤣 I laughed at it for 15 minutes and literally crying 😂 🤣🤣🤣
The “Thanks Bob” name switch in THPS is probably a reference to the Enzyte Smiling Bob commercials that were popular around that time. I could be wrong , but I’m pretty sure that’s what it is.
i didn’t know you guys could sell discounted codes. next time i want a game i will try to remember this. very cool
I don't see a problem with an announcer yelling 'homosexual' while I ride a snowboard across a bridge. Good for the announcer feeling comfortable enough to come out to a live audience.
So stunning and brave XD
It’s always cool to learn more facts about my first console!
always fun to learn about this system and its games
"give it to me... Give it to me good, dont want your bad luck baby".
Loved the Dude Love music remix during the WWE games segment
2:55 the "Thanks Bob" may be a subtle reference to the old Bob from Enzyte male enhancement pill commercials
Your transitions are impeccable.
I could be playing any kind of video game that takes place in wintery locations and not bad ones at that.
Changing "Barely Legal" to 41? I'm dying here.
5:29 ..."surprisingly" defunct? After 25 years?

In Pilotwings, you can also change Mario to Wario by shooting him with the human cannonball. Just saying.
Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 is such an underrated game, I honestly prefer it to Mario Kart.

It sounds like this was repurposed elsewhere (in Records) and just the instrumentals were used.
