    holy shit. like, HOLY SHIT. I've been obsessed with sekia hills as long as i can remember (i have very unrealistic dreams of reopening this track someday), and i just want to say, you absolutely nailed the research. Sekia style is something that could only happen in that era, and i'll always be fond of it. Not to mention, I absolutely love the concept of coming to a circuit for the first time, buying a (then cheap) s13 with bolt on parts, and skidding it around a track, all in a single day. Something i'd like to note is that theres still a used car shop thats running on the site to this day, and they still kept up the main paddock building's dec decals just as a tribute to what it was before. anyway, great video!

    i really wish there was a modern-day equivalent to D1 Street Legal, it would be so cool to see drifting return to a more grassroots style, while still retaining the professional vibe of a competition, just one the average person could afford to compete in.

    • @ToreDL87
      @ToreDL87 8 месяцев назад +4

      It was insane growing up, watching drifting go from something anyone could get involved in, even Ueo just brought his car, didn't adjust anything, and just drove. Into where now even just the base car costs more than 3 times more than what you could get 3 base cars for, and then you need to add race suspension, 1200hp powerplant with sequential transmission + drysump and a full works team to even have a ballpark competitive car.

    • @m-seb
      @m-seb 7 месяцев назад

      @@ToreDL87 It wasn't really as simple as "anyone could get involved in", Ueo still had the backing of a workshop and sponsors, as did most competitors that consistently were in the points. Touring around Japan and having enough spare parts to survive a season is in no way an expense sustainable by the average dude.

    Kinda sad to see some of the memories of bonding together just being a totally different thing. Dealership used to sell equivalent to $5000 Drift car just turn into something normal, Places used to be crowded and looking back memories of friends growing out their hobbies that they used to enjoy feels sad.

    Fantastic video. I always loved Sekia Hills and building a track like this has always been my dream and goal. As a mid term drifter (10 years now) I can feel the sadness of the locals and friends seen this track go away.
    I guess Sekia was doomed to failure since the begining. Located in a island far away from the mainland Japan, and a huge international circuit like Autopolis next door, I'm surprised it lasted so long.
    My favourite driver was Hagisako. He was trully gifted and was very lovely. He struggle and drifted with his cool Silvia with Honda front and rear. So glad he at least managed the Blitz/Uras sponsorship but he always deserved a full D1GP pass. I can't imagine how expensive and complicate it was for someone like him to travel outside of Kyushuu and attend the D1SL events each year.

    Thank you for making this video, I assume putting together this amount of information must have been difficult and I never heard of this place before. I really hope it goes big, this is the sort of stories the car community needs. It might sound absurd, but the fact there's next to no places where people can see cars as more than average commuters means there's a really small chance for people to discover this wonderful hobby of ours. Sure, cars might not be the same but I'm certain one could have an enjoyable car with a few basic mods. I seen people modify average hatchbacks, and they drive them hard, hah. One can hope.
