Greatest season of TV ever! Agree 100%
YES YES FUCKIN YES
Allright ! Allright ! Allright ! Excellent southern gothic story ! Huge, huge, performance from mc conaughey. I’m french but not listening his voice in original is a crime to me. Mc conaughey best texan ASMR! 😅
I agree. I just started rewatching the 1st season a couple days ago. Best TV show ever and I loved Breaking Bad which is phenomenal in its own right, but this show is still the best IMO.
@@John57945 i've watched the first season 3 times..best tv season ever
No lie. One of the best shows I've ever watched.
The funniest moment of TD season 1 is when they interrogate the guy in prison about his serial killer ex-cellmate and Woody Harrelson’s character says to him “That must’ve been rough, having someone spouting psychotic shit in your ear all day long” and then just stares at Rust 😂
You know how it is, ya want a wife…but only half the time. 😂
It kills me everytime when he talks about family and boundaries and cut to him running over a kids bike then banging on his mistresses door and a big F- you to the neighbors when they start complaining. That little shit bird in there? But the classic line has got to be at the bar Rust you're the Michael Jordan of being a sonofabitch
Rust:-"Human are sentient meat"
Woody:-"What's scented meat?"
@@rajyavardhansingh4491 omg plz😂😂
"And the human tampon here heard me" 😂
True Detective season one is one of the best things I've ever seen.
my favorite!
Yeah best overall season best crime story, so so so damn good and I wish there was more like it
The greatest thing I've seen is season 2 of true detective. I love the first one but the second one is absolutely brilliant. Highly underrated in my opinion
Season one! Agreed from France (in original version, of course...)
@@CarlosRivera-wx3dv hard disagree
He had True Detective and Interstellar release in the same year. 2 of the best pieces of film and tv ever. Legend.
Wolf of wall street and dallas buyers club as well, won an oscar. All of that from 2013 to 2014
@@burningbeard3451 damnnn you right!
The dude has been a legend for decades now. He could kick me in the teeth and I’d feel lucky.
“Content, story and character; I don’t give a shit what screen it’s on” What a legend. I hope he stays in it for a long time to come
i mean,he gets paid regardless .. and its not like he doesnt have plenty of money anyways haha
"The best single season in television history..." Thank you...Ive been trying for years to formulate that sentence about True Detective Season 1. I doubt anything will surpass it. Script, camera work, story line and the performances...I can watch it every 6 months and never get tired of it.
It took you years to formulate that sentence? What are you down syndome or something?
The writers and producers could not have come up with a better location to film it than Louisiana, which in itself was like its own character.
@@John57945 very true
Chernobyl: "Hold my Roentgen!"
@@user-dd2ux8wb4c How is it overdramatic? They were dealing with a catastrophic meltdown of a nuclear power plant. I just think True Detective S1 is better by a lot, but Chernobyl was definitely entertaining and interesting.
The chemistry between Rust and Marty is AWESOME I'm not surprised if Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are like close pals in real life
They are. Been friends for a long time
They have been making movies together for like 30 years, their good friends
actually, there's a theory that they might be brothers. not an internet theory though, it's one the actors themselves had come up as their father shared some weird coincidences. i don't know enough of it to put down in a comment, but it's worth looking up for sure
Martin waiting for Rust the car, after he gets the info about Reggie Ledoux, looking at Rust while walking towards him: "Who walks that fucking slow"
KILLS ME every time 🤣
That was where the real killer was too...
I laughed my ass off in there lol
@@user-cr6gk8ho9w nope, didn't see it coming
in such a heavy, dark show that line took me out
One of my favorite parts of the show is after Marty tells Rust to stop saying fucked up shit all the time. Then as they both get back in to the car, Marty is clearly trying to hit the reset button with some small talk and he asks Rust, "You get much sleep lately?"
To which Rust replies, "I don't sleep. I just dream." And after a brief silence you just see Marty shoot Rust a super-irritated look. Those 2 had such a great dynamic.
Changed the way I think off woody as an actor he killed it.
Nothing we haven't seen before. We knew he was a phenomenal actor before this.
Yeah, I was a big Woody fan already but that was really exceptional what he did in that series.
Both of them tbh
Dude, he killed it in Natural Born Killers. Killed it in the first Zombieland. Not to mention cheers. Dude kills everything. Woody and Ed Norton have been my two favorite actors for years. Woody gets slept on because some of his movies suck and started acting by playing a moron. This was the role he was meant for. I usually clown on Mathew but even he killed it in True Detective. Season one of West World was probably my favorite season of TV until this. Although I don’t watch many seasonal shows. Season 2 of True Detective was ok. Took a few episodes before I even started to give a fck. Season 3 I’m still thinking “what”.
Natural Born Killers was the Woody H break thru
True Detective Season 1 was and still is TOP TIER!
Hey Matt, you and Woody nailed it. Best TV show I've ever seen.
better than edtv?
Flawless performance by Mr. McConaughey. Rustin Cohle is one of my favourites characters ever; it was absolutely brillant how he inmersed himself into that role. And of course the true detective first season as a whole is a masterpiece. The writing, the performances, the suspense, the editing, the music, etc, etc, etc.
Greatest Pessimistic character in TV history
Etc etc etc is just a lazy way of writing the end of a sentence where you’ve got nothing more of any interest to say but eagerly wanting peoples attention
I absolutely agree, best single season of TV I've ever watched
I've spent some odd 100 hours of my life watching that godforsaken show's first season since it first came out when I was 15. Seeing this interview makes me wanna rewatch it again.
The thing about the show is you can’t just watch one episode. You HAVE to watch the entire 8 hours. It’s an 8 hour damn good movie.
@@eyeswideshut7354 Exactly. I can't just casually sit down at the end of the day and watch one episode. I gotta make it a whole ass event all though nothing surprises me anymore.
@@noramarie6950 i think it’s like that for every superfan of this show
I still catch small things even after many watches.
@@cactusmalone I often wonder had Cary Fukinoga stayed on as director, would the show have maintained its mythic status?
I watch it every year, usually twice. Best acting, best story lines. Simply the best 100%
Absolutely correct, the best single Sean of television ever created. Hands down. Absolutely brilliant, everything about it.
I love it. But I’m conflicted by the ending. It just seemed a little bit meh... you know the reveal. I find it hard that someone that mentally unstable could be a mastermind. Or am I being too picky? It always irks me.
At the same time I watch it twice a year 🤣
@@JK-nk3hb Finally I found that comment! The whole show is a masterpiece and that final was A LOT meh to me...
@@dariasukhikh7060 the undercover episode though right? 😑 how could any ending follow that.
@@JK-nk3hb well, yeah, while watching it I thought that the screenwriters probably felt like "any ending will be a bad ending comparing to the whole season, so... why trying?" or maybe that's what HBO wanted the ending to be
Such a fascinating season, it's truly a masterpiece. So creepy, so believable and authentic. The way they captured the weird, the strange, the unsettling, the dreadful, not to mention Louisiana itself. All that yellow king stuff and the lore behind it. Just freaking perfect.
True Detective season 1 is without doubt the performance of a lifetime from McConaughey
Season 1 of True Detective was One of the best experiences of cinema.
Literally not cinema.
True Detective Season 1 and The Wire - ALL TIME BEST SERIES!
YES! The Wire is one of the few shows that I can watch from beginning to end over and over and still not get tired of it.
Nowhere near The Sopranos. The Wire had way too much filler.
Sopranos way better than the wire
@@Luke-kj1rj Yeah I agree.
McConaughey being able to enjoy his own work and being surprised by the show
like everybody else is fucking awesome !
One of those rare moments in entertainment history with the perfect cast, perfect crew and perfect network to realise the perfect script at the perfect time
McConaughey made one the greatest perfomance of all time not just TV,! that role got me ever since
Loved this show! Needs to be an annual event if not more often!
His performance as Rust is among the greatest of all time, film or television. Truly a master class.
Watching second time around... brilliant characters and the chemistry between Woody and Matthew.🇭🇲✌️
Masterpiece. Rewatched it a few months back and it gets better and better with each rewatch.
He did a phenomenal job fleshing out the character of, Rust Cohle. As if he was born to play. I can relate to the character in a lot of fringe ways. I've been rewatching over the last couple days
In the midst of rewatching season one of TD at the moment. Probably my third or fourth time through. Every time I watch it I love it more. I think it's about to move from my favorite TV series of all time to may favorite work of art in any format.
I was at HBO for about 14 years - and the absolute best scrip that came across my desk was the pilot script for Season 1 of True Detective. I read that single episode and thought 'holy crap, I wanna see more of this!' Which made the 2nd & 3rd seasons even bigger disappointments. Nick just couldn't seem to come close to the banter, the philosophy and as Cole would say, the Culture of it all. Additionally I think the unusual decision to have a single director (Cary Fukunaga) for every episode gave it a cohesiveness that almost every other show (including the following 2 seasons) lack. Season 2 was interesting, but had too many main characters and had some terrible dialogue - season 3 had fantastic performances from both leads, but I really hated the 'surprise! There was no mystery!' reveal.
I agree. Why do networks insist on having different directors for every show? It has always made zero sense to me.
@@DrinkinBrosPodcast They do it to draw a larger audience and also believe it prevents monotony. (Remember what incredibly tiny attention spans people have now. If something doesn't change every 30 seconds, these kids lose it.)
@@DrinkinBrosPodcast I think a lot of it is that they are on a tight shooting schedule and one director is planning the next episode while the current director is shooting their episode.
I enjoyed season 3, it dragged on in some parts as there was a lot of contemplation for the characters, but I thought it would be worth it to finally find out what happened to the missing kid.... But it felt like the writing was playing a trick on me
I liked season 3 but you are right, Rust is just such a great character nobody can top him which is the issue. The ending as well of S1 didn't wrap everything up in a little bow which was nice.
Awesome seeing him talk about it so enthusiastically, you can absolutely tell it was a passion project for him and his performance helped make it one of the most memorable seasons of any show ever, definitely up there with The Wire/Sopranos/Deadwood etc.
Love Matthew such a down to earth and funny dude!!! And hope nothing but the best for him and you guys as well in this upcoming year!!!✌️
I watch season 1 True Detective every year - only show I ever do that with, it truly is a masterpiece! Best season of TV in history!
Nothing has come close to this masterpiece.
If they wanted him to play Marty, who did they originally have in mind for Rust? I can’t imagine anyone else!
Lol then we'd relate to all the other characters how they hate Rust
I mean i have watched True Detective season 1 maybe 3-4 times and just after watching this clip i wanna watch it again, it's a masterpiece
Rewatching it with my wife and it’s even better than I remembered.
The chemistry between rust and Marty is amazing. So many funny lines of banter.
Plus the tone and score in each episode is beautifully haunting.
And a shout out to the intro, only intro I don’t skip because it’s such a great song
I watched the 1st episode of season 1 around 8pm one night. I then proceeded to be so hooked I stayed up the entire night binging the show until I had to leave for work at 630am. It was a slow day so I took an extra long lunch break and finished the last 2 episodes on my phone. Ive never been so hooked on a show so fast and so intensely. Easily some of the best television you can ever watch.
Bro same almost. I started watching one night around 9pm and I got 3 episodes in before I had to go to bed and it killed me. As soon as I got off work I went home, skipped the gym, and binged the rest
McConaughey is so cool that he watched True Detective like the rest of us.
The first season took me by surprise Matt killed it
Fabulous, Sensational, Thrilling, One and only so far, Great story, great performance and great acting.
Masterpiece!!!
Watched the whole season two days ago. All the episodes in one watch. For the 5th time. Still love it. Will come back to this season every other year for decades.
An absolute masterpiece. The final episode was stunning!
I love good acting and I have re-watched movies and action scenes that I loved. However, I have never replayed a single acting scene, just to appreciate its artistic brilliance - except for this scene. I re-watched it 3 times in a row and soaked it with more appreciation every time.
i watched the show 10 years ago and am watching it again now. I had forgotten how dense the show is. so good
True Detective season 1 is an epically awesome show. I absolutely loved Matthew and Woody, they are perfect poles apart and it just works. This show is 11 out of 10.
What a show. Both actors at the absolute top of their game🔥🔥 Then along came season 2.........................
Such a great show and I love that other people find so much humour in the chemistry between the two leads
They should’ve done a special season of Rust when he was a narc and in the Iron Crusaders. That woulda been a banger of a show.
I’ve literally asked the writer if he would write those novels about that story and he has had no plans so far
I never thought anything could top the Sopranos but Season 1 of True Detective is the best television I've ever seen.
Only just watched it recently and I can confirm it's unbelievable acting from Matt wow!
so so so good in that show, such a good performance
Content, story, character. He’s truly a superb actor.
Great video guys! Happy it popped in my recommended. Looks like u guys interviewed a lot of people in my interest pool :D
The first appearance of the serial killer was brilliant foreshadowing, just an amazing season
This is so great.
This has what ive been saying since it came out, glad to see people are finally agreeing.
woody and Matthew should've gotten a pile of awards for that show -- it was brilliant!!!
Breaking Bad last season :( Too bad for them.
I agree one of the best
It's about time true detective was discussed the best film work well , awesome acting abilities from the hole cast.
Fantastic show. Wish additional cases for their characters would be made into additional seasons.
Its near time I give that a rewatch!
This makes me so happy to hear.
Without doubt this season is the greatest television of all time. Please write another season!
Straight up this is the single greatest season of TV ever !
My friend described the first season of true detective as
“Southern gothic”
I thought it was the perfect description.
I watch it over at least twice a year.
Can’t agree more, season 1 was one of the best shows ever made. These 2 and the entire production team absolutely nailed it.
Outstanding series in every single respect.Beautifully dark, brilliant acting, great direction, awesome music, incredible scenery and of course a bloody bonkers story line. MM is as cool as Fuck
Got a lotta love for season 1 of True Detective
Greatest show agreed 👏👏👏 Remarkable work woddy & Matthew ,but please make it available on OTT so that everyone's get to watch the master piece !!
love the Lovecraft element and the acting. the story.. its is a masterpiece!
I'm not into actors, not into Autobiographies - McConaughey's is spectacular. So uniquely and creatively designed and edited. Green Lights.
I always viewed McConaughey as a pretty boy who was just in romance movies. Watched True detective and was blown away. Him and Woody killed it.
@National Socialism True detective came out in 2014. Lincoln lawyer is good, never watched the other two.
Best performance ever !
I agree! Best single TV season of all time.
Absolute masterpiece.
Correct. First season of True detective is a masterpiece
Best detective show for sure. Season 1 is just perfect. Mathew and Woody such a good duo. My top 3 tv series for sure.
Agree with other comments here - Series 1 was the best TV ever. A true masterpiece
Hahaha, that tennis ball metaphor is the perfect way to describe their dynamic.
My favourite crime movie is Heat, my favourite crime tv series is season 1 of True Detective. Everything about it is perfection from the characters, direction and to the story when you’re trying to unravel what is going on.
Just zaw it lqst week and it really gave me a whole new perspective on mccaughey

Best season ever... I've watched multiple times
The best singular season of television in history! Absolute masterpiece. Would have loved them making a new season with Mcconaughey & Harrelson, wich could have been great in terms of how the season ended. Wont ever happen though
Its the best single series ever made, I dont give a fuck what anyone says. Nothing is even CLOSE.

Mcconaughey and woods have set the bar so extremely high with this project that it's gonna take something really special an unique from other top tier actors to make their mark on the small screen. It'll be interesting to see what actors like Pitt, Clooney, freeman or cate Blanchett bring to the table if they decide to move into tv.
